Crackly Sound on L755 Laptop, no headphone jack output

I have a L755 - S5366 laptop.   Windows 7 Home Premium.
Crackly sound comes from onboard speakers when using internet explorer or any of the "TEST" functions located in the Sound properties dialog boxes.  When playing YouTube, no sound at all.  Under all of these circumstances, there is no sound at all through the headphone jack.  Clicking the volume control, the little graphic that looks like an equalizer, shows sound being processed.   System shows all sound related devices and drivers to be enabled and working.
I have tried resetting BIOS settings back to factory defaults, restored windows to an earlier known working state, downloaded the most recent CONEXTANT audio driver from the Toshiba website.  Same symptoms persist.
Any other ideas of what to try, or am I looking at a costly hardware fix ?
I should mention, my daughter spilled a tiny amount of water on the laptop and it hit in the area of one of the speakers.  The laptop was immediately powered down, battery removed and placed upside down in a tent-like position to dry it out.
Thanks in advance ....

You've tried everything I would normally suggest. If you're sure it was working at the time the restore point was made, then it does sound like hardware failure. You could know for sure by performing a full system recovery. If the problem persists a system recovery, it requires servicing.

  • 5g ipod nano 8GB no sound through ear buds or headphone jack only when docked.

5g ipod nano 8GB no sound through ear buds or headphone jack only when docked. any suggestions? i don't want to replace any of the parts inside if at all possible.
I have a 5th generation 8GB iPod nano. I bout it off of eBay in May of 2010 and it has worked great until now (Apr 2011). The 5th gen plays music through the headphone jack even when no ear buds are plugged in. I was using it one day and it just stopped. I tried resetting it manually and automatically and I tried reinstalling iTunes. Nothing has worked. Now it won't even play sound though the ear buds (or the aux hook up in my car), only when it is docked to my iHome. Does anyone have any suggestions? I dont want to replace the iPod or any parts inside if at all possible. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOMED! THANKS!

Headphone jacks are only good for so many in and out usages.  Usually its the headphone jack itsefl that goes bad first but sometimes it is the internal part.  If you are lucky you can clean out the inside and get it to work.
These devices are not made to last for someone who actually has those headphones around there neck and acually uses there listening devices through out the day plugging it in and out.  This is not in any way an Apple thing, it is a problem with many devices.  The male ends tend to get dirty hanging around then scratch the female end when used.  In fact, using higher end headphones you can really notice even the smallest particles of dust on the male end of plug when used, that is the small popping you might notice when the cord moves.
Hopefully its a problem on the male side of things.
I would recommend a person that wants to use headphones alot to keep a small 2 inch extension plugged into there device that can be replaced when it goes bad inplace of wearing out the original plug.
Again, this is not an Apple problem alone.

  • No sound after getting soup in headphone jack

I accidentally spilled soup on my iPhone 4S and some of it got into the headphone jack. I cleaned all the soup out, but now my speakers don't work and I can't hear anything without my headphones. When I try and turn up/down the volume, the sound icon appears and says "headphones" even when my headphones aren't plugged in.
So could someone please tell me how much approximately it would cost to fix my phone? I'm not sure if I need a new headphone jack or speakers or if they're the same thing. Any information you can give me would be much appreciated.

  • HP Pavilion dm4-2070us Sound stop when put the headphone jack

    Hi
When I remove or put the headphones jack, the sound stops to work in the speakers and in the headphones. To turn it back, I have to close the player(music, video or sound streamer from the web site) and start it again, but if the headphones is pluged in it works very well, if I remove the jack stop again, it happens in reverse case.
Could you please tell me the solution for this problem?

I had the same problem with dm4-2070us and I just finished chatting with HP customer service. The representative asked me to do few things including setting the BIOS to default. I also reinstalled the driver. NOTHING WROKED.
He told me to do a  complete revovery of the system to factory reset. I didn't want to go that route.
What I did is downloaded the older driver for dm4-1162us and installed on my dm4-2070 and it fixed the problem. Now the only thing I'm missing is the Dolby sound, about which I don't care that much.
    Hope this help you also.
Conclusion: It's a software problem. May HP come uo with a new driver to fix it, SOON.
    Thanks.

  • No sound, red light emitted from headphone jack

So I really have no idea how to get my sound back. I simply pulled my headphones out of the back of my Mac and I lost sound from the speakers in the computer. When I hit the adjust volume buttons on the keyboard, a circle-with-a-line-through-it symbol shows up underneath, and I hear nothing. When I look at the port where my headphones plug in, a red light is shining out of it. I've already checked sound options in system preferences. Did I break my sound by simply pulling my headphones out?? Help!

Had same thing happen a couple times and fixed it by just plugging headphones in and unplugging a couple times.
Don't know for a fact but I think the audio output thinks it has a digital optical device connected (Hence the red light). That would explain why you are getting no sound from speakers.
Next step would be to call Apple.

  • Use the headphone jack output and bluetooth at the same time

I am going to buy a blue-tooth headset for my 3GS.
Am I able to use the blue tooth mic and the headphone plug on the 3GS in the phone conversation?

Now I listen the music with the Ipod through headphone amplifier for better sound quality. The amplifier is plug into the dock port. I have to buy a bluetooth headset come with the 3.5mm jack. I want the sound output still from the headphone jack or line-out. The bluetooth headset work like a cordless mic. Also, the headphone amplifier still getting work.

  • What do i do if my (a.) my itunes no longer detects my ipod, and (b.) no sound comes out of the headphone jack? The ipod still turns on, operates, and charges.

My ipod still works as far as powering up and operating is concerned, but it suddenly stopped outputting a signal through the sound jack. Also it no longer is detected by itunes in the source list.

It would be odd if both of those problems happened at the same time, since they seem unrelated (unless you dropped the iPod or got it wet or had some other accident).
Check the other end of both of those connections first.  Try a different set of headphones.  Try a different docking cable.  Try a different USB port.  Make sure the computer has been restarted since having this problem.
If it still powers up to the main screen, and seems to play songs (although you can't hear them), that probably means the hard drive is still working.  That's good, because it's the most valuable part, and the part that usually breaks first (on an iPod that has a hard drive).
If you can't get it working, you might consider getting a broken iPod on eBay.  Chances are good that it is broken because of a bad hard drive (unless the description makes it clear that it's another problem), and the other parts (except maybe the battery) are likely to be OK.  You can then swap its bad hard drive for your iPod's hard drive.  Be sure to get the same type of iPod, including the thickness, because the 5th gen iPod came in two thicknesses (corresponding to the thickness/capacity of the hard drive mechanism).
This is one web site with instructions for disassembly
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original
But don't spend too much money on it.  The hard drive may appear to be working now, but you never know when it might fail.

  • No sound from HP G62 laptop and can no longer get sound from speakers or headphone jack . USB sworks

have an HP G62 laptop.  I can no longer receive sound from speakers or from headphone jack.  If I plug speakers into usb - I will get sound.  Any ideas?

I don't think I have anything to offer that you haven't done. In Device Manager, Device status says "working properly" and you've reinstalled this driver.

    Right?
The only other thing I know to do is restore the hard drive to its original factory fresh contents.

  • Terrible, tinny sound from headphone jack. Satellite

I've looked at all the settings I could find, but the sound from iTunes, out the headphone jack, to a small stereo is horribly tinny. I can plug the exact same wire into my phone which has great sound, so it's sth about the sound card ,not the rest of my system. I am not talking about the speakers

    Hello JohnBoarkman,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you hear no sound from your accessory when you connect to your headphone jack. My first troubleshooting suggestion for this situation would be resetting the NVRAM on your Mac. Please use the instructions in the attached article to complete this process and let me know if the issue continues.

  • Sound coming from headphone jack becomes heavily distorted at the slightest movement of the headphone cable.

I use headphones almost exclusively of my Macbook Pro (Early 2011, way out of warranty) so this has really been annoying me. For about 1-2 weeks now whenever the wire from the headphones I have plugged in to the jack moves, even slightly, the sound coming from the left side disappears almost entirely while the sound from the right side becomes quiet and filled with static. Strangely, it doesn't appear to happen with everything that I'm doing on my computer. For example when playing games the sound seems to work just fine for the most part, but playing music or watching Netflix causes issues whenever the cord moves, which is really annoying.
To get it to stop, I have to move wiggle the plug around in the jack and slowly move the cord into a place where it will not be affected by movement very easily. I read that some people have been able to get around this by buying an external sound card and using the headphone jack on there, but I'd rather not do that if possible as there isn't really anywhere that I can put it without most likely picking up some interference. Plus I only have two USB ports, so I have to use a powered USB hub thats about 2-3 feet away from my computer for most things. Anyone know if this is a viable solution or how much it would cost to fix at the Apple Store?

Also, I have tried restarting my computer, messing with the audio settings, and various other settings that I thought might help.

  • Macbook Pro Headphone Jack, a very strange thing going on with it? help

    Hello,
My Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2011 has had this very annoying small issue for over a year with the headphone jack. Sound only plays through the headphone jack as per normal when i restart the laptop, but once i remove the headphones and plug them back in sound isn't going through the headphone, it's going through the speakers as if headphones aren't plugged in, to have it working as normal i have to restart the laptop again.
Is this a hardware or software issue?
    Please help me resolve this..
    Thanks,
    Jacob

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Since this is a brand new MBP under warranty, the best thing to do is to contact Apple and tell them about your difficulties. If you have access to an Apple Store, you might want to bring your Mac in and show them what it is doing. This does not sound at all normal, and it's very possible that you have hardware issues involved. If so, you should be eligible for a repair under warranty or possibly even a replacement if you are still in the first 2 weeks of ownership.
There is a long thread which may be relevant:

It's probably too long to read the whole thing, but you might browse the posted images and see if this looks like your problem.

  • Headphone Jack No Longer Works

Does anyone know of headphones that may plug into the bottom outlet of the iPod, where it connects usually to stereo equipment. My iPod still works with this connection, to charge it, to listen on my computer, on my stereo but the headphone jack no longer works so I can't use it in my car or at other times.

Ok I just talked to headroom and with this adapter you can go directly to a set of headphones or to one of their amps. Additionally the pin connector provides improved sound quality over the cheap headphone jack that comes stock on the ipod.

  • Headphone jack on front panel

For a while now (since I installed parallels &/or leopard I think) I have a very quiet sound coming from the front headphone jack (by quiet I mean I can just hear the last 2 clicks on the system volume control).
The headphones I am using work fine in the back line-out jack but the sound at the front is barely audible. I have looked at the midi preferences but the master channel is set low and greyed out - is this the issue and if so how can I edit that? I'm not sure because it's the same for the line-out on the back and the sound is normal there.
I'm guessing it's probably a software issue as there is some sound coming out but can't find a fix anywhere??
Thanks in advance for your time.

    Dear Chris:
This is not the answer you are looking for, but it may be an alternati've for you. I bought the i/o bay on EBAY for $40.00. The bay was bought originally bought from Auzentech and is identical to Creative's. It took me about two weeks to find it, but I works 00%. If you buy a part from a manufacturer, I would think it will be between $0-$20 and a lot of your time soldering or tinkering. Again, Ebay may not be to your liking, but it is better than $00 for a new one.
