Cracked 8330 LCD cover Question....

I just got my first blackberry and put it on the floor where I accidently stepped on it which ended up cracking the plastic LCD cover.  My carrier, SaskTel, says that it will cost between $50 to $200 to repair it.  Are these things easily replaceable by an average-joe?  If so, where can I purchase one and is there someone who has replaced their LCD cover before (i.e. I need some instructions).
thanks for your help.

hello,
you can find videos on youtube that show how to disassemble a Curve device. You need to have the proper screwdrivers, as well as steady hands.
For spare parts including a new LCD, a black trackball, a new color keyboard, there are many online stores like cnn.cn (nothing to do with the information channel).

  • LENOVO G550 DC-T4500 Tragedy, Internal crack on LCD screen

Well i am new to this forum and when i was looking for ‘Lenovo customer service’ on Google, i realised that there are many people in the same boat as me.
Well i never imagined this to happen to me, but the fact is it has happened. I purchased a new ‘LENOVO G550 DC-T4500’ which is a new laptop by Lenovo at a very low price. Well i had a low budget and was thinking of getting a small netbook, but then I saw this Lenovo ad at center.com and went and purchased it from them on 11th November 2010. I got the laptop in my office and kept it there for a week. Finally after 7 days i took it home. I did not use it instantly because I had to setup many things like Microsoft office etc and just didn’t get the time to do that. Finally after 7 days I opened it up and installed Microsoft office. I used it for like 2 hours. The next day i opened the laptop and then was trying to set the internet, and after an hour the laptop screen went blank. I did not use it even for 4 complete hours. I gave it back to center.com and they asked me whether i dropped it. Well the fact is i never dropped it. It was used just like for four hours in total. I don’t have kids or pets in my house. I stay with my husband and we both are old enough to handle laptops. Well this crack was not an external crack on the screen but an internal crack on the LCD screen. Now isn’t that weird that there is no crack on the laptop but a cack developed on the LCD screen and they say that it has been dropped. Now i don’t know how to prove that i did not drop the laptop, but the real truth is that i never did anything to the laptop for it to develop that internal crack. When i returned it back to center.com i returned it with complete packing because all this time when the laptop was with me it was packed and i opened it up after 7 days and used it for 4 just hours in total.
Center.com told us that Lenovo has rejected the warranty in this case and gave me a number for lenovo’s customer service department. I called up lenovo’s customer service department for like 4 days. Each time a different person answered the phone and gave me different answers. Some said we are looking into it. Finally they made me go crazy then finally one person called and said the same thing, he is looking into the case. After few days he sent an email and said that they can’t help and the crack cannot develop on its own and if I have to get it repaired I have to pay like almost the same amount as that of the laptop. This is ridiculous, absolutely disappointing.
Well even if Lenovo does not help me i would like to tell all those people who are reading this, buying a laptop from Lenovo and then going through all the pain for no mistake of yours is the worst thing that can ever happen to a customer. And no matter how big this company is, but the fact is that they are not worth it. I pray this does not happen to anyone else. I felt cheated and hurt. I will never ever recommend anyone to buy a laptop from Lenovo.

first let me say that I am in know way implying that you broke your screen but you can crack the LCD screen without causing damage to the case you can set something on it and cause a pressure crack pressure from your fingers can crack it  as for internal external it appears to be internal because the clear plastic on the outside does not crack like glass there had to be some kind of force to crack the screen they just don't brake they go out from time to time as in no video but not crack

  • Dust under the LCD cover, sticky/non-responsive keyboard..

    Hello,
I've been trying to find information on this.
I purchased this phone, outright, from Bell when they finally started selling it a couple of weeks ago.  Since then, the phone has aquired a large amount of dust under the LCD cover (and continues to do so).  The keys sometimes "stick" or feel like they cannot be pushed down (but are registering).
I contacted my carrier, Bell, over the phone and the CSR told me to go into a local Bell store to get it checked out.
I went to my local Bell store and a worker there told me that I can't get it exchanged and that I should just open the phone myself to clean out the dust and check the keyboard.
    Is this right?
They're telling me to void the warranty on this brand new phone regarding problems I'm having with it.  Does anyone have any tips on what I should do about this?
My previous phone (which was a Pearl 8130 that I had for 3 years) didn't collect any dust under the LCD screen and had no keyboard issues.

your warranty and support is through your carrier you need to be firm and explain it better to them your issue. You should not have dust on the LCD so soon with a new device (unless it is damaged) as for sticky keys, i never had a sticky key with the hundreds of devices we have unless some one spilled something on it. If it is a factory defect, again you have to get this taken care of with your carrier and they are the first line in warranty support.
    Good Luck.

It would be part of the warranty coverage if it is a factory defect, yes. User damage to the LCD is not covered.

  • BlackBerry Curve 8330 Email Deletion Question

Greetings and Salutations Black Berry People!
I have a BlackBerry Curve 8330 and a question concerning it.
My phone is currently connected to an exchange server that I sync with my phone. Is there a way to delete emails from my phone all at once, a mass purge of old emails under 1 condition: I don't want the emails on the exchange ( the old ones) to be deleted as well.
I've set my phone to delete messages from my phone after 30 days but can I do what I said in the above paragraph now?
    Thanks a bunch!

    hello,
in the messages application options, there is one to check delete on : handheld only.
so that if you delete a message on your blackberry, it is not deleted on the server.
in the messages list, you can hover on a date, hit menu key and select "delete prior". It will delete all messages that have a date before that date.

  • Trackpad crack and LCD bleed

    Hi,
I purchased the new MBP a week after release. It's my first mac after using Windows for years, and other than getting used to some of the UI conventions, I'm quite really happy with my purchase. It's a great machine and I love the display, the solid feel and pretty much everything about it. There are however a couple of things I've noticed which I had some questions about.
LCD: it's pretty much great. no dead pixels, wonderful contrast. However, I have noticed that when the screen is black, I get a fair amount of bleed on the left and right side. Is this normal?
Trackpad: I haven't had the issue of missed clicks that other people have, or at least I haven't noticed it as I have tap to click enabled. I have also not noticed any dead zones. One thing that I've found just by touching it is that there seems to be a hairline crack around the left corner. I don't think it's impacted sensitivity of the area, but if I run my finger over it, I can definitely feel it. It's not terribly visible unless you look at it nearly from the side of it. Is this something I should be concerned about or get replaced?
These things don't seem to be issues now, but I'm just wondering if I should get them looked at. Anyway, any help or comments are appreciated. I'm really liking the whole Apple experience.
    Thanks in advance!
    TomWC

Since we have started to play the "I am with" game, I have to say that I am with Carl on this one!
Carl had never written anything about the original poster having a "dumb question". He had just questioned his course of action.
If one were to suffer from the issues that the original poster had written about, they should contact Apple right away.
Furthermore, if you expect Apple to address any issue, you need to contact them. They do not read these threads. Apple Discussions is not a way to submit problems to Apple. If you want Apple to fix it, contact them. By doing this, you will be helping anyone else that might experience the same issue in the future.

  • Crack between bottom cover and unibody

    Hello!
I have replaced my MacBook's HDD, and since I have done that, a small crack appeared between the bottom cover and the unibody at the left side of the notebook.
I have tried to fix it by bending the bottom cover a bit, but this doesn't seem to make any difference. Is this crack a normal phenomenon, or is there a way to fix this?
Hope someone can answer this question for me!
    With kind regards,
    Jeffrey van den Broek

Not normal for the bottom case to crack, Would make sure the top case was installed correctly, they have gray spacer type locks that slide in and out on the sides and front, one could be mis-aligned and putting pressure on the case, also over tighten screws could be causing the problem.

    Hello rog (rogerdale)
    (1) You are now posting in the iSight forum.
You are already getting sound advice on this problem at your other post about this topic,
      http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10661272
and you have already determined that your Mac is an iNtel Mac, NOT a G5.
    (2) Your posted System Info still shows iMac G5 intel 17". To reduce confusion for those trying to help you, you should correct this (remove "the "G5) next time you are logged into  "Discussions. (If you don't know how to change your System "Info, you can do so via the "My "Settings" link in the upper "right quadrant of each "page.)
    (3) Your posted System Info also shows that you are using Mac OS X (10.5.1). If that is correct, you should download and install the latest version of OS X for your system:
      http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
Once updated, use "My Settings" to correct your OS version number, too.
    (4) A search for iNtel iMac user installable (do it yourself) items shows that users can upgrade memory:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3011
However, the search did NOT show that replacing or upgrading the display or video card, the parts of your Mac that may need service, is a recommended operation for users.
Having tried all troubleshooting methods available to you and other users in your original topic on this problem, you should now contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for service.
The Apple Technicians can use their technical information, test gear, and diagnostic software to accurately identify your problem Even if you are technically capable of replacing internal components, the AASP's diagnosis may yield an estimated cost to repair your Mac that is less than buying parts based on users' guesses.
See the iMac Service FAQs for more info on your service options:
      http://www.apple.com/support/imac/service/
    (5) You ask:
... this lcd won't work?? ... If anyone knows ... why it wouldn't work, could you please help ??
If you still want to proceed with replacing your display by yourself, you are more likely to get other users' answers to your part interchangeability question by posting the question:
     • at your other, original, existing topic   - or -
     • in the iNtel iMac Forum that has already been suggested to you in your other topic:
      http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=189
For a definitive answer, contact your AASP.

  • MBP retina early 2013 cracked screen LCD

Hi, Im from argentina and I had an accident while using my MBP Retina early 2013 15 inch which ended in a LCD crack. I´ve called apple in aventura mall, miami (where I bought it) to ask them if the fact that my laptop in under warranty could help me on the screen replacement, but they told me that by no means apple would cover it. So I went ahead and asked them how much would a reparation cost me, as I could have a friend of mine taking my mbp to their store to have it fixed. BUT THEY REFUSED EVEN TO GIVE ME AN IDEA of an estimated price. This is really freaking me out, not only because of the distance but also because its a screen model (7171) which they have to replace, nothing more than that. Why cant they tell me a price in advance so that I can figure out what to do?. I saved a lot of money for this purchase, and Im a real apple customer as I have being using Macs, iPads and Iphones for many years, which makes me feel real bad about the customer service...
Have someone been through this lately??
    Kind Regards,
    Gon.

HI.  I opened my late MBpro 15inch a week ago and heard a funny noise  .Like a pop.  Shortly after I noticed a crack in the LED screen.  I went to a Genius Bar and they told me that the screen damage was not covered by my warranty ..I then went home and noticed that the crack had spread right across the screen.  I also noticed that I would get a black screen on 2 occasions that was fixed by resetting the PRAM.  I decided that I'd have to fork out the $900 to have it fixed.  I went to the Apple store today and booked it in.  The tech was sympathetic and said he would talk to his manager.  When he returned he was apologetic and said that I would have to pay.  Later today my wife picked up the product and was told that we did not have to pay as they could see that the product was faulty but not due to negligence. Good outcome.

  • I have recently gotten a ipad last Christmas 2012 , okay I got a shower and when I came in my room with my ipad it cracked , will apple cover it ? I only had it 3 months

I have recently got a ipad 2 Christmas of 2012 and if was fine all day and I got a shower and I got out and I looked at my ipad it was fine I went into my room and layer it down and when I went to go pick it up it was cracked down the middle :( will apple cover this ? Does iPads come with a 1 year warrenty ? Will they fix it I only had it 3 months .

The standard 1-year Apple Care warranty only covers defects in materials and workmanship, not damage due to accidents.
Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th generation
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad
    $249
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. • An album cover question (and more)

I went to the trouble of putting album covers with my iPod and it worked great, except for once.
I have a crappy PC at home, so I use the Macs at work with my iPod. I have used at least four different computers and the 100 or so songs I uploaded on one specific computer that I only used once don't show the artwork on the iPod. The pics do show up on iTunes on all the comps I have tried.
Also, can I delete the covers? I put the wrong cover on a few songs and then put on the right one, but it still shows the wrong one on the iPod (I can switch between the two in iTunes, but that seems to do no good).
One final question (finally, right?). My crappy PC at home can't run iTunes and I've avoided hooking the iPod up to it, but can I use it just to charge the iPod, or am I playing with fire switching between platforms?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hey!
You aren't playing with fire so long as you don't load up iTunes on the PC at any point.Otherwise you might want to set your Pod to manually update songs thru iPod preferences. This way it won't sync and erase everything!
The issue with covers is pretty simple to correct(took me 4yrs to work it out!!).
Highlight the song in iTunes>get info>Artwork tab>select to delete or drag the A/W you want to display to first position.....done.
    Cheers,
    John
    PS
You can keep multiple A/W and chop and change whenever. Also,if you're running Tiger OSX get the album art widget, you can then apply to single or multiple tracks!Really cool!
    Cheers.

  • 9300 LCD 'Cover' Screen

    ARRRGGHHH
    Hi,
I dropped my phone yesterday whilst outside and got kicked by someone walking past me :-|
Unfortunately the lcd screen on the front of the phone has been cracked in 3 places making it useless.
I have no insurance with my phone contract (Vodafone) and was wondering if I can get a replacement screen, how much it costs, is it easy to replace etc, etc..
    Can anyone help me please.
    Cheers,

    Hi
Best thing to do is take it to a Nokia Service Centre. You could always phone ahead to get an estimate.

  • E90 Horizontal Black Line in LCD Cover Display

Recently noticed a small black horizontal line in E90 cover LCD display. Line was getting longer and shorter througout the day. Sometimes stretching across the entire width of the display. Updated the phone's software but no use. Nokia Careline advisor suggested removing the battery, SIM card and memory card for 15 minutes, but this did not help either. In the end, took the phone to the Nokia Care Centre where they admitted this is a common hardware problem with Nokia displays. They even have a problem code associated with this 'Black line in LCD'. Phone is under warranty and is with them for repair.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Phone back from repair and line is gone. Not sure what they did!

  • LCD Touchscreen Question

    Hello,
I have a 42" LCD Touchscreen (from Panelworx) with a integrated CPU that connects to the screen via HDMI. I am running a Flash Projector file in 100%, Fullscreen mode, developed using AS2, CS3. The problem/question is when we shut the monitor off and turn it back on the Flash Projector file is completely white, but if we dont have it in fullscreen and turn the monitor on/off everything comes back just fine. Turning the monitor on/off is necessary for the customer so I have to figure something out. I know it is a unique question//problem but I was hoping someone would have some insight, suggestions, similar story...
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Not necessarily.  There are a number of LCD HDTV's that sport features intended to "pull" the primary objects in a picture "towards the audience," which can add a great deal of depth to even SD programming.  Although such options don’t result in a higher resolution being displayed, they do typically mean that you might have an easier time distinguishing people and moving objects from static backgrounds when compared to watching the same image on an old CRT model.  I believe that Philips calls this function Pixel Plus 3 HD on their TVs, but different manufacturers will obviously call it by different names.
