Crackling noise when rotating the headphone in the jack?

Is this normal? With the headphones that come with the iPod, I don't get this.. but I bought a different pair.. and they make a crackling noise when i rotate the connector in the headphone jack. Is this normal? Would I experience this if I upgraded to another headphone? Would it be different with the iPod in-ear headphones?

The crackling noise should never happen. The headphones must be defective. Return them to the store, buy another pair, and try them at the store before purchasing.

No one here can say for sure what Apple will do. You need to make an appointment at the Genius Bar to have the device looked at, and Apple makes the final determination. If they find a problem with the device, they can replace it.

  • Crackling noises when using Scarlett 2i2?

Just bought the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 yesterday as my previous audio interface broke. Now I am having crackling noises when using the 2i2. . .a problem I did not have with my previous M-Audio Fast Track C400. . .so I know it's a problem specific to the 2i2. Already downloaded the latest drivers as well.
Anybody have any solutions or similar problems with this product??? The crackling noise is intolerable.
    Thanks.

Hi lee,  it sounds like the problem your having is exactly the same as mine.  When I use the 2i2 there is clapping and crackling which gets worse and worse until the sound disappears,  I know a few people on different forums are having the same issue so I don't think it is the interface.  I'm using iMac 27

There should be no problems with this set up in terms of capability,  I'm still waiting to hear back from Focusrite tech help desk and when I do I'll share the outcome.  I hope this can be resolved,  let me know if you have any luck before me?
If I was in the UK I would pick up the phone and call Focusrite but I'm in Australia!!

  • The headphone of the N82

So, the headphone of the N82 has 5 keys: 2 to control the volume, and, when you use it when you're making a call, one (the one with the writing "Nokia") is used to hang up and the other one to disconnect the microphone; now, what the function of the middle key among the two volume keys?
Then, when you use it with the music player, the only keys that work are the volume keys: so, **bleep** you can't use the other keys to go ahead with the tracks or stop the music???
I'm Winston Wolf, I solve problems

I had the misfortune of visiting a Nokia Care Point 2 weeks ago.
I dropped my Nokia N82 and the big button in the middle of the keypad broke off. I decided rather than go through my phone insurance the quickest solution would be to take it to be repaired and pay myself as I had that day off work. I checked on this very site for the nearest Care point and was surprised that there are only 2 in the whole of Staffordshire. I phoned the nearest one and told them what had happened and stated I was almost sure it needed a new keypad and could they fit a new one that afternoon if I came over right away ? The man said to bring it over and he would have a look.
I drove the 20 miles parked in an overpriced multistory and walked across town to find the address and was very surprised to find it was a small backstreet secondhand phone shop.
I showed my phone to the chap who I had spoken to earlier who shouted through to the back room "Have we any keypads for a silver N82 ?" There was a muffled response from the back and the man said sorry no keypads and we cant order any parts from Nokia for at least a week because the computer is broke.
What a waste of an afternoon.

Had you brought the same pair of headphones to the Apple Store with you and they worked there?  If you hadn't, the wire or plug on those headphones may have failed.  Try a different pair if you can and see if those work.
    Hope this helps

  • Ipod is playing music out of the headphones and the speakers at the same

My ipod is playing music out of the headphones and the speakers at the same time and I can't figure out why. I reconnect the headphones and it still plays out of both...It is like it doesn't recognize that there are headphones plugged in, but yet it still plays out of them. Help would be appreciated. And the headphones are all the way plugged in

Ah my ipod is not the only one doing this obviously...i thought i was alone in this world...it still has this problem after an entire month...and no this problem has nothing to do with my computer...although sometimes plugging in the ipod to the computer eliminates the problem for a while.
Sometimes i listen to it at the loud volume that the other poster is talking about through the headphones and it will randomly recognize the headphones after about 30-60 minutes usually. but then the next day it will have the same problem

  • Nokia 5610 with crackle noise when use headphone

    hi everybody !!!
i am using nokia 5610 XM,it's realy great music phone but when i listening music with headphone sopmetimes i can hear the crackle noise
but when i play the same song by mp3player with the same headphone i can find the crackle sound
What happend with my phone, may be the sound chip has problem ???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

ders a few reasons y that may occur, there could be something wrong with the 3.5mm av in port, it could be dirty or damaged, or it could be a software thing where the music isn't being sent through as complete data through the connection. der r other reasons, either way, i would advise you to see a nokia care centre, especially if your warranty hasn't yet reached its void.

  • When I plug my headphones into the headphone/optical out jack programs hang

I have an iMac 20 inch LCD. On the back their is a jack with a picture of headphones, but it is also labeled as "optical out". I plug my headphones in and they work. Great. That is not my problem today.
My problem is that whenever I plug the headphones in or unplug them, iTunes (and other apps using audio) hangs and when I try to adjust the volume with the keyboard buttons nothing happens for 15 seconds or more and then the volume changes, not that anything is able to play. If I wait for a minute or so then all my applications start working fine again and I am able to hear my music and adjust the volume.
What in the world is going on?
    1.8 Ghz G5 1.25GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thank you. That is good information.
Does this mean that there is nothing I can do about the delay? When I think of a delay, I think of maybe 10 seconds. I am having to wait for a minute or more for my audio to switch. While I wait, I have no audio and any audio program hangs. Is there a setting I can change? It seems rather ridiculous that I have to wait so long just to switch from internal speakers to headphones.
It is like this on other Mac machines? Or it is just my iMac? I hate to compare Mac to Windows, but on Windows or Linux computers the switch is instantaneous.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro make clicking noises when pressure is applied to the unibody?

I purchased a MacBook Pro in late July of this year. Recently, I have noticed that when I begin to type on the keyboard, the unibody will make a faint sound when pressure from my hands is applied to the MacBook. I also notice a faint clicking noise when I pick up the MacBook Pro to move it somewhere. Additionally, the screen hinge makes a faint clicking noise when the screen is opened. Are these sounds normal?

Check if an AASP (Apple Authorised Service Provider) is closer, as some do not trust Geek Squad to diagnose something as simple as "all the keys are missing". But judge for yourself.: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434

  • Re: Satellite L500 - Crackling noise when audio is being reproduced

    Hi all,
I bought a L500 a few weeks ago (Windows 7 64bit). Everything goes fine except for the sound. 1h or so after turning on the computer, the speakers start to produce a "crackling", "metallic" noise when audio is being reproduced, irrespective of the source (CDs, system sounds, movies, mp3 files...). It's just like there were hundreds of "micro-interruptions". The same with earphones. This seems also to affect any multimedia files, e.g. videos 10 min length take 12 min or so to play due to these micro-interruptions. The sound goes worse with the time and gets normal once the system is restarted, but some minutes later the noise comes again.
I've all the last Toshiba driver updates, including BIOS, LAN and sound cards, etc.
What can I do? Any clue will be welcome.
    Many thanks in advance.

    hello,
first thing i would try is to replace the driver from toshiba with the Microsoft driver, I personally dont use any of toshiba's drivers due to branding i dislike, however this to one side I run Windows 7 64 Home Prem, the sound cards (typically realtek) all have Microsoft drivers available, they work with no problem for me.
If its deferntly not a driver issue and you have the same problem with headphones as well as the laptops speakers then its a problem with the soundcard itsself.
Is your laptop still under warranty? hopfully if its hardware its still under warranty. Give toshiba a call, they should pick the laptop up and get it repaired for you solong as you did not get it from somwere like P.C World, AOL etc, if you got it from one of them stores then you need phone or take it to the tekguys.
If you need a step-by-step for using microsofts drivers just reply saying so and i;ll sort that for you :)
    cheers
    Phil
