Cracked my screen, should i call apple first before getting a new one?

As long as you understand that Apple can rightfully refuse to replace or fix the screen since it is not a covered issue. If you are near an Apple store you might try going in and talking to them. Some people have claimed that Apple store reps replaced their iPhone on the spot when they presented it to them with a broken screen. At the end of the day, the worse answer you will get from calling or going in is that the phone isn't covered and you have to buy a new one or pay for the repair yourself.

    Are you confident (in that case) that you can do the repair yourself? Perhaps you should let a professional select a screen and install it for you.

    If it's under warranty and they determine it's a defect and not caused by abuse, yes. If it's out of warranty or was physically damaged, then no. You'll need to pay for an out of warranty replacement.

    Perhaps, depends how it broke.  If it was due to a manufacturers defect and you are still under warranty, it would be replaced for free.  If you broke it accidentally or by some sort of mis-use, then no, your warranty does not cover that.  If your warranty is over, then you will have to pay for a new one regardless.

    Hmm, well... iTunes trys to activate your iPod using the Apple server to make sure you have bought it legit.
    Two things come into my mind:
    1) Your iTunes can't access the internet.
    2) Apples activation servers are down.
    That's just my cents, maybe anyone else has an idea.

    The phone has a 1 year warranty. If it is defective, or has failed within the warranty period, and it was not physically damaged, hacked, or jailbroken, Apple will replace it under warranty.
    If it is outside of the 1 year warranty, then you can get an out of warranty replacement from Apple for US$149 (for an iPhone 4).
    Where things stand between you and your cellular carrier is not a concern to Apple.

    i got this ipod touch from best buy and it just stopped working, then i returned it to get a refurbished one and it had sound problems, and then i returned that one and the one i have now has a touch screen that doesnt work. it wont press certain letters and it doesnt slide to well. should i call apple for this?

    The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, you will need to update via your computer's iTunes.
    Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad via File > Devices > Back Up
    Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand sidebar, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

    You'll have to get the SIM card first, you can't set it up without a supported SIM.

    Was your cracked screen fixed by an Authorized Apple Service Provider?  I may be wrong, but I didn't think they fixed such things.
    Regardless of who fixed it, and whether it was an authorized repair or not, I recommend bringing it back to the agency that fixed it in the first place.  But note if the repairing agency is not authorized by Apple, you may not want to spend much more money on repairs there for this unit.

    1) you can get a replacement one, though you might have to pay the out of warranty price for the device (normal iPod touch 4th gen 8g = $99)
    2) If you don't have the iPod itself, its is highly unlikely they'll replace it since you won't be handing the original over (since its in your locker)

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer          
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
