Crackling noise then disconnects

My iPhone is making a crackling noise during calls, then drops them.  I have powered off & back on

How is your iphone working otherwise? Have you spoken with your cell phone carrier, it might be a network issue not a phone issue. You could try a new reinstall with factory settings but I would speak with your cell phone provider first.

  • So I have a 1.5 year old Macbook Pro (Early 2011) and since last week, it has been making a crackling noise that has escalated to a grinding noise. I went to Genius - they told me my HD was fine, but they could do nothing about the noise. I'm super upset

I have a Macbook Pro that I bought new in August of 2011. It's been wonderful up until now. Last week, I was watching a lot of Netflix for a day, but then it began making a tiny crackling noise when I started my computer. It wasn't really bothersome, but then it's escalated into a grinding noise. A loud grinding noise. I haven't been watching Netflix and barely use any of my applications. My RPMs vary when I'm idle  and can go up to 5000. Sometimes, it falls to as low as 1600.
I went to the Genius Bar today and the technician did two diagnostics to test the HD and the parts as a whole. Everything was fine. I was like, ***. Anyways, I asked if there could be anything done for the fans because I was willing to pay (I'm out of warranty). But he said they couldn't DO ANYTHING. That I would have to deal with the annoying noise. I called up Apple and told them what happened and she said that there was nothing else that could be done.
I am so ****** because I did pay good money for this product and I expect to  have the option to repair, ESPECIALLY since I'm willing to pay for the repair. Can anyone tell me what to do? Did anyone ever have this problem?

I would guess the fan is the cause of the noise. Suggest you take a look at it.

  • AUPitch results in crackle noise

Hello! I'm having an issue with the AUPitch filter when applied to perfectly fine audio. The audio is sped up (anywhere between 110% to 130%) and then I apply the AUPitch to correct the pitch change. This results (intermittently) in a crackling noise being introduced into my audio.
Any solutions? Are there any third party audio filters for FCP? Should I just send the problem clips to to Soundtrack Pro?
    Thanks!

if the built in pitch shift plug is not working for you then you can always pursue alternative options ... how hard do you want to make it?
you can bounce the clip out to SoundTrack Pro and do some pitch shifting there
or try an alternative (and free) AU pitch shift plug in such as Octave Shifter from Audiowish

  • Crackling noise after OS X update

    hi,
I have external speakers plugged into my MBP, and after the update, after a sound had been played, like a system alert or something, after a few seconds there was a crackling noise. It is as though the soundcard is turning off to save power, as it also happens when i am running on battery mode (i know this because i ran from battery power while i was running 10.4.9).
Does anybody else have the same problem or know what the problem may be?
    Thanks

Does anybody else have the same problem or know what the problem may be?
I do have the same problem. It's good to know that I'm not alone. My MBP's sound card was defective from origin and it was replaced under the warranty. Ever-since I'm a bit paranoiac that something similar could happen, you know, that the sound card getting damaged could be only the result of another internal device damaging it.
Anyway, I hear all those noises and I don't really like them but I could live with them if necessary till an additional update is released fixing this bug.
I have to say though, that I have always believed that the audio doesn't really increase properly. We all know that the sound, from none to full, increments 16 times... Well, according to me, when you are turning the audio up, it goes up very poorly till it reaches the 10 or 11 little square, then it really cranks up. Put it in a chart, the increment doesn't draw a straight diagonal line, but a curve, a parabolic line. And also, the sounds performs very differently in Windows. Much better I believe.
    Is that not true?

  • 21.5" iMac whistles whenever a file is moved and after a while in use makes loud continuous crackling noise

I have just received a refurbished iMac 21.5" running Mountail Lion but build mid 2011. It emits a high pitched whistling noise similar to a smoke alarm but not quite as loud whenever a file is moved, eg. to the trash and then while sorting old files recovered from the hard drive of my now deceased macbook, it began to make a crackling noise as well. Does anyone else have experience with this behaviour? It continues while the work continues and then when I stop moving files it continues for maybe another ten seconds then stops.

I'm afraid I don't have a solution, but I'd recommend you call AppleCare as you have 90 phone support (3 years if you bought the extended AppleCare). Hopefully they'll have a clue as to what's causing it or organise getting it fixed.
Before making the call there are a couple of things you could try. I doubt they'll work but you never know. They won't do any harm and will take a couple of minutes. An SMC and a PRAM reset. If you still have the problem best make that call. Good luck.

  • Audigy 2 ZS making bad "crackling" noises while playi

    Hi all.. I need help!!
I RMA'd my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS about 3 months ago and got it back, and it was fine for a while, but now its making severe crackling noises from all speakers whenever I play the game.. I've tried the speakers elsewhere and they are fine, and I've switched PCI slots several times, they still are crackling like crazy.. Totally ruins gameplay so I had to switch back to onboard sound.. Does this sound like I need to RMA it again, or is it possible I've overlooked something? It was fine previously.. My computer specs are:
    AMD64 3500+ Socket 939
    ABIT AV8 Motherboard
024 OCZ Platinum Dual Channel 2-2-2-
    Twin 0K RPM SATA Raptors
    BFG 6800GT OC Video Card
    Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
    Plextor PX-76A

I need help ASAP! Thanks in advance!!!!Message Edited by duckdown on 07-20-2005 03:20 AM

Not all of them, some suggestions just involve changing settings or changes in the BIOS. The settings may be named slightly differently on the various boards and BIOS versions/types.
If it worked fine on that system but has suddently developed this problem then it's possible there is a hardware problem. If you made any changes at all, it might be good to undo them, or go back to a restore point to see if that helps (and see if it's a software change/setting that affected this).
Otherwise I'd recommend contacting Customer Support so they can go over this with you in detail, one on one, to see what could be causing this.

  • Music Playing Twice as Fast and  a Crackling Noise

When I first play music on itunes, there weren't any problems at all. Once my CPU usage goes up (like when i play a game) the music plays twice as fast and theres a crackling every second (1 second music then 1 second crackling noise ). Once I lower my cpu usage, the music returns back to normal.
I didnt have this problem with the previous version of itunes though.
dell 8400 Windows 2000 Media Center Edition

I am having precisely the same problem and also did not experience this with the last version of iTunes. As opposed to Jagged_Link, however, I am always getting this problem. I have a very fast dual core computer Athlon 64 x2 4400 with 4 GBs of Ram so I don't think that a performace issue is the source of this problem, but I do have many other applications running at the same time (azureus, firefox, beyondTV). This was never an issue with the old version and I think that the problem might have to do with the gapless playback analytics (a problem with the process, perhaps). I will try eliminating all apps other than iTunes to see if there is a change.
By the way, a repair of iTunes, using the original installation file, did not change my situation. I only use MP3s (no AAC) and it be helpful if the other posters can provide this info as well, so that the problem can be identified better.
I hope we can find the problem and get it fixed!

  • Crackling noise on iPhone 3GS

I hear crackling noise from the ear speakers when I increase the volume. Sound's very irretating... Can't reduce the volume cause my assignment demands outdoor activities... Restored the phone using iTune, but its been of little help. Could this mean hardware replacement or is there something more that am missing to fix this????

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
    1. Power the iphone off, then back on.
    If no change, continue:
    2. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off. No saved data or settings will be lost.
    If no change, continue:
    3. Restore your phone from your most recent backup, Note, however: if the problem is related to corrupt data in your phone's backup, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
    If no change, continue:
    4. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store, as you most likely have a hardware problem. There are no more user troubleshooting steps available.

  • Crackling noise

For probably the last couple of months now, I've heard a crackling noise coming from my G4 - the same sound a PC makes when the hard drive is having problems. I ran the diagnostic disc and had an Apple genius look at my book, and no problems were found, but I'm getting nervous nevertheless as my book runs slower than I would like and I get that annoying spinner (hourglass) frequently and it lasts longer than I would like. Aside from that everything seems to be running fine, but I don't want to suddenly lose everything.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Should I purchase a hard drive to back up everything, or look into getting a new Mac (this one is just over 2 years old and I didn't purchase the service plan :(). THANKS!!
    G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Somebody else:
Should I purchase a hard drive to back up everything,
Definitely! You should backup regularly in any case, but especially if you are having undiagnosed problems that can very likely be your HDD.
Buy a Firewire external HDD, format (and partition, if you wish) and use SuperDuper to clone your entire HDD. SuperDuper makes it bootable, so if your HDD fails you can boot your computer from the Firewire HDD. (Note: it must be Firewire, not USB as PPC Macs won't boot from external USB devices). Here is Dr. Smoke's FAQ on Backup and Recovery with great ideas. Although he recommends Retrospect, I found it difficult to use. SuperDuper is the best there is.
the same sound a PC makes when the hard drive is having problems.
It could very well be. The G4 iBook has a reputation for doing in HDDs. The problem does not always show up, and by the time you find out, it might be too late. However, there is a chance it could be something else, although from your description I don't know.
Boot from your install disk, then go to the Utilities menu. Launch Disk Utility. Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in sidebar, and First Aid in main panel. Check the S.M.A.R.T Status at bottom of main panel. If it says Verified is is OK for now. If it says Failing you've got problems.
While you're in Disk Utility click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
or look into getting a new Mac (this one is just over 2 years old and I didn't purchase the service plan
Are you kidding! Mine is almost seven years old, and you'll have a fight on your hands if you try to get it away from me. Buy a new HDD; they're bigger, faster, and the prices have come down a lot (a lot cheaper than a new computer!).
Please don't hesitate to post back with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • Crackling noise - is Nano toast?

    Hi all,
My iPod Nano (4GB) is 1 year old. Have had no problems until yesterday. Loud crackling noise is interfering with music. Noise comes through earbuds and also iHome docking station. Noise is constant. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Message was edited by: musclecars

I was wondering if it was only me. I've had my Nano for less than a year, I've probably used it about 15 times total (I use it when I exercise and I noticed some time ago that it will play one song and then start crackling and popping when continuing with others. It sounds as though my earphones are popped like when the volume is too loud for them and the speaker pops, however, I've bought new earbuds (Sony's) and played it in both a desktop player that holds the NANO and my car system (high-end speakers) with the wire plugged into the earphone jack connected to the car kit system which plays thru the tape player system in my car. It makes these sounds on all devices...

  • Crackling noise plaguing itunes

I have been using an ipod connected to an amp with a line out dock. I was occasionally getting faint crackles, but I thought it was the amp (old and with valves). Recently I got a DAC so I connected my laptop to my new amp via the DAC to listen to itunes and the sound is plagued with crackles. If I use Spotify or listen to music off youtube the sound is fine. I have tried loads of fixes I have found by googling 'itunes crackles' such as turning off sound enhancers, adjusting volume and sound settings and nothing has worked.
I have found others on this forum who have asked about the same issue but no one seems to know what to do.
I am posting this to try and flag up this issue to Apple, as I cannot find a way of e-mailing them.
But if anyone knows of a solution it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I have the same problem, a crackling noise at the top end.
At first I thought it was my hi-fi system but now I am sure it is itunes.
I proved this by importing a CD in FLAC format and playing it with Vox FLAC player,
    no crackles fine.
Then I convert to Apple Lossless and import the same files into itunes , then there is a crackle in the high pitch area of the sound.
Tried all settings in iTunes , it will not go away.
I have often wondered how apple lossless files can be so small and still claim to be lossless, maybe there is a small compromise ??

  • Fixed line static/crackling noise

Hello All Just want to see what ppl's opinions are on where to go from here. I've been a having a problem with static/crackling noise on the fixed line for about 2 months now.  When Tech No. 1 came out, he said he changed something at the pillar, which is located somewhere between my house and the exchange. After he left, I got a text message saying the line test was ok. But it wasn't really ok, but I left it to see if there were any improvements. Fast forward to two months later, I noticed the noise was just as bad. So I reported the fault online and got a call from a lady the next day saying the fault would be investigated and repaired within x number of days. Then on Sunday, Tech No. 2 came out to my house without any notice at all. He too said that he changed some part. The line was actually ok when he called my home number using his mobile. But today, the noise is back. Should I report the fault again and hopefully one day Telstra might actually replace the line? What do ppl here think? Thanks.

If it's within 14 days of the callout by the engineer, you should be able to get an engineer out on the same incident. Definitely call, and have it checked. I asume you have filters, and no doubt they've told you that "if the problem is on your equipment then you pay the cost" etc etc So it's obviously outside your premises, and there may be something seriously going wrong on the lines/exchange if it's simply not lasting.

  • Crackling noise under Yosemite, excessive booting time

I have noticed a few things after upgrading to OS X Yosemite last night. I am on a mid-2014 rMBP with 8GB of RAM. Anybody hearing a crackling noise? In a quiet environment, I hear the laptop crackling as if it were working really hard (or too hard for what I'm doing). I only have Chrome opened. Never ever happened on OS X Mavericks.
Also, the boot time from shut down to lock screen is about 3-4 seconds which is amazing, but then when I type in my password, it takes like 15 seconds to load...
    Usual or unusual?
    Thanks

That's odd, the drive noise I heard on the Mavericks install I had is all but gone now! The slow startup OTOH, is now even worse for me than before, and when I switched to verbose mode at startup there's a whole bunch extra security being loaded, so that is obviously what is happening there.

  • Help! Macbook freezing and making crackling noises.

I purchased my macbook about a year ago and up until a few months ago it was running fine. All of a sudden one day after I started it up it ran very slow and started freezing. Then the speakers made some sort of crackling noise. I restarted, and eventually had to call support because it would freeze and I couldn't do anything. It turns out I never purchased the warranty but they helped me anyway. I did a disk check and the tech had me do some repairs. After that everything seemed to be fine. Until 2 months later I was use imovie and the computer just froze up and started making the noise again. Now it's back to what it was doing before. I can't get any help from tech support and I do not remember everything the tech had me do before. Is there anyone that has had a similar problem? I'd appreciate anyone's help! Thanks!!!

Apple start they macbook line on may 16 2006, so even if you buy your macbook at the very first day, few months ago you still covered by warranty.
Do check your warranty status from here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook/
Enter your hardware serial number to find out what coverage is available for your product:..............
Try to reset PRAM and SMC:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
Try to repair permission by open application folder > utilities folder > disk utility > repair permission.
if you want to repair disk, restart using your installer disk by boot up your macbook with installer disk inside and press C.
Choose language, go to utilities at menu bar > disk utility > repair disk.
    Good Luck.

  • When i plug the USB for my iPad into my computer it will connect then disconnect over and over again untill i wiggle the usb around alot. This is happening to all my ports. But not on the other computer.

Hi. Whenever i plug my iPad (Happens with ipod and iphone too) to my computer usb for itunes is will connect, then disconnect over and over again. It has happened for a long time but doesnt happen on my other computer. how do i fix this?

If you have a spare cable, try using that.  But the fact that this doesn't happen on your other computer (I assume using the same old cable) leads me to conclude that something else is at work.  Maybe even the "bad" computer.
