Crash on changing Locations (MBP / 10.5.1)
Hi all,
Leopard has worked well for me apart from one persistent problem: it crashes occasionally when I change network locations. I have an 802.11g network at home, with a location called Home with Airport on and everything else disabled. I then have a location for work which has Ethernet enabled and everything else off, and a different proxy setting. When I get to work I plug my MBP into an external monitor and USB hub and wake it from sleep - so far so good. I then change location from "Home" to work via the Apple menu and the mouse pointer freezes and I have to force a reboot.
This happened as soon as I changed to 10.5, and it has also happened again this morning after updating to 10.5.1.
I have tried deleting these network locations and recreating them from scratch and the problem persists. I would like to delete the plist file which stores these settings - can anyone tell me what it is?
The machine doesn't crash when turning Airport on or off, or changing from work to home, although it did crash once when I tried to delete the work location from the Network pref pane. That's what led me to think I should delete the file which stores it.
Permissions and volume repair show no problems. Thanks for any insights!
Cheers, Matthew.
PS: system.log prior to crash (restart where I inserted "*"; Peony is the machine name):

I have EXACTLY the same problem with both of my macbook pros (the newest is 2.4GHz, both running 10.5.1).
One more fact. When I get to work, the computer automatically connects with our wireless system. Everything is fine, until I use location manager to switch locations to "work", which does not include a wireless option, just an Ethernet option with a fixed IP address. After I reboot, I can switch locations to "work", and everything works fine.
More recently, I've used a different approach that does seem to avoid the crashes. When I get to work, the first thing I do after waking from sleep is to turn off Airport. After doing this, I change locations to work. No crashes after doing this for about a week.
If anyone knows of a better way to solve the problem (e.g., removing bad files that migrated with me from earlier software versions), please let me know.

Illustrator CS3 crashes when changing locations during save or place. Mac, Yosemite
After updating to Yosemite and fixing the initial problem of not being able to open Illustrator (installing older Java). Illustrator now crashes every time I try to select a location to save a file. If I save without changing the file location it's not an issue. It also crashes when I want to PLACE a file and I try to navigate to the location.
MacBook Pro (2012), OSX 10.10.2 (Yosemite).
Adobe Illustrator CS3 (Yeah, I know).
Changing fonts doesn't seem to be a problem. Large files are OK. It's only when navigating to a location using a drop down menu in the SAVE AS or PLACE dialog box.
Any ideas of what might be wrong?New information: I switched to the adobe dialog format and it fixed my issue. I'm leaving this here in case anyone else runs into this. However, I wouldn't mind finding out why it won't work the the OS dialog.

Compressor 4.1 Crashes When Changing Location
Every time I click on a job to change the Location from Source to a specific folder, Compressor 4.1 crashes. I've trashed preferences using Preference Manager but to no avail. Suggestions?
First try repair permissions in DIsk Utility. I'm skeptical that it's a permission problem, but no harm in trying the least disruptive fix first.
If that doesn't work, and with Compressor closed, in the Finder>Go, hold down the option key to select the Home library. In that Home library>Applications Support, locate the Compressor folder and drag to the trash.
Restart Compressor.
Good luck.

Changing location of Iphoto library
I am looking to change my Iphoto library to an external hard drive, as my 250GB internal drive is just not large enough, especially as I am now using itunes to watch movies and TV shows. Is this a simple operation? The help menu has instruction on changing location but I am worried this just refers to a different folder within the internal hard drive.
Anyone got any suggestionsIt's very simple.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Airplay audio streaming from Iphone to ATV crashes when changing randomly title?
Why does airplay audio streaming from Iphone 4S iOS 7.04 crashes when changing randomly title? The ATV is not connected to a TV, only to an AV Receiver. Anywhere the same problem?
Thx a lot
NolameOops - I messed up the title-
This is with iOS 7.0.2 and Apple TV 6.0. -
Corner sign No service appeared. What that's mean? I am connected , recently changed locations.
Do you have a 3G/4g iPad?
I believe the no service warning is the iPad telling you you are not connected to a cell network.

I have 2 residences each with a printer. When I move from one place to another and try to print I always have to make sure the correct printer is shown in the print window. What can I do to make one change on my MacBook Pro when I change locations so I am not bothered with this nuisance problem?
There was a way from OS9 location manager to set a default printer for any given location. This is not the case in OSX.
You can however, easily change the default printer in Terminal.app with lpoptions -d PRINTERNAME. To view all the printers type lpstat -p. Keep in mind that the name in lpstat -p may be a little different than the name in Printer Setup Utility. You must use the lpstat -p, PRINTERNAME when changing it in Terminal.app. Of course, if the names are the same, you don't need to worry about it.

when I go to another page, a confirm pop up appears and asks if I want to change locations yes or cancel. Every time...it gets annoying and would like to delete it or disable it.
I am having the same problem and when I am on Face book, it gets really annoying because you switch pages so many times, especially when playing games.

Dynamically Changing Location Attributes
Hi All,
Has anyone ever successfully set up a BefConsolidate event script with a dynamically changing location attribute. The FDM Admin manual says you can do this:
RES.PblnValEntGroupOverride=True
RES.PstrValEntGroup=”MyNewEntityGroup”
It does not work for me when I sub in a new Validation Entity Group. Has anyone had luck with this? See my actual code below. The new validation group name is 281.
Sub BefConsolidate(strLoc, strCat, strPer, strTCat, strTPer, strEntGroup)
RES.PblnValEntGroupOverride=True
RES.PstrValEntGroup="281"
End Sub
Thx,
MikeHello,
Yes I am able to write to file before end if. I also took out end if statement which to me would me FDM would fire the event for all locations without restriction.
I have not tried the same code in other event script. Would that work? The RES statement specifically relates to a consolidation trigger. I can try another event to see.
Thanks. -

Please help me with the steps and question below.

2. move physical file to desired location
3. start nomount (here the controlfile is not read)
4. use the alter command as you suggested

Question: does the pfile get updated or do I also need to update pfile manually. Optionally could I use the scope = both in the above statment.

Library change location problem
Hello everyone, i make 2 partitions on my HD and im trying to move the itunes library to the second partition wich is the biggest 200GB, i have done everything by the book itunes/preferences/advanced/change location/new folder on my second partition called iTunes music/consolidate library/trash the old itunes folder from the music folder, but when i open itunes again there is no music at all, i tried several times the same procedure and the same thing happened, please help
Itunes 6.0.3Did you trash the entire 'old' iTunes folder?
If so, then you also trashed the 'iTunes Library' file which holds all your information about the songs.
If iTunes can't find that file it makes a new (empty) one.
If you did not empty the trash yet, put that file at it's original location (replacing the new one) and run iTunes again.
If you already emptied the trash, you might be able to recover it by using a data recovery program.

I just got a retro clock from brookstone and in setting it up it asked if I want to use current location which is incorrectly "Buffalo" but I do not know how to change it. Can anyone help me find where to change location?
As I understand it, Apple gets your location from the wi-fi router to which your iPod is connected. Location Services identifies the router and then checks for its location in Apple's database. If the router has been recently relocated or if there is a glitch in Apple's database, you will get an incorrect location. I don't think that there is anything you can do about it. You could send Apple a message about the error, but I doubt if they would do anything about it.
