Cracked MBP Late 2013 Screen

Yes, I stupidly fell asleep in my bed while I had my MBP with the open screen and when I woke up it was in the floor, I thought it would be fine but I cracked the side of the screen, pretty badly. I can see most part of it but I definitely can't work like this. Thankfully I have an external monitor for now. What should I do? I know these MBP's are all integrated and I did not buy AppleCare. Around how much does it cost to change one of the screens, if it's possible?

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. Call the Apple Store to find out about repair costs.

  • MBP late 2013 won't connect to TV with HDMI cable

Yesterday I connected my MBP (late 2013) with a SCEPTRE TV using an HDMI cable and it worked perfectly.
I wake up the next day and try to connect it again but the TV says "No Signal"
I didn't touch the set up in any way so nothing changed physically.
    Please help

  • A solution that works for Windows 8.1 on MBP Late 2013

Here is how I could successfully install Windows 8.1 on Mbp Late 2013 running Maverick:
Follow precisely these steps and you will be done in 30 minutes:
1/ Using BootCamp Assistant, create a USB stick and select all three options including Bootcamp updates, etc.
2/ Set your partition size when asked.
3/ IMPORTANT: When reboot, Hold the Option key and Boot again on Maverick (do not boot on the USB stick)
4/ When back on Maverick, run Disk Utility, select Macintoch partition and choose Partition tab.
5/ Select the BOOTCAMP newly created partition (the one at the bottom) and press minus to remove it.
6/ Apply for changes. At this point, BOOTCAMP partition should be gone.
7/ Press + to add a new partition that will likely be called Machintoch HD2 or so.
    8/ Rename it to BOOTCAMP
9/ IMPORTANT: Change the partition type to ExFAT.
    10/ Apply again for changes.
11/ Reboot your Mac and Press Option again. Select WINDOWS (Orange USB device)
12/ Windows installation process should start and bring you to the partition selection.
13/ Select the BOOTCAMP partition (the one at the bottom) and FORMAT it.
14/ Press Next and get going through Windows 8.1 installation.
15/ IMPORTANT: Each time a reboot occurs, press Option key and select WINDOWS Drive (NOT the ORANGE USB stick)
16/ Finally, Windows 8.1 will get installed and will ask for BOOTCAMP drivers to get installed. Just follow the instructions.
    17/ You are done.
    P.

Ohhhh, Silly, silly moi. Ok, got it. Now I see "Partition". Thanks! Will try again. Downloading Windows support software as I type.
    Thank you.
One more thing - while attempting installation the first time (before I stumbled on this thread) - I looked up YouTube re how to create a USB bootable ISO (which included editing the info.plist file in Boot Camp Assistant).
When I tried installing 8.1 from the ISO, the installation aborted saying "cannot find resources" (something like that) - this occured after the first stage, i.e. while "preparing files to install Windows".
Assuming I get this again (I hope not!), is it because of a corrupted ISO?

  • Yosemite slow on MBP late 2013, did several clean installs

I've got a MBP late 2013 which I upgraded from Mavericks to OS Yosemite. When I did it, the impact was bad: all applications and OS is slow, to write an email or to  open simple files have to wait more than 30 secs. i have read all the topics here, have done clean install several times with time machine restore of only apps.
Still MBP is slow, have done PRAM, MCC etc.
    how to solve this?

  • MBP late 2013 and TP-Link Archer C7 at 5Ghz

My MBP late 2013 is unable to establish a stable connection with TP-Link Archer C7 AC 1750 at 5Ghz. The connection is working fine for some time and drop to nothing after that. The only way to restor it, is to reboot the router. At same time the Apple TV is working okay at 5Ghz and there are no problems.

    try OpenWRT.
I'm ordering the same router and am planning to run it with OpenWRT. Depending on the hardware revision of the router, openwrt will (or will not) run.
Hope my router will arive this week and will be able to share my success report.

  • Have Memory DDR3 instead of DDR3L, Mbp late 2013, 13" is this OK?

Have Memory DDR3 instead of DDR3L, Mbp late 2013, 13" is this OK

As long as all of the specifications are the same, there should be no problems. The DDR3L just stands for Low-Voltage. Pop it in and see if it boots up. Worst that can happen is it doesn't boot. Then you just pull it out and put the old RAM back in. It should work, though.

  • MBP late 2013 i7 2.3gHZ restart problems and major input lags

Since I've updated my MBP i7 2.3 Ghz late 2013 to OSX Yosemite (10.10.1) I can't restart the macbook with my promise harddrive and apple cinema display still connected via thunderbolt. When I restart it keeps hanging on the grey screen without the apple logo. When I unplug the thunderbolt and usb cable, hold down the power button and turn it back it everything is fine. Just the restart won't work.. Any ideas?
Further more, I receive major input lags in different programs. For example I use Final Cut Pro (10.1.3) a lot for my job. I use managed media library all stored on the promise harddrive via thunderbolt. The footage I use is raw of the SD card from a Nikon D800 (h2.64 mov), of course i let everything import first before editing. Though I get major input lags (0,5-1,5 sec) when pressing the spacebar to play for example. Ive used this workflow exactly the same on my previous MBP (17" late 2011 I think) without any lags.
    Specs of my MBP:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
Processor 2,3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
    Storage 512 GB SSD
    Hope anyone can help me.

Your original configuration is an HDD. Have you considered replacing it with an SSD. It helps quite a bit.
The current 2013 (and now the 2014) MBPs are excellent machines, and can run Bootcamp via native EFI (Win 8/8.1 - Win7 has some driver challenges), rather than the CSM-BIOS layer and you will get very good performance. I would recommend a 16GB MBP. If you do a lot of external display work, dual GPUs may work better for you.
I use the TB-to-FW for accessing external disks, not sound cards, but the storage works fine. This machine can support 8GB RAM, which may also be worth considering.

  • Mac pro late 2013 Screen flickering

I have late 2013 mac pro 3.5 Ghz 6-core with 32GM memory. I have 2 Thunderbolt  27” monitors with Thunderbolt Hard Drive(external), purchased all brand new. I have apple fan since 2007 changed all 5 computers over to apple and have been very very happy until now.
I have more issues with the screens flickering off and on. Some times this well only happen one or two times day, on other days multiples times. I have taken the Mac to the store 4 times with no resolve.
I have multiple times to support with no luck fixing the issues, we have change the cables to the different bus with no luck, we even change the user with no luck.. I am not sure what else I can no to do get this fixed. Please help.

  • Retina Macbook Pro (late 2013) screen blinking

I recently got a Retina Macbook Pro (late 2013), and the screen has been spontaneously blinking. It's exceptionally distracting, and I've been unable to correlate it to any running program. Has anyone else had this issue?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your MacBook is in warranty, so take it to an Apple Store or reseller to get the MacBook repaired or replaced free of charge. It looks like a hardware issue, so it's better to do this

  • Yosemite - Sleep Wake Failure - MBP Late 2013

    Hi,
I have the following MBP which is currently running Yosemite V10.10.2
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
Ever since I upgraded to Yosemite I get persistent crashes when the machine wakes from sleeping. It's very intermittent, sometimes it'll be fine for days and others it will happen a few times per day. Either way it's very frustrating.
It results in the laptop simply being switched off when I reopen the lid and I have to start again by pressing the power button. Or it has rebooted already and is back at the login prompt. Again, there is no clear pattern when either of those happens though.
The applications I run every day and are usually open when it happens are Chrome and VMWare Fusion 7 running a single VM with Windows8. I also have iPhoto and Eclipse open more often than not.
I've searched the forum and a few people seem to be experiencing similar but not exactly the same symptoms. A search on the reported code doesn't return any results. I've tried a PRAM reset but I get the same behaviour.
Is there any way of diagnosing exactly what's causing this?
    Many thanks,
    Lee

  • Macbook pro 15'' late 2013 screen problem

I was browsing the web when on the very low part of the screen appeared some strange stripes. When I try to make a screen shot, everything seems fine. So I had to take a picture with my phone.
    I have a late 2013 15'' macbook pro (higher-end model).
See the pictures and video below:

    Thanks in advance.

Take the system to an Apple store to be fixed. You have a hardware fault that only Apple can fix by replacing the failed, defective, part and or parts.

  • I have a 15in MBP late 2013 w/ Mavericks installed.  At work, I was hoping to dock the MBP and connect to dual Dell P2414H monitors.

To do so I purchased (2) DisplayPort to HDMI cables and (1) Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.  As for setup, I have one monitor directly connected to the HDMI port on the MBP and the other monitor connect to the Thunderbolt adapter.
I am getting no signal whatsoever on either monitor.  I've ensured that each monitor is set to DisplayPort.  I can understand a signal issue existing between the monitor and the adapter, but I cannot understand the issue with the monitor connected directly to the MBP via the HDMI port.  I checked System Report > Hardware > Thunderbolt and my Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter shows, but port2 contains no connected device (this is where the Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter is plugged).  Does anyone know where I can check the status of the HDMI port?
I'm hoping that the issue isn't as blunt as the monitors not being compatible with the MBP.  I've used my previous MBP with another, older, Dell monitor via a Thunderbolt to VGA adapter with no issue whatsoever.  I've scoured the interwebs with the hopes of finding someone with a similar issue, but I've found nobody.

When the dock is defined as on the bottom, it will appear on the screen of the extended desktop that is lowest.
Move the second monitor where the bottom edges are equal or the Dell is lower and the dock will move there.

  • IMac (Late 2013) screen display won't turn on [RESOLVED].

I just fixed the problem of my iMac screen not starting after calling AppleCare and thought I'll share the solution here as I could find no answer relating to this model of iMac, and the memory reset solution (see below) appears to have been archived by Apple. At the time of writing this, I am running OSX10.10.1 (Yosemite). The advice I was given is as follows.
Turn off your Mac by holding the power button for a few seconds to cut the power.
Removes all cables, including the power cable, USB cables, thunderport cable, everything. Also remove any dongles plugged into the iMac or into any other devices, I think an inactive wireless mouse dongle plugged into my USB keyboard caused the problem for me. Then plug in the keyboard and power cable and power up. If that doesn't work, turn off again and proceed as follows:
With one hand on the keyboard, at the same time hold down Command-Option(Alt)-P-R. With those four keys held down, use the other hand to press power button, keep those four keys held down for maybe 30 seconds. The computer should then start and restart a few times. This process resets NVRAM and/or PRAM (cached memory), I'm not sure which.
If this does not work, repeat but hold down Command+R instead to put your iMac into recovery mode. With any luck, it will now start up the display and run OSX Utilities from which you can restore, reinstall, and a few other things, but before you do, go to the Apple menu (top left) and choose instead to do a normal restart. In my experience, it then started up as normal and now works fine.
If none of the above works for you, then you probably have a hardware problem. If you have AppleCare take it to your nearest Apple Store (with your serial number, found on the box) or they can collect it and it will take about ten days. If you don't have AppleCare, take it to an Apple Store and expect a bill to pay.

    sgmcb,
It looks like you've covered everything you need to do. It could be any number of things, but logic board seems the most likely. Not a cheap repair.
Don't take my word for this. Bring your MBP to your local Apple Store/Genius Bar and have them take a look at it. They won't repair anything, but they might be eliminate a few possibilities.
I just hope you post the results of your visit, in case others have a similar problem in the future!

  • 13inch MBP late 2013 keyboard backlit help

The backlit keyboard light isn't working. It was working fine most of the day and then I took a little break. I came back probably an hour later and I was on the MBP  and noticed some keys weren't illuminated and some keys weren't as bright as the others. So about 5 min later boom, then next thing you know the backlit was gone. It just shut off, the MB still works fine. It's just the backlit light on the keyboard.  I have the 1 year hardware warranty still covered on this till Feb 2015, is the backlit keyboard issue covered under hardware warranty? Thanks!!
I tried all of these below.
    F5 and F6 keys
    Shut down and restart
    SMC reset
    FN F6 and FN F5
Restarted MBP and holding down D key to check for errors and system found no errors and everything was fine.
Is there anything else I can do?

Yeah, I was thinking the same. I hope my 1 year hardware warranty covers it. Thanks
If the MBP is in the warranty period, it certainly should be covered.
    Ciao.

  • Imac i5 (late 2013) screen freezing

I have looked at the other forums and cannot find a solution for my issue. I have had the imac since Oct 2013 and in the last few weeks it has started freezing, mainly whilst using safari, though once the screen freezes it does so for all apps. The only solution seems to be to turn off and on again. Once frozen i can move the mouse but it will not engage with any apps or the finder bar.

Try a SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.
    Reset SMC
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
