Crack in back cover of iPhone 3G

Hi,
I have noticed a crack in the back plastic panel of my iphone, it is by the mute switch. I believe the case i have may have caused this, by pulling the phone in and pushing it in.
How can I get the black plastic back panel replaced or repaired. Many Thanks.
Kind Regards.

  • Aluminium back cover for iPhone 3G?

Does anyone know if I can get the plastic back cover of iPhone 3G replaced with a metallic one? I know there is color ware (http://www.colorwarepc.com/p-161-iphone-3g.aspx) for getting iPhone painted. But it would be nice if to have a metallic back like 1st generation iPhone. Atleast, it would solve the cracking issue!

    According to Colorware, http://www.colorwarepc.com/p-161-iphone-3g.aspx
the OEM warranty is replaced by Colorware's warranty. Read the little box above the "Product details".

  • Swelling in iPhone 3GS battery, and cracking of back cover.

    I need some help.
I updated my iPhone 3GS 16GB to iOS 5.0.1, and I think it causes the phone to overheat or something. Next day when I see my phone, the battery is drained out and the back is swollen like a ballon, the back cover has some cracks too (near the logo).
Today, after 2/3 days when I checked my phone again the battery has kept of bending/swelling that it has opened the iphone pushing the back cover and front screen.
The phone was bought in US, and I have moved back to India. Can someone help me on what to do or who to contact?
    Thanks

Since you are outside the country of purchase, you are not going to be able to get it serviced. Also, since you are presumably not using AT&T for service, the phone had to be hacked. That means all bets are off. My money would be on a physical defect in the battery or charging circuit that caused the problem, but it's entirely possible that since the OS had to be modified to get it to run on your carrier, that could have caused the charging circuit to behave in a way it shouldn't have. Dispose of it safely. DO NOT just throw it in the trash.

  • Crack on back cover spreading up from dock connector -- anyone else?

Two week-old black iPhone 3G 16GB. Kept in a leather slip-case. Never sat on, dropped or abused. Free of scratches.
Now has a 10mm-long crack spreading up from the middle of the dock connector.
Called Apple tech support, told I'd get a free replacement, went on hold, then told that actually it was accidental damage and I'd be charged for repair, "even if it's a design fault", because it arrived from O2 without a crack in it.
Looking up inside the dock connector, there's no support for the case and the edge can flex inwards with just the tiniest pressure.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone had any success getting Apple to replace it?
Unfortunately, the only camera I've got with me is on my iPhone, so it'll be a challenge to take a picture of the crack today!

Second phone call to Apple, still no joy. Some interesting tid-bits:
    1) Absolutely no advanced-replacement option possible: "it's not like a little power supply or something -- the iPhone is different". Send it in for an evaluation is the only Apple option aside from trekking to an Apple store for evaluation.
    2) The cost to replace the back cover, if found to be 'accidental damage', is £146 for an 8GB, probably more for a 16GB (?!)
    3) The guy was unable to tell me how Apple assesses if something is 'accidental damage', and couldn't put me through to someone who could. He also refused to put me through to anybody else to discuss the matter further.
    4) He said that he wasn't interested in listening to anything that had been posted on a forum regarding cracking issues or anyone getting a replacement from Apple.
    5) My only other option, he said, was to take it in to an O2 shop and have a go at getting a replacement from them.
I waffled on about 'fit for purpose', this being a premium product, and being a loyal Apple customer for years to absolutely no avail -- he wouldn't budge and give me a replacement, offer a free repair, or acknowledge any potential design faults. Like talking to a brick wall of policy! Quite different to the only other experience I've had with Apple tech support.
Interesting to hear about the moisture sensor, neuroanatomist -- thanks!

  • Does apple sell the back cover for iphone 5?

As we all know the iphone 5 back cover is made of aluminum and how easily it's edges can get scratched....
now if i don't like protective covers and I am willing to invest in replacing the back cover after a while with an original one, can I purchase it from apple?

Apple does not sell any iPhone parts. 3rd party suppliers like iFixit.com would be your best bet, but will void any warranty you may have.

  • CAN I CHANGE THE BACK COVER OF IPHONE 5

I have a small scratch(hollow) near the on/off button of my black iphone 5. Can I change /buy a new back cover from Apple ?

It is possible to change the casing of the phone.  However, it is not available for purchase.  I would recommend buying a light case to cover and protect the back of your phone.

  • Is it possible to replace the front n back cover of iPhone 4S? External crack both the side no internal issues!!!

Hi can somebody help me give me proper information relating to broken iPhone replacement. I don't have warranty left now, I brought it from Basel Switzerland. But now m in india. My iPhone 4S is broken or crack on both the side front n back. There is no  internal issues but just an external cracks at the front glass n the back black cover. How must will this cost without warranty in India? Where should I approach for repairing??? Please somebody let me know if it's possible to repair. Thank you

    Possible, yes.
Will Apple do it, not a chance.
Apple does not replace the screen on the 4S.  Apple will replace the entire device for the Out of Warranty repair cost but only in the country of origin of the device.  In your case that would be Switzerland (or any EU country as EU is treated as a single country for warranty and support purposes).

  • I fell and crack the back of my iPhone 4S now the phone and 4S quit working.

Tried restoring, and taking out SIM card didnt work. Can Apple do anything to help or will I have to buy a new phone

Apple will replace the iPhone for you if you pay for because the warranty down't cover damage. The chage for a replacement is generally about half the cost of buy a new one.

  • Replacing the back cover

I had recent cracked the back cover of my phone and it's starting to bug me now, is there anyway i can take it off and replace it? I know i can take it off, but will it void warrenty? Also where would i get a new cover from? I would kind of like to have a customized cover, but what ever works.
    Thank you.

Tamara has a good suggestion, at least until your warranty runs out.
This is a good case and hardly adds any volume to the iPhone... http://www.myincipio.com/category/iphonecases.iphone_feathercase/

  • Dropped iphone 4s and back cover has a huge crack. any way to fix the crack

I accidentally dropped my iphone 4s and the back cover has a crack, how can i fix it?

All you can do is get the broken back cover replaced.  First call would be one of your carriers shops or Apple store, other than that loads of repairers on the web. And then get your self a good quality Case for your Idevice
i.e. Otterbox Lifeproof etc saves a lot of hassle

  • Iphone back cover showing cracks for no reason

    never dropped it..
Iphone 3g 8gb showed cracks on the back cover for no reason
I have an unlocked, do you think apple will replace?

Purchased as officially unlocked from your provider and from Apple, your iPhone has a one year warranty. Each warranty claim is handled on a case by case basis.
If hacked to be unlocked or unofficially unlocked, no.
Doing so is against Apple's license agreement for the iPhone, is not supported by Apple, and voids the warranty.

  • Crack in the back cover

Hi, I just noticed that my iPhone 3G's back cover has a little crack just where the mute switch is. Is this a material defect or something? I never dropped my iPhone or anything like that. Can I use Apple's guarantee to let this repair? If so, how can I contact Apple (Germany) for that?
    Thanks

It sounds like the battery might have gone bad, and is swelling and causing the symptoms you describe.  Do not attempt to use the phone, but take it to Apple for evaluation.
