Crash during firmware upgrd

I've just been performing software updates to my Mac. When I restarted my machine to update the Firmware software my machine crashed. When I try to do a restart all I get is a blank screen. Can anyone give some ideas of what to do?

Try booting from Install DVD 1 that came with your MBP - does that work?
Do you know/recall which updates were being applied? That would help...

  • Crash during firmware update

I just tried to update my iPod Shuffle. I ran iPod Updater, it said "Update needed" and I clicked update button. In the middle of the update, Windows crashed and the iPod seems to be dead now. It isn't recognized by Windows anymore and iPod updater just says "Plug in the iPod for update" and when I plug it in, nothing happens. Even when I press the battery button, nothing happens (and I'm sure the battery isn't empty becasue before the incident, when I pressed the battery button, it was showing green). I tried everything: reseting the iPod, restarting computer, reinstalling software and nothing is helping.
I suspect that the firmware of the device got fried during the update procedure (since the update was aborted halfway because of crash). Is there any way to revive the device (reflashing the firmware somehow) than taking it to service?

My problem is the same.. If i connect my ipod shuffle on the USB port(s) my PC can't recognize it and in "My Computer" folder there is new device called "Removible Disk (F:)" but I can't open or format it.. I hope in a fast solution, 'cause i can't live without music! :P

  • N96 crash during firmware upgrade & unrecoverable

Finally Nokia sent me a text to say that a firmware upgrade - from 10 to 11 was available. I've tried to install it after first backing up the phone. During upgrade where the upgrade software continually referred to connection problems (while the Nokia PC Suit showed the connection to be in place) with about 5 minutes of remaining installation time the installer gave up. It asked me to turn off the phone and reconnect which I did. The installer could not recover the installation. I now have a phone that will turn on but just has a blank screen and PC Suit won't recognise it so I can't restore from the backup.
Any ideas? Does my second N96 have to be sent back to Nokia?
This is all becoming rather silly...

B4 you update I found this improves the way it works
before you connect phone by USB
Plug in charger and leave in (make sure its turned on at the wall socket)
1st switch to line 1 if you have 2 lines
    set profile on genral
    turn off password on boot
    turn OFF pincode request
    turn OFF fixed dial
IF you have Lights ON installed uninstall it (you can put it back after)
if You have any other prog that RUNS all the time Like Lights ON unistall that too. (eg rotate me on N95)
    TURN OFF PHONE
    remove SD card
TURN ON PHONE to get a clean boot with nothing running in background
now make sure you connect in PC suite mode when you plug in USB
run P C suite click on Spanner TOOLS
    go down to software update
NOW WAIT if it says there is a new version or it loads new drivers
there are 5 or 6 cable drivers that it MUST load before it starts it only does that once the 1st time
    Now all will go well
most of the crashes are caused by either a prog running on the phone or the pin or password being set and the phone cant reboot or a flat battery

  • New Zen 8GB crashed during firmware update; now I can't get it to reboot or connect to a compu

I went and exchanged my "problematic white screen" ZEN 8GB for a new one this evening. When I came home, I attached the new unit to my computer and started to perform the required firmware upgrades. The upgrades downloaded fine, but after the installation started, they seemed to freeze. I waited for an hour before I did anything, but finally had to assume that the update had malfunctioned and would never finish on its own. At that point I clicked "cancel" in the window monitoring the upgrade installation, and thought I could just start the process anew. Unfortunately, my computer no longer recognizes the ZEN when it's plugged into a USB port.
I rebooted my computer, just in case that was the problem, but it still can't find the ZEN when searching for devices to AutoUpdate. As for the Zen itself, I can turn it on and off, but the screen remains black (i.e., no info on screen). If I reset it, the screen flashes the word "Creative" only. If I try to do a Recovery, I can't get any text to appear on the screen. I can't even reformat the ZEN via my computer because they're no longer speaking. I assume that the interrupted firmware installation caused this problem, and that the ZEN just doesn't have enough of an operating system installed to work properly. Is there any fix for this that I can tackle myself Or, is it back to the store to return this one, too I have noticed a lot of white screen flashings as I've been working with the new ZEN, so perhaps this just wasn't meant to be. Any words of advice are certainly appreciated, however.

Same happened to me and I only had the thing a few hours. I may leave it connected overnight to see if the battery needs charging but if nothing happens it's going back. I've tried plenty of suggestions. The Creative screen flashes on when I plug it in but then just sits there. Reseting does nothing and how can you do anything to it if it's not recognised by the PC. Vista did see it before the update attempt. Wondered whether to throw XP back on.
Do I have to resort to the new ipod Nano
OK I've done it. Somewhere on this forum it said to disconnect the Zen from the PC.
Now at the same time, press and hold the play/pause button, put a pin into the reset button and hold down the on/off switch (yes all 3 in that order at the same time). Recovery mode came on and I tried to uninstall the firmware update from previously - it didn't do it but I updated the latest firmware again anyway and this time it worked. I guess the last attempt didn't take.

I have continuously over the last 6 months struggled with syncing my iphone and ipod with itunes  The app continually crashes during the picture import.  AND by the way it takes 10-15 minutes before it even attempts to import photos.  The screen says importing photoes but doesnt try to optimize or anything for 10 minutes.  I have a 3gs with 16Gb so its not a cheap phone.  I have 10Gb free.  I have 6600 photoes.  This is very frustrating and undermines my confidence in your products.  My ipod is an ipod 4 with 16Gb also.  It does the exact same thing to it.  The last time, I had to import photoes a few at the time and with it taking 10-15 minutes each time for 6600 photos it is a long frustrating process.  But it will import every photo a few at a time.  The error message is just that itunes has stopped working.  no hint as to why. AND of course, my phone is out of use for the entire time.  You guys must not want to believe ur phones are a necessary tool...or maybe you dont want the consumer to believe it is.  I have tried to find solutions on your website as well as through other 3rd party communities.  Ultimately they were of no use.  I stumbled onto my solution by accident since Im a bit of a computer geek...a semi-geek.

I have this issue too, I went into my Windows event viewer. (should have looked at this a year ago when this started)
    it said this
Faulting application name: iTunes.exe, version: 11.0.2.26, time stamp: 0x51253247

basically whenever I try to sync my ipod touch 4G 64GB it crashes iTunes when it begins the pictures. if im lucky ill get 4-5 on there before it stops responding. its not my system or anything im running win7x64 8GB DDR3 ram (Corsair XMS3) AMD FX Eight core processor.
It is silly that iTunes cannot add pictures to apple devices. it shatters whatever incline I may have to buy apple products. knda like the Airport Extreem router my dad bought the new firmware, caused my router to not function... why release firmware that breaks a product. -_- <-- off topic but still

  • 2 month old iMac, crashes during boot

Yesterday I received an automatic software update. Today it crashes during boot up. This is what I see:
panic (cpu 0 caller 0x003AA827) Unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI"
Debugger called: <panic> .... then it spits out a bunch of hex codes...
    Darwin Kernel 8.9.1
    Sigh...

The two hardware issues that come to mind are loose or unseated ram module(s) and resetting the SMC. There have been quite a few folks reporting an issue with a unseated ram module that reinstalling fixed.

  • Zen Touch crashes during file trans

My Creative Zen Touch already crashed twice during file trasfer with Zen Touch Media Explorer. What should I do?

I have had exactly the same problem. My zen has crashed, or both my pc and zen have crashed during file transfer. I have formatted my zen, re installed firmware and ran clean up too. I have tried my zen on another computer and the same thing happened. I have all the up to date drivers and programs. I cannot work out what the problem is at all, other than there are physical errors on my zen. I have only had it for about a year too. I just hope this can be sorted because I know exactly how annoying it is for an expensi've product to throw up problems.

  • I updated my ipod and my computer crashed during the update now the apps that come with the ipod such as the app store and itunes are not on my ipod how do i fix this

i updated my ipod and my computer crashed during the update now the apps that come with the ipod such as the app store and itunes are not on my ipod how do i fix this

Connect your iPod to any computer with iTunes installed, highlight your device and try syncing the apps only. If it doesn't work might have to restore through iTunes. With the new iTunes and iCloud beta, you can have the iTunes list what apps are missing on your device but if you had previously purchased in the past and then have iTunes install them. You should always get in the habit of backing up your iPhone whenever you do any firmware/OS updating/upgrading or transferring over to new device. I really really really really hope you can get back at least some of your old info. I will tell you this, I have been kicking myself in the butt for not routinely backing up my iPhone when my beautiful special iPhone 4 came up missing and had to revert back to my 3GS. iPhone 5 will be released in a few months so I am holding off on purchasing a new iPhone til then, not that I did so without reservation and a little bit of iPhone 4 withdraw.

  • ITunes Match crashes during 3rd step when uploading songs to the iCloud

    Hello There,
I have just one issue with iTunes Match which causes me to be slightly skeptical, although it is such an amazing way to listen to music ect.
I have about 15000 songs and most of them were added on the iCloud, however only around 200 still needed to be added manually on the iCloud. The issue appears right after the second step where the songs starts uploading. All of a sudden iTunes just crashes and asks me to close the program.
Just to add I am using a dell desktop PC with windows 7, and everything is up to date including latest updates of the iTunes.
What can I do to sort this issue out, so the rest of my music can be added to the iCloud without having iTunes to crash during uploads?

    hi,
    See this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4914
I have read elsewhere that some people have used match with XP successfully but they were having more and more problems with each upgrade of iTunes.
Have you tried removing the tracks that are still waiting to be matched or uploaded. There may a track that is causing the problem. Once you have removed outstanding track update imatch. If this works, gradually add the tracks back a few at a time.

  • How can i fix my mac book pro. My safari crashes all the time, my screen will turn black for no reason, My iPhoto crashes during upload from my iPhone, I can't highlight anything and I can't drag anything.

Someone PLEASE help me! I cant figure out what is going on with my computer.  I don't install anything weird, but my brother does.  He's very good at computer tech stuff and is in I.T, but I cant help but blame him for all the problems my Mac is having.  Nothing works like it should.  My safari will randomally crash, my screen will randomally turn back, my iphoto will crash during uploading from my iPhone, I cant highlight anything, I can't drag anything.  When I want to click on something, I have to click over and over again just for it to even register.  I know everything is up to date and recently reset my PRAM.  I'm running Lion and have a lot of room on my hardrive.  I have an external harddrive and I'm wondering if I should just move all of my important files over to it and completly wipe out my computer's hardrive and start from scratch.

Some folks can't leave well enough alone, and insist on downloading all sorts of additional "stuff" that ends up making their Mac unstable.
Standard Mac OS X on properly-operating Hardware does not crash, unless you start installing too many add-ons.
You can run "just the basics" by holding down the Shift key at Startup. This does one pass of Disk Repair, then loads a minimal set of extensions, and comes up in Safe Mode. If it works OK that way, but crashes in "regular", it's the add-ons.
There ia another layer of add-on junk that can be added to Safari. If the only remaining problem is Safari crashing, those add-ons can be disabled as well.

  • ITunes crashed during transfer purchases now says This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device

The problem that have started when I was going to sync my iPhone 4 with current iTunes running on 64bit Windows 7.
I started iTunes and plugged in my iPhone.
All looked good and the iPhone came up as the device as it should have.
Next I wanted to transfer purchases prior to syncing so I started the Transfer Purchases process.
iTunes stopped working during the Transfer Purchases process
Now when I plug in my iPhone iTunes takes me to the “setup your iPhone” screen and displays “This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device” and only allows me to restore and old backup or setup as new.
Obviously some files were not closed properly when iTunes crashed during the transfer purchases process, how can I cleanup iTunes so that it will allow me to backup and sync my phone.
I am a software developer and am sure that a fix is not in the menu options   What I am saying is that I can easily remove or edit corrupt files to get it working.
    Thanks, Mike

The error message you're seeing is likely the other way around -- i.e. something like "This iPhone has previously been synced with a different computer".   There's no problem syncing multiple iOS devices to the same computer.
However, the reverse is not true for the iPhone --  you cannot connect an iPhone to another computer without it being erased, even if you manually manage music and video.  So, it sounds like you've been syncing your iPhone to a different computer?
Also, 5.1 (not 5.0.1) is the latest iOS.

  • CS5 apps crash during launch in XP

    Hi,
I just bought and installed CS5 Design Premium and can't get it to work, including Photoshop.  Most of the apps crash.  They crash during launch (splash screen) and therefore never get going.  Each app seems to display different error messages.  One common denominator seems to be something relating to scripting (not sure what that implies - plug-ins?).  The only CS5 apps that don't crash are Bridge and Media Encoder.
Upgrading to 12.01 didn't help.  I tried rebooting, uninstalling and re-installing.  I ran a system scan with Windows Defender and no malicious software was detected.  I run a very clean system so no unusual programs running in the background and what little I do run in the background, I exited from.  I hadn't run a previous version of Photoshop (or any other program in CS5) so there were no Photoshop plug-ins to uninstall.
I do have Lightroom 3 installed (huge image database), which I have not yet uninstalled (far from trivial IMHO).  Lightroom does have three plug-ins (all disabled) which are the Canon and Nikon Tether Plug-ins and a Flickr plug-in.  I don't know how to uninstall these or whether it would affect CS5.
As an example, when I launch Photoshop, I get the following error:
    AppName: photoshop.exe     AppVer: 12.0.1.0     ModName: scriptingsupport.8li ModVer: 10.0.0.0     Offset: 000d183a
InDesign fails as it says "updating Panels" and I get:
AppName: indesign.exe     AppVer: 7.0.0.355     ModName: support for javascript.rpln
    ModVer: 7.0.0.355     Offset: 00036183
    System Specs:
    3.4GHz P4, 4GB PC6400, 1.5TB SATA, Nvidia GeForce 6600 PCIe, Asus P5WD2-e Motherboard, XP Pro SP2
    I run Flash 10.1.53.64 and Quicktime 7.6.6, Java 6.0.2
When I launch Illustrator, it used to crash hard but now it stops while loading (Initializing Plug-ins, PDFFormat.aip) and displays a custom error dialog saying "Error loading plugins.  AISaveForWeb.aip DxfDwg.aip PGNFileFormat.aip.  Eventually it launches, apparently functional (haven't tested it).
    Any help appreciated, thanks!

Corporate users are often very conservative, as many needs must be met before a new system can be rolled-out.  The reasons for being so conservative are rooted in good business, and in many cases are quite justifiable.
I have a friend who works IT at a railroad company, and he regularly has to support Windows 2000 machines amongst the majority of their systems, which are XP.  He tells me what he and a whole team of people struggle with every day.  I've been there.  I administered systems for entire Engineering departments myself.  One of the things I ALWAYS made time for, however, was breaking in new systems and getting to know them.  As a result, our people always had near state-of-the-art systems to work with.  It was even a selling point when our managers interviewed someone sharp who they were trying to get to accept an offer:  Our work environment was second to none.
In recent times we are starting to see why staying with an ancient operating system instead of "biting the bullet" and moving up to modern technology is proving to be more and more expensive.
Brushing aside Vista - for a while - might have been justifiable, but...
Hours and hours to make something work on XP?  New roll-outs of XP systems?  In 2010?  Are you kidding?
All that time being wasted to get old things working could and should be spent on embracing the new, and figuring out how to make it sing on key.  People have now gone before you and can authoritatively state that Windows 7 can be made to work.  A darned sight better than its predecessors in many ways!
    Time is money.

  • IPhoto crashes during Flickr set up

I installed the iLife 09 family suite on my computer then on my husband's (iMac 2.4 GHz intel core duo). iPhoto works flawlessly on my husband's. On mine however, it started out with the same problem others have posted: iPhoto crashing (or closing unexpectedly) upon starting. I followed the advice in a post to turn off AirPort and then start iPhoto turning AirPort on again once iPhoto was running. This seemed to solve that problem.
My problem now is that iPhoto crashes (or closes unexpectedly) when I try to "set up" Flickr to work through iPhoto. I click the Flickr button and it brings up Safari to have me log into our Flickr account then I am supposed to select the "ok, I'll allow it" button - but somewhere in there iPhoto always crashes in the background. The log below is from one of these occasions (I have only pasted what looked important to me).

I've tried to publish to MobileMe as well, and iPhoto always crashes during that scenario as well.
I used my husband's computer to test the Flickr feature using the same library my computer was working with - his published perfectly.
Here are the troubleshooting techniques I have used (all have yielded the same crashing of iPhoto during MobileMe/Flickr setup):
tried both with and without the iPhoto Update 8.0.2
tried restoring iPhoto 08 from Time Machine (can publish to MobileMe even as recent as the day I installed 09); then reinstalled iPhoto 09
tried reinstalling iPhoto 09 while iPhoto 09 was still on the computer
tried deleting the the com.apple.iPhoto.plist (but not the com.apple.iphotomosaic.plist)
tried rebuilding photo library with all 5 options selected
tried resetting Safari with all 9 options selected
have opened and saved a file in Garage Band (I know I'm reaching now)
tried starting with other libraries, including creating a new one
Interesting: my new iWeb published content and pictures to MobileMe no problem!
Background: my MacBook was not "born" with Leopard or iPhoto 08 - I put those on a year(?) ago (about the same time I upgraded my memory). And, my iPhoto 08 had been crashing or hanging when ever I tried to export (one of the reasons I wanted 09 so badly - to fix that problem). I thought that might have been due to my dotphoto file exported plugin - but I've deleted it and I've tried restoring past the time I installed it. iPhoto library has 6,700 pictures and 70 movies taking up 13.1 GB.
Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong? It feels like iPhoto 09 doesn't "talk" to the internet correctly.

    Patrick-
Thank you for the suggestion. I still encounter the same problem after running repair disk permissions. Here's what I get: Permissions differ on "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iPhotoAccess.framework/Versions/A/Resources/P lugins/..."
the specific plugins vary (there are about 16) then it states ".../Contents/CodeResources", should be -rw-r--r--, they are lrw-r--r--.
It also states this for nine /CoreServices/Front Row.app/
There are also warnings; one is: SUID file "System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad" has been modified and will not be repaired.
It ends by saying Permissions repair complete. I have no idea what to do with this information!
