CR52-A2 (MS-8352A) problems...
Hello all.
Ok, I just got a brand new 52x24x52 burner, and it doesn't like most of the media I try. It doesn't detect my CD-R's half the time, and the CD-RW that came with the drive doesn't work at all and nither does a CD-RW that I already have (Memorex 4x that's known to work).
So far I've only been able to burn 3 discs (1 audio, and 2 data), and it was a REAL pain to get those to burn.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated, thanks.
BTW, the firmware is the latest 150D, but it does the same with the 143D that the drive came with.
im having the same problem. also when im running the nero package that was with the burner i always seem to get drive no inishlizing like it will not even detect the cd writer. I have used it a couple of times. also i have taken it out and plugged it back in and still the same response. Any suggestions i have the new drivers but dont know how to update in dos mode im running xp pro. any help would be appreciated!!!!!

CR52-M Firmware update problem
Hi there, I have just fitted an MSI CR52-M CDRW and ran live update to check for firmware. It said I had version 3.30 and 3.70 was available. I started the update procedure following exactly in windows mode and while it was updating it just simply crashed.
I used the flash recovery floppy it got me to create, but this just set me back to 3.30.
I tried again via live update, but this time chose to do it in dos mode. After going through the process and rebooting etc. It still says I have version 3.30?
Is there a problem with this firware upgrade or am I perhaps overlooking something?
I thank you in advance for any help and advice.Quote

May not be. If u want to update firmware, why not manually download the thing and update it manually rather than use live update. -
CR52-A4 - Problem updating the firmware
Hello,
I've just bought a CD-RW (CR52-A4) and it seems not to be able to recognize some CD-RW (Nero InfoTool reports some CD-RW 10x as 4x and some CD-R 52x as 16x). My firmware is 1.10 and I'm using Live Update to upload 2.20. When I use Windows I get a popup error windows "Send Data to Device Error") and when I try the DOS boot disk with the same firmware I have a similar error (Write Buffer Error).
Does someone have the same problem? (and the solution ;-)
On Linux too, CD speeds are not correctly detected (BTW, are there Linux software to upgrade the firmware?).
Thanks,
Christophe.Quote from: NovJoe on 01-March-05, 20:41:32
Does this happens to all types of media that's placed in the system or only a few types only?
This happens at least to all types of media I have tried. (3 different kinds of CD-RW and 1 kind of CD-R) -
Ok I'm having some problems with this drive...
1. If I Have a cd inside the drive when i shutdown my system, it takes ages to shutdown..5, 10 minutes (sometimes even friezes)..i'm tired to remove the cds every time I turn of my system.
2.My windows XP says it is a ATAPI CD-RW52XMAX but isn't suposed to say MSI CR52-M ou some kind of MSI Cd-Rw?
3.Some cds wont recognize and sometimes my drive is slowest as donkey copying files or playing.
Maybe a update of the firmware will resolve this??My version is 3.20 and in live update it says no update are avaiable (maybe 2º problem is relationated, the live update updates a drive that don't exist for MSI) but i've seen 3.70 firmware for this drive. Is this 3.70 firmware secure to use??And the DMA is on and I have the drive on Primary Master (not on Secondary Master because I have my HDDs on Sata)
Please help me as soon as possibleYes, i've bougth this drive for the same reason, great motherboard=great optical devices. I'm still having problems with this drive. Although i've flashed it with firmware 3.90 from CR52 and it now reconizes as a CR52 MSI drive and it works a little better. But not much better...With this flash as a downsize because the read light turns to be the red one, and writing is the green one, they are inverted. I belive that we have this problems because they are bulk versions of CR52-M. Your version is bulk too?

CR52-A2 Problem (ChronicOverrunProtection)
Hey folks,
Im having a problem where no matter what speed im burning at, (even at 4x), my computer gets all jittery...
I had Nero tell me how many times the buffer ran out on a few burns, and it said that the burn proof thing saved me 120-200 times...
My System should be able to handle burning CD's at any speed. I have updated to the Newest Firmware, and the Newest BIOS for my System.
Any ideas?

I'm just now using the CDRW writing feature of my dive before now all I did was burn data to CDRs. But now I'm using the CDRWing it. I flashed my BIOS to be able t do overbuning (I used the CR52_A2_220 that is now currently on MSI website) I've bought 12x and 24x Memorex CDRW discs and I kinda confused on them. Now with the 12x discs using Nero or Windows (I have XP just in cause you were wondering) I can rewrite to it, but when I use a 24x disc and write to it as soon as I but the disc back in my pc a dialog box pops up and ask me if I want to make a new disc in Win or NERO or do nothing. But I just wrote to this disc it should as me if I want to add more stuff to it, plain and simple it won't read the data on the disc.
Also when I try to erase data on the 24x disc when I tell NERO to erase the disc it give me an Internal Error and shuts Nero down and goes back to the Smart Start screen.
What disc are compatible with CR52-a2 that are CDRW
Also here is a little brain storming I came up with to try and solve my problem
the CR52-A2 - 24X,32X(CAV) - 4X,8X,12X,16X(CLV) and I'am thinking the CDRW featrue only works with CLV Thats why I can rewrite to it. It need CLV to do some rewriting and erasing. Just a little something I cooked up Here the web site I got the specs from. http://www.3dvelocity.com/reviews/ms8352cdrw/ms8352.htm
So I wondering are the memorex disc compatible with NERO or not and if not what discs are
Basically I having trouble so if I could get some help I'll be most appreciativeI just bought some TDK 12x speed discs form Best Buy and they don't work on my windows re-write interface. When I insert the discs I used windows to write to it ... it wrote to it ... I ejected it and try to read to it again ... but it would not read. And I found a site that shows you the compatible discs with the CD R that you have but .... well I just guessing I have to get some discs that only write up to 74 min not 80 cause almost all the discs on that PDF file are 74 min. Could any one suggest some other way or the problem I having with my drive.

There is a note at the bottom of the page:
Note: You should not update your firmware unless you have
have flash experience with your optical drive.
But, I will try to download firmware from my girlsfriend's drive. That is the same type. And think that is 160D.

hi
did you install sw ide when you installed system drivers?
nvidesm can be nvidia ide drivers.
they work for some and fore som not.
they messed up my harddrives.
when installing you get asked if you want to install them or not.
i dont know if these ide drivers are included in 2.03 but thought it could be worth mention.
but they are included on the cd that came with the motherboard.
i read in here that you dont have to reinstall windows to get rid of them.
you only have to install system drivers again and say no when asked to install them.

Can anyone write faster that 16x with a CR52-A2 at these modes? I think there is a drive limitation here HIDDEN by MSI.
In order to choose DAO/96 in Nero u have to copy a "no multisession cd" or an audio cd. You don't have to burn a disk, just make a simulation copy.
Please report your findings. If there is a physical limitation of the drive, that gives us the right to ask for our money back (that's what I intend to do) if a firmware update won't solve the problem soon.there is not a single person here with cr52-a2 that can test it either with DAO-RAW or DAO/96????

I need help with MSI CR52-A2 52x24x52x CDRW Drive
Hi,
I am running Windows XP Home Edition. My MSI CR52-A2 52x24x52x CDRW Drive will not work. When I restart my computer the light on it flashes red, green, red, green, red, green, etc... When XP is running, if I click on the drive under "My Computer" it opens up the drive but no files are found. If I try to add new hardware, I'm told that the drive is working properly. When I try to burn a CD with Windows Media Player I'm told no CD Burner is found on my system. Please help! Does this have to do with the BIOS?Welcome to the forum superaverage.
1) Before posting any problems related to your optical drive, please post full system specs AND PSU rails (look at my signature).
2) Tell us how do you have your drive setup (Master, Slave, in primary channel or secondary channel).
Edyros!
The recommended setup for ANY CD-R/W or DVD-R/W is to set them in the secondary channel as secondary master (assuming that your primary master is your HDD).
If you're using nero as your burning program, try downloading the latest ASPI drivers for windows XP.
Try flashing your drive's firmware to support more media and to fix minor bugs.
ALWAYS use an 80-conductor IDE cable for ANY drive. -
MSI CR48-A2 CDRW BURNER PROBLEM
hi,
i just bought a MSI CDRW Drive, installed it to my System and for sure wanted to test burn a CD-R, i installed the Nero Burner Software which was bundled with the CDRW Ver. 5.5.10.3, Nero tells me i can just burn 16x and no other speeds possible... My CDRW has Firmware Version 130c... what can that be ?

1) MSI CR52-A2 won't write faster than 16x in clonecd DAO-RAW or Nero DAO/96.
2) probably it's not clonecd or nero problem because in other modes the drive writes 52x
3) Many drives from many brands "hit the brakes" when using these special modes. Of course these modes are the only one u can use if u want to backup protected cds.
4) In many cases these issues are solved with firmware updates
5) until now MSI haven't released a firmware that solves the problem
6) The strange thing is that MSI support answered to a email I send them that CR52-A2 "should write 52x DAO-RAW".
7) I think MSI support team is a stupid and ignorant team because it's not a one program failure. Both clonecd and Nero can't write faster than 16x in these special RAW modes.
QUESTION: Is anyone able to write faster than 16x in Clonecd DAO-RAW or Nero DAO/96???? Please test it and report back -
Help! CR52-A2 Disk Compatibility Issue
I have a CR52-A2 that does not read my Norton Systemworks 2003 install disk. It just spins up and then eventually stops. It reads the old Norton SW 2000 disk fine. One time it read the disk as an audio and windows media started up, but otherwise it has just quit trying after working for a few minutes. I updated the firmware to 160. My old Toshiba DVD drive read it fine a week ago. Thinking of installing the Toshiba back in my system along with the MSI CD-RW until the problem is fixed. Any ideas how to solve this problem?
1) you must update in real dos with a bootdisk.
Yesterday I have have update my drive with Liveupdate, easy and works good.
2) check your dmasettings (enable) of the idecontroller.
3) I can burn and read the most new cdr/cdrw, only old cdrw's burn with my old Philipsdrive wil not burn. -
Pb With Msi Cr52-m Ver 3.60
HI,
IT CAN'T WRITE CDRW AND CAN'T FORMAT THEM .....I HAVE TRIED WITH CDRW OF 700 MO VERBATIM 2X-4X
NO PROBLEM WITH CDR MEDIA
I HAVE TRIED NERO 5.5 BUNDLED AND NERO 6.0 ,ASPI VERSION 4.60,ASPI 4.7
MASTER ALONE AND SLAVE......NO CHANGE.
HELP ME PLEASEThe same problem. May be firmware fault. I think, you can exchange drive to some other model (SONY, for example), because 4x media speed support officially allowed, so you can exchange it, if 4x CDRW media support are important for you. May be MSI fix it in future versions of firmware? If so, you can wait some while. CR52-M excellent drive, but media support is very important thing too.

I bought an MSI CR52-M cd-writer.
After installing MSI CR52-M i installed nero burning rom 5 wich was bundeld with the cd-writer .
After restarting my computer i launched nero and saw that it did not reconize the MSI CR52-M as a recorder.
I have tried multiple other burning programs but none seem to see the MSI CR52-M as a writer they just see it as a cd-rom drive. like nero does.
It seems to function perfectly as a cd-rom but not as a cd-writer.
In the contol panel under system it says that it is a cd-rom drive. Is this normal ? I use windows me. In the manual it says that windows me will automaticly detect and install the correct driver and that there is no need to install a driver.
I saw the firmware update on the msi site but therefore you need to be able the restart in dos witch isnt possible in windows me. and would that help ?
Is there something i can do to resolve this problem ?Try the registry checker over at http://www.ahead.de , and also get the latest nero update while your there.
If there is another drive on the IDE cable woth the writer try the write on it's own. -
I have problem with my CR48-A2. It cannot read some cd-rs that he burns himself. Example some Princo cd-r s and some other. It burns it well, but than he failed to reads it.when he is trying it, the RPM goes from high to low often, and windows locked up. I use Win98SE and Nero 5.5 which I got with CDRW. I update firmware to 160d, but it didnt help. Anybody help me?
Tnx
DjumaI've done a little search and found out that:
Please test it and report back

Re: skype to go in Japan
Is there a reason for this? Skype pretty much doesn't have any extended features for Japan. Is this due to some Japanese restrictions? Living here, I wouldn't find that surprising. But what I do find surprising is Skype saying exactly what's up anywh
