  • Apple Macbook Shell

I own an original macbook, and i heard that apple replaces the inside of the shell for free if you have the warranty.
But i have a problem with the outside.
Within the first week I purchased it, I noticed there was a little crack right on the tip of the apple logo, so i took it to the apple store, and the guy told me it was just a scratch and not to worry about it. So I didn't and now it is obvious that it is a crack because it keeps getting bigger every month. I want to know if they replace this.
I take really good care with my apple products, and I barley let anyone use my apple stuff.
Thanks for anyone who can help!
    Other info:
It had a hard drive problem within the 2 month of the purchase and they replaced it because they said it was dead, and i lost all my school notes and reports.
It over heats, burns my lap during class, and then after it finally gets way to hot the fans turn on and stay on for a long time. My friends macbook's don't do that.
I have an apple protection plan for the macbook

    Hi
Regarding the crack, did you document what the tech said and have proof of that?
As for the hard drive and the burning of the lap, take it in. Usually I advise to run tests etc but in your case just bring it back with your Applecare agreement. They may end up just replacing it.
Oh, and backup all your info before you take it back.

  • Crack in Shell

So I open my laptop and find my shell cracked a tiny bit on the bottom right side of the keyboard area; under the click area for the mouse and nearly on the far right edge in a small strip probably 1.5 inches long and maybe 1 or 1.5 centimeters wide. Does Mac replace this stuff?
I searched and found some answers, but I was looking for a more conrete answer. My Mac is a week 29 one, according to the serial number. I bought it in April. I haven't dropped it, stepped on it, nothing has fallen on it, nothing bad has happened. The only thing I do with it is leave it on my desk or put it in my bag for class. It has to be from the little thing on the top of the monitor, that little bump, because there's a crack in my shell the size of that and in the same location. It's taped up and tiny, so if I have to live with it, sobeit, but this is the 2nd time something has hapened to my Macbook, and I'm getting ******. I've been a lifelong Mac user and I've never had anything like this happen. First I have the heat thing making my computer screw up, it comes back, and now the shell wants to crack. I've had enough.
Also, since I've seen some people have had it replaced I believe, how long does it take? I work in television and go to school, and I need it back ASAP. If anyone can help me, I would REALLY appreciate it. I'm a bit desparate here.

Hi, you can't have had it since April -- Maybe August? This crack is becoming fairly common - I have it, too (week 21), and I taped it up just like you. I don't have time to bring it for repairs until May, but I am simply assuming, without stressing, that when I do turn my attention to it, Apple will take care of it. When, last Fall, I needed repairs for RSD and a discoloring case, I was able to arrange to have the repairs done in a matter of hours after the repair center ordered the parts. Why don't you try arranging the same thing?
I think it's obvious that this crack was caused by the magnet hitting the palm rest plastic, so I am not worried about Apple repairing it under warranty. If I have any problems getting them to agree to do it, I'll just keep speaking to someone higher up until they do. I think enough people have this identical crack that the cause is quite clear.

  • Cracked macbook pro screen repair

Accidentally stepped on my 13" macbook pro that was on the floor and it cracked the right side of my screen, how much would it cost to repair/replace?

Depends on whether you want new or used parts for replacement. I doubt repair is an option.  Google Mac screen replacement to get some numbers.

my white macbook is cracking where the lid closes on it. is there some type of warranty for this? it is still under the extended 3 yr warranty...

I agree. Apple should be fixing this issue whether there is a warranty or not. This is a known issue and according to the things I have found online this has been happening since 2006 or longer. That tells me that the are well aware of the issue and have done nothing to prevent the problem in the future. I did not realize this was a known issue until today but I have had cracks in mine for over 6 months. I will be contacting Apple tomorrow to find out what can be done.
First of all, you're right: Apple should be fixing this issue whether there is warranty or not. In fact, they already are. Make an appointment at your local AASP or Genius Bar and you may be pleasantly surprised to find that the damage will be covered. There's no guarantees, but I haven't heard of one being turned down yet.
Second of all, you're wrong: Apple has done plenty to try to prevent the problem, since most companies would rather not hemorrhage money through warranty-extension programs. I think it's fair to say that their efforts to prevent the problem haven't been very successful, but I don't think it's fair to say they haven't tried.

  • How much is it to fix cracked macbook pro retina display in UK?

I stepped on the corner of my macbook pro 13" retina display and the screen has cracked and there is a black square in the corner where the screen is broken. I was wondering from others who have had the same experience how much is it to have the screen fixed in the UK?
    Thanks

I brought it into Apple and had it looked at. The response was that I had three options.
    1. Pay Apple $1,200 for a new case and assembly
    2. Send case to China, lose the Mac for 2 weeks and pay $600 to replace the case
    3. Accept the damage and consider it to be having "added character" to the Macbook.
I chose the latter of the three options and haven't looked back since. I actually have a story to tell with my Mac and a good laugh.
My recommendation however to anyone reading this would be to review if the damage is cosmetic (which mine is) or if it's functional damage. In my case, as I'm a photographer and this was my very first Mac, I wanted it to remain in perfect condition for as long as possible. That being said, I now see the construction of the device to be absolutely amazing. The design and unibody construction protected the Mac from shattering the glass. If this had been any other laptop device I am positive that the damage would have been functional in nature and I would have been spending money to resolve the issue.
The only thing that I ended up getting rid of was my backpack. I now use a breifcase from Saddleback Leather Company. The combination of the two have made me far happier.
    I hope this was helpful.

  • Cracked Macbook Screen

My sister's white Macbook had a crack (about half a centimeter) appear on the screen after she moved. The crack seems to be under the screen but does not affect the content on the screen, except to make the surrounding area slightly lighter. It has started as a small dent with little cracks which have now increased like spider cracks. It looks like something has hit it, but nothing hit it.
I wanted to know exactly what has been broken and if it is a pricy thing to repair.
    Thanks

Displays on a MacBook are fairly expensive. Personally I would at least consider purchasing a new machine. Unfortunately Apple no longer sells the MacBook line to consumers, only to educational institutions, so you will need to look at MacBook Air or MacBook Pro models.
    Best of luck.

  • Cracked macbook display - usable or not?

    Hi guys,
My macbook's got a rather disturbing crack from 'mishandling' - see http://img92.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn0626pz1.jpg
Any ideas on whether anything else will be damaged as a result of this? ie, will anything else start to fail? I don't intend to send this in for repairs due to the incredibly high cost (SGD1020, this machine cost me SGD2112)..
    Thanks!
    White Macbook (2.0GHz), 1.25GB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The crack should not cause you any problems with the MacBook other than the fact you will be forced to look at it unless you hook up a monitor. Unfornatley since these will not be a year old until May there is no hope of finding anything on ebay to use as parts unless someone else destroys theirs also. I would check with your home owners insurance to see if it is cover there. THere are also some third party repair shops that will be cheaper than apple to fix it.

  • Cracked MacBook Display

I have a 13" MacBook with the right side of the LCD cracked on the inside. I am out of warranty and have no AppleCare. How much does Apple charge to replace an LCD Display?

Not sure what Apple would charge but I would try here first:

  • Cracked macbook 15" retina display

I closed my macbook pro 15" today on my power cord and cracked the screen causing everything above the crack to become blacked out. I dont want to but a new computer, and got the computer just over a year ago. When i rub my finger behing the black area, sometimes my background will flicker. The black area cover an inch or two of the left side.

No one from Apple here, so we can't quote prices. The best that you can do is to take the machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP (make an appointment first) and have them diagnose the problem and give you an estimate for repair. I do know that it won't be cheap.

  • Cost of replacing a cracked macbook pro screen?

I sadly knocked my lappy on to a audio sampler and the whole screen wigged out like I'd sat on it or something. Lots of coloured lines and cracks in the middle...
So, how much am I looking at to replace this including labour? I know it's very pricey but what choice do I have.. From what I can see everything works fine elsewise.
    Cheers,
    Jonny

If you are in the U.S. check these places for repair:

Some change what Apple might charge $1000 for to just $400.

Have you tried www.ifixt.com? There's another source, too, but I can't find it in my bookmarks - jwosten posted it a couple of weeks back. I'd give ifixit a try first - if they offer no joy, call back.

  • Cracked MacBook Pro 13"

My house got robbed two weekends ago. Sadly, my old computer was stolen and I had to buy a new MacBook Pro. My dog ended up jumping on top of my new computer, ruining the screen. It is black on the top left corner of the computer. On top of that, the bottom half of the screen shows a mirror image of whatever window is open. I have accepted the fact that I have to replace the screen. However, I do not know the best way to go about replacing it. Should I drive my computer to an apple store, or somehow mail the damaged computer in? I am looking for the fastest option, as I need my computer for work and school purposes! Any information helps! Thanks so much!

Make an appointment with an Apple Genius, and discuss your options.

  • Case Cracks White MacBook (2006)

I have observed cracks on my white macbook (Late 2006 model) case (both insde & out side). Everytime I take an appointment with the Genius, they say that they are so busy to replace the case and they might need at least 3-5 business days. Since I did not have an alternate computer, I have delayed a bit. Now that I recently got a iMac, I would like to turn in my macbook for repair. Not sure if apple has spares to repair the cracked outer shells. Any idea how long and how much it costs to get it fixed ? Or can I return my laptop to get some store credit and buy a new Macbook ??

Only Apple would know that.  Also, ask Apple.  Not going to happen.  You can't return a 6 year old mac and expect to get a store credit.  Since the repair volume of the store seems to be high, get an estimate and leave it there for repair if you find the price of repair to be acceptable.
