Crash down of my macbook air

Hi all, i've bought this macbook air 13" this august and now is installed the OSX is mavericks 10.9.2 soo i use this pc for music and i usually connect some device like a sound card or an effect processor by using the USB port..(all the device is full compatible with this OSX and pc)...
Sometimes when i disconnect one of the devices my macbook air crash down and restart with the error   "you had suddenly turned off the macbook...(etc)".
I do not know what it may cause this crash down i hope you can help me. To avoid this problem i need to close the program using the device (obviously) and then turn my macbook in stand by , by closing it and then disconnect the cable from usb and then open it again... such a waste of time soo can you help me??

  • How to slow down the CPU Macbook Air?

    Dear all,
The CPU on my  Macbook Air 11-inch mid 2012 is overheating and shutting down the computer. I tried everything: smcFancontrol,  checked if there are jobs keeping the CPU busy and so on.
I live in a very hot country and there are no Apple stores here. So I guess that the only solution is to slow the MBA down.  I am not a power user and I do not mind if it runs slower (and colder). I have checked coolbook but it does not run on 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 running OSX 10.9.5.
      Any help?
    Thank you so much!
    LMM

    Install iStat menues:
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
Open Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and set CPU to display values from high to low.
Post images of both when the MBA gaets hot.
Heat is usually a function of the type and number of applications being used.  The less stress is put on the CPU, the less heat will be generated.  It becomes a question if the heat is within acceptable levels or not.
    Ciao.

Is this a problem with the nouveau drivers? If so, any ideas for a workaround?

  • Unable to download crash logs from iPhone 5  into MacBook Air 10.8.4

    Hi All,
I' am new to mac world. Apologies if this is a very basic question.
I have an iPhone 5 and and I would like to download my app's crash reports into my MacBook Air 10.8.4 for further ivestigation.
    What I did was:
    1. Connect device
    2. open iTunes and click sync (sync successful)
    3. Now all my photos that I took using my iPhone are visible in Macbook's iPhotos (until this - very good)
    Now,
    4. Open up a Terminal app
    5. put ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/ to download my iPhone app's crash logs, assuming they would all have synced, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it has even got CrashReporter/MobileDevice/ forlder created in my ~/Library/Logs/ directory.
Any help to download all the iPhone 5 app crash logs into my Macbook would be really very appreciated.
(Please also let me know if I need to change any setting in my iPhone that will allow me to download my crash logs from Diagnostics section into my Macbook)

  • Why does my MacBook Air's shutting down slow down after the recent update?

After the newly update OS X Update 10.9.4, the shut down of my MacBook Air slows down. It will stay several seconds more than before the update. This happens every time I try to shut down my MacBook, please meet my problem.

A Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
Once your Mac has booted to the desktop, click Shut Down from the Apple () menu to test.

  • Macbook air won't pair to bluetooth

My macbook air won't pair with bluetooth capable devices.  It'll show that my iPhone 5 is paired but for error reasons won't connect.  It used to be able to connect to bluetooth no problem...but after a harddrive crash on a new macbook air, it hasn't worked since.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You seem to want to argue.  I KNOW there is no limit to the number of devices...the POINT is that if it was paired with another computer, it NEEDS to be deleted from that computer.
Incidentally, I assumed you wanted help.  If you wish to decide you already have the answer, I will not waste any more of my time.

  • MacBook Air crashes/powers down each time it's turned on.

I replaced OS 10.6.8 on my MacBook Air with Lion 10.7 when Lion became available last week.
Last night I noticed some odd behavior -- extremely slow "genii" minimization of screens, duplications of key strokes, and other anomalies.
Then today, each time I tried to boot up, as soon as the wheel stopped spinning and the desktop became visible:
Several windows automatically displayed -- windows I was working on when I shutdown earlier.
The dialogue box appeared with buttons for | Restart | Sleep | Cancel | Shutdown |
Almost immediately, the power cut off and the screen went dark.
"Reopen windows when logging back in" was checked, so I unchecked it.  As a result, the Air now powers down without displaying windows or the dialogue box.  It goes black almost as soon as the Apple logo and login wheel disappear. (I'm connected to the Power Adapter, so there's no problem about power.)
I tried several remedies that have worked in the past with OS 10.6+, but they're not working now --
Opening in Safe Mode: the system powered down while I was logging in.
Using Command-R to invoke Disk Utility:  The system crashed before I could start Disk Utility.
Resetting my Power Management using the Shift-Control-Option + Power.  The air powered down as soon as I turned it on.
Finally, I tried reinstalling Snow Leopard using the Install stick that came with the Air, but the system died before I could initiate a new install.  What's going on?
First clue:  I tried the fix-errors command, fsck, in single-user mode.  It logged into command line fine, bu tbefore I could invoke /sbin/ fsck -fy as usual, a line appeared
          : / root#  AppleMCP89TMSpowerGatingdown(0)done
and the system died.  Did something actually "power-gate down"?   What's that mean?  (MCP89 is an Nvidia video chip.)
Second clue:  When I disconnected the Air's Power Adapter because of a lightning storm outside, the Air rebooted and then died, rebooted and died, etc.  (I'm typing these comments on my Pro, of course.) It only stopped when I shut the lid.
Thanks very much for your knowledge, expertise, and suggestions for how to restore my Air or if it's a hardware problem, how bad it might be.

I experienced the same. Then I reinstalled OSX Tiger, put in my Snow Leopard Disc and restored my system from Time Machine. But OS X Lion constantly makes my system crash, so after the last crash (twice a week it did) I reinstalled Snow Leopard and restored what I needed to use from my Time Machine backup manually. (including finding hidden files for my mails, adress book, calendar etc).
I look forward to Apple telling us whether OS X Lion can run on EVERY Mac with an Intel processor from 1.83 Core 2 Duo. I have 2 Gb RAM and everything worked really nice and fine until Lion crashed. And the problem seemed that it has also corrupted my backups in Time Machine when Lion tossed round my files.

  • Will OS X Mountain Lion slow down or crash my MacBook Air "13?

    Hi
I just downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and I am hesitant to install it... Here are some reasons why
    1. My MacBook Air will crash during the installation
    2. It will dramaticly slow down my notebook (CPU)
Thanks if you can answer my question.
P.S. I have to 2GB of memory (RAM)

It won't slow it down over Lion. Likely be faster, but you would be better off with 4GB or more RAM.

  • Hi, I am having trouble MacBook Air crashing since Yosemite upgrade. I ran an Etresoft check but I don't know what it means... my system runs slowly and crashes. I have to force shutdown. Sometimes screen is black for a split second b/w webmail pages

    Hello,
I am having trouble with my MacBook Air 13 inch June 2012 MacBook Air5, 2 4GB RAM  details below in Etresoft report. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and am having system trouble. My computer crashes and I have to force quit to restart. When using webmail there is a black screen for a split second between pages. This did not happen before. I am worried that it is not running properly and perhaps I need to revert to the previous operating system. I only have a MacBook Air and no need to share images between a tablet or phone so I did not need the new photo sharing software of Yosemite. I wonder if I don't have enough RAM to run it? I did not run time machine before I made the upgrade as I did not realise the significance of an upgrade as not very Mac literate. Any advice on whether my system is in danger... most appreciated! I am writing a book and making a back up but this machine is my lifeline and my work is conducted through it. It ran perfectly before... the Yosemite upgrade has perhaps highlighted some problems and it has unnerved me!
Thanks ever so much for your advice!
    Lillibet

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • My Macbook Air has suddenly become extremely slow and is always crashing?

Hi, I would really appriciate some help right now.
I have had my Macbook Air for a little more than 2 years. It has always worked pretty well. However, recently I went on vacation for 1 week without my laptop. When I returned home and went to turn on my computer, I noticed that it had become extremely slow. Firstly, turning on my computer has become an abnormally long process. It used to take about 2-3 minutes to turn on. Now, it takes a solid 10 minutes. Not only this, but once my computer has finally turned in, it usually takes another 10 minutes before I can open an internet browser. When I click on the browser (I used Google Chrome) no window will pop up, and after a few more clicks, my screen will freeze completely. Sometimes I will get the rainbow wheel and sometimes the screen just completely freezes without it. Sometimes I will try closing the lid of my computer and then reopening it, but when I do this, the screen stays black for a long period of time even after I have reopened it, almost as if the computer is off. After an excessive amount of key smashing and an abnormally large amount of time, the screen will finally stop being in sleep mode and show my desktop. Even then, my computer will still barely work. Once I finally get a window open and start using the internet, google chrome will end up crashing within at least 20 minutes. The entire screen will freeze, I won't be able to scroll down or exit out of the window, and I then usually have to repeat the painful process that I described above when I attempt to open my broswer.
It has been over a week since I returned from vacation, and I deal with these issues every time. My computer has always been fine in the past, why is this suddenly happening?
I have tried to remove some of my applications my going into Finder and highlighting the application and clicking Move to Trash, and then emptying the trash. This hasn't helped at all. Do you think that it would help to delete some of my files and data (pictures, documents, screenshots, downloads, ect) or is this irrevevant?
I would really appricate some help! I am really sick of having to deal with this. I have no idea what is going on or how to fix it, or why this has suddenly happened after a week of being away from my computer.
Thank you so much. If you need any more detail or have any more questions, please ask.

It's likely that the internal drive is failing, or you have some other hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the Lion recovery partition, if present.

  • Where to find the best application for cleaning out my MacBook Air with OS X 10.7.5? I've been using MacKeeper but believe it's slowing down my laptop considerable.

where to find the best application for cleaning out my MacBook Air with OS X 10.7.5? I've been using MacKeeper but believe it's slowing down my laptop considerable. Thank you.

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the Software Update preference pane, you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis. This is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless. Above all, avoid any software that purports to change the look and feel of the user interface.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Use your computer; don't fuss with it.
Safari extensions, and perhaps the equivalent for other web browsers, are a partial exception to the above rule. Most are safe, and they're easy to get rid of if they don't work. Some may cause the browser to crash or otherwise malfunction.  Some are malicious. Use with caution, and install only well-known extensions from relatively trustworthy sources, such as the Safari Extensions Gallery.
Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
    4. Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until sometime in 2011, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. A website that claims you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, is rogue.
In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most people don't.
    5. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem. While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage consumption and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
If storage space is running low, use a tool such as the free application OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move rarely-used large files to secondary storage.
    6. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," "testing the hardware," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

  • I have a macbook air with osx 10.6.8 and it has a 1.4 GHz intel core duo processor and 2GB 1067 Mhz DDR3. I want to use icloud but am afraid buying the version of osx that is required will bog my computer speed down, or change the user inerface. I

I am not computer savy and like my macbook air because as a college student, and father that is very busy, I don't have to learn to re-use it every month after it crashes from a virus. Am I able to load the new version of osx that icloud requires onto this computer without changing it substantially or slowing it down?

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • Yosemite slowing down macbook air performance

Ever since upgrading to yosemite, my 2011 macbook air 11' has been very noticeably sluggish compared to how it was with mavericks. At first i thought it might be from some conflicts from the previous OS, so I did a completely fresh install with yosemite, but it's still dragging and sluggish, especially with any kind of graphics intensive process. I know the air isn't supposed to be a marvel at graphics performance, but I never had these performance issues with mavericks.
Is yosemite just too resource heavy for my macbook air? I wonder if I'd just be better off going back to mavericks. However, if there's some kind of settings I need to adjust, I'd be happy to experiment. I've already tried the 'reduce transparency' trick, but it didn't do much (not that I noticed anyways).

Gatekeeper is described here: OS X: About Gatekeeper  - Apple Support. It is only one defense to protect you from inadvertently installing malware, and an effective defense does not rely upon only one method.
... I can use software that isn't officially "identified" by apple, even though it is trusted.
Apple's philosophy is such that a Mac user with Admin privileges always has control over what he or she installs. As I wrote Gatekeeper will serve to protect you against inadvertently installing malware, including the adware that is affecting your Mac. Adware does not get installed on its own - it requires your explicit permission, which you provided by supplying your Admin name and password. When that dialog appears, it should be expected, not a surprise, and its implications should be clearly understood. By providing your credentials OS X concludes you know what you're doing and the reason you're doing it. Determining the "trusted" aspect of software thereby falls to you.
In your case, by choosing the "anywhere" option you effectively circumvented this basic OS X security feature.
The problem with adware is that it relies upon deception to convince you that it's legitimate software offered for some beneficial purpose, when in fact all it will do is interfere with your normal activity and possibly crash your Mac.
Is there anything I can do to possibly identify which apps may be slowing my system down?
Yes, although you installed quite a number of them. For troubleshooting, read below the line that follows the end of this post.
An EtreCheck report generated on a Mac as it ships from Apple will show no entries under Kernel Extensions, Launch Agents, User Launch Agents, Safari Extensions, 3rd Party Preference Panes, etc. Everything that appears under those headings is there because you installed them. As I wrote it's a user's responsibility to understand the specific benefits they are intended to convey, the effects they will have, and the means of uninstalling them should they result in unacceptable performance - which was your original complaint.
It's also possible that the slowdowns are not caused by software, but given the extent to which your system has been modified, hardware failure is less likely than incompatible or poorly implemented software.
... anything that isn't officially "identified" by apple is adware?
Although OS X incorporates specific prohibitions against installing common malware, they can hardly attempt to classify specific user-installed modifications as adware. The only certain way to do that would be to prevent user-installed system modifications altogether, in the same manner as they do with iOS (iPads and iPhones).
Adware's appearance changes approximately every day. Their pathetic developers are desperate to change its appearance in an effort to continue their deceptive tactics, and a simple change of a file name precludes a reliable automated means of intercepting it. That's the reason it's incumbent upon Mac users to educate themselves about its appearance so that they are not so easily gulled into installing some junk. Gatekeeper merely helps you understand that's what you'd be doing.
Back up your Mac if  you have not already done so. To learn how to to that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.
If your Mac is momentarily unresponsive, consider the following.
Launch the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder. You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu. Select Show Toolbar if it is not already shown.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's problem.
To do that click the Clear Display button in the Toolbar. All previously displayed log entries will be disappear.
Next: Perform whatever actions cause the Mac to exhibit the slow behavior. If the problem is caused by errors logged by the system, the Console window will show them being recorded in system.log.
One or more of them, along with their time stamps, may reveal the reason for the problem you describe.
Copy and paste those log entries in a reply. If hundreds of the same repetitive messages appear, please edit them before posting. There should be no need for more than a few log entries.
Most of the entries will be cryptic but will contain information you might consider personal such as your Mac's name. If you do not want that information to appear, delete or obscure it when posting your reply. Leave enough information so that the entries can be deciphered.

Can you help me? Thank you.

    Hi,
I am having the same problem on my Macbook Pro. I only get the issue at home. I use a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter as well as an external thunderbolt display. I actually bought the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter as a replacement for a non-Apple Sitecom USB 3 to ethernet in order to get rid of the random crashes. It did not help! Here is the report:
