Crash on iMovie import

Question

From reading on this forum and elsewhere on line, it appears I am not alone in experiencing a FCPX crash when importing an iMovie project.
I think I've tried all the suggestions I've read: repair permissions, delete preferences, ran the iMovie project, finalized the project... I have plenty of RAM and disc space. Everytime I attempt the import, it crashes when generating the thumbnails for the storyline. Then FCPX crashes again when I reopen the program. I have used Event Manager X to "hide" the imported project so FCPX will start.
I have sent feedback to Apple.
Any suggestions?

Here's a bit more information on my importing problem.
I brought the iMovie project and events to work and tried it on another iMac with about the same results. It appeared to import, but before the thumbnails could display it crashed.
I tried changing the thumbnail preferences to display audio only and another time to disply only a "basic" timeline image...quit FEPX...restarted...reimported...same result.
On one occasion, the project appeared to import, but only the first clip showed up in the project. I could play it just fine.
After restarting FCPX after crashes, the imported project often is on the list of project, but is shows 00:00 for lenght and there are no thumbnails.
This suggests to me that the problem is with the iMovie project and perhaps the second clip. My version of iMovie here is older than the version used to create the project, so I can't look at the second clip until later today. I'm working on this project for someone who wants to to "fix up" a few problem areas in the iMovie project. I haven't been much help.
