Crash using toolbar on Reader 8.1.2 Mac OS 10.4.11
I'm a Mac OS 10.4.11 user. I have a G5 i Mac and I use the Reader 8.1.2
When I use the toolbar commands the Reader crash or I move the mouse on the display too.
I haven't problems when I use de menus command.
Do you mean what kind od thing causes this problem ?
FB
I would bet a corrupted preference file could be at the root of the
problem. Log on as a different user. If it works then its a preference
file problem.

Use CardScan to read business cards for Mac?
Cardscan is a very useful device to scan business cards for address details with one drawback, it is not compatible with Mac software.
Judging from the cardscan website comments, this will not be the case in the foreseeable future. However, the optical character reader in that program is excellent and eats data correctly most of the time.
There are ways to use Cardscan via a windows machine and then with all sorts of intermediate steps get address details into Mac AddressBook, but that process is so cumbersome that in real life I do that once every 3-6 months.
Is there an alternative to Cardscan (which is just as good) for a Mac, or alternatively, is there someone out there who would like to take up this challenge and make some software to let cardscan communicate direcyly with a Mac?
I would love to pay for such software and I bet I am not alone in that.
If we identify such a person and I get enough responses here, we could set up a fund via http://www.fundable.org/ to get it financed at no risk (i.e. if we do not raise enough $$ everybody gets their money back).
Would love to have some feedback here.This is mostly speculation or brainstorming.
Use cardscan with a PC. Then use Plaxo (with Outlook if you like) to collect the cards to a central server. There is a beta version of Plaxo integrated with the Address book. The beta is not perfect. Once it goes live I would expect a smooth process for keeping both a PC and a Mac in sync when it comes to business cards.
Plaxo also supports a web interface if you need to access the data that way. -
Embedded Windows Reader 10.1.2 Crashes Using the Typewriter Tool
Since Reader 10.1.2 my typewriter tool documents are not working properly in an embedded Adobe Reader window, e.g. in Firefox or Internet Explorer.
Opening the first file at http://www.ld-didactic.de/software/1.pdf shows the typewriter tool window as usual.
Opening the second file at http://www.ld-didactic.de/software/2.pdf doesn't show the typewriter tool window anymore.
Also, opening the first document again will not show the typewriter tool window again. Instead the Reader crashes often while loading more typewriter documents or while closing the embedded Reader.
I tested it with Adobe Reader 10.1.2 in Firefox and Internet Explorer on Windows Vista and Windows 7 x64 systems. It worked with Adobe Reader 10.1.1.
Can anyone reproduce this issue?
MichaelDid you open the files inside Firefox or Internet Explorer using the embedded Reader?
Do you have Adobe Acrobat or Reader 10.1.2 installed on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system?
Only the first attempt opens the typewriter toolbar correctly on the systems I tested. Later on no typewriter toolbar opens again and I often get BEX (buffer overflow exceptions) resulting in DEP (Data Execution Prevention) exceptions:

my laptop hard drive crashed, used to have lion now it is back to snow leopard. i lost all of my info, music, pictures, etc. how do i get it back to lion again? this is very frustrating because i paid $30 to download it and now i am unable to have it again.
If your Mac is off then start up. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Option key until the Mac and Windows Disks show up. Then click on the Mac disk and the arrow below it. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.
If you are in Windows then look for the Boot Camp icon on the taskbar. It will look like a gray box sitting on one corner. One of the options when you click it is to restart in Mac OS. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk. -
How do I set the filename using the inline reader with a web browser?
Hi all,
Most likely an age-old question that I have not been able to track down an answer for ...
My application presents a pdf to the user using an embedded reader and gives them the saveas button as an option in the toolbar.
When they go to save the file it defaults the filename to be the entire URL of the document.
How can this be changed to be something more user-friendly??
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide for this issue.
-DennisI suppose you could use Javascript.
Or you could display the content within the applet itself.
But probably the best thing would be to have the server return a URL (or an identifying token to be added to a URL) and the applet could use AppletContext.showDocument to send the user to another page.
That's my opinion anyway. -
Plugin issue after using SignPlugin and Reader-enabling
Hi all,
I would like to ask for a help with plugin that we have developed for Adobe Reader.
We are running into an issue with the plug-in and I was hoping that you can help me out. It looks like plug-in works perfectly in the Acrobat but we have an issue with getting it to work with Reader as described below. I would greatly appreciate your help.
We have a problem with plugin after signing it using RIKLA certificate provided by Adobe and Reader-enabling.
Our plugin has been developed to allow users to sign PDF XML data from Reader user interface using custom library (sign library) and msxml3.dll library ( to transform PDF form XML into custom XML format). Plugin target is Adobe Reader 9 and it has been tested using Adobe Acrobat 9 earlier. Recently we received RIKLA certification key and after we tried to sign plugin and use it in Reader we started to have problems.
Plug-in, compiled directly from source code and installed in Adobe Acrobat 9 is working correctly. We haven’t experienced any issues and everything seems to be working properly.
The same plug-in signed using SignPlugin tools from Acrobat SDK 9.1 (command SignPlugin -kp keypairFileName -cf Reader_Integrated_Key_FileName MyPlugin.api) and RIKLA key is not working correctly in Adobe Reader 9.
The problem appears when plugin is trying to access external library msxml3.dll and execute createProcessor() function. The same function work properly in Adobe Acrobat 9 before sing plug-in with RIKLA key.
Below there is fragment with code that doesn’t work in Adobe Reader after reader-enabling but works in Adobe Acrobat.
Plug-in crushes in line pProcessor = pTemplate->createProcessor();.
try{
pProcessor = pTemplate->createProcessor();
} catch(_com_error &e) {
printf("Error setting XSL style sheet : %s\n",
(const char*)_bstr_t(e.Description()));
AVAlertNote("Error setting XSL style sheet");
AVAlertNote(e.Description());
exit(-1);
Code that we use in catch() block lets us know that error source is “msxml3.dll” library.
As we have discovered problem occurs only after Reader-enabling .api plugin file. Clear compiled .api file works properly in Adobe Acrobat 9 without any problems.
We would like to know if you have experienced any similar issues? If yes, what have caused them?
Why same plugin is working in Acrobat 9 before signing and after signing using provided certificate it stops working?
Are there any restrictions of using external libraries in Reader that are not working there, and these restrictions are not obeyed in Acrobat?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Hi Irosent,
Is there a way that Acrobat and Reader differentiate between library initialization?
Would it be useful if I place any part of code or project configuration for you so maybe you will be able to help?
Libraries that we use (our own dll files) we place in windows/system32 folder (there also exists msxml3.dll file that we use).
Here are preprocessor definitions that we have defined:
_AFXDLL
_USERDLL
READER_PLUGIN
NDEBUG
WIN_PLATFORM
WIN32
_WINDOWS
WIN_ENV
ACRO_SDK_LEVEL=0x00090000
As for library msxml3.dll that we use in code we have:
#import <msxml3.dll> named_guids
using namespace MSXML2;
MSXML2::IXMLDOMDocumentPtr
pXml(MSXML2::CLSID_DOMDocument);
MSXML2::IXMLDOMDocumentPtr
pXslt(CLSID_FreeThreadedDOMDocument);
IXSLTemplatePtr pTemplate(CLSID_XSLTemplate);
IXSLProcessorPtr pProcessor;
Later there is a part of code that I have posted in first post and where plugin crashes.
I would really appreciate your help. -

Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.
Hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. <br />
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.

AIR 3.6 & 3.7 Loading Remote SWF Crashes iOS on Property Read
I have been trying out the feature in AIR SDK 3.6 that allows you to load local swf files with ABC. This is working fine. However, I am getting a crash on an iOS AOT build when I load a remote swf that does NOT have ABC and I try to read any property on that remote asset. I have never had this problem with AIR 3.4. The problem persists on AIR 3.7
Below is a simple example to reproduce the problem. The crash will occur immediately when it attempts to trace the "currentLabels" property of the loaded content. I believe the property itself to be arbitrary --- the same crash will occur when reading any property. In fact, you can even set a breakpoint before that line and in the Flash Builder debugger, if you try to expand the content's properties the app will crash.
package
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.display.StageAlign;
import flash.display.StageScaleMode;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.ProgressEvent;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
import flash.system.ApplicationDomain;
import flash.system.LoaderContext;
public class MobileAppTest extends Sprite
private const path:String = "https://s3.amazonaws.com/wowzers-dev/mobile/client/";
private var files:Array = ["art/common/LoadingScreen.swf"];
public function MobileAppTest()
super();
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
loadNext();
private function loadNext():void {
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(path + files[0]);
trace("\n>>> loading: " + req.url);
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, onLoadProgress);
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoadComplete);
var context:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext(false, ApplicationDomain.currentDomain, null);
loader.load(req, context);
private function onLoadProgress(evt:ProgressEvent):void {
trace(evt.bytesLoaded + " out of " + evt.bytesTotal);
private function onLoadComplete(evt:Event):void {
trace("<<< onLoadComplete " + evt.currentTarget.contentType);
trace("=== currentLabels: " + evt.currentTarget.content.currentLabels);
Am I doing something wrong? Is this a known issue that will be fixed?
So far I have tested this on an iPad 3 with iOS 6.1.3.
Thank you.I was having the same problem using CS5.5 and AIR 3.7. For me, the solution was to put a label in my main timeline and then call this.currentLabels in the main .as class.
My app was crashing every time I called the "currentLabels" property from a custom class controlling a remote SWF. I thought that it might have been a problem with the FrameLabel class not being imported at compile-time, so I tried placing a flash.display.FrameLabel reference in the main class. This did not fix the problem. Then I tried making an arbitrary call to the currentLabels property of my main timeline (all you need to do is reference it) and everything else worked fine.
*edit*
After a little further testing, it seems that you can place the reference anywhere (I put it in my custom class by calling theRemoteSWF.parent.currentLabels), but that you must have a label somewhere in the main timeline and call the "currentLabels" property of your main SWF before referencing the currentLabels of a child SWF -
Is there a plugin to use TextAloud to read webpages?
The TextAloud manual says I can use it to read webpages in Firefox. The TextAloud toolbar should show up on "View > Toolbars", but it doesn't.
Is there a plugin that I should install?
Thanks.It depends on what you're asking.
After Effects can link the values of any digital audio file's amplitude to virtually any other parameter or control within AE. With the use of equalization you can make certain frequencies control different parameters. The 3rd party plugin Trapcode Sound Keys makes that process much easier and faster, but you can do it natively within AE too.
http://www.trapcode.com/products_soundkeys.html
But as you mention ANALOG audio I'm not sure what you mean. Do you want real time animation generated from an external audio source? After Effects can't do that - it doesn't do anything in real time.
Apple Motion can assign parameter controls to MIDI controllers, allowing you to control parameters from a multitude of devices like musical keyboards, drum pads, MIDI mix controllers etc. -
Illustrator CS6 (mac) crashes at startup while reading fonts! HELP PLEASE!!
So I've had this problem for a while now. My illustrator crashes at startup while "reading fonts". BUT the strange thing is, illustrator opens fine in the other user accounts on my computer. I just want it to work on my main one but no luck getting it to work!! PLEASE HELP! ive tried so many solutions such as clearing my cache, disabling fonts, cleaning my fonts, deleting preferences and plugins, etc. everything listed already!
Here is the problem report...it's pretty long:

- Boot the Mac with the shift key held down, then try launching. (Safe Mode). Does it launch?
If yes, you've got some third party software causing a conflict. Safe Mode ensures only Apple System files are launched at startup. You'll have to track down what third party startup item may be the issue.
Addendum.. if you use Font Book and also downloaded FontExplorer, that may be your issue entirely - two apps BOTH trying to control the same font files.
- Switch to a different user account. Does it launch?
If yes, your user account is broken. Often the best thing to do here is to create a new user account, migrate everything from the old user account to it, then remove the old user. Or you could simply do a clean install of the OS. With Mac OS10.6 or later, a clean install is actually pretty painless and doesn't require a great deal of reinstalling other applications or reconfiguring.
If neither of the above work....
- Boot from the Recovery Partition by holding the Option key down when the Mac Boots up. Run disk utilities and repair permissions and Verify the Hard drive. Then retry. If it still won't launch, you may have issues witht he OS installation itself, in which case a clean install is also reccomended. -
Again problem with camera raw in Bridge.
Many times, clicking on done after some modifications on RAW files, the system crash.Ok Barbara,
I've downloaded Combo updater.
I didn’t found files like com.adobe.bridge.plist in librery/prferences, maybe I made a wrong search?
In finder/application I found what s shoved in the enclosure.
The problem unfortunately is not fixed.

Okay, then it's not a clone. TM only restores documents/settings/etc, not your system.
Here's what I would do. Go here and download the combo updater for 10.7.3:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
Then run that. Repair permissions.
Now go to your username>library>preferences and delete everything that is anything like com.adobe.bridge.plist (there may be more than one and some may have numbers). Also any lockfiles with the same name. This library file is hidden in 10.7. Option click the Go menu in the Finder and it will appear below the little house for your user account. While you're in there, go to the Saved Application States folder and delete anything in there relating to PSE or bridge.

I'm using firefox 1.0.6 on a Mac OSX 10.3. Firefox is crashing and freezing frequently. I've heard that My firefox version is too old to update and I should get a new computer. I can't upload art to my website. News articles freeze constantly. Firefox shuts down when I go to certain websites. What can I do? Thanks.

Hi, When I use Azureus to download stuff recently my Mac Book Pro has started loosing network connection and sometimes crashing. If network connection is lost then the only thing that works is to restart the Mac Book. What can I do to stop this from happening. I know it isn't a network problem but only with the Mac.
ThanksWell as a matter of fact what I read was, "...When I use Azureus to download stuff recently my Mac Book Pro has started loosing network connection and sometimes crashing." Interpreted to mean that when you use Azureus you lose network connection. I didn't read that you are losing your network connection while using anything else or just doing nothing.

My flashplayer constantly crashes using Firefox!! What's the deal?
Follow the instructions here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1343084
That will do a COMPLETE "clean install".
After that, if it still stops, it's in your connection.
