Crash Diagnostic Every Time You Sync

Hi,
I use Windows XP. Yesterday when I synced my phone, I got the crash diagnostic message. I clicked yes to send the info to Apple. I then disconnected and immediately synced again, without doing anything else with the computer or the phone and I got the crash diagnostic message again. I looked in the crash log folder and discovered that a crash log had not been created the last time I synced. No matter how many times tell iTunes to send the crash diagnostic, I get the crash message each time I sync and no crash log is created. I know it has been able to send crash data in the past because I have several older crash logs. I did a hard restart of my iPhone, did a phone restore and also uninstall/reinstalled iTunes and the problem remains.
I took it the Apple Store today and at first, they thought something had gone screwy with Windows on my computer, which is a reasonable guess. But when we hooked my iPhone up to the Windows machine at the store, we were able to reproduce the problem, which seems to indicate that it's a problem with the phone, not my Windows install since what are the odds the Windows machine at the store also got corrupted in the same manner?
Then we synced the phone with Mac OS and clicked yes to send the crash diagnotic. When we synced again under Mac OS, we did not get the diagnostic message. Then, we synced under Windows again and this time, the diagnostic message did not appear. It appears under Mac OS, the crash diagnostic log was generated and sent. So now we have two pieces of evidence: one seems to indicate that the phone is the problem - since it's highly unlikely that two separate Windows machine would have the same problem - while the fact that the crash diagnotic worked under Mac OS points to Windows as the culprit.
Anyone have similar issues?

Unfortunately, the store wasn't able to figure out exactly what was going on because the problem was "fixed" after we synced up the phone using the Mac OS. We tried to crash the phone again but I couldn't figure out a quick-and-easy way to cause a crash. Basically, we left it at wait until it crashes again and see if I have the same trouble sending a crash log.
The thing is, the version of iTunes I'm using at home is 7.4.1 and the Apple Store had iTunes 7.4.3.1 (which is even more recent than what's publicly available; the one you can download is 7.4.3). Plus, as I mentioned in my original post, the crash diagnostic has worked properly in the past. I've sent two or three crash logs using the 7.4.1 version of iTunes. It's only yesterday that this problem started.
I would think it's a bug in iTunes but I searched this and other forums and there aren't really many reports of similar problem. I would have thought this would affect a lot more people. I found a couple posts in this forum with the exact same description but no resolution, which is why I posted. It could be that many people are having this problem but don't even realize it because they checked off the box so they aren't prompted again about sending the diagnostic info. They may not even be aware that the crash diagnostic isn't working.

    It's supposed to back up every time you sync. The problem is that with the 1st gen iPhone (and iTunes 7.6,) the back up took all of 1-2 seconds, and you really couldn't even notice it happened. Now, it's taking minutes.
    However, Apple has acknowledged the problem, and it's a problem with iTunes 7.7, not the iPhone, so let's all pray they take care of this fast!

    Syncing requires a backup as part of the sync process.
    Delete any existing backups in iTunes under Edit > Preferences > Devices (or simply move them to a different folder on the computer) then try a backup or sync.

    It means that you need the latest version of Mountain Lion or Mavericks to run Logic Pro X.

    What to do?

    Is MobileMe still in your Aperture Preferences (the "Accounts panel" in the "Web" tab)? Then open the preferences and delete this account.
    If Aperture will not let you, quit Aperture and remove the Aperture User Preference file from your User Library.
    The user preferences are hidden by default; reveal them from the Finder's "Go" menu:
    Quit Aperture, if it is running:
    Open the user library by using the Finder's "Go " menu and hold down the options-key, until "Library" appears in the drop down menu. Select it.
    In the widow that will open, scroll down to "Preferences"
    From the "Preferences" folder  remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist" to the Desktop.
    Then try to launch Aperture again.
    If this does not help, move the Preferences back.
    Also:
    Do you still have a MobileMe preferences pane in the system Preferences (you probably want have running Mt. Lion)? Then go there, and sign out of MobileMe as well.

  • How do I stop the "other" data from growing every time I sync my iPhone?

    I recently started putting music on my iPhone 4s, and I found that every time I sync music, the "other" storage keeps growing. This only happens when I sync music. If I don't have music on my iPhone, the "other" doesn't grow. Why is this?? Does anyone know how to make this stop? I had to restore my phone as new to delete the "other" storage (I had almost 3 G on my 8 G iPhone). Because the "other" data takes up so much room, I find it difficult to add everything that I want to on my iPhone (like all of my music). Please help!

    Try disconnecting and reconnecting your device, then syncing again to solve this issue.
    Orphaned files may remain on your iOS device if it is physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, the Capacity indicator in iTunes may report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device. To resolve this issue:
    Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
    Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
    Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
    Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
    If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 5.
    Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device. To do this:
    Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
    Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
    Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
    Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.
    If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 6.
    Restore using iTunes.

    How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files?     erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
    I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
    So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

    Every time I sync my iPhone 4 with iTunes the number of my custom ring tones change.  I have 7 custom ring tones listed.   The first time it will load 1 of the ring tones and the next time it will load 3,  The next time it will be back to 1.  If I have assigned one of the custom ring tones and it does not get loaded it goes back to the ring tone that came with the phone.  The last time itunes gave me 4 of the 7 so I have not tried to sync it again.  I am using iTunes 10 (10.4.10), and windows 7.
    Has anyone else had this problem??
    Any ideas to what I need to do??

    Have you ever had all 7 of them synced before? Are these ringtones you made yourself? Is there a chance they could exceed 30 seconds in length? Is there a chance you have moved the original file location on the computer? May need the answers to a couple more questions to try and determine an answer.

    When you sync the iPad, do you have mail settings configured to sync to the iPad? You could have different settings on your computer that might be affecting the email set up on the iPad when you sync.

    Every time I sync my phone with my computer, the time and date on my phone changes - it goes to one week behind, and about 10 hours earlier than it actually is. My computer calendar has the right time (NYC time zone), the calendar support settings on my iPhone are set to NYC time zone - what could be happening? Any ideas?

    So i went to the apple store to meet with an apple genius to ask him why my phone's time kept moving up 1 hour everytime I synced my phone. Well he said that he's never seen this problem before, and after a trying a reset and restore he let me exchange my phone. The problem is that when I went to sync my new phone the problem still persisted. They told me it was probably something to do with my computer and its time zone settings.
    So I get home and click on my computers clock in the bottom right hand corner to bring up the date and time properties and sure enought my time is correct, the date is correct and the time zone is correct (Eastern Daylight Time). So I look through the different tabs (Date & Time, Time Zone, Internet Time). The first thing I tried to do was to change where my computer syncs its internet time. It was originaly set on NIST time. I then switched it to Windows time, but this didn't do anything. My clock would still change when I synced to itunes. The next thing I tried was fideling around in the Time Zone tabs. I noticed that the box that says "Automatically adjust clock for daylight savings" was unchecked, so I checked it and my computer's time jumped an hour ahead. So I left the box checked but moved my clock one hour back (to the correct time), clicked on apply and left it at that. I synced my iPhone and voila! The time didn't change! It stayed on the correct time! To to make a long story short, make sure that you computer's clock is set on "automatically adjust clock for daylight savings changes, make sure your time zone is correct, and that the time is right when that box is checked. I hope this helps you. I'm glad I got a new phone out of the deal;)

    Mike whether I create a folder within the Pictures Folder that iTunes uses to sync photographs or just copy them into the main folder the result is the same, I end up with Photo Library plus another album containing an identical set of pictures as contained in Photo Library.
    The User Manual for iOS5 states ...
    You can create, rename, and delete albums on iPhone to help you organize your photos and videos.
    Create a album: When viewing albums, tap Edit, then tap Add. Select photos to add to the new album, then tap Done. Note: Albums created on iPhone aren’t synced back to your computer.
    Rename an album Tap Edit, then select an album.
    Rearrange albums Tap Edit, then drag up or down.
    Delete an album Tap Edit, then tap the delete sign.
    Yes I can Add a new Album, but cannot delete an album already created. The delete sign does not appear.
    In iTunes the only folder that I can see listed is the man one into which iTunes stores pictures, which I have named iPhone Photos.
    When I look on my PC this iPhone Photos folder contains another folder named iPod Photo Cache and a multitude of folders created by iTunes, the named F00, F01,F02 etc etc. and a Photo Database file.
    Now whether I create a seperate folder within iPhone Photos to store my favourite photos in, or just copy them all into the iPhone Photos folder without being encased within another folder, or create a folder inside the iPod Photo Cache folder the result is the same ...
    I end up with Photo Library plus another album containing an identical set of pictures as contained in Photo Library.
    I am going around in ever decreasing circles here and getting nowhere fast!!

    After having experienced similar problems and having it back to work, I have a few suggestions:
    - Try to find out if the syncing stops at a particular track or song. That might - out of the blue - have gotten corrupted in one way or another. Since that song will not be on the iPod, iTunes will try over and over to put it on and crash in one way or another;
    - reformat the iPod as described in the iTunes 9 crash-thread. It takes time (at first it seems to do nothing, but that is because the green bar is moving with very small steps);
