Cracked glass

cracked glass should be under warranty? accidentally dropped the iPod touch not even 3 feet and the glass cracked. that is a very "POOR GLASS"considering you pay a huge amount and apple will not cover it under their warranty?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
User damages aren't covered by Apple, so be more careful with the device. Apple doesn't repair iPods, so you will receive a refurbished iPod touch. See "Repair Pricing" > http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod

  • Problem: Cracked glass screen (iPhone 4)

    Problem: Cracked glass screen
Condition: my iPhone is less than 2 mos old.
Question: Totally aware that the warranty excludes damages due to accidents etc. but its freakin a month and a half old! Could it be repaired free of charge or for a cheaper cost? or replaced?!

What does its age have to do with being broken?
What is the difference between breaking a new iphone vs and old one?  You broke it.
You can look for a third party repair facility (voids the warranty) to see if they are cheaper.
Apple will charge $199 in the U.S.

  • Can I replace a cracked glass on the iPad

Can I replace a cracked glass on the ipad

Yes, but you cannot do it yourself.
Make an appointment and then head to an apple store, they'll replace it if you have a warranty.

  • I7 iMac Arrives With Cracked Glass. Apple Customer Service Acts Suspect.

So the i7 iMac arrives. Excited and scared — because I've heard all the stories about "bad iMacs" being delivered. I unpack it and place it on the top to admire it's girth and beauty. It truly is glorious! I remove the static sleeve and begin to remove the plastic cover. That's when I noticed it. A crack in the glass. Like everyone reports. Bottom left corner. About 1" long and 1/4" wide. It's as if something applied pressure in a weak spot during production and packaging. I checked the foam sleeve to see where it falls. The crack is covered by the foam so it has to be in production.
So I call Apple Customer Support and explain. Long story short, I took the option to have the glass replaced at an Apple Store rather than exchange it for a new one and gamble the same outcome. I explained what it looked like and what I've read. I also described the box condition — perfect, no damage. The ACS rep said, "Wow. I'm sorry to hear that. I have not heard about this." Then he began to question me on how I unpacked the iMac. Followed by a question as to if I had accidentally banged in on a table corner. I understand they must ask these questions however, I was becoming a little upset at the implications.
After being put on hold three times, he finally stated that I could take it to an Apple Store for a repair or ship it back for replacement. I chose repair. Replacement is to much of a gamble.
I've posted a photo of the crack for people to compare — and any Apple monitors of this board — to see what's going on.

There is another thread in here where the poster says he lay the box on its side on his desk and carefully slid the iMac out of the box. Unfortunately whilst doing this, the styrofoam slipped from the iMac and the iMac fell 2 inches onto the desk.
His iMac had a crack in the glass. Was this caused by the drop onto the desk or prior to being packed? No one can say for sure. His box was undamaged too.
I opened mine vertically and a friend and I lifted the iMac carefully out of the box supporting the iMac's full weight, then carefully placed it upright onto a desk and finally removed the ultra sticky plastic film (very slowly).
iMac i5 - no cracked glass.
Fortunately for the other poster, Apple agreed to replace the item.
I'm happy that you're getting your iMac sorted out, but to other readers thinking of buying or unpacking their new iMac's, remove them from the box in a vertical position, supporting the rear and base of the iMac (hands nowhere near the glass). Better safe than sorry.
If the glass is cracked you can then tell Apple it was unpacked, by 2 people, from the box in a vertical position. This may allow Apple to remove unpacking as a potential cause of the cracks some people are experiencing and narrow down the quality issue (if there is a quality issue - I'm not accusing anyone honest, so don't have a go - just covering all bases)

  • Is there any need to replace cracked glass on mac book pro as long as it still works

Is there any need to replace the cracked glass on macbook pro as long as screen itself is still working?

i'm sure if you search online - you can find deals...
in Canada - you can get the protective glass for around $50 for the 13 Inch and $60 for the 15 Inch.  - see image below.

  • Cracked glass image with transparency (alpha) for overlay?

Any know of a nice cracked glass image PNG file that has transparency (alpha) I could use?
The idea is that it could be overlaid on top of other images so you could still see the photographs behind, but it would be like they are behind cracked glass.
Alternatively, if there are no direct images that match this requirement, then how would I transform easily a photo of cracked glass to one with alpha/transparency?

    1. Desaturate Glass layer.
    2. Make two copies of the desaturated glass layer. Turn off all three of the visibility eyes for these layers in the layers palette.
    3. Turn on the first glass desaturated layer by clicking the eye in the layers palette. First glass desaturated layer (one directly above image) place in Screen blend mode; 100% opacity. If the glass has a hole, use a layer mask or erase to punch a hole in the desaturated layer. Use the levels command to set the glass so to taste...use black slider to push grays to black and use the middle gray slider in the dialog to control transition between black and white. You can also adjust the white slider if desired. Note: If you added a layer mask, click on the desaturated glass image to insure you are using the levels command on the image not the mask.  (Tip: shortcut on PC for levels is Ctrl + L on Mac it is Cmd + L.)
Note: If you need to punch a hole in the image, it's easiest done in Normal blend mode; 100% opacity. Use the quick select tool if you have a version of elements that includes this tool. If you have an older version of Elements before this tool was introduced, the magic wand should also do the trick.
Note: If you punched a hole in the glass save this selection so you can reuse it. Select<Save Selection. You can load this selection again if needed using select<Load selection.
You only need to go to step #4 if you punched a hole in your glass.
4.Go to the first desaturated glass copy (one directly over the one you did in step #3...you should have one above it.) and turn on it's eye visibility in the layers palette.  As before, set this layer to Screen blend mode: 100% opacity. Mask or erase so this layer effect will be limited to the edge of the hole and some of the glass around the edge. Use the levels command to adjust the contrast around the hole. You should concentrate on the white slider and the middle gray to make the hole edges look correct.
Note: To make this easy on myself, I used Select<Load Selection then Select<Inverse before painting back the edge of my glass hole.
    5. Optional: Go to the last desaturated glass copy (this one should be on top of your layers palette stack.) and turn on this layer's eye. Change the blend mode of this layer to Soft Light  blend mode and adjust the opacity to taste.
Above shows my layers using Photoshop. In Elements, the layers will be the same although your user interface will differ. If you have PSE 9, you can use layer masks as I have...see PSE9 layer mask video link I have linked below.
    http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/featured/elements-9-easy-layer-masks/
If you do not have PSE 9, you can either use the eraser tool to erase what you do not need or use a clipping mask or clipping group. (Same thing different name. PSE 8 and PSE 9 call this a clipping mask while all older versions of Elements call this a clipping group.
See tutorial below if you need a tutorial on clipping mask/clipping group.
    http://www.photokaboom.com/photography/learn/Photoshop_Elements/layers/layer_groups_clippi ng_masks/1_layer_groups_clipping_masks.htm
    Alternate method:
You can also use Photoshop brushes and some white paint. Look for brushes that are high resolution...large pixel size...as the smaller brush sizes will be blurry if you have to size them up. These brushes can usually be found using shattered, shatter, broken, smashed, or cracked in the search term. These two sets are nice high resolution sets:
    http://archaii.deviantart.com/art/Shatter-Glass-brushes-82308115
    and
    http://archaii.deviantart.com/art/Shatter-v2-New-101049266
Many more sets are out there on the net at this site and others. This set caught my eye as the brushes look nice and are big brushes. (Keep in mind brushes can be no more than 2500 px in height or width if you think about making brushes from your own images. Brushes that are small sized get blurry when brush tip size is increased so try to make them as large. This is why I suggest looking for large high resolution brushes to begin with.

  • Cracked glass on iPad 2 64GB, out of warrantee

I have cracked glass on my iPad 2 64GB, out of warrantee, but it still works. Will apple still replace it with refurbished unit for $250?

Apple will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee. Select the appropriate issue on this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/repair/
and look at the Out Of Warranty Cost section. In the US it will indeed be $249.
There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair".  You can also look for parts and instructions and do the repair yourself. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPad serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform your own repair, you will get no further support from Apple. That might not matter to you, but just so you're aware.
    Regards.

  • 5s cracked glass replacement option

Just got new 5s 32gb verizon. Cracked glass 2 days after using. No insureance or apple protection purchased other than what new phone comes with. What are my options to replace phone or fix glass? Is there trade in replacement deal with apple since its new phone? Can apple replace glass? Does verizon offer tradein deal replacements or do repairs?

You can get an out of warranty replacement phone from Apple. I believe it's $269 for the 5S. Many Apple Stores in the U.S. can replace the diplay on a 5 for $149. I don't know if that extends to the 5S yet. You'll have to ask at the genius bar.

The warranty will apply to the country of purchase. And if there is a problem needing repair you have to return it to the country of purchase.

  • Cracked glass on mini ipad - recommendations?

What can you do for cracked glass on ipad mini?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

  • Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ cracked glass

I accidentally dropped my 3 month old Yoga Tablet 10 HD+, model number B8080-F.  Everything is working fine except for the cracked glass.  Called local repair shops but were told tablet is quite new and no one has replacement glass part.   Tried calling Lenovo tech support but tech I would have to send it in and pay $99 for them to look at it to determine how much it would cost to replace the glass.  If I choose not to repair it after they provide a quote, I would still have to pay the $99.   Are any alternatives besides paying $99 to get a quote?   Thanks in advance for any suggestions or solutions!

I am guessing from the lack of responses, that you had no luck in getting an answer to this question.  I am not shocked. This just happened to me a couple of days ago and now I come to find out that support for this product is a joke. The support website is also a joke.  I tried finding somewhere to take it to get it fixed and after entering my  - Model #- S/N- Birthdate- TAX ID #- Mother's maiden name- Shoe size ... and agreed to list all of my personal information for Lenovo to resell for a profit, I got a list of links to documents I can find easily through the normal links as well as phone numbers and "Live Chat" links to sales people who can not help me. Only sell me stuff.  Thanks. I can't even find a list of authorized service centers local to me so I can get it fixed without voiding my warranty (Yes, I followed the previusly posted link as well as search every Lenovo website I could find).  By the way, I can not extend the warranty beyond the initial 1 year.  Really?   ** Basically, I purchased a very expensive disposable tablet at a premium product/service price.  Shame on me for not doing my research properly before spending my hard earned money. ** I found replacement glass with digitizer on ebay for $80US but as technical as I am, I do not have the appropriate tools workspace or patience to replace it myself.  Also, I doubt I could put the thing back together after I get it apart judging by the videos of the repair I saw. I am so annoyed at myself I just wanted to vent.  I have ***ZERO*** hope that this post will lead to any real assistance.  Never buying another Lenovo product again without ensuring that the warranty is good and extendable, that there are autorized service centers available in my area and that the product has an actual support eco-system.  Their ThinkServer series is the complete opposite of this experience so I guess I should not have relied on that experience to judge.  Too bad, the product is superior to anything out there in so many ways.  Only thing lacking in my view is proper screen technology so colors look more normal and a protective case offering (which would have avoided this whole issue in the first place).  Hmmm, maybe that is their plan all along ... Buy-Drop-Replace-CHA-CHING!!!

  • Can a cracked glass be replaced.

Can a cracked glass be replaced.

Apple does not replace cracked screens.  They offer out of warranty replacements at about 50% of the cost of the iPad when new.  If your iPad is no longer in warranty, there are 3rd party repair facilities, which will replace a cracked screen.  My money would be on the Apple out of warranty replacement program.

  • Iphone crack glass

Cost to repair iphone 5s damage (crack) glass?

Go to Apple Store and find out. or call the Apple store and ask.
Normally around $100 maybe a little more.
Have Apple do it, not one of those fly by night kiosks in the malls.
    Good Luck

  • Broken screen, not cracked glass on Xperia Z2

Sounds like a GPU issue (Graphics chip) so I'm sorry to hear this but you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care and have your device inspected http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

Yesterday I was driving my car to pick up a friend. When I picked up the Xperia Z2 to call him, the screen was broken. The glass hasn't cracked, but the screen is shiowing lines of different colors, and it's only getting worse. It is hard to read texts now. I didn't drop the phone on the floor, my pockets were not tight, and i can't understand why it's broken. I've had this phone only since Feburary. Does this go under the warranty?
