Crash when I press power button?

When the computer is on and running, and I press the power button (to shut down or standby), the computer immediate freezes up and seems to stay that way.
Has anybody else seen this?

On my (rev B, 128Gb SSD) Macbook Air, pressing the power button does what it does on my other Macs, which is to immediately pop up a window with "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" and buttons for "Restart", "Sleep", "Cancel" and "Shut down". I've not heard of this issue before either. On the two Macbook Airs you can reproduce it on, do you have any software (particularly any sort of enhancing, system-utility sort of thing) that I - or most other Air users - would be unlikely to have? In my case mine is just normal OSX 10.5.6, with all patches, etc up-to-date, iWork 09 is installed as well as the XCode development tools. No system-level "enhancing" sort of software at all. Do you have anything connected via USB when this is happening? Anything logged in the "all messages" query in Console at the time you've pressed the power button? Are any processes doing anything badly-behaved all the time (ie does Activity Monitor show a runaway process) and you're only noticing the bad effect when the bit of code that does the popup window on the Power button press tries to run?

MacBook Pro crashes when I press power button to shut down

Installed Lion (10.7.2) on a 2010 MBP yesterday; had to replace the hard drive as it failed the SMART test. Everything seems to be working fine until I press the power button to shut the computer down. It freezes solid every single time. I have to then hold the power button down for 10 seconds so it restarts.
Anyone else with that issue?

I reset the PRAM/NVRAM which, incidentally, is different than it used to be. No more chimes; instead a screen which allows you to run Disk Utility, which I did. Also repaired permissions.
I reset the SMC which I thought would solve the problem considering the power button is managed by it. No luck.
I've disabled the tablet extension because I'd seen an error mentioning it somewhere and I've updated Growl to 1.2.2 although not the new Lion-friendly 1.3 because people seem to have a lot of trouble with it. Still, it's an option.

There's tons of stuff here. Hopefully, something up there makes sense. At the end of the day, everything works, except shutting down the computer with the power button. I'm trying to use menus but it's a hard habit to break.

Which MacBook Pro do you have? If it has an optical drive then that is just the optical drive checking if there is a disk inserted.

Firefox crashes when I pressing Browse button to upload files

Macbook pro is not getting turn on and further when i press power button the green orange light suddenly changes to green again, moreover battery meter is not working

Last night my macbook pro gets off automatically when battery gets empty and in the morning it isn't turning on. When i connect the charger, the light on the charger turns green to orange (showing that it is charging) but when i press the power button it suddenly changes to green again. I thought there must not be any connection between the charger light and the power button. And battery meter was running fine.
When it tried this again and again the charger light disappear and battery meter also stops working, when i clearly observe it there is a very dim green light in the charger (not observable in the light) and the laptop is still not showing any change.
please help!

If you're still having problems try a 'Safe Boot' - restart holding down the shift key until you see a grey progress bar. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu.
If that doesn't work, boot into the Recovery HD, launch Disky Utility and check the Macintosh HD using the 'repair disk' option. If anything gets fixed click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass, then restart as normal from the Apple menu.
To start into the Recovery HD restart holding down Command + r

My new HP Split X2 2 in 1 is not starting all the time when I press power button.

I brought HP Split X2 2 in 1 (tablet com laptop)1one week back and I have the prob from day 1. Press the power button for 1 sec to 10 sec for 100 tmes a day, it is starting only once per day. No one knows at which attempt it may started it may be 10th or 50th or 100th. Certenly in the begining of the day it is not startng. If it starts by luck, then it works. After it start, even if u do a shutdown and restart, it works. But go to sleep and wake up in the morning, my attempts starts. Customer care talks to you politly but each time each member has diffrent solutions. Its a defective piece..
Any suggestons would be appritated. It has 2 batteries, 1 in touch panel and the other in key board.

Mac Pro Crashes when I press Eject button!?

I've recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. This has brought me more problems than solutions! Chief among them is that the Eject button on my keyboard sometimes causes my Mac to quit all applications (including the Finder) thereby dumping all unsaved files. This problem is not exclusively caused by the eject button as it also happened once when I tried to Force Quit Safari which had froze. The "crash" does not appear to be a full crash since the Mac doesn't entirely restart but the screen goes blue, all menus disappear, then after a few seconds the Finder relaunches but all other programmes have quit and all unsaved changes lost. This is clearly unsatisfactory and frankly an intolerable risk given the work I can lose if this happens. I'm not sure of the cause but suspect it might be linked to the Flash Player in Safari which has been behaving very oddly since upgrading. Safari frequently freezes due to the Flash player going haywire. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Flash Player several times but it keeps messing up. That may be a separate problem but it's the only lead I have at the moment...
Can anybody help me restore some stability to my Mac??

Try removing the memory card, and turning it on while plugged it.
Also try it with a new battery.
This also happened to me once, I even hard reset it and nothing happened. Turned out to be that the battery died suddenly.

I have a ipod nano shuffle, 6th gen. I bought it when I had Windows Vista. I upgraded to Windows Ultimate 7. Now it keeps shutting off. Have to press power button and touch arrow to restart. 3 to 4 times a song. I ran diagnostics. Passed until end.

Have iPod Nano Shuffle 6th Gen. I purchased it when I had Windows Vista. I have since upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate . Was fine with Vista. Now, it keeps shutting off during the song, 3 or 4 times. Have to press power button and then arrow to restart song. I went to my iTunes and ran diagnostics. Passed all until the end. The last test had a red dot failure. It said no iPod, iPhone, or iPad found. Does someone know how I can correct the problem? iTunes is always updating, so I am current.

The sleepimage file still reappears even if never slept. Delete it (hibernate off, etc) - within minutes its back.
