Crash during encode

I had to reformat my hard drive over the weekend and reinstall software. I purchased a turnkey system from a supplier that is now out of business. Fortunately he created a "Rebuild Disk" which I used to reformat. (Reason for reformat -- I was experiencing sluggishness and had a problem with Roxio Easy CD/DVD 6.0.) I had to problems with Adobe.
I edited a 8 minute test show in PPro 1.5, rendered and exported an AVI. Next I imported the AVI into Encore 1.5 as a timeline and set up a simple menu with buttons. As usual, I let Encore do the transcoding. I selected a 7mb default VBR 2-pass transcode. Before burning, I "checked" the project in the Disc tab. Everything was alright. After transcoding for about 10 to 15 minutes, my computer shut down...completely. This has happened twice.
After reformatting, I didn't install any software that wasn't on my system prior. One exception -- I installed Windows SP 2 (then installed AfterEFX 6.5, PPro 1.5, Audition 1.5 & Encore 1.5, PhotoShop CS. Before I was using SP 1.
Any thoughts?
MY SYSTEM:
Windows XP Pro, SP 2
3.2 Ghz processor
2 GIG RAM

Ruud, you are exactly right. I took the side panel off my computer and found one fan that's completely out. Another fan is on its way out. So I placed a table top fan beside the box so that it blew directly inside my computer and tried transcoding again. It worked! I just burned a disk containing two video presentations of 5 and 8 minutes. The transcoding and burning took about one hour.
Thanks for your suggestion.

  • Premiere Pro / Media Encoder crash during encoding

Afternoon guys, wonder if anyone has any tips on how to solve my issue. It's a new pc that I'm working on, my first project on it, everything working great in terms of the edit, but crashing whilst encoding both through Premiere Pro and Media Encoder with an error message (below). I'm not great with this stuff so please let me know if I need to provide more info and I'll provide much information as I can.
    I'm a creative cloud user.
-Premiere Pro cs 6 (6.0.3) - I have tried to re-install the software, and ran all the updates yesterday after the install. Problem still persists.
    -Encoder cs6 (6.0.3.1)
-Windows 7 Professional service pack 1, 64bit. Whilst I was online re-installing Premiere Pro windows did some updates (I generally keep my editing pc's offline).
-DSLR footage (.mov) for video, up to 3 sources of video (nested for multicam shoot) and running one source of audio (mp3 file). Two of the timelines I'm trying to encode are about 45 minutes long.. I have succesfully encoded other clips (a 5 minute, and a 35 minute previously. Miraculously this morning I encoded a 1h12m clip using the mpeg2-dvd preset with only adjustment of quality bumped from 4 to 5). So this was encoded after all the updates, however since then everything else is not working.
-Initially encoder was either freezing, or giving me an error message. Since re-installing all the software yesterday it now does not freeze, but I get the error message: "Adobe Media Encoder CS6.0 has stopped working... A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I get the same message when encoding with both AME and Premiere Pro.  I click "close" from here and nothing else happens.
-Trying to export to mpeg2-dvd, I have tried the PAL widescreen preset, as well as trying to adjust the settings, doesn't seem to make a difference, the error message pops up different points during encoding.
-The only plugin I have used is magic bullet looks for some grading. It also fails to encode with no plugins used.
    -PC     - Intel i7-3770 @ 3.40ghz,
              - 32GB ram
              - Operating system and Adobe Suite on c: (SSD 240gb)
              - Project source footage (video, audio, etc) f: (2tb)
              - Encoding files to e: (SSD 240gb)
              - my case is an Antec 902, with no additional fans. It does sound like it's working harder during encoding, not sure if a heat issue could be causing the software to error?
-I am using the mercury playback engine with a Gefore gtx 680 (2gb).
I have not been able to find any definitive answeres with regard to the crashes. I did also have encoder hanging whilst reading the xmp file. I have tried encoding video only (audio disabled) and whilst it doesn't hang during reading of xmp file, it still stops working with the above error message.
I also run an older PC with i920, 24gig, gtx570 and it never crashes but performs much slower. It is also running windows 7, same setup but different hardware. Not sure if the hardware on my new pc could be causing the issues, if you you guys have any troubleshooting tips it would be much appreciated. At this point i have tried starting a new project, new timelines, nothing seems to work, so I have transferred the data to my old pc for encoding (as I need to deliver the discs to a client), but I need to get this new setup working properly.
    Cheers,
    Stevan

    Hi Axel,
Thanks for your suggestions, I just tried cleaning out the media cache and also rendered out a wav file of the audio and placed it in the timeline and deleted the mp3 version.. Tried once again to encode an mpeg2-dvd file.
1st attempt encoding through Media Encoder, pal widescreen with variable bit rate set to 6, 7 and 8 = everything froze, had to restart via button.
2nd attempt encoding through Media Encoder = this time tried video only same settings just no audio = same error (Adobe Media Encoder cs6.0 has stopped working...)
3rd attempt encoding through Premiere Pro, same settings with audio = same error message.
4th attempt encoding through Media Encoder, pal wide preset as standard with no change = same error message.
5th attempt encoding through Media Encoder, h264 preset for vimeo, 720p = same error message.
6th attempt encoding through Media Encoder, AVI (Uncompressed) 720 x 480 preset. 1m40s in the dreaded blue screen appeared. "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval. " Bla bla bla.
In all instances the encoding is absolutely flying, but always ends up crashing.

  • IDVD crashes during encoding

I have been trying to burn a dvd of videos I put together in Final Cut Express. The lenght is 1 hour and 32 minutes. I have tried different lenghts... 1:25 , 1:43 and it made no diff.
The problem occurs around 2 hours into encoding. idvd crashes and says it unexpectedly closed. initially it indicated it would take 4 to 5 hours to burn.
I posted a question on FCE forum as well hoping someone with Final cut exp knows something.
    My question is this:
What is the max video lenght idvd burns at the highest professional encode setting?
How much free disk space do I need to have free on my hard drive to be able to burn a long video like that? I have 25 gigs free.
I have tried to save as disk image, with the image being saved on the external drive so there would be no issue with how much room I have left on the HD, and IT made no diff.
I started a new project and again no diff.
I am in the porocess of burning a smaller clip around 30 minutes so I will see if there is a problem with a shorter clip.
I burned a 2 minutes video and it worked ok.
The file I am using is a quicktime movie file exported using Final cut exp (not self-contained) so it is just a reference file with the actual video on 2 external firewire drives daisy-chained together.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I got it to work after several attempts. Thanks to tips from the apple discussions forum under Final cut express.
The footage I had were nested sequences and it needed to be exported to quicktime movie Self-Contained.
The self contained 71gb and iDVD worked with 25gigs free on my system hard drive.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Premire Pro CC 2014 and Media Encoder Crash During Launch

Premire Pro and Media Encoder crash during startup and are unusable. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate and already tried reinstalling Adobe Creative Cloud from scratch and it's still happening. I also tried following Adobes KB articles directions to rename the Adobe folder in my documents and appdata to no avail. When I try to launch either application, I get a generic windows crash message "Adobe Premire Pro CC 2014.0 has stopped working" and when I click problem details, it lists this:
    Problem signature:

I am having a similar problem.
Premiere Pro CC 2014 suddenly decided to crash every time I export to either Adobe Media Encoder or within Premiere itself.
The encode will usually go for 5-10 minutes before the programs either spits out a "serious error has occurred" window, or it just sits there frozen until I force quit.
I did find a work-around for the moment. If I open AME and FILE > OPEN, select my project and then the sequence I want, AND put it in Software render mode, it will work.
My timeline is 2K, 58 minutes in 23.976
Only effects applied are Lumetri LUTs - no third party.
I've exported as recently as a week ago without issue.
Running OSX 9.5 on an X99 board
    3.75 GHz 8-core
    64GB 2400 MHz RAM
    EVGA Titan Black 6GB
Because I can get my renders out, I am not too concerned. Either there is something wonky with my timeline that screws with any graphics enabled rendering, or there is a bug that is have the same effect. I will try rendering on another of my edit bays that utilizes a GTX 580 that I KNOW works. The Titan is pretty new to my workflow.
Thanks Adobe, for checking this out.

  • CS5 apps crash during launch in XP

    Hi,
I just bought and installed CS5 Design Premium and can't get it to work, including Photoshop.  Most of the apps crash.  They crash during launch (splash screen) and therefore never get going.  Each app seems to display different error messages.  One common denominator seems to be something relating to scripting (not sure what that implies - plug-ins?).  The only CS5 apps that don't crash are Bridge and Media Encoder.
Upgrading to 12.01 didn't help.  I tried rebooting, uninstalling and re-installing.  I ran a system scan with Windows Defender and no malicious software was detected.  I run a very clean system so no unusual programs running in the background and what little I do run in the background, I exited from.  I hadn't run a previous version of Photoshop (or any other program in CS5) so there were no Photoshop plug-ins to uninstall.
I do have Lightroom 3 installed (huge image database), which I have not yet uninstalled (far from trivial IMHO).  Lightroom does have three plug-ins (all disabled) which are the Canon and Nikon Tether Plug-ins and a Flickr plug-in.  I don't know how to uninstall these or whether it would affect CS5.
As an example, when I launch Photoshop, I get the following error:
    AppName: photoshop.exe     AppVer: 12.0.1.0     ModName: scriptingsupport.8li ModVer: 10.0.0.0     Offset: 000d183a
InDesign fails as it says "updating Panels" and I get:
AppName: indesign.exe     AppVer: 7.0.0.355     ModName: support for javascript.rpln
    ModVer: 7.0.0.355     Offset: 00036183
    System Specs:
    3.4GHz P4, 4GB PC6400, 1.5TB SATA, Nvidia GeForce 6600 PCIe, Asus P5WD2-e Motherboard, XP Pro SP2
    I run Flash 10.1.53.64 and Quicktime 7.6.6, Java 6.0.2
When I launch Illustrator, it used to crash hard but now it stops while loading (Initializing Plug-ins, PDFFormat.aip) and displays a custom error dialog saying "Error loading plugins.  AISaveForWeb.aip DxfDwg.aip PGNFileFormat.aip.  Eventually it launches, apparently functional (haven't tested it).
    Any help appreciated, thanks!

Corporate users are often very conservative, as many needs must be met before a new system can be rolled-out.  The reasons for being so conservative are rooted in good business, and in many cases are quite justifiable.
I have a friend who works IT at a railroad company, and he regularly has to support Windows 2000 machines amongst the majority of their systems, which are XP.  He tells me what he and a whole team of people struggle with every day.  I've been there.  I administered systems for entire Engineering departments myself.  One of the things I ALWAYS made time for, however, was breaking in new systems and getting to know them.  As a result, our people always had near state-of-the-art systems to work with.  It was even a selling point when our managers interviewed someone sharp who they were trying to get to accept an offer:  Our work environment was second to none.
In recent times we are starting to see why staying with an ancient operating system instead of "biting the bullet" and moving up to modern technology is proving to be more and more expensive.
Brushing aside Vista - for a while - might have been justifiable, but...
Hours and hours to make something work on XP?  New roll-outs of XP systems?  In 2010?  Are you kidding?
All that time being wasted to get old things working could and should be spent on embracing the new, and figuring out how to make it sing on key.  People have now gone before you and can authoritatively state that Windows 7 can be made to work.  A darned sight better than its predecessors in many ways!
    Time is money.

  • Jspx page "Designer" crashes during initialization

I've tried the given solution and it works.
I don't want to use an external jdk, because i could have some jdk version problems.
On 3 other computers Jdeveloper 11g works fine.
Just download form oracle.com unzip, run jdeveloper.exe and start working working.
No need to change the JDK.

  • QT Player 7.0.2 crashes when encoding from MJPEG into H.264

Another interesting thing about QT 7.0.2 (first one was 10GB bug, check my earlier thread here) - it crashes when the user switches to another account and back while the QT Player encodes MJPEG video into H.264. How to reproduce this bug, step by step:
    1) open any MJPEG video in QT Player 7.0.2, could be in MOV or in AVI, doesn't make difference which
    2) do File->Export
    3) choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie" in the "Export" drop-down menu
    4) in the "Save exported file as" dialog go to Options->Video->Settings and set H.264 as your output video codec, encoding settings don't make a difference as well
    5) close "Movie settings" dialog, then click "Save" in "Save exported file as" dialog
    6) QT Player starts encoding your MJPEG video into H.264 video, the small "Progress" window appears with a progress bar inside
    7) now switch to another user account using Fast User Switching feature of Windows XP
    8) switch back to the account where QT Player was encoding your MJPEG video
    9) observe the crash window - your QT Player has joined his ancestors now
Can anyone reproduce this? If yes, please post your crash dump here, so that I can send another bugreport to Apple (10GB bugreport is in the works now, almost done
If you follow all the steps above and your QT Player does NOT crash, please post the details about your system. My setup is QT Player Pro 7.0.2 and Windows XP Pro SP2. Also post the details about your MJPEG file - the codec you used to encode it (mine two codecs were Pegasus PicVideo 3 and Apple Motion JPEG A), and the resolution (mine was 720x480).

when i said i couldn't do audio and video at the same time i meant that i cannot edit and process video and at the same time record or edit ADR, sound effects. i have an audio engineer in the audio room working on the audio while i work on the video. is that clear?
Yeah, now it sounds reasonable. You possibly could do that on a single computer using X Windows or Windows Terminal Server but it's totally different topic.
as for fast user switching...here's a comment from another forum... "just don't use fast user switching, it isn't implemented well and it breaks some programs"
"Don't use Windows, it isn't implemented well and doesn't run some poorly written MS-DOS games"
I found several others in that regard, but you know more about it so i don't need to post links, right? plus a lot of them dealt with quicktime, but again you are the expert.
If you found anything that's related to QuickTime crashes during account switching, you're welcome to post this concrete info here, it'll help with my bugreport.
and since you make the inference that i have a cheap system operating on ms-dos which is laughable because that means that you can't read.
I said that when I read about single-task computers this reminds me about MS-DOS times, but now it looks like it is not about your case, since you have two people working in parallel on two machines.
i looked up on Yahoo! the terms "mjpeg"+"crashes" and got 16,800 hits. plus i do recall on another forum someone was having problems with mjpeg and the responder said it wasn't a good codec to work with...
So what's the deal if 95% of these 16800 Yahoo posts are about crash in Premiere or Microsoft Movie Maker or some other buggy tool? You could even search for an f-word, and you'll find a lot of posts with that word, then you can make any conclusion you like about that word being so often cited and then we could start a lengthy discussion about it, but what's the point? I can find 10000 posts about "single task" + "bad" but I'd never use this to justify anything. I give you concrete facts from my experience, so please give me something concrete in return, not 16800 Yahoo posts about something out there.
"Disadvantages: There's also the problem of recompression. While the human eye can be fooled by JPEG's compression, computers aren't. Thus, when you compress from MJPEG into another format to use for distribution, you will receive a lower-quality picture than if you had a lossless source because there is data missing which, while it's not important to the visual cortex, is very important to a mathematical analysis of things such as color data. The only time you should use MJPEG otherwise is for fast-editing temporary files, but DON'T use them as your final source."
I know that already, thank you.
since you said i'm the one who suggested that you use uncompressed video and that doing so the computer doesn't crash...
You suggested that in a different thread about 10GB MJPEG limitation. That's another bug that may be or may be not related to the crash problem.
then why don't you work that way and finish your video?
Yes, I can employ this trick. I will do it if I'm forced to (i.e. if I absolutely have no other way to load MJPEG in QT Player and Apple refuses to fix that crash). However, I'll push Apple with fixing the issue at the same time. Maybe they'll work something out while I'm using uncompressed RGB workaround or some other workaround.
mjpeg is unstable in that regard so contact the codec manufacturer/developer and ask them why or give them the bug report because it's not apple
Unfortunately it is Apple, because it's the Apple's software that crashes. All the other codecs and video editors work fine, and there are even conditions when Apple doesn't crash, like loading uncompressed RGB. Since crash is inside QuickTime I will send my bugreport to Apple. If the crash had happened inside the MJPEG codec, I'd have sent the bugreport to

  • IDVD crashing upon encoding assets

    Hi,
I have scanned all sorts of forums and have not been able to find the answer needed to fix the following problem. During burning a DVD, iDVD crashes when it encodes assets.
I have 50GB left on my HD, did permissions repair, rebooting computer, changing quality settings, deleted the iDVD plist file and nothing works. I have tried burning to DMG, and Video_TS file. Same goes. Some of my assets on the film are HD, but this never stopped it from burning before.
Can anyone give me any advice or share a solution to this problem?
    Thanks,
    M

    Hi Bengt,
You bring up a good point. The project was shot in XDCAM 25fps. After postproduction, the file became APRHQ. Due to the weight of the file on export (about 5 GB), I decided to export it through Quicktime conversion as NTSC SD Widescreen. The video weighed about 1.06 GB, so I decided to use it.
I looked at when it quit during the encoding process (during encoding another asset), so I saved that as a last reserve option.
The DVD burned with the original APRHQ file, but now the question: Why would it not accept the QT converted SD export?
    Best,
    M

  • GoPro Cineform files cause Premiere to crash during Media Export

I first  noticed this problem when using a project that had been copied and transcoded with GoPro codec as demonstrated in Dave Henly's helpful video.  The codec is indeed beautiful.
However, 50% to 80% of the time when trying to export a project where there are GoPro files on the timeline, it'll get about halfway through the export before Premiere (or Media Encoder) simply freezes up.
I didn't know what was causing this problem until I was  using one large GoPro-exported video as the new base layer for a project that had otherwise been working perfectly prior to that (using Canon 60D-created .mov files).  Now it was crashing during every export.  On a hunch, I re-exported that base layer as an h264 file and replaced the GoPro video on the timeline, and now the project exports out just fine.
Is this happening to anyone else?  I'm using just the standard 8bit GoPro preset whenever I export out or transcode clips.
I'm using Premiere Pro CC, whatever the up-to-date version number is right now.
    Windows 8.
    24 gb RAM.
    GeForce Titan Black
    Intel Core i7

    Similar problem.
The new feature rendering a ae comp inside premiere timeline is perfect, but using gopro cineform codec crashes premiere on export.

  • Freeze/Crash during MP3 conversion

I've been using iTunes to convert WAVs to MP3s for file size reasons. In the last week, iTunes has become temperamental and nearly always freezes/crashes during the conversion process. I have tried reinstalling. Is there something I overlooked?
    Note: I am converting to 320kbps @ 44.100 kHz MP3s.

I don't know why it's crashing as I avoid using iTunes for encoding anything.
There are a few audio conversion programmes about, have a quick google, you'll hit gold in no time.

  • Idvd crashing during burn

Never had a problem burning before, but now the iDVD version 7.1.2 keeps crashing during a burn. I've deleted encoded assets, shortened my menu, re-started, and even re-created the idvd project. Same error. I am using iMovie 09 to create because I like it better. I am afraid to update anything on this Mac for fear of screwing up my projects. I have A LOT of them. But am only trying a small burn first. It's a 22 minute project with several projects put together as a slide show. What do I do? HELP!! This is the short version of the error message, it goes on forever.

    Hi
    Can be many things.
    A. Free Space on Start-Up Main Hard Disk ? (others of no interest)
    B. Did You - Save as a DiskImage - first ? Did it play OK ?
    C. Your Movie-project - What material was used
    - Video Codecs (for all individual cilps - each at a time)
    - AUDIO file format - all audio - What was used ? - I ONLY use .aiff 16-bit 44.1kHz or 48kHz - ALL OTHER I convert to this - especially from iTunes, .mp3, .wma etc. All of them => .aiff
    - Photo file formats - I only use .jpg - no .bmp, .tif, .psd etc
    D. Did You try to start a - BRAND NEW iDVD project ? I always do.
    E. Trouble shooting actions as:
    - Repair Permissions
    - Trash pref files
    - ev. start a new user account and log into ths and re-try
Just to start - You see there are lot's that can go wrong.

  • AME CS4 crashes during launch

I've been using AME CS4 (4.2.0.006) with Premiere Pro CS4 onWindows XP for years, but now it always crashes during launch: "AppName: adobe media encoder.exe  AppVer: 4.2.0.0  ModName: watchfolder.dll  ModVer: 0.0.0.0  Offset: 00011f03"). I de-installed and re-installed Premiere with no result. Downloaded latest AME CS4 version. Didn't move watchfolder.dll. Deleted any "AMEPrefs.xml"-file. Any ideas?

Possibly the same problem as this?

  • DVDSP crashes on encode-help!

Encoding my latest DVD has crashed on encode and build 5 times in a row now. I've never ever had this happen before. I've tried rebuilding form scratch and it still crashes. DVDSP has always been the one program in the suite that I could count on when I was up against a deadline.

"Encode" is the first step if you've placed any non-MPEG2 videos into the project. It needs to encode things to MPEG2 first. Motion templates for menus also need to be encoded.
"Build" is the next step: all the components are assembled, menus are linked, audio and video are multiplexed together ("muxed"), and the VIDEO_TS folder is created. You can build the project and test the resulting VIDEO_TS folder without going to the next step.
"Format" takes the built project and outputs it onto some kind of external media: a DVD-R, DVD+R DL, a DLT tape, etc.
So yes, depending on when in this process it's crashing will help to determine what's wrong. If it's crashing during formatting, it could be a problem with the device you're writing to, or the disc you're using. If it crashes during a build, then it could be a corrupted asset (try building a simple project, or the tutorial, to see if DVDSP is capable of building anything... if so then maybe it's a problem with a menu graphic or video).
It's certainly possible that something in your overall system software got screwed up, and you may need to reinstall the system. Obviously, with a clean OS install, and a clean install of DVDSP, it should not crash... if it does, then it's a hardware problem.
