Crash When Making Slideshow

I am new to iMovie, but disappointed by my initial experience. I am trying to do a simple slide show -- 161 jpg photos, running for 3 seconds each, with simple dissolve transitions.
I get the photos in, and then select them all and select the "dissolve" transition to apply to all of them at once. The machine then works on it for a while, until suddenly iMovie just stops and I'm back on the desktop.
I don't get it. This is a brand new iMac, with the full 3GB of RAM, a 750 GB hard drive, and the slide show is only about 10 minutes long. If iMovie with this setup can't handle this task, how can it do anything?
Suggestions?
Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hi P
My first thought. Is it possibly to apply a transition to several clips in one
manouver ??
I only apply one at a time.
If it should be possibly then You might try:
No not knowing but just suggesting what to try till someone that knows
and gives the correct answer.
- Delet iMovie pref file:
-->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie.plist
and
-->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie3.plist
- Repair Permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
- Repair Hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool) - You need to start from CD/DVD or
one external hard disk
- Eventually: Start a new account - log into this and re-try.
Other origins are version conflicts:
OS X.3.9 + iMovie 5.0.2 + QT 6.5.2 = stable working environment (if possibly)
OS X.4.9 + iMovie 6.0.3 + QT 7.1.5 = also OK
Just to start with till the real gurus hit the bulls eye.

  • PSE 12 Trial crashes - when running slideshow or outputing

Downloaded trial version of PSE 12 - runs slow and randomly crashes when playing slideshow in editor.  Also crashes when outputing to any format at random points in the slideshow.
Just about to give up and switch over to iMovie as this has become increasingly frustrating.
Any suggestions as I have used version 7 in the past had a few issues, but nothing like what I am experiencing at this point in time?

Under the tab TAGS / KEYWORDS, I have a keyword called IMPORTED KEYWORD TAGS. That's where I found my problems.
I think the bottom line is that the conversion / importing of previous catalogs is not working. In my case, it seems to be something to do with the tags. Who knows how many other issues there may be.
To me, there are enough postings on numerous site to indicate there is a significant problem. I've used PSE since version four.  Most upgrades worked, Two did not.  (I still load the PSE version 8 software to preserve the albums my wife created. An upgrade scrambled the files and my wife too it personally. Not worth the risk of messing up again.)
I am looking at MS Live Photo Gallery as an alternative.

  • Aperture Crashing when making book

Since updating to the latest release of Aperture, I've noticed it has gotten a bit freeze-prone. Working on a new book today, I've had to force quit 7 times in the last 3 hours. Thank god for Aperture saving as I go along.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
for example (all of the below require a force quit):
-freezing for no reason when browsing photos in my library.
-freezing occasionally when making minor adjustments
-I'm currently making a book, my first since updating to 3.3 or whatever we're on now. I was incorporating a map into several pages and without fail, sometime during the process of choosing a location on each map creation, Aperture would "not respond" and freeze. I'd have to force quit.
Any ideas? I have no clue why this is happening. I'm running the top of the line 2013 21" imac, with really no other bloating or hi-needs programs other than Aperture. I'm solely running Aperture when doing any heavy editing. I really doubt it is the Mac.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon. You may want to send feedback to Apple to let the developers know of the problem.  Here is the feedback form:  Apple - Aperture - Feedback
And I hope your book will turn out great, in spite of the problems.
Unfortunately it will not help, to go offline, when entering the Places, because the connection to the server is needed. Going offline will prevent Aperture from crashing, as far as I can see, but the Place markers will not appear on the map, because there is not connection to the server.

  • LR4 Regularly Crashes When In Slideshow

Hi, I've used LR3 for a long time and recently upgraded to LR4.
I'm finding that it regularly crashes when I'm in Slideshow.
I have an iMac with 8GB ram and even with no other applications running, I have this problem.
The only 'cure', albeit temporary, seems to be to turn off and restart my computer.
    Any ideas?

Try removing the Preferences File/s. Look here for instructions: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-41.html
If that does not help next try removing the .lrdata file from your catalog folder and rebuilding previews.

  • Indesign CS3 crashes when making pdf

I had this problem 2 months ago, and I thought it was fixed, but it's started happening again. When I try to export a file as a pdf, InDesign CS3 will crash/close the program. However, I CAN export pdfs in CS. It also crashes when trying to import/place a pdf file or other type of file.
    I am using a PowerMac G4. Version 10.5.8.
    Thanks!!

    Dual Personalities, eh?
I'd tru running something like Cocktail or MacJanitor to clean your caches -- I'm on Windows so there may be a better way known to Mac folk. Emptying the temporary files is a good idea, but again, I don't know where they live on your system.

  • Aperture Crashing when Making Adjustments

Just that.. I have Aperture 3 installed on a 6 month old iMac 21.5" with 8gbs RAM. Never had a problem with Aperture 2 or with the 32bit config in APerture 3. Whenever I import images, it seems to be stable and happy, but after I begin to rate the images, and then to make simple adjustments like shadows/highlights, or exposure adjustments I get the spinning beach ball of death and it locks up. its especially annoying when trying to work in full screen, especially when Apple pushes this as an amazing new idea and I cannot get out of it without pulling the plug on my whole system and then restarting. I dont lose any adjustments except the one that locked it up.. but this software locking up is the most reliable feature... it doesnt work. I have rebuilt the libraries, reinstalled aperture, used the the library on multiple different machines using Aperture 3... anyone have any idea what to do here?

  • Powerpoint 2011 Crashes When Entering Slideshow Mode attached to Projector.

My MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 crashes every time I try to enter slideshow mode in Powerpoint 2011 if I am driving a projector.  It does not crash if I enter slideshow mode without the projector, of if I connect to the projector but don't enter slideshow mode.  I give a lot of presentations, so this is a real problem.

Confirm I have had the same problem with Office 2011 Powerpoint. Crash to unresponsive black screen, must force off with power button. 15" Mid-2010 MacBookPro 6.2 MC373C/A 4GB RAM and Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Began slowly/intermittently in July when I was working daily with the pptx. Was then crashing with a 2nd monitor attached going into slide show mode. Crash problem became more frequent over time.
Now the crash occurs with certainty in almost any configuration - slide show with 2nd monitor/projector, or without any monitor/projector or other peripherals attached, and with either the battery or 110v MagSafe power supply.
I have tried creating an alternate user account - and the problem again starts randomly and acelerates in frequency.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Office2011 for Mac as per MS instruction support pages. Same crash, on launch , when opening a file after launch, or when clicking onto a different slide if a successful launch does occur.
Powerpoint at this time and in this condition is unuseable.
Too bad because I have another presentation to prepare and give tomorrow, and I have already paid for and now depend on the MBP, and at this time the MSOffice2011 software.
If anyone has solved why this problem is occurring (I see it occurs frequently enough that similar questions appear in many forums) - please share your insights and a solution if you have one? ThankYou.

  • IPhoto '11 crashing when making photobooks in Mountain Lion

    Hi all,
Am using a new '12 Macbook Air with Mountain Lion & iPhoto '11.
Am creating a photobook and it keeps crashing out.I get as far as editing a caption or two then spinning wheel....
Have rebuilt database, permissions etc etc within iPhoto. There's plenty of room on my drive.
    Also have reinstalled ML.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Adam

Try deleting the iPhoto cache file:
1 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
2 - launch iPhoto and try again.
If that fails try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists.
If the new library works your current library is damaged and you will need to try the following (#1 again if you didn't try all 3 options) before going to #2: make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
    Lastly:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
If the test library doesn't work either then log into another user account on your Mac and try iPhoto from there.  If it crashes there a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally.

  • Program crashes when making vertical blends

I'm making a layout of 2 inch squares, 20 wide and 5 tall, to make color swatches for matching a target color.  I'm then taking a starting value and using the edit colors>blend vertically, and blend horizontally to blend the color in the direction I think it needs.  But every three or so blends i make it crashes the program, and even when I save my progress it crashes half the time.  its a simple file just 2 inch square with color files.  Any help woud be great.
I'm using CS6 on a osx10.6.8  ALL other jobs I've been working on have been fine.
    Marcus

Is this on the blends or usage of blend vertically???
To use blend vertically the colros cannot be global. Did you use edit colors >> convert to cmyk prior to blend vertically? I also expanded appearance, and this worked for me. Try using blend son your 2 rows of 20, ratehr than blend veritcally. Also try doing this in a fresh new document, incase you exisiting document has some corruption.

  • CRASH when making a new folder in save for web

When going into Save For Web, and saving a picture, and clicking the little "new folder" button, Photoshop crashes and closes instantly. This is 100% reproducible.
Can we expect this to be fixed?
    Details:
    Windows 7 x64, fully updated
    Photoshop CS5 x64, fully updated
    Memory is plentiful
    Disk space is plentiful

Always nice to get an upgrade, but it's a rather costly operation, one might say
I still think this is an issue Adobe should be fixing. This problem (for me at least) did only occur in the save dialog while in Save For Web, and not in any other save dialogs, such as the regular file->save as. This made it very hard for me to believe the problem is in my system. Although something might be triggering it, that something could hardly be the cause, since, like I said, the problem only occurs in SFW and only ever in Photoshop, and only in CS5. EVERY other program works fine in this regard.
So please, Adobe, fix this bug before forcing folks to initiate an expensive upgrade...

  • Application crashes when making Comments in Acrobat Pro XI

I'm using Acrobat Pro XI on an iMAC... I'm trying to make 'comments' to a pdf file I have created, but every time I type in the 'comment box' the application crashes. Is anyone else having the same problem, if so, have you been able to find a work around?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What you may remember, and what is still in Acrobat Pro XI, is the ability to align form fields when in form editing mode.
However, the new text editing features allow some degree of alignment. There is no align tool, nor an align command.
If you're trying to align the baselines of text, I'd first show the rulers (View > Show/Hide > Rules & Grids > Rulers) and draw a guide from the ruler to the baseline of the first text frame. Then as you're moving a frame (and it can be tricky when the frames are small), you want the Move cursor (looks like the Move tool in Photoshop). If you do that you should see green alignment "smart guides" appear as you drag. Finally, while still in that mode, you can tweak the position of a text frame by using the arrow keys on your keyboard to move in approximately 1 point increments.
I would also appreciate the ability to align like in a layout program like InDesign, but they haven't yet included it.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 crashing when making edits

I everyone. I migrated to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (I need to finish a couple of project before I can update the computer to CC and Mac OS 10.8.) and it's been crashing right from the begining. It's a random crash but my impression that it becomes more probable as the projects grow.
It happens whenever I'm editing and I press the shortcut for "overwrite" or "insert". (It also happens when I press the icon or move the clip to the timeline)
The screen message I get is this one:
The log message that I get afterwards goes as follows:
On previous days, I've been able to keep working just by deleting the Media database preview files from Premiere but it's not working anymore.
I'm working with XMF files shot with a Canon C300 synced using premiere to sound files (.wav). It only happens when I try to edit but it doesn't matter if I try to edit sound, sound and image or just image.
What it doesn't make sense is that it says something about "dynamic lynk" and, as far as I know, I'm not using dynamic link at all.
Thanks in advance for your time and wisdom
    Jaime From Spain

Now, a few updates after a very long night (just in case it might  help somebody)
Up until last night, I was saving my Premiere Projects in a Dropbox Folder inside my computer. It was a quick safe way of having a backup copy. Well, it seems that the crash is somehow related. Don't ask me why but once I moved the project file to a regular hard drive (actually a RAID0 where I keep my heavier files) the crashes have stopped.
This morning I went back to the dropbox idea with a new project and -Voilá!- after three hours of work, it crashed again. I moved the file to the RAID disk and no more crashes. My guess is that it is somehow related to the auto-save files that premiere keeps saving. Once it reaches a certain amount (around 20 in my experience) dropbox and Premiere start to do something weird and they crash the software... (It might be related to the software dropbox uses to keep your folders updated and keep backup versions of everything)
I'll run a few tests next week trying to keep the Auto-save files out of dropbox and just the regular files there to see what happens.
    Best regards
    Jaime
