Crash and boot up problem......can I fix self? Suggestions?

Question

Working on some excel documents and my main monitor goes nuts then blank.
My second monitor is noisy and the desktop is shifted...center is an edge sides flipped.
Power it down by holding power button .....nothing else worked.
Now when I power up initially I get a gray screen with three green vertical bars , one on each end one in middle....or maybe 4 of them.
I get the Mac icon and little cog...it then goes to a gray screen and finally "white"
I tried holding every combination of keys down(wireless keyboard) recommended in searches I made.....nothing works
Three hours of trying all these things......
Any suggestions?
Put install disc in......nothing....

I know you said you've tried every combination of start up short cuts but would you mind lisiting what you've tried?
These are two things I would suggest if you haven't already
Reset NVRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
SMC reset
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer. 
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
