Crash after restoring iPad 1st GEN

Hello all,
Okay, I have an iPad 1st gen and until today it had never been synced with a computer.
So I installed iTunes my entered apple id and password then began downloading the iOS update. (so far so good)
I synced and made a backup restore of ipad and began installing iOS update
upon completion of the installation which took like an hour or more, i was greeted with an error that  said it had failed to update and recommended restoring
it. So I obliged and started the restore process now the ipad wants me too set it up, thats fine with me.
Well partway through the setup it asks me for a sim and PUK number which I do not have because this iPad has never had a sim in it ever?
I run internet off of it using a Verizon MIFI box and now I cant finish the installation without a sim? it has never had one so what do I do?
The installation wont complete  without a sim so what do I do?

i think restoring your ipad should solve your problem! even i have an ipad 1! and it works absolutely fine ! the only app i have seen crashing is infinity blade( that to works in 2-3 times)!
also u can try hard rebooting your ipad!
and ur worry aboout apps being for ipad 2 and new! there are separate apps for them which you will be told while downloading that are incompatible with your ipad!
so i think restoring shoudl do the trick! first try hard reboot! i.e ipad power off!

  • Some books form iTunes Store makes iBooks crash on iPad 1st Gen

I have had this problem only once before when I bought "The Fifth Witness" by Michael Connelly.
It would open to the first page and then automatically go back the the home page. I would try again and noticed the little dots at the bottom
move 1/4 to half way and iBooks would crash again! This became very frustrating as there is no explanation online about this particular
    problem.
Then my wife got her iPad 2 and I downloaded the same book to hers and it loaded without a problem!
The same thing happened this week when I bought "Foundation".. it just crashes on my iPad 1st gen but not on the iPad 2.
I have even tried closing all other aplications as to give iBooks all the resources my iPad has to offer, and the same thing happened.
I love the new iPad but cant put reason to buying a new one because there is nothing wrong with my old one.
From my experience it appears as though some of the books in the iTunes store are only compatible with the new generation devices.
This leaves the rest of us who have devices that are barely a year old to find other ways to use the item we have purchased for use on Apple products!
I know I'm not the only person having this particular problem. My wife and I own quite a few apple products. This is the only one that frustrates me.
    Apple please fix this one!

iBooks app has just been updated to v 1.3.1 ; Apple says it fixes some "stability and performance issues".
Launch the AppStore and look under updates .

  • IPad 1st Gen Apps Crashing (Mail, Settings, etc.)

Having problems with my iPad 1st Gen. OS 5.1.1   All Apps are crashing when trying to enter text in a "search" area.  Mail App, Settings App and other Apple Apps are crashing as they open.  Can't save any artwork to Photo Album.  Can't Transfer Files.
I tried to do a RESTORE.  Keeps "Timing Out" on me.

  • IPad 1st gen iOS 5.1.1 crashes on all apps!

Several years ago I bought my wife an ipad 1st gen, which is still is mint condition, however last year it started to randomly close apps, safari....bloody everything really. I decided recently to get my wife the new ipad air and I took ownership of the 1st gen, I thought it might be crashing due to the amount of apps and memory use from those apps. I reset the 1st gen through itunes and loaded a few apps, problem is, it still closes apps and browsers after between 1 minutes and 5 minutes of opening. This is extremely frustrating as it kicks me out of work links through citrix and something as simple as reading the news on a website. The ipad has become a dust collector as such, since there appears no way of using this enjoyably.
    Any ideas out there?
    Thank you

I had synced with my computer on itunes before I did the update, but in my itunes I only see my apps music and photos. I see nothing about your calander on itunes.  I did not have the cloud untill this update, so it would not be there.

  • I recently upgrade to an iPAD Air. I gave my old iPAD (1st gen) to my wife.  I restored it to original factory conditions.  Now we cannot install iBook on it since it requires iOS 7.  What can we do with older iPADS that are still 100% functional.

Look at this similar problem in getting Netflix on an iPad 1. Same technique should work for you.

  • Should I upgrade iPad (1st Gen) from iOS 4.2.1 to iOs 5.1.1?

I am using iPad (Wi-Fi only) from last 2 years mainly for web surfing and emails. iOS 5 is sure slick and tempting. Should I upgrade or not? I dont want iPad to get sluggish after update, in that way I am better off with iOS 4.2.1 running smoothly on it. Help pls.!

    I dunno sabatoge.
It seems like it would be nice to have ipade 1st gen to get 6.0
But it would certainly help safari from crashing.     Still.
I wouldn't,t say that 5.1.1 is the LAST UPGRADE.          Apple might still do something.

  • IPhone 4s iOS 6.0.1 and iPad 1st gen. iOS 5.0. What do I need to do?

Wifi connection problem between iPhone 4s iOS 6.0.1 and iPad 1st gen. iOS 5.0. What do I need to do? I've reset the network on each and nothing. Please help.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Video Thumbnail images gone - iPad 1st gen, iOS5

After updgrading my iPad 1st gen to iOS5, all of my video thumbnail images are gone.
The iPad just displays a white box with a gray flat screen TV icon for every video file listed under Movies or TV Shows
This is most troublesome when I touch the TV Shows button and I get a page full of those white boxes with the TV icon - and, as has always been the case, there is no name for the TV show. So I'm lost in the white boxes trying to find LOST the TV show.
Any thoughts on how I get my thumbnails back?

If they are in your iTunes library on your computer why don't you try syncing again. Make sure that all of the shows are selected to sync along with the sync Movies heading and then sync again.
If they are only on the iPad it might be a good idea to transfer the purchases into the iTunes library. Connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes and right click on the device name and select Transfer Purchases.
If you have tried syncing, try restarting, resetting and quitting the videos app.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
To quit the videos app - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • IMovie on iPad 1st gen

Just wondered if anyone knows if iMovie will work with the 1st gen iPad?
The info on the Apple site shows the iPad 2 as one of the compatible devices but I can't for the life of me think why it would not be compatible whith the iPad 1st gen? Yes it doesn't have a camera but importing footage from and external video camera is pretty straight forward and lets be honest however the great the iPad 2 camera is it's not exactly practical!
    Interested to hear people ideas.

I will be one of the (up to 15 million) Gen I iPad users that will be terribly upset if Apple doesn't support both iMovie and Garage Band on the original iPad w/vers 4.3.1.
Many video cameras record direct to QuickTime format(.MOV) and I have purchased the camera kit etc. just for moving files to edit on my iPad. ReelDirector works but its output resolution is limited (it's really designed for iPhone native resolution).
On another topic, the only reason I haven't purchased the Guitar accessory (Amplitude Rig) is because I can currently plug directly into my Macbook. With Garage Band on iPad, now the Guitar Rig for iPad looks more enticing.
I believe Mr. Jobs, in his iPad II keynote said "now the iPad 1 was no slouch when it came to processing power..." (before announcing the new chipset).
Please Apple, don't leave some of us 15 million iPad 1 supporters in the rain a mere 11 months after we bought our iPad 1!!
P.S. As I typed this, I just got an e-mail from Best-Buy that ALL iPad 1's were on sale for $100 off original price (until supplies last)

  • Is it safe to update my iPad 1st gen to 4.3?

    Hello all,
Thank you all for commenting on my other posts.  After many of you chimed in on whether I should buy an iPad 1st gen refurb or buy an iPad 2 I bought the refurb. It's been a great purchase!  My iPad came with iOS 4.2. With all the horror stories about updating iPads I have held off on updating to 4.3.  I would love to get your feedback on whether it is okay or not to update to 4.3.
I don't trust Apple's recommendations lately.  I updated my iPod touch 3rd gen based on Apple stating that the 3rd gen is supported in the new iOS.  The new iOS killed my battery!  I ended up buying another iPod.  Several posts have confirmed this to be the case with many others who did the same update.  So before I update my iPad I would like feedback about updating it.
    Thanks!

I too have updated every iDevice that I own with every update that comes out very time an update comes out. I hope that makes sense to you. No problems whatsoever including battery issues on 3 iPod Touch 4G and my original iPad.
I do have some concerns that we have two Kings in Britain/Briton with a royal wedding coming up I think you guys would have other concerns!

  • Candy crush update keeps crashing on my ipad 1st generation

candy crush update keeps crashing on my ipad 1st generation. it says loading, goes to play, very sluggish and then goes to home page. Storage is not the problem

I have a work around that will allow me to play Candy Crush (CC) on my 1st generation iPad.
My game would drop back to the main iPad icon screen when ever I loaded it and hit Play.  This was all caused by the lastest updates of CC.
Here is what works for my iPad crashes.
    1. Turn the WiFi networking option off and leave it off. (this is in "Settings")
    2. Turn the iPad off by doing a full power down. (Press and hold the power button)
    3. After the iPad has completed the power down, re-start the iPad normally (keeping the WiFi OFF)
Candy Crush should run normally now as it did in the past, but, with the possiblity of a few odd problems:
If CC game crashes after several rounds of play, repeat steps 2 and 3.
If CC balks, at any time, repeating steps 2 and 3 seems to reset the play operation
    Good Luck. . . .
