Cracking/Popping/Beeping when movement on scr

I've got a Dell XPS Gen 5 with the Audigy that came with it installed. I have been running Vista for over a year with few problems with my sound. Over the last week, I seem have to developed a problem with sound and any 'movement' on the screen. If I'm playing music of any kind, and I have movement on the screen (mouse movement over hyperlinks, youtube videos playing, anything like that), I get the cracking/popping/beeping noise. When the movement stops, the noises go away.
I've upgraded both my video card (nv 8800GTS) to the latest drivers, and upgraded the soundcard to the latest drivers. Still occuring. I have not installed any new software on my machine in the past month.
Has anyone experienced anything like this, and what did they do about it's
Thanks!

The problem also occurs with the sound is outputted over HDMI or DisplayPort. Same pops/cracks... Hugely annoying.

  • Why do I get a cracking/popping sound when recording?

Ever since I updated to OSX Mountain Lion, I am having trouble with Garageband.
The issue is that as soon as the sound starts to build up, then the cracking and popping sounds begin, interrupting the recording. I use two types of microphones, the M-Audio for voice and ONE by Apogee for my guitar, and so far I have had excellent results.I have restarted the application and even changed microphones, but the problem persists.
The problem gets worse when you export the song to iTunes, where all the cracks and interruptions show up, ruining the song.
Does anyone have the same problem? Is there a solution?

  • Newbie: How to close pop-up when movie ends

    Hi.
I'm new to AS3. So please bare with me.
I am creating a touch screen interactive for a museum. I have a AS2 button opening a AS3 swf file popup (no html). This AS3 file shows a movie. How can I get the pop-up to close down when the move has finished without the use of a button. I have a button option too.
The movie is an FLVPlayback obviously linked fro an FLV file. (so only 1 frame is showing)
Any ideas. This is the only thing I can't work out. It's the last thing on the project.
    Thanks for any help.

Sorry if I've not been clear. I want to leave the AS2 swf open as the main page. The buttton in the AS2 open the AS3 swf pop-up. The AS3 pop-up, plays it's movie. At the end of the movie I want the AS3 to close automatically. then on screen will be the AS2 file, in full screen which was always open from before.
It's the AS3 i need to close itself after it's movie has been played. So is some script I need help with which will close the AS3 swf file  (in a pop up) after it has finished. eg I want the AS3 to close itself down. Nothing to do with the AS2 window which is always open (behind)

  • Popping sound when running WMP in full scr

Basically, I installed the card with a new computer. The specs are:
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    Mother Asus AV8
Memory 2x52 Dual Channel Corsair Xms
80 Gb Matrox 7200 RPM PATA
    Geforce4 6600 GT AGP
    X-fi ExtremeMusic
TV / Radio AVermedia TV Phone (old TV card)
    Sony DVD player
    Ext. DVD/RW
While playing any game, you might ear it from time to time. Not really noticeable.
While listening to music in WINAMP or WMP, no problem at all.
However, if I use WMP in Full screen, you can ear it pretty well.
Any solutions beside reinstalling or updating drivers?
Could it be that when changing into full screen, the video card requires more power, and introduce some noise in the system that produce the popping sound in the sound card? (I have a 430Watts power supply)
    Thanks
    Max

    You can check if
    - decreasing the hardware acceleration (2 D graphics),
    - decreasing the PCI latency for the grapgics (28),
    - enabling the AGP fast write
    - increasing the AGP aperture size into size of your geforce's onboard memory,
    - lowering graphics resolution to 24-bit
    - increasing the PCI Latency for sound card (64 or 28),
    - (if the popping comes when you move the mouse then) decreasing the mouse sampling rate,
    - changing performance optimization for applications (instead of background services) or vice versa if already set for applications
    - using ASIO (plugin needed) with winamp
makes any difference with winamp popping issues.

    == This happened ==
    A few times a week
== Not sure when it statrted

    Hi.
When this happens, please press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and see how much RAM and CPU Firefox is using. If they're sky high, then... Well, that kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
    #run Firefox in safe-mode to disable all extensions and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
    #update all extensions and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#disable all extensions and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
    #enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic extension, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all your extensions (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all;
#you're done! You've fixed your problems with problematic add-ons.
Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
    #do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
    #disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix you issues with Firefox, proceed;
    #check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. Except make sure you've followed my instructions correctly.

  • I am unable to get the windows TIP for Tablet PCs to auto pop up when clicking with a stylus or my finger. What add-on/setting will fix this?

I have a lenovo Thinkpad Convertible tablet. In the past I've been able to get it were the Windows TIP pops up when I click on a text input field. This function no longer works, I have a new computer, and whatever change I'd done to my old computer is not readily apparent. Any help in getting text input fields to pop up the TIP automatically would be great. Until then, in tablet mode, I have to use my computer with IE or keep the TIP at the taskbar to click on, but that's a lot of movement and rather annoying.

Actually the setting is called: '''intl.enable_tsf_support'''
Note the underscore instead of the dot.
I had to enable this settings for TIP to work on my HP EliteBook 2740p after installing the driver from Wacom's website.
When I was using the Wacom driver supplied from Windows Update however the TIP worked even fine without this setting.
I've documented the issue and solution here at my blog for other Tablet PC users who encounter this problem: [http://www.unlogic.se/blogs/myblog/post/firefox-tip Firefox and the Tablet PC Input Panel (TIP)]

  • Bad clicking popping sound when macbook plugged into external speakers

I have a black MacBook Core Duo, a white Macbook Core 2 Duo, and a Macbook Pro Core Duo that are suddenly ALL exhibiting horrible behavior when plugged into external speakers using the 1/8th inch headphone output converted to RCA to connect to the speakers.
I have always known that sometime in the last year or 2, one of the OS updates introduced a popping noise when the audio system has been idle and then suddenly fires a sound again after being quiet for a while.
But now all 3 of these machines, all running 10.6.7 with all current available software updates are exhibiting a clicking / popping /crackling sound almost CONSTANTLY when hooked up to the same set of speakers I've had for years. I tested with other speakers just to make sure the noise is still there.
Every time someone goes on or offline in my ichat buddy list, the crackling noise that accompanies the typical buddy available/unavailable sound is extremely irritating.
Every time I hit the volume up or down button I hear the awful noise alone with the volume feedback sound. If I keep hitting volume up or down FAST repeatedly, the sound goes away. But the moment I stop doing anything for even 1-2 seconds, and then touch the volume up/down buttons again, the cracking sound returns.
I have no idea what software update introduced this problem or what the heck is going on. I have booted these machines from external drives with a fresh install of 10.6.7. I've tried 10.5.8. Nothing works.
It's like some kind of firmware has permanently screwed up the 1/8th inch output on all of these machines when hooked up to external speakers. And these are all completely different model laptops
I do not hear the noise through these laptops' internal speakers, or if I plug headphones directly into their headphone jacks.
I have had to install an M-Audio USB Micro onto my main laptop to use it's 1/8th inch stereo out to connect to my speakers in order to eliminate this horrible noise. But this should NOT be necessary and I am not satisfied with this fix as a permanent solution.
I'm astonished to find this problem on ALL THREE of these different laptops suddenly.
The Anti Pop program did not alleviate the problem. Please help. Apple please issue software fixes to get rid of these problems once and for all.

  • What does error -2125 mean when movie exporting fails?

I have a problem exporting a 4-hour movie (720p DV video) that has been acquired and exported by EyeTV 2.3.2 as an iMovie 9 project and assembled in said project.  Some 10-14 hours later after starting a movie export in iMovie for Apple (HD) TV resolution, iMovie displays the dialogue: "Unable to prepare project for publishing—the project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-2125)".
What is causing this error and how can I resolve it?  The project is about 87 GB large as exported by EyeTV and I have about 194 GB free space on my work volume (which is not the system startup volume) that holds the iMovie project.
Being such a generic error, it is apparently a problem that isn't expected or popular.  Any clues about this error would be muchly appreciated.  I'll work on it some more, but I'm getting nowhere fast!
I'll write some more tech details about the system experiencing the problem a little later, but off the top of my head, it's iMovie 9.0.4 on a MacBook Pro (Core Duo) w/ 2 GB of memory and Mac OS X 10.6.7. Running Activity Monitor shows nothing abnormal to disks or CPU usage during the export, and there is no resource exhaustion for the entire time exporting is in progress.
    Thanks!

    Hi
There are two kinds of sizes - one must keep in mind
    • Gbs - when regarding to store video material on hard disks - then how hd is formatted as UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - Doesn't work due to the 4Gb limit - HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended (HFS)
    • DURATION - Movie time + MENU time - an d this is Vital in regard to iDVD - as Gbs Mbs etc. doesn't matter at all. I've 500Mb movies that do not fit and 50Gbs that fit nicely.
Culprit here is most often the menu that can hide duration in many places one of them picture buttons - as they get same time/duration as movie dropped into them even if only one frame is showed and no animation. Other things is Menu audio that also can consume large Duration times.
So - as I wrote in another answer.
OK Error code - 2125 usually indicates that the movie is to large (in TIME - Duration).
It use to pop up when going to iDVD !
iDVD - DO NOT CARE ABOUT Gbs at all. I got movies on 500Mb that do not fit and 50Gb that fits nicely.
iDVD - ONLY CARES ABOUT - Duration. Duration is Movie time + MENU TIME. Choise of
menu and animation of this can take lost of "DURATION" 15 minutes or even more.
Choise of encoding method and use of SL or DL DVDs determine the DVD limit.
    iDVD 08 & 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
DL DVDs can store about double of these times.
ALTERNATIVE - The Error Code can indicate that free space on Start-up (BOOT) hard disk is
    less than 25Gb (my minimum)
So - You have added together all things except use of strange file formats to make this as hard as possibly
    • 4 hours of material - DL-DVD is about 3:45 with as simple menu possibly - no photos, no audio or no animation - STILL TO MUCH
    • I have about 194 GB free space on my work volume (which is not the system startup volume) that holds the iMovie project. - YES BUT - Neither iDVD or Mac OS can use this space for it's temp. files - Space has to be on the Start-up hard disk - about 25Gb free space when using SD-video and about 4-5 times more when using HD-video. This can not be addressed to other hard disks.
    • iMovie 9.0.4 - Well in regard to quality this is not good. As iDVD is SD interlaced video. So using iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut will result in much better result as they don't discard every second line on Export to iDVD.
    • In iMovie'09 - Don't Share to iDVD - BUT - Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD) - helps a bit

  • For some reason, even though I have advanced features checked, the menu with green screen and all those isn't popping up when I drag the video on top of another one.

For some reason, even though I have advanced features checked, the menu with green screen and all those isn't popping up when I drag the video on top of another one. Help?

    Hi
I would trash - iMovie pref file - and re-try - sounds like this got faulty.
    • Delete iMovie pref. file. iMovie pref. file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD) / Users / "Your account" / Library / Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter:
chflags nohidden ~/Library (exactly like this - space included)
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

Following error message 'The item “iPhoto Library” can’t be moved because “10.0.1.3” can’t be modified' pops up, when I'm trying to copy my iPhoto library to my  Synology NAS. Any thoughts what I need to do in order to succeed?

Would you rather recomment me to change to another programme like to iphoto to store and work with my photos?
I would use the NAS for documents and other data that do not need a library with database files inside. For iPhoto a small portable drive that you can plug in directly would be perfect; you can get one for 79$ http://mac-portable-hard-drive-review.toptenreviews.com/western-digital-review.h tml
Before you try to copy your iPhoto library anywhere, make sure it does not have any inconsistencies, that could prevent copying. Run a rebuild, using the First Aid tools. See this post by Old Toad on how to do it: Re: iPhoto version 8.1.2
The item “iPhoto Library” can’t be moved because “10.0.1.3”
That error message is very typical for copying between incompatible file systems. I get this error message usually when I try to move iPhoto libraries or Aperture libraries to drives with MS Dos (FAT) or unix formatting, or when some of the image files inside the library contain ethnic characters (Umlaute), have very long file names, or the filenames contain other special characters.
Do you have any other large data sets that you could try to move to your NAS instead of your iPhoto library?  Movies, Music? Then move these first to have enough working space, when you try to move the iPhoto library. If you are running out of space, it will be difficult for the OS to move large amounts of data at once. That will need working space.

I finally got my friend to try Logic and he loves it, but he complains about the window that pops up when you start recording audio. Its not a problem for me but he swears it annoys him so I told him I would find out if it can be removed. So does anyone know if that window can be disabled?

I don't think you can remove it. I agree, that would be a nice option to have.
I think though, that if he were to move it over to a corner of the screen, Logic will remember this placement, and whenever he goes into record, it should open up where he left it, hopefully out of the way enough not to bother him so much...

  • Set doc to only popup when move mouse WAY below edge of screen?

Has someone ever come up with a way to manage the Dock?
Ideally, I'd like to set it so that it NEVER pops up unless I move my mouse WAY below the edge of the screen.
Right now, it always gets in the way of using my apps.
Or, just a specific corner to set it off?
Just some way to stop it from popping up when I'm trying to work with a Pro app, where I'm often at the edges of the screen.

Leopard is not Windows, fortunately. If you want Leopard to be more like Windows, then in the end why not use Windows?
Comparisons between different OSs, to me, is usually meaningless. I use Vista and XP on PCs as well as Leopard and Tiger and Windows on my Macs.
    I don't bother with comparisons.
If you want a new feature in Leopard, you can suggest it to Apple here:
    https://bugreport.apple.com/
You can also search the net for various hacks to do exactly what you want to do or you can get creative and create your own hack.
I'd be very happy to kill off the doc - as it only works for so many programs before becoming cumbersome, and seems just a feature to amaze Mac neophytes with a cool effect, until they start getting annoyed with it.
As a non-neophyte who has been using computers for a very long time, including Unix mainframes, I don't see the dock as a "cool effect" and I do not find it annoying.
If you spent more time in a terminal, perhaps you would see the difference between Leopard and Windows and find some really "cool" stuff down under the hood, where we non-neophytes usually hang out.
