Crackling audio after 10.8.5 update

Hi,
I have a 2013 Macbook Air 11" which ran smoothly up until I updated to 10.8.5.
Now all audio regardless whether it be threw headphones or through the MBA speakers crackles. And I mean all audio, from youtube, spotify and my mp3's.
I haven't been able to find any solutions online I was hoping others knew a possible fix.
Thanks a lot

I was actually able to solve it. It turned out to be the flash player that was packaged with Google Chrome that was defective.
This helped me https://discussions.apple.com/message/23081446#23081446
I dont know if it will work for you but its worth a shot

  • No sound / audio after 10.8.5 update

I just updated updated my iMac's  OSX to 10.8.5 from the app store, it asked for a restart to complete the update, i clicked restart and it said it there was a error so the update wawsnt complete. After restart, there is no sound. I went to the system preferences, and there's no audio device. I downloaded the combo update from the apple site and it also failed, this is what i got after trying 4 times.
Same thing happened with my 10.8.3 update, since then, my wifi hasnt been working, i'm stuck with the cable now and i cant afford to backup everything and have a fresh OSX installation. Please help me with my sound and wifi, i really need the sound badly, i make music, Pleeease help

You really need to have at least 2 backups as you are risking losing all your data.
First check to see what version of 10.8 you have installed.  menu/About this Mac.
You can reinstall the OS from the Recovery Volume and it shouldn't affect your data files. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart) or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume. Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions. Then reinstall the OS.

  • No audio after 10.5.8 update

Since I updated to 10.5.8 I started to have sound issues. Reboot does not always work to restore sound. I had to clear audio cache with Onyx a couple of times, but the audio stopped working each time after few hours. Last thing I did with re-installing 10.5.8 with the combo update, repair authorizations and reboot. Now, I still lose sound, apparently during sleep, but it comes back if I reboot.
Any permanent fix will be greatly appriciated...

Resetting the PRAM was the first thing I tried, and it didn't work.
Now, the sound is gone again. Rebooting doesn't change anything. Clearing caches doesn't do anything anymore (at a certain point the sound devices were detected again but still not working).
I tried to reset the PRAM again, without success (no sound at all during the PRAM reset, just grey screen, black screen, grey screen, black screen, etc.).
    No more idea... Suggestion anyone?

  • Crackling audio after appying letterbox effect

After letterboxing my clips, audio has crackles in it (irregular small clicks, roughly 3 per second). Other than this problem, the audio is of normal volume and quality.
I've verified that the original clips did not have this problem.
This is my first experience with iMovie. This wouldn't be nearly as frustrating if effects rendering on a 1.5 hour movie weren't an overnight job, but well... it is.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   iMovie 5.0.2 (111)

Lame, my first foray into Mac (in years), and I find a bug right off the bat.
Anyway, I've still got the original clips, so no need to re-import. I'll try the audio extraction.
    Thanks for the tip.

  • Crackling audio after a few minutes

Hi, I have a problem with audio playback using iTunes on my Thinkpad T40 running WinXP Pro. When I play back music files in iTunes, after a few minutes the audio gets kind of staticky / crackly / jittery. If I pause the audio then then play again, the problem goes away for a few minutes and then comes back. The longer the computer is on, the sooner the problem crops up. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
    Thanks!
    Thinkpad T40   Windows XP Pro

Goto control panel>quicktime>audio tab and check "Safemode" hit OK and reboot for the setting to take.
Also goto the PC makers site and look for updates for your model, like sound card/driver updates and things like BIOs and stuff

  • Pavilion no audio after windows and HP updates

A good Memorial Day to all.
I have an HP Pavilion G7.  Four days ago Windows pushed out an update and audio worked afterward.  Next day (three days ago), HP had an "important" update that kept popping up so my wife downloaded that update and installed.  Since then, no audio from the PC or working on my external speaker.
I did a system restore rolling back one week  - no change.
I reinstalled the HP audio driver - no change.
No audio now, totally DOA.  BTW, the slider bars do show audio being processed but not heard.
I'm guessing the Windows update or the HP update (whatever they were) directly caused this.
    Any help appreciated.
    Noiseless in St Pete...

I would check the Windows updates and HP updates.
You can see when tMicrosoft Windows updates were installed by accessing Programs and Features and then selecting view installed features.   Uninstall them one at a time.
You can check on the HP updates by accessing the log that is in the HP Support Assistant to see what was installed.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • No Audio after latest Flash Player Update

My System is windows 7 Home premium 32bit. After i downloaded the latest update I do no longer have sound in internet explorer 9 AND google chrome.
wmp still works.Downloaded all the latest drivers, I have tried everything that was suggested here:
    http://www.codecguide.com/fix_for_flash_sound_problems.htm
    also no inflicting tools.
At the directory System32/macromed/flash there is:
    the map FlashplayerTrust
    Flash10q.ocx
    Flash10r.ocx
    FlashInstall.log
    FlashUtil10q_ActiveX.dll and .exe
    FlashUtil10r_ActiveX.dll and .exe
I guess there's something wrong with the registers but I really tried everything that is suggested in relation to that matter.

    C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
    Flash10r.ocx
    FlashInstall.log
    FlashUtil10r_ActiveX.dll and .exe
    Still no sound
I've also noticed that in Sound mixer, the option to control the sound of internetaplications is gone. So maybe it's just that simple that it's on mute but i can Neither see nor change this setting.
In my search to fix this I've seen a lot of posts from people with similar problems but they never got a solution.

  • ThinkPad E545 - After Win 8.1 update: Can't start Dolby Audio ...

I have just updated my ThinkPad E545 to Windows 8.1 today.  Every time after computer boots up, I get an Error message starting like "Dolby Advanced Audio - Can't start Dolby Audio. If this problem will stay restart the computer. I have Czech Wins that's why it should be little bit different. After restart the computer the note is there again. I found discussion where are helps like Uninstall Conexant, restart and then Install again. But the problem is still there. Maybe I do some mistake. Can anyone help me?

    hi Sperl19,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Your Dolby may not be synced with the Audio driver after the update,
Since Audio driver may had been updated by the 8.1 but not the Dolby app.
    Here's what to do:
    Open Device Manager
Uninstall the Audio Device Under Audio inputs and outputs
Then proceed to Control Panel / Programs / Uninstall a Program
                         Uninstall all Dolby Related programs
                                 Restart if Prompted
    Now install this software driver
     Conexant Audio Driver
Now open Drive C: on the upper right hand side of the screen you will find a Search pane
Type in "aa" and hit search
You should find 1 of the result as dolby or if not post a screen shot of the results here
If ever you found it install that and it should bring your dolby back
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  • MacBook OSX 10.6.5 No audio after update

Hello, My aluminum 13" MacBook has been fine up until a few weeks ago. The internal speakers do not work after Mac OSX 10.6.5 boots up. I hear the 'gong' on initial start up... but no audio after OSX boots. I have tried plugging in headphones, using a toothpick- nothing works. The sound preferences show 'Internal Speakers' and Built in.
Another interesting fact is iTunes reports "an unknown error occurred -200". Very helpful message.
If I boot into Windows Vista using BootCamp.. audio works just fine. So, the speakers and audio hardware are not malfunctioning. It's clearly an OSX configuration problem.
Any ideas on what I can do to get my audio back? The only thing that has changed was I let Apple Updater install a few patches.

If you have not already done so, run Disk Utility's "Verify Disk" & "Repair Permissions" routines on your startup drive (in that order). If the verify disk step finds any problems, you must correct them before continuing.
Try creating a new, temporary user account. Restart your Mac, logging into that account only. If the speakers now work then something associated with your normal user account is the problem, such as a login item or bad preference file.
If the speakers still don't work with this account, you can delete it. Then try starting up in Safe Mode. If the speakers now work something that Safe Mode disables is the culprit, such as a third party or non-essential extension, an add-on system modifier, startup item, etc.
If none of the above help, try downloading & installing the 10.5.6 combo update. If that doesn't help then you may need to reinstall the OS & update it to the current version.

Perhaps you can find some help here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … otplugging (or in one of the many threads about xorg 1.5 breaking input devices)

  • No System Sound/Audio after updating to 10.6.2

After doing a system update to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 I've lost all system sound excluding—strangely—iChat, which still does notification pings. I don't even get the familiar "click-clack" sound when changing the volume from my keyboard.
The speakers are fine, as I can hear the iChat pings and the start-up tone. Just baffled as to what the problem could be. Any suggestions would be incredibly helpful.
Other information: I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on a 24" iMac circa late 2007/early 2008.

I too am having this problem unless I resort to plugging in my external speakers which I don't want to use when I am not at home. I am not being given the option to switch to internal speakers oddly, please help!!!!!!!!
Another Problem: Time Machine: I am unable to restore anything now. 10.6.2 has a bug alright, this is preventing me from restoring anything on time machine back to any date on there. =/

  • Got crackling audio in MainStage 2.2.2? I did, and here's how I fixed it...

A lot of people are talking about an issue in MainStage 2.2.2. where crackling audio gradually builds in the signal and eventually becomes unbearable. I had this issue but none of the solutions I found in the support community worked for me.
The obvious fix is the increase the sample buffer size until the issue goes away (as it's often a matter of the CPU not being able to handle the load, especially on older machines). You can also turn on the Safety Buffer checkbox, which can further reduce the problem. My issue wasn't solved this way, unfortunately; no matter how high I increased the sample buffer, the problem persisted.
It seems the problem was being caused by my USB interface, which is a very good unit (the Focusrite Scarlett 18i6). My first mistake was that I used the Scarlett for input, but used built-in output. I suspect the Mac (2012 non-Retina MPB, 2.3GHz i7, 16 GB RAM, SSD) had trouble synchronizing with the device. I routed the output to the Scarlett as well and that seemed to fix the crackling. I had a problem with the device putting the dry signal Mainstage, which wasn't good. I then downloaded the software mixer (found on the Focusrite site) and, when I tried to run it, it told me the Scarlett needed a firmware update. So that was applied. I then ran the mixer and chose "DAW1" routing preset. After that... no more problems at all.
If you're having this exasperating experience with crackling and the buffer size doesn't fix it, perhaps the steps I took could help you find a solution as well.
    Good luck!
