Crash/lock when use special symbol palette in iDVD 6
I tried to use the special symbol palette to try to insert special language characters in the comments on a picture in a slide show. On choosing special symbols from the menu line (Edit) all seemed to be fine until I tried to choose another category of symbol from the palette.
At that point the symbol palette goes blank or only part of the information is visible and I can not close or move it. Often iDVD also locks and I have to force the application to quit.
After that, the blank symbol palette keeps popping open (then closing) when working with other applications. Cold restarts do not cure the problem. Only solution I have found to stop the annoying pop up of the palette is to delete the file in user preference (com.apple.CharPaletteServer.plist)
I try to do the same operation again with the same results. Do not know if this is a new problem or long standing since I had never used the palette before with iDVD. I can clear the created problem with the hanging palette, but the palette is esentially unusable. Character palette seems to be ok when using it from the international keyboard menu.
(The reason to try to use the palette was I could not paste names in a language that do not use Mac's standard diacriticals. Why is there no font menu choice or ability to paste a name from another application that has font menus?)
Wow-totally missed that-sorry. I guess i assumed that you didn't do that because that is about the only thing that I know of to fix it.
I guess you could try Validating fonts

Illustrator CS3 Windows - Freezes/Crashes/locks when using open dialog.
I have looked all over the internet for a solution like this and tried all sorts of possible combinations and none worked.
So I set about tracking it down one afternoon. It only took me 4 hours to find the issue.
I think it's when the Version Cue preferences gets corrupted.
SOLUTION:
Close Illustrator. If it's crashed used task manager to stop the application.
Navigate to: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\ and remove the workflow directory completely.
Restart Illustrator and the workflow directory will be recreated and now you can open your files with a dialogue as you would normally expect to.
Good LuckThe video card is opening the Save dialog offscreen, outside the visible desktop area.
Select Alt+ Spacebar, choose move and then use the arrow keys to move the dialog box back on screen and resize it so it fits and opens in the correct position. -
Locking when using a component as an object in the application scope...
I have a component that I am building right now that hold
application settings that are stored in a database table. The
settings are maintained in a structure "variables.settings" within
the component and can only be accessed by get and set methods. I
use the following to create the instance of the object:
<cfset application.settings =
createObject("settings","component").init() />
Now when getting a setting I do not think locking is needed
as its just reading the value and I am not really concerned with a
race condition...
But when using the set method which will update the value of
the setting.... should I be locking that as technically the object
is in a shared variable scope? Or is it safe because its within the
cfc/object?
If locking is needed, would I need to lock when using the set
method? or can I just build the lock into the set method so that
its always there? To disagree with craigkaminsky, I think you only need to lock
if you are
concerned about race conditions and what could happen during
a 'dirty
read' and|or conflicting writes.
A lot of developers have an old impression of ColdFusion that
one *must*
lock all shared scope variable access to maintain a stable
application.
This dates from the ColdFusion 4.5 days where there where
bugs in
ColdFusion that could cause memory leaks and eventual
application
instability if one did not lock shared scope reads and
writes. This has
long been fixed, but the advice persists.
So now it is only a matter of your data and what would happen
if one
user read an old value while it was in the process of being
updated by
another user. Or could two users be updating the same value
at the same
time and cause conflict. If either of those two statements
are true,
then yes you should use locking as required by your
application.
But if they are both false and it does not matter that user A
might get
the old value microseconds before user B changes it. Or there
is no
concern with user A changing it once and user B changing it
again to
something different moments later without knowing the user A
has already
changed it. Then locking is probably unnecessary.
There can be a cost to over locking shared variable writes
and|or reads.
Every time one creates a lock, one is single threading some
portion of
ones code. Depending on how the locking is done, this single
threading
may only apply to individual users or it may apply to every
single user
on the entire server. Either way, too much of this in the
wrong places
can create a significant bottle necks in ones application if
too many
user requests start piling up waiting for their turn through
the locked
block of code. -
Shutter locks when using the camera in AV mode.
EOS Rebel T3i - Shutter locks when using the camera in AV mode. It actually freezes up when in this mode...no it's not just allowing more light in through the shutter but rather locking in the open position. How can I resolve this? Thank you.
Does it do this in bright sunlight at the lowest f/number?
How do you know the shutter is locked open?
Does it do this on multiple lenses?
How long does the phenomenon last, and how do you stop it?
Do you end up with an image? Is it totally overexposed and motion blurred?
Positive it is not mirror lockup?

Hide passcode lock when using projector
Is it possible to hide the passcode lock when using a projector? I'm a teacher so when my ipad locks and I want to unlock it the whole class can see my passcode unless I unplug it first!
ThanksMany projectors have a button or option to 'black' the screen, which keeps the projector on, just in some way doesn't show any light, making it easy to show something else on the same screen. See if yours has the option, and if so, press it, put your code in, then press it again.

802.1X PEAP fails when using special characters in login
I am using MS AD & NPS for 802.1X Enterprise authentication with PEAP (no client certificate - MS-CHAPv2 user credentials for login). This works fine for iOS devices on 8.1 (iPhone 5 and iPad mini) and 6.1.6 (iPhone 3GS) when the user has standard "English" ASCII characters in the username and password.
However, when I introduce Unicode special accented characters in the login name or password such as French é/ù or Spanish ñ then after accepting the server cert authentication fails with "Incorrect username or password for <WLAN name>". Windows 7 and CentOS 6.5 laptops have no problem authenticating to the same setup with either "English" credentials or ones with special accented characters. I also tried an old iPod touch on ancient software version and that fails, so its not something recently introduced.
I tried using a different access point (TP-Link instead of Ruckus) and had exactly the same issue, so highly unlikely this is an AP issue.
Then I setup FreeRadius with and see exactly the same issue, so its highly unlikely to be a MS AD/NPS issue.
When comparing a working/failed authentication Wireshark packet capture on the NPS server, I see the failed attempt is missing the last 4 packets in the authentication exchange. The last packet sent is an Access-Challenge from the NPS server and no response from the iOS device, so the NPS server never even sends an Access-Reject. The iOS device appears to have decided it can't resolve the special characters and terminates the authentication attempt.
To me this seems to be an Apple iOS software deficiency when using Unicode special characters in the username or password for 801.2X authentication?Enterprise support:

Releasing locks when using "Navigate Pushbutton" in Web Interface Builder
Hi
I am creating a basic BPS application in Web Interface Builder for manual data entry into a Cube.
I have a requirement for a user to navigate away from the data entry screen to a "Start Screen". To do this, I am using the "Navigate Pushbutton" component.
When the user navigates away from the data entry screen, I want the locks to be released. I have attempted to do this using the "End Command" attribute of the Navigate Pushbutton to "True". According to the Help for this attribute, the following should happen:
" When this property has the value TRUE, the page context will be lost when you press the pushbutton (and all locks are deleted)."
However, when I look at the locks in SM12, I can see that the locks remain, even after the user has clicked on the Navigate Button.
Therefore, it would appear that the "End Command" attribute does not release the locks when it is set to True.
(By the way, I have also tried setting it to false, but the same issue occurs).
Has anyone got any advice on how I can solve this?
(We are running BW 3.1).
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.Hi,
You are correct this is standard functionality that should work. Please post the solution proposed by SAP.

XControl always locked when used in class -- possible bug?
Hi,
This is not dissimilar to this question. However, I think that the issue is slightly different and possibly a bug. If do the following:
create a project,
create an XControl,
create a class,
add an instance of the XControl to a class method
you should see that the XControl is locked all of the time. This only occurs when the XControl is used with a class. If the XControl is placed on a VI, in a project library or not, the XControl will only be locked when the VI which is using it is open (i.e., in memory and the XControl is running).
This may be expected behaviour due to the way classes are loaded; however, as a user I find it unexpected -- is it a bug?
Regards,
Steve.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Unlike normal libraries (.lvlib), classes always load all their member VIs into memory when the class is loaded into memory. So if one of those VIs uses an XControl, then it will become locked as soon as you load the owning class into memory, even if the VI is not open. You might be able to get around this by right-clicking the XControl in the project and selecting "Unlock Library for Editing". This will temporarily break any VIs that call the XControl until you are done editing it.

Hi,
Let me explain you a scenario in 7.0. I have a summary listing screen and when you click on a link on the summary table, it navigates to the details page.
When you navigate to the details screen, create a new Jco client and we execute one RFC using it , RFC is coded to add a lock entry against the table and user id.
when we move out of the details screen, we have to delete the lock entry.
the lock entry will automatically gets deleted when the Jco session(by which the lock is created) is released. So in order to do that, we release the session when you exit from the details screen.
also we keep the Jco client session until we exit the details screen as we have an option to share the Jco Client between the RFC calls. we use the same Jco client for all the RFC calls until we exit.
But in 7.3 we do not have that option to share the Jco Client . So is there any way to keep the lock active until we exit from the details screen.
I could find similar topics in the below discussions. But those are unanswered

ThanksI completely agree!
I originally had the 4 digit PIN set on my iPhone which, while sometimes annoying to have to enter, was not overly difficult to enter especially when walking along with only one thumb free to push the 4 digits. Now that I have exchange going my whole phone is locked with an alpha numeric and special chr passcode which means I have to use the keyboard.
Now I cannot enter the code without stopping and carefully typing the full password. There should be an option to get into most apps with a simple 4 digit passcode (with a nice large number entry pad) and just have anything associated with exchange (eg. mail, calendar, contacts) locked with the full passcode (requiring a full keypad and careful typing).
I really need a quick way to unlock the phone and make a quick call without having to enter our cryptic exchange passcodes all the time. -
Photoshop CC 2014 Crashes Randomly when using the Text Tool...
Since the most recent Photoshop update, CC 2014 has been extremely buggy and completely unstable on my Mac Pro, which is inexcusable from a paid service . The most common crash for me occurs when I try to use the “text tool” or attempt to edit text (usually the color). I am occasionally prompted with a window stating, “Could not complete your request because of a program error” and then Photoshop crashes seconds after.
After the initial crash and Apple’s various prompts I usually go through 2-3 consecutive cycles of Photoshop attempting to open back up and crashing over and over again.
I’ve attempted signing out and back in to my Creative Cloud as suggested in several threads, but that was unsuccessful in mitigating the crashing. Is there a fix for this, other than uninstalling and reinstalling? My studio has too many upcoming deliverables and deadlines to do a fresh install, so suggestions/solutions would be appreciated .

We are using SharePoint 2013 and I want to sync document libraries with
OneDrive for Business with my PC running Windows 7.
In general, it works, but my Windows Explorer crashes very often (after a few minutes) when I navigate in the synced directories and open files there (or copy files into them in Windows Explorer).
How can I find out what happens and how to avoid it?
remark:
We are still using Office 2007, so I installed only OneDrive for Business from the Office 2013 DVD and
deactivated all other components like Office 2013 by hand:
(so for example, the shared office feature or MS Info Path etc. were not installed)
Is there a crash log, where I can find more information about the crash?
Does OneDrive maybe need other components to be installed and can I install them without damaging my existing Office 2007 setup?Did you check your Event Viewer for any errors during the time when Windows Explorer crashed?
Thanks for this hint!
The Log file says the following, so it seems to be WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\btncopy.dll
to be responsible for the crashing Windows Explorer

Hey guys, I use PS CS5 v 12.04 x64 on a Mac with OSX ver. 10.7.5. I have 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM and my processor is 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7.
I usually run Chrome in the background for reference images and iTunes or Vox (a lighter music player) which is minimized.
The crashing occurs usually with the transform tool or while doing animation. This has started happening only an hour or so ago... I usually work in 300 dpi and scale down when I need to. My Mac is a bit over 2 years old but tends to heat up pretty often. Again, never reall had crashing problems before til now.
I haven't made any changes/updates lately. I would appreciate any help since I have some deadlines to meet this week

Running FF 2.0.0.8 with Sun Secure Global Desktop - no issues. Upgraded to V3.6.2, then 3.6.3. Both upgrades failed. Browser randomly crashes at different times, different pages. FF works if directly ssh'ing into application sever. When accessing FF after loging in using SGD, I get random crashes. I have a Solaris core dump generated by FF. Is there anyone that can read/diagnos the core dump?
I have identified the issue and received a 'fix' from the
Oracle Secure Global Desktop support team.
The issue - firefox is crashing when attempting to talk to the sound server which is not active. All activity within the window works fine, except ff hangs the second you move the mouse in to the top level menu.
We disabled the audio under the SGD configuration and that ficed the issue.
