CR2 / RAW images no longer displayed

For some reason, I can no longer view CR2 / RAW images (from a Canon EOS 350D). I've never had any issues with them before. Any ideas what can have caused this?

Go into "System Preferences" -> "Software Update" -> "Installed Software" and verify that "Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update" ver 2.7 is installed.
Also... it will only read .CR2 files in true full 'RAW' format.... not 'mRAW' or 'sRAW'. This is not a bug... 'mRAW' and 'sRAW' are not intended to be supported as they aren't really RAW formats at all.

  • Why do tumbnails of RAW images no longer display?

Just got a new camera (Sony a77) and when I took test shots and downloaded them to my computer, the tumbnails do not appear in CS3 Bridge?  Only as the stock RAW image.  My system is Mac OS X 10.5.8.  I also downloaded the included Sony CD Image Data Converter.  The thumbnail display was the same before and after I downloaded the IDC and when I right click on the tumbnail it is no longer an option for me to 'Open with Camera RAW'. I want it back-I need help!! and quickly!

The free Adobe DNG Converter is a stand-alone application that you need to install, then launch and run it just like you would any other application (like Photoshop itself) on each batch of Sony raw files you need to convert.  It will then generate DNG raw files (DN = digital negative) as copies, leaving your Sony raw files untouched.  You can then open them in your current Photoshop and ACR combination.
DNG files have been supported ever since Photoshop CS (that's Photoshop 8 a.k.a. Photoshop CS1) and ACR 2.4.
    Remember:
Download the free, Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 (NOT higher, or it won't run in your Mac OSX  Leopard 10.5.8).
On the other hand, if your client demands raw files, then why not give the client your Sony raw files?  Maybe you and/or your client are under a misconception as to the nature of raw files.
If this is a one-time situation, you could download a free, current, 30-day trial copy of Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop CC just for this one job.  But if the client wants unedited, true RAW files, I don't see the point.
Incidentally, the files are generated by the application you're using at any one time to view or browse the raw files, they are not embedded in the raw files themselves.

  • Raw images do not display correctly in Yosemite

Since installing Yosemite onto My MacBookPro I find some of the images in my RAW library no longer display correctly in Bridge and Photoshop. I am running Bridge 5.0.2.4 and Photoshop 13.0.6 x 64. These same images display correctly in other image viewing software e.g. Digital Photo Professional, Image Browser and Yosemite Finder.

  • Canon EOS D60 CR2 raw images don't open in Photoshop.  Why?

I know this question has been asked many times but I couldn't find a thread with an answer.  I have just taken my first images with my Canon EOS D60 (upgraded from 1000D) and find that the CR2 raw images aren't recognised by Photoshop.  I remember I had this issue when I first had my 1000D but cannot remember what I did.  I have CS4 V11.0.2 and tried to update Camera Raw but it says no updates are available.  I have Lightroom 3 and that opens them ok but not Photoshop.  Sorry .... but can anyone tell me again what the problem is?  Thanks. :-(

You can get support for the latest cameras in CS2, CS3 and CS4 through our FREE DNG Converter:
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4923
    Win: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4924
There are other benefits to using DNG besides backward compatibility if you haven’t explored those:
The metadata, keywords and RAW adjustments are stored in the file – along with a processed preview of the image. This makes the file portable and keeps your metadata safe and secure.
DNG files are smaller than the original RAW file which will save you disk space and time in the long run.
DNG is an openly specified file format which means the file format isn’t going away. So if you use another RAW processor that supports DNG, you don’t have to worry about compatibility or portability of your metadata.

  • Why can't I import CR2(raw) images

I just purchased Adobe PS Elements 8 to replace my 5.0. I was able to import pictures from my Canon Rebel xsi 450, via usb wire, except the CR2(raw) images. Once the import gets to these I get a pop up that states "Elements Organizer cannot obtain files from this device. Please ensure the device is connected properly, or that the battery is charged, and try again." My battery is fully charged and I disconnected and reconnected 2 x's. Why can't I import these photos?

My mistake, I was in a rush when I posted it.  I ran some tests, and think I answered my own question:
It's a Canon T2i...  Yes, I know I need Camera Raw 5.7.  But when I try to install the RC of 5.7, I just get a message that it cannot be installed, please click quit (perhaps it only works with Photoshop cs4, not Elements 8?).   So, as a test I loaded 5.6 (for Elements), and then tried to open a 7D cr2 file (which should be supported).  It works fine...  So, I'm wondering if I need to load a whole new version 5.7 to load the T2i files or if I can just load the 8Bi file from the new version?  I'm not sure where that file would be in the install package.  I have a feeling I'll just have to wait for the full version of 5.7 to come out...
    Thanks for your reply.

  • How can I send my CR2 raw images to a person who uses NEF? (I shoot Canon, Windows, She has Nikon, Apple)?

I have sent some Raw images CR2 files to someone who can't open them. She uses NEF
She is unable to open them.
Is there a way she can open them and then send them back to me?
    Thanks

In general CR2s and NEFs will open in Adobe software as long as it is newer than the camera models involved.
If your friend is using Nikon software then it won’t work with Canon raw files.
What is the software brand and version situation on both sides of the transaction and what camera model(s) are you sending raws from?

  • Images no longer display properly in Firefox

I use ancestry.com where they have a lot of images of documents - not PDFs - and this morning they no longer display, but instead seem to show underlying html or other code. I noticed in the google home page, the icon for the google apps no longer appears - really odd things are happening. Most web sites are fine. Have screened three ways for malware, downloaded and installed latest Firefox browser - no change.
I have a screen image that shows the issue, but can't figure out how to post it here.

  • Canon CR2 raw images are forcibly cropped by Camera Raw

I posted this on the Photoshop Discussion as I did not realise that Camera Raw has its own - sorry folks!
Camera raw is cropping my cr2 images even after I have removed the crop in DPP (Digital Photo Professional - Canon's own raw editing software). I have many images cropped by a Canon 5D3 as it forces a 16:9 crop when you take a still while in video mode. The rest of the data is in the raw file, but this is not read by Camera Raw which forces the 16:9 crop. I have removed the crops in DPP, and even re-cropped with a different crop, saved the files and used every way I can imagine to get them into PS short of turning them into tiffs. I do not want to save as a tiff, as I really like the tools in PS Raw, especially the exposure tool (I am no great photographer but I have some very special and irreplaceable pics form fieldwork overseas which are ahem errr not quite correctly exposed).
My ideal worflow is open folder in DPP - star rate the pics I want to work on. crop them (nice to do this in DPP as it is part of the selection process) then get them into Camera Raw without any more effort, then if an image can be tweaked - do it as a Raw, if it needs more work - get it into PS6 as a tiff and go from there. This seems to minimise effort and minimise file space, at the expense of having two different file types.
Does anyone else work like this, or is there a better way to review 300 similar pics and get the best selected and processed? Has anyone else encounteres this refusal of Camera Raw to ignore the camera's crop? I bleive that there is a plug-in for lightroom, does anyone know a work around for PS  - I have PS6 with raw 7.3.
    Thanks
    Gor

Oh can I, thanks . I couldn't see a way to open a tiff in ACR - It only opens when I drag a Raw image into ps6, and it has no file>open to allow me to open a tiff.  In fact it is a rather strange piece of software - it doesn't seem to exist on its own (not as part of production suite anyway).
This would be a work-around for sure if you could tell me how to do it??
    UPDATE
FOr anyone else with this problem you can force ps6 to open all tiffs in ACR with a setting in preferences in RAW - automatically open all tiffs. It is still a bit of a pain as i dont really want to automatically open them all, but hey!

  • RAW images are not displayed

I noticed today that one of my albums containing old RAW images (3 years old) are not shown in the preview. The images have been modified in an older version of iPhoto, but the change is gone. I can still open through Photoshop or iPhoto but do not see the edited version anymore ... Does anyone have a clue why?

Canon PS 9, 10 Canon EOS 300D, 40D ... all my previous cameras, but not all images. As said, there seems to be no rule. Some pictures in the middle of a "roll". But sometimes several events in succession. All images can be opened in Preview. All images can be displayed in the Finder and iPhoto QuickView. If I want to show the images in the preview, are shows the unedited version. If I want to edit the pictures back into iPhoto, then the old edits will become visible again (for some pictures) but they can not be saved.
I have about 35,000 photos in the library, spread over about 1600 events.

  • IPhoto 7.1 won't import .CR2 (RAW) image files

I'm shooting with a Canon 30D, and had no problem importing RAW images (.CR2 files) into iPhoto 08. However, after installing the update for iPhoto 7.1, I get an error message saying that the .CR2 file type isn't recognized. What the ****?
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

My understanding is that iPhoto is able to read RAW files that the underlying OS can handle (which is why you see updated RAW compatibility added with various OS updates).
    I have a 30D and have upgraded to 7.1
I just opened a folder of CR2 files and dragged and dropped into iPhoto and they imported fine. I have not tried downloading direct from camera as I tend to copy things over using a card reader.
So, in terms of troubleshooting, I suggest:
1 - can you see open the CR2 using preview? If not sounds like an OS issue.
2 - can you see thumbnails of the CR2 if they're in a folder somewhere? If not consider if the CR2 are corrupted.
3 - If no to 2, then can you open the images using other (Canon) software?
If yes to 1 and 2, the it's likely to be an iPhoto issue.

  • Image no longer displays, appears black

I'm running CC on iMac with Mavericks. I'm editting images building up adjustment layers and I get to 5 or 6 layers and the the image no longer appears - the edit window just shows a black rectangle, the same size as the image. The image is still in memory - if I export, save i can view the image. Adjustments still work - I've tested changing canvas size. I can run pluggins like Nik and the image appears in Nik but all black when it's returned to Photoshop. My only work around is to save image, quit and restart PS. This is seriously slowing down my work flow. This never happened when I was using CS6. I'm working on a high spec imac so shouldn't be a performace / resource issue. I'm only running PS and Lightroom.

  • RAW images no longer recognized after upgrade

    Greetings,
I have a mid-2010 iMac which I have been using iPhoto along with my Nikon D70 without issues for some time. I jsut recently upgraded to Lion and I went to download the pictures on my camera and now it does not recognize the RAW (.NEF) images. I get an error when downloading and nothing ends up in iPhoto. Even when looking at the images that are still on the camera when running iPhoto, they do not display, only gray boxes.
My IPhoto is update to date. iPhoto 11 (9.2.2)
    Verified Disk permissions
    Lion completely up to date.
D70 which has worked on this platform since 10.5 and all iPhotos in between with no issues.
Any ideas?  Anyone think this is a Lion issue or an iPhoto issue?
I usually USB transfer from camera to mac. (D70 has a CF card)
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi Terence,
That was a great idea! I didn't realize there was another application that I could use to download these pictures.
Image Capture was able to see the .NEF images and download all of them off the card. It did notice that there were two images that it thought corrupted.
Once I reformatted the cards and took some pictures iPhoto was able to see the .NEF images and download them from the camera with no issues.
    Thanks again!

  • Adobe Camera RAW (All Versions) Import Canon .CR2 / RAW images with an orange / green color cast.

All versions of Adobe Camera RAW including the latest 7.3 import .CR2 images with a greenish / orange color cast.
Tested on 7D, and 5D III
Makes Hardwood floors, and flesh tones look abysmal.
Canon's Digital Photo Professional renders the colors fine, as does ACDSee 5.0 Pro (when viewing)  Exporting from ACDSee however is another story as things look even worse than Adobe.  DPP can export perfectly.
Changes to Color Gammut / Space have little or no effect.

    Good day!
You might want to post on the dedicated Camera Raw Forum.

Also posting some screenshots might help illustrate the issue.

  • Background image no longer displays

I have been editing the same site for years. Today when I
opened Contribute and selected a page to edit, the background image
did not appear in the draft. The background was gray instead. I
tried changing the background to a color as an experiment and it
won't change. Its stuck on this gray color. I am afraid to edit the
    page and upload the changes.
The web site appears normally in safari. I tried editing
other pages on the site and the same thing happens on those pages
    too.
Thanks for the help in advance.

The background displays fine in Contribute CS3, so I assume
    you have CS4.
I guess it has something to do with the way Contribute
handles the setting of the background.
Your doctype declaration is <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC
    "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">.
In that version of html it's not allowed to have a background
    attribute in a td tag.
Most of the times browsers do not punish you for these
mistakes, but since standards ar marching on, maybe they will be
less forgiving in future. Apparently Contribute CS4 does punish
    this mistake.
You should solve this by using css to style your html
documents. Or just ignore this as long as you can edit the site and
it displays OK in the browsers.

  • Imessage images no longer display after update

After updating my mac to OS Yosemite, the images in imessages no longer show on the mac, but still appear in the iPhone. Instead of displaying a picture, instead it shows e.g. "IMG_1528"
I tried the PRAM reset with no avail.
The messaging and sending pictures from the mac works perfectly, but if I sent an image from my phone or receiving messages, it appears as an unreadable image displaying text IMG_1528.JPG
I would really like to be able to view incoming images on my mac.
    Thank you for your help,
