Crash dump size too big (ZFS cache is counted as kernel pages)

Hi,
After a system crash, no crash dump was available: kernel size is 17GB ( ! ) probably because we use ZFS and ZFS cache is counted as kernel pages.
How to do not save ZFS cache in dump ?
Thanks.
Alain.

I checked around with more collegues and the problem of the ZFS ARC that is included in the crashdump is described in BUG ID 4894692 (caching data in heap inflates crash dump).
This BUG is solved in Solaris 10 U4 or in the kernel patch 120011-14.
If you don't want that ZFS ARC inflates the crashdumps, please upgrade to sol10 U4 or upgrade at least to this latest kernel patch ...

Illustrator CC 2014 interface size too big. There is no option to change it. Bug?

But no matter what, there has been some sort of UI font size override introduced in CC2014 that is making the Adobeverse buzz with dissatisfaction. Just out of curiosity, I just checked, and ALL instances of Photoshop are now unable to modify UI font size.... Below is CC2014, which we know about:
And here is CC2013 and CS5.1 exhibiting the SAME behavior:
It's quite clear that ALL copies of Photoshop are now locked into the same "tiny" font setting, regardless of in-app settings.
This is NOT related to Windows display settings (nor SHOULD it be), I can share additional screenshots later to show that, but my boss is getting upset that I have already had to waste this much time doing beta testing that HE is paying for.

  • You Tube Player Size Too Big in Firefox by default

I recently experienced that the You Tube player automatically became large.
The standard size for YouTube videos seems to have changed from their old standard into the size that used to be halfway between normal and fullscreen.
That is WAY too big, and it's actually disgusting to look at with 360p and below videos. The vast majority of videos look like crap when they're stretched out.
There is a new button, "centered player," where the old "large player" button used to be. Clicking on it will center my enormous window, then that button displays "default player," which brings me back to this large, uncentered player.
This is happening with Firefox, with IE working fine.
Although I am technically incompetent I tried a few suggestions:
    Remove all cookies
Hit Ctrl+Shift+K and insert the code below in console:
    document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=; path=/; domain=.youtube.com";window.location.reload();
However, I am getting the following messages:
Use of getAttributeNodeNS() is deprecated. Use getAttributeNS() instead. util-service.jsm:590
Use of getPreventDefault() is deprecated. Use defaultPrevented instead.
And it is not working, back to same Large Player….
Hopefully Mozilla can do something to fix this.
    Thanks!

You said that you removed the cookies. Now

  • Saving animated gif error - canvas size too big?

    Hi,
i have been asked to create an animated gif which has a snow effect in the background. The animation runs pretty well using the pattern style to move the animated snow down. The problem is when I try to export the animation the save for web dialogue window freezes and I can't quit photoshop. I have tried to make the canvas (image size) smaller and it works.
Is there a memory problem with creating animations in Photoshop if the document size is too big, im running a 3000x1000px at 72dpi
TThe animation would be used on a web app, which a script could probably do a better job, but I need to try this first.
    thanks
    lister

Something is very wrong here. The point behind using GIFs is that they are small and OK to put on a Web site.
First thing: forget all about PPI - this has absolutely no relevance to Web/screen images; it is only used for printing. You need to think about the pixel size.
So, how big in pixels are your starting images?
How big do you want the resulting GIF to be? Again, you have to decide in pixels, as the viewing size will depend upon screen resolution of the person looking at it. You can use a notional PPI of 70-100 to guess how big it will be in inches, but that's all it is - a guess.
Is this getting you going in the right direction?
I cannot resist commenting that I hate almost all animated GIFs as they reduce Web site usability so much.

  • Safari Font Size Too BIG

My daughter was on my computer and somehow changed the font size in safari and it is too big.  I've tried the command/shift/- and   and that is not changing the appearance (font is still too big).  Any other suggestions?  All webpages are affected.

Figured it out (thanks prior poster)
Go to Safari Preferences > Advanced.
Then adjust the size of type to display as you like it.
This one is set to 10, but you can up to 24 if you need to.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Media Encoder P2 File Size Too Big for Fat32

    Hi everyone,
I'm working on a project that has to be delivered on an actual P2 card.
I'm on a Mac running 10.9.1 using Media Encoder 7.2.2.29.
My final files are ProRes files and I dropped them into Media Encoder and selected the P2 AVC-Intra 100 1080 option. I set the destination to a local drive and everything seemed to encode properly. I have a CONTENTS folder and all the required subfolders and MXF files. The problem is, when I went to copy the folder to the actual P2 card, Finder told me that some of the files "can't be copied because [they are] too large for the volume's format." And, indeed, looking at several of the video files in the Finder, they seem to max out at 4.29GB (4,294,971,924 bytes), which is 4,629 bytes larger than the FAT-32 size limit.
I just now tried to encode directly to the P2 card and I got an error that was, ostensibly, a "Disk Full" error, but happened at right around where I would expect that 4GB limit to be.
Is this something others have encountered? Is there a setting I missed? According to the P2 workflow PDF here, the folder structure AME creates "can be exported directly to a connected P2 card, or it can be exported to a selected drive and the folders and files copied over to the card."
One possibility might be to split up the files into shorter videos, but I'm not sure how AME would handle ordering on the card.
    Thanks
    David

I wanted to mention, in case anybody else has this issue, installing and using Media Encoder CS6 produces P2 MXF files that are the proper size. I filed a bug report, hopefully Adobe can get the CC version fixed.

  • Files sizes too big when I burn CDs

I am fairly new to itunes and the imac. It seems that file sizes are pretty big when I burn a CD to itunes and are going to take up my ipod nano quickly. For instance, a 10 song CD took up 423 MB. The import settings I have use the AAC Encoder option and the quality is 128 kbps. Should I be using different settings to get the copied song size down? If so, what do you recommend?
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Please double check your import settings as the avg 4 minute song imported in AAC @ 128 should yield an approximate file size of 4mb, for a 10 song disc, 40mb. A total file size of 423mb really sounds like an uncompressed format such a Lossless, or AIFF. Also, verify the format/bitrate by ctrl-click on any song in iTunes, the "get info" . The summary tab at this point will give you the format/bitrate used to import the song. I just imported a 3 disc set tonight by "Genesis" in AAC @ 256kbps, the 40 songs on this set using the above settings only gave a total file size of 438mb.

  • Exported AVI size TOO BIG

I've exported a 35 min. premiere elements 4 project into an DV AVI file that says it's 7.17G in size. When I try to transfer it to my 500 G. external hard drive it says it's too large. Please help me find out why it's too large. I have 417 G open on my external drive.

    Barbie,
Basically, DV-AVI is going to be about 13GB per hour. There's nothing you can do about that. So if you're exporting a 35 minute video, it's going to be about 7GB.
If want smaller files, there are several things you could do:
    * Export portions of the video at a time, e.g. (7) 5-min videos instead of (1) 35-min video
    * Save to compressed file format (WMV, MOV)
    * Archive the project (which creates a separate AVI for each clip)
I think it might help us if you could expand on what it is you're trying to do with the AVI output.
Usually when you're done with a project, you'll create a DVD or a compressed format to be viewed on YouTube or your computer, so explaining why you're exporting such a large DV-AVI might help us brainstorm some ideas for you.
    Regards,
    Ed

  • Component sizes too big

I would like to know if anyone has had this problem before and if they've resolved it.
I'm trying Swing on different platforms and when I got to Mandrake Linux 9.1, All the Swing Components (JButton, JComboBox, JLabel, etc.) seem to have too large a size. There is too much padding around the text on all of the components. I even have this problem testing the SwingSet2 demo. Everything looks more vertical with unecessary space above and below text (on components).
I created a JFrame with a JButton in it and got the following sizes for the button:
    RedHat 9: w:206 h: 25
    Windows 2000 w: 184 h: 26
    Mandrake 9.1 w: 206 h: 34
If you need more information that I haven't thought of providing, please ask.
    Thanks for any assistance!

Well, firstly you have > 60 minutes of video, therefore, you should not use the 60 minute preset. Since you have 80 minutes of video, you're probably better off using the 90 minute preset.
Secondly, the presets assume that you are compressing your audio to AC3 with A.pack or Compressor 2 (depending on which version of DVDSP you're using). Uncompressed audio takes up lots of disc space and bandwidth.
Thirdly, the difference between the measured size in the Finder and the size in DVDSP is the difference between true gigabytes (how the Finder measures things) and billions of bytes (how DVDSP measures things). When you Get Info in the Finder, look at the number following the file size in GB... it's a larger number that's so many billions of bytes. This larger number should agree with the number you see in DVDSP. See the DVD FAQ for a discussion of this issue.

  • Book File Size too big?

I bought a new Sony camera and I went out to do some tests.  I ended up shooting some great images (about 500) of a series that was screaming "BOOK".  So I decided to make my third book using LR4 (the other two were quite good, despite Lightroom's many limitations.)
I imported the RAW files and started playing around with the layout and design.  Before i knew it, I had 189 pages with some 300 photos altogether.  I thought since Lightroom 'allowed' me to do it, then it must be OK, and some threads on the Blurb Forums and FAQs claim that there is no maximum file size.
After I was done after about 30 hours of work, I hit the button SEND TO BLURB and something happened where the whole book disappeared.  Gone.  I didn't know where or how to repair it.  I didn't even know where Lightroom stores its data.   I finally resorted to my Time Machine Back up which took place about an hour earlier, and was able to rescue most of the book except for the last hour.  Anyway, after I was done re-doing all the lost work (I backed up the catalog) and then hit SEND TO BLURB again.
LR started rendering, but hung at about page 125. I restarted about 6 times and LR would hang at different pages of the book.  I tried again this morning, and it finally rendered and started uploading, but I've gotten an Error message four times already after about 2 hours of "uploading" each time.  This has been going on since 11 am this morning (about ten hours ago) and I am very frustrated.  I've chatted with Blurb Support and talked with Adobe support and there was no solution.
I imagine I have to convert all the files and redo the book all over again.  HOWEVER, I would like to know if there is a better workflow to do this the least painfully possible.
IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN CONVERT THE FILES TO EITHER TIFF OR JPEG FROM WITHIN LR?  IF NOT, CAN I DO IT FROM PHOTOSHOP AND GIVE THEM THE SAME EXTENSION AS THE ORIGINAL RAW FILES to fool LR to think they're the same file?  I guess I can try it, but with all the crashing and losing the book the first time, I just want to see if anyone has any clever ideas..
    thanks..

Have you opened the PDF file with Photoshop? If you do, you can then use photoshop to determine page size and dpi...every PDF file I opened was 300dpi which is what you want for Blurb. The page size is what it is, but I guess you could change that page by page in Photoshop (I don't know if you can even open a PDF in LR).
Alternatively, since you have it in PDF format, there are other printers who will accept it - size issues may limit that, but you could probably work it out. For instance if you wanted it for some fairly casual use, the MagCloud site would print it on slightly larger paper than the blurb std portrait for about 1/2 of the price (but with fewer options ...no hard cover etc).
    Hope this helps
    Tom

  • Change CDE size( TOO BIG..???)

My CDE workspace area is greater than the screen. I think it
is very anoting and unprofessional if this is the default.
How can I change the workspace so that is fits
into 14" monitor size like windows. The normal screen size.
How can one set the font to the correct size to fit the screen
size. I have checked the AdminTool or similar and only gets
howto change the font as deafult but is then xsmall(2).
and howto change some other backdrop which is
nothing to do with changing the workspace size to fit
on the screen. The actual windows on the screen I would
like to fit on 80x25 as well according the screen size and
    video.
I have installed my pc as 800x600 standard video.

Sounds as if you've selected the "16color standard VGA
driver with panning @800x600" during system installation.
Stop dtlogin using the "options" menu, start a command
line (text mode) login, login as root and run "kdmconfig".
Configure your video card "Change Video Device/Monitor".
You may have to install the latest X video driver patch
109401 first (maybe 110959, too), so that solaris
    recognizes your video card.

  • File sizes too big

I have two videos to put on a disc. One is 39 minutes long and the other is 41 minutes long. As the total is less than 2 hours, it would seem they should fit onto one DVD. But once I've encoded them with Compressor the total of the m2v and aiff files is 4.71 GB (2.3 & 2.4 respectively), then once imported into DVD SP and laid in the tracks the Disk Meter shows 5.2 GB. And that's without a menu!
I'm editing in FCP and exporting from the timelines to Compressor using the following Preset:
Name: MPEG-2 60min High Quality Encode
    Description: 6.8Mbps,2-Pass VBR,4:3
    File Extension: m2v
    Video Encoder
    Format: M2V

    Pixel aspect ratio: default
    Crop: None
    Frame rate: (100% of source)
    Aspect ratio: 4:3
    Field dominance: Auto detect
    Average data rate: 6.8 (Mbps)
    2 Pass VBR enabled
    Maximum data rate: 7.5 (Mbps)
    High quality
    Best motion estimation
Closed GOP Size: 1/2 second, Structure: IBBP
    DVD Studio Pro meta-data enabled
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Why are my files so big?

  • Mac OS creates huge PDF file - PDF file size too big

    Hi,
I have a 80 K Word file. The file is one page, some text and a 12 KB .jpg file imported in. I then duplicated the jpg graphic 7 times (8 total images).
Here are the resulting sizes when creating PDF's using different methods within Mac OS X print menu:
    Save as PDF 550 KB
    Compress PDF 5.2 MB !!!!
Save as PDF w/ Quartz reduce file size 2.5 MB !!!!
Compress PDF w/ Quartz reduce file size 2.1 MB !!!!

    Canvas X "Save as:PDF" 56 KB
Mac OS print pdf 550 KB
Mac OS print compress PDF 2.5 MB !!!
Can anyone explain what is going on??? I can make the file available if you with to play with it.

So, here I was touting the ease of use and she goes and finds a way to turn a 60 kB Word file into this monstrosity. So, the point is to avoid "extra steps" and additional software (which I eventually had to do anyway with Canvas X).
I just don't understand how the Mac OS X PDF maker can take a 60 kB Word document and turn it into a 5 MB behemoth... and this is when set to compress the PDF!
I mean, a 5 MB jpeg is about 40-50 MB uncompressed which, for an 8.5x11" page is 300 dpi at 16 bit RGB color, 400 dpi 8 bit color.
I've just never come accross anything like this and am totally clueless what is going on.
    Thanks for any insights.
