Crackling and hissing noises in background of podcast audio

I've just recorded the audio for a podcast (two-person interview), and as I've listened back I've found an annoying crackling noise in the background at a few points. Any ideas about how to remove (or at least minimise) it? Also, at some points there is a kind of hissing noise in the background (almost like the distant sound of crickets!) - any tips on minimising or removing that?

Thanks for the reminder Richard and yes, I had done that via the "common" folder and cleaned out all the cache in the various folders. The result was negative, still had the issue.
So, I decided to move all audio (about 16 mins) on track 1 down to track 2, leaving track 1 completely empty of audio. Then I muted track 1.
The issue was happening at around 4:20secs into the audio. Interestingly, when testing Pr crashed when the playhead reached 4:20secs, right at the spot that I was getting the old "deleted" audio in the background with a lot of crackle. I restarted my Mac completely and repeated the process of moving all audio to track 2 etc etc... and once again Pr crashed at 4:20secs.
What to do?
I copied the piece of audio giving me issues from track 2 and pasted it into track 1. I first pasted it away from the problem area (4:20secs) and there was no "old deleted audio in the background with a lot of crackle" to be heard. :-) So I moved this piece of audio and placed it right above the 4:20secs problem area and reduced the audio volume to -infinity. I also muted track 1 again.
Then I played the entire video... and, Pr didn't crash and the "old deleted audio in the background with a lot of crackle" was gone. Gone kinda, because this is a work around and the issue is still there but suppressed for now. I have no idea why it happened and a more technical solution is totally welcome.
What do you think about the above Richard? Hope it made sense? Felt like it took 25 years to sort this out...

  • Crackling and pulsating noise in external USB speakers

How to eliminate crackling and pulsating noise in external USB speakers?

i need to access the Roland's knobs while sitting at the Mac (am using them as monitors in recording etc), so there really isn't a good place to get them further away. By interface, do you mean the PreMobile? that's an interesting idea. I've now tried that (via the line out, the rolands have a single 3.5mm cable, no RCAs); it got rid of the static noise, but the still a loud hum, and the PreMobile apparently doesn't monitor ordinary system sound output (like iTunes). But this experiment does point to the iMac itself being the source of the static noise.
The only AC-powered periphs in the loop are a couple hard drives and a printer (and a USB-powered Wacom tablet; the PreMobile is USB-powered as well).
I've got the speakers plugged into same grounded strip as the mac and the peripherals, trying to minimize ground loop, but it doesn't help.
Someone suggested a ground loop isolator gadget... anyone had success with those?

  • Pops, Clicks and Hisses : Updated to 10.5.7 (audio example)

    I updated to 10.5.7 and now when I open a GB file I hear this : http://bit.ly/9Wigq
As you can hear in the example, it appears even when there is no audio present. It's different every time, and affects recordings as well as exports.
    Here's my set-up
MacBook Pro : Updated to 10.5.7, 3 gigs of RAM.
M-Audio Fast Track Pro : Updated drivers
    Wacom Cintiq 12WX
I haven't tried without the Wacom attached, although I can't see why that would affect audio.
    Any thoughts gang?

Turne dout it was T-RackS causing the issue.

  • Crackling and "spikes" on CK 7-W

I had a CK7W Bluetooth fitted to my Audi A4 convertable yesterday by Audi dealer. Works with my Nokia 6230i (and also my wife's Motorola v525). Not using a cradle and connectivity is fine. Problem is that when I turn up the volume using the button ring so that I can hear caller at motorway speeds, I get loud crackling and spiking noises when the caller speaks. Strange thing is that if I am on a call and start the engine, the volume rises automatically without spikes and then goes back to "quiet or spikey" mode as described. Unit is wired to radio/CD/Nav unit for muting and is wired to front right speaker. Microphone is fitted in overhead console at top of windscreen. Not expecting much with the roof down but would like to avoid intereference like this. Also I have noticed that when Bluetooth is connected the phone automatically sets its own volume to half way even though I usually have it on max.
Dealer is puzzled. So am I.

I also have a CK 7-W fitted to an Audi S4 and have real problems with crackles and volume. I first thought that it was connections as I noticed it would cut out as I went over bumps in the road whilst I was on the phone, or when I turned the volume control ... so I had the fitters check the connections on the back of the sound system.
My problem is that it crackles most of the time the volume **bleep** seemed to cutout the volume if I turned it, but now the volume has dropped to "very quiet" and I can hardly hear the caller. The volume **bleep** now has no effect. May as well not have the kit there! I had the hard wired THBBury car kit fitted by Chameleon on my previous cars. It's a bit chunkier than the CK and you have to wait a few months for the dedicated holder each time a new phone model comes out, but it worked a dream.

  • Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro - Hissing noise and Skype/Viber call problems

    Hi,
Does anyone have the hissing noise (similar to that of the below Youtube url 12- 22 secs) with recorded videos.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=F0rKuaTgZgQ#t=12
    Sample shot : http://youtu.be/8F5M3GZkfdk
And are you able to use apps like Viber, Skype without issues... ?
    On Skype...
    a) There is a background noise (like audio fed to others mic) while chatting in normal mode and this amplifies much when on speaker mode and after few secs it becomes unusable.
    b) Also there is a issue with the voice while chatting in speaker mode... it resounds, gets repetitive and amplifies, and makes it usable.
    On Viber...
    a) When I answer the call it shows connected... but the callers phone shows still ringing, as a result can't hear anything.
    b) When I make a call, and the other person answers it... So again I cant hear anything.
    TRIED

    Is my unit defective?
Is it problem with hardware or software?

with the last update i have the same issues with voip calls on several apps (viber, facebook, hangouts) like echo, hissing and all loud noises around me seem to be amplified . I don't understand why lenovo does not fix these problems nor reply to any of the posts about this problem. i am beggining to feel like all flagships from lenovo are designed this way, i had k910 and now i have k920 with absolutely the same issue.....what is wrong with lenovo ?

    George,
Try uninstalling all your Norton applications and follow by cleansweep your sound card software/driver. The steps to cleansweep your sound card can be found with this Knowledgebase article SID72. After you have done both, install the sound card driver/application first using the installation CD. Ensure that the sound card is function fine. After which, install your Norton software.

  • Anyone having crackle or sizzle noise from the iPhone 4S ear speaker?

Anyone else getting a hissing or crackling noise during phone calls?  It happens in doors, outdoors, and is independent of hand position.  Sounds like electrical noise.  This is my second brand new 4S to do it.
Any solutions besides hard and soft resets or restores?  Tried that already.

I have chat with apple support chat details below there no solutions from apple for crackling noise
TaneyThanks for contacting AppleCare chat support. My name is Taney. Please give me a moment to look over your information.
    Me:hi
Me:am using iPhone 4s receiver crackling noise issue
    TaneyHello there!
    Me:yes
TaneyUh oh! That's never a fun issue to experience and I'm glad to help you in any way that I possibly can, right here over chat, you're in the right place.
Me:i have replaced more then 4 times
    Me:same problem remains
Me:i asking what i have to do
Me:many of apple users experienced same issue and they register complaint in apple site
    Me:but no solutions
    Me:hello there ?
TaneySo your receiver crackles and you've replaced this iPhone more than 4 times for that same issue, is that what you're meaning? Just wanting to make sure.
    Me:yes
TaneyI appreciate your time with me while I research our best next step to take from here. That almost sounds like maybe it's not the hardware or maybe you should get a replacement SIM card. Have you asked your carrier or replaced the SIM card for this issue?
Me:i have replaced 5 different sim cards and different networks but noise coming
    TaneyDifferent networks like different carriers?
    Me:yes
Taneyin that case it sounds like it's probably related to your region or possibly whoever you are contacting.
TaneyI don't see any previous cases with us here for this iPhone, I wonder if I have the proper device here, unless you're referring to replacing them on your own and not through Apple.
Me:uh oh did you check your apple site many of apple uses post this same issue
Me:uh oh did you check your apple site many of apple users post this same issue
TaneyI don't doubt you're experiencing the issue at all, I totally believe you.
TaneyYou can submit product feedback about this at apple.com/feedback. We have a team here at Apple, who's entire job is dedicated to reviewing this feedback, and escalating it to the proper outlets (such as the engineers for iTunes, iPhone, iPad, etc.), so you can rest assured that your voice will be heard! The more feedback we receive about product features, the more likely we are to implement them!
TaneyIt sounds like you've tried so many things, I'm not sure what might be a different resolution for you and this crackling issue. Different phones, carriers, SIM cards, and probably all amounts of troubleshooting. Would you want to try some things here with me now?
Me:i have already submitted my feedback

Me:i have tried all these checking
Me:after this much of issue sill am using iPhone because i loved it
Me:but this silly issue irritating me when on voice call
TaneyThank you. Please allow me just a moment to contact some additional support for us and we may bring them into our chat for some insight.
Taneyit's only on cellular calls or do you experience the issue with anything else? If you toggle to speakerphone, does it continue with the call or become clear?
    Me:issue only in ear receiver
Me:there is no issue in headphone or speaker phone
TaneySo if you switch to speaker during a call, there is no crackling noise? That sounds strange. That would normally point to a hardware concern, but that wouldn't make sense considering you've tried several different iPhones and all of the other troubleshooting.
TaneyNot sure, we'll see what our consultant suggests we do from here. Thanks for being so awesomely patient.
TaneyWhat would you like for us to do, as the best goal that you had in mind?
Me:i think this very simple issue for apple, Please fix all your feature product
TaneyIt doesn't sound like the devices are likely to be the reason for what you're experiencing. I wish there was an easier answer but I am reviewing your case with another advisor right now and we'll see what additional information we can find for you.
TaneyIt could even be related to the iPhone 4s.
    TaneyUpgrading could be an alternative.
    Me:that i dont know
Me:i didnt check any other phone
    Me:upgrading means ?
TaneyPerhaps the technologies in your region/s are better suited for a newer iPhone model. I don't want to make promises but I would suggest visiting a carrier location and maybe trying a 5 or above and see if you still experience the issue.
TaneyThey can usually give you some kind of trade or other options for your 4s to get value towards upgrading.
    Me:okay but check this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3414732?tstart=0
    Me:also this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3414732?start=60&tstart=0
Me:Please give solution for this issue otherwise you loose customers
    Me:iPhone 5 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5972811
TaneyI do see those threads. I don't want you to keep experiencing the crackling noise issue anymore. I wouldn't like that on my calls either.

TaneyCan I have you speak with my friend, Joseph?
TaneyI'll bring him over whenever you're ready.
    Me:am from india
    Me:am ready
TaneyThank you.JosephThanks for contacting AppleCare chat support. My name is Joseph. Please give me a moment to look over your information.
    JosephHi there Ponsubbiah!
    Me:yes
JosephI understand that you’re having a lot of trouble with your iPhone 4S, even after multiple service replacements there is still trouble with the receiver, a crackling noise that has not been solved yet. Is that correct?
    Me:yes you are correct
JosephThat is absolutely terrible to hear, especially after so many service attempts at this, this really is an unfortunate issue.
JosephI am thinking an upgrade could be possible for this, something to consider. Have you had an opportunity to test with newer iPhone models?
Me:last week also i went to apple store for this issue but they said we cannot do any more said sorry simply
JosephThey cannot do anymore service replacements?
Me:are you sure is upgrade is only solutions but what you will say for these posts Me:iPhone
    Me:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5972811
JosephIn your experience with the iPhone 4S so far, I think trying a newer model could work better for you, not to say it is the only solution but replacement for you so far has not been successful.
    Me:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6586599
    JosephHaving a look now
JosephHave you had a chance to use a new model?
Me:am sorry just a month before i have paid for replacement
JosephYou paid for the last replacement? Sorry, I don’t know the full details for your service.
    Me:yes
    Me:because warranty period is over
JosephMakes sense, this isn’t good though, not for you.
JosephTrying to think about what we could do, have you spoke with our support there in India, by phone?
Me:yes but no use of it
Me:so apple wont fix this issue right?
Me:you people check often apple support communities
JosephIt’s difficult to fix an issue like this, it doesn’t seem to affect all devices, I’ve never seen it affect so many devices in a row.
JosephYes, it is something we monitor closely to keep log of specific problems.
Me:if you do this issue will not repeat your new product
JosephIt isn’t something i’ve experienced personally with my own devices, but i’m trying to understand it. Is it only with certain contacts?
Me:i never expect this from apple, dont know what to say
    Me:no for all
JosephCan you describe it for me?
Me:when i am talking with someone in ear speaker stat crackling noise in background if we are in very silent place the noise we can hear clearly
JosephBoth of you can hear it?
Me:no, in my phone only. the same sim card i have used in NOKIA mobile but there no noise in this
JosephDo you use a case on your iPhone's?
    Me:yes
    Me:okay. any suggestions or solutions?
JosephHonestly, I think at this point, using a different model. One of our newer ones to see if your experience improves would be best.
JosephIt sounds like something is interfering with your conversations, a crackling noise like that isn’t normal at all. Testing without a case could help.
Me:I dont think so again go for apple. If i face same issue in new one then i loose my money. anyway thank you for your reply.
JosephAppreciate you letting us know about the problem, it definitely helps us keep track of them, even for previous models.
JosephIf you have time later please reach out to us by phone and we can see about more options in this.
    Me:Thank you Jo. Bye.

  • Ipod touch 5 sound crackles and bad quality - how do I fix it?

When I plug my 5th gen iPod touch into speakers or headphones the sound quality is awful and it is crackles and there is lots of "noise". There must be something wrong with How can I fix this?

    Do headphones sound OK?
Assuming the speaker sound OK when connected to another device:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem?.

noise. Is it problem of this model or my headset is defect?

Hey. Really sorry for late answer. i got same model (but i7 , r7 m265 )
For the fan noise ; check out gpu and cpu temperatures . clean the fan dust with power manager program. and update drivers.
for the battery , %1 wear is nothing . only affects 1-2 mins . battery has internal smbus battery fuel gauge and it automatically calibrates battery full charge capacity. but you can manual calibrate fcc with power manager. we are very lucky because on some hp ,samsung etc laptops , battery comes with %10 wearage (like my old laptop).
you post this message 6 months ago. if your battery wear is >%15 now , send battery to service. they will replace a new battery. if battery wear <%10 , your battery is normal

  • Hissing noise in monitors when plugging external lcd

    Hi,
this is a bit off topic, but it's logic related in a way ..
When using an external monitor (lcd), as soon as the metal from the monitor plug touches my macbook pro dvi jack, my (audio) monitors produces a hissing noise.
The power bar i'm using is plugged in a wall outlet that has no ground. I assumed the bad grounding was the problem, but making a connection with a metal wire between my macbook and a copper pipe didn't help. I think if the grounding was the reason of the hissing, that should have solved, althought temporarly, my problem...
does that ring a bell to anyone ?
    thanks in advance..

    Hi jukea and welcome!
Wow, thats a tough one. First, make sure you don't have any audio cables laying on top of your power supplies/AC power in general. Check all audio cables in-line. Some audio monitors may not have adequate RF shielding, so move your monitors away from the display if you can. If this is a permanent setup and the power can not be helped, I would get and ISO box to loop through before I connected my audio monitors.
    Maybe:

You would need 2 of those, for stereo inputs.

    Hello, thanks for the responses!
x4...: Haven't tried using another account; my computer has only one registered currently (it's spanking new)
I did try logging into safe mode - while I received no indication that it was on safe mode, all sound functions appeared to be terminated when I logged on after long-pressing Shift. Panicked in a small way there, ha ha.
Bart..: Quitting email clients (mail, gmail, outlook on web) didn't help
And nope - no one else logged into computer.
All this said, the sound has stopped mysteriously right now. There's a good chance it'll start again though (it's done this before, with no connection to newly opened programmes or anything)
    Thanks, all!
