Crash while invoking OpenGL 3D

AE 7 Just crashed on me for the first time in two years. The message comes up that AE has crashed while invoking OpenGL 3D. Can someone tell me how to fix this? I have tried to reinstall, repair and complete delete and install it and the message still come up. I have emailed adobe but no reply after 48 hrs.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the help. I copied it and then deleted it from the plug in folder and put it on the desktop for now. Did the file get corrupted or something? Do I need to reinstall the plug in or? I have AE installed on my laptop, I could just copy that one.
Thanks again.

  • After effects instantly crashes while using opengl with nvidias new drivers 178.24

Since I installed nvidias new drivers 178.24, after effects instantly crashes while using opengl. Anyone else experienced this?
    I have Geforce 8600 GT.
As a minor note, I had major problems with the new quicktime 7.5.5 update, both After effects and Premiere got problems with interpreting footage and frames here and there got the "missing frame" look. I also got more problems so I uninstalled it instantly. Is there a major problem with the update or a major problem with me?
    Thanks

I use Vista (in retroperspective this was probably a mistake, but the company wanted to test the capabilities with Vista when we bought the computer a year ago). And specs are:

Sorry not to give more info on the Quicktime problem, I don't remember exactly what more problems there where as we have had extremely much to do these last couple of weeks and I just freaked out and uninstalled it as soon as the problems emerged. I do remember the frame issue however, it was very clear, i imported an image sequence in premiere and everything worked fine, then i updated and frames were suddenly dropped, then i uninstalled and installed 7.5 again and it worked just fine. I also tried to flush the cache, restart and generally search for the source of the problem for a couple of hours.

  • AE CS4 crashes while invoking Keylight

I am having issues with a client's AE crashing when rendering out a file that uses the Keylight plugin. It will just give a message that AE has crashed and it will shut down. This is usually on DV material, but I think it has done it with other files as well. I am able to take the same source footage and put it on my computer with AE CS3 and use keylight and render the files just fine. If I try to take that CS3 project into the client's CS4, it will crash when rendering (it gets about 5 seconds into the clip before crashing). Some of the things I've tried are:
    1. turning off OpenGL render
    2. remove OpenGL plugin
    3. clear out the cache
    4. taking the plugin from my CS3 and replacing the CS4 one (you can't do this - it looks for some sort of license and will go into demo mode)
    5. recapturing the source footage - in case I had corrupt files
    6. numerous reboots
Has anyone heard of this happening or have an idea of what could be the cause? I'm not quite sure what to tell my client.
    Thanks! TC

Excellent! That seems to have helped. I did a couple of quick tests to see if that would work. Although I still can't figure out why it would do that with only DV source with a mask and keylight. I did notice the RAM shot up quickly to 59% of 2 GB used, but after doing what you said it only goes up to 18%. Secret preferences... hmm.
I'll check for an update to Keylight as well. I had checked the Foundry web site briefly, but didn't find much.

  • "crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in ripple" after effects cs5

    hi comrades,
first, apologies for such a long post but I thought better to give as much detail as possible.
afx cs5 keeps crashing when trying to render a high quality quicktime.
I've rendered the whole timeline several times at quarter resolution no probs.
it is a large canvas (2 x HD projection). I'm trying to render a high quality 1440 px preview render.
    I get
"crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in ripple"
even though the crash is happening 10-20 seconds before the layer containing the ripple effect appears in the timeline
so I make sure of the following
"Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously" is unticked
secret preferences purge every 1 frame
    also preferences/preview/ unticked "Enable OpenGL"
and then try rendering just the 1 or 2 seconds where the crash occured - bingo it worked.
so I set the whole time line rendering again and it crashes a few seconds earlier than last time with the message
"crash in progress. Last logged message was <4140 <GetDepthPinFlags> <5> 2:24bit"
there is a bit of stock footage in there. its not an unusual codec, just photo jpeg. 24 bit
I tried turning those stock footage layers off, now I'm getting the previous crash message
"crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in ripple"
again, this crash happens around 10 seconds before the layer containing the ripple effect appears in timeline
there is a very high res 3d layer in the comp which the camera zooms into. I thought this maybe causing it.
although this layer ends around 38 seconds. twice I have watched the render get past the 40 second mark and then crash with one of the above errors.
Yet when I open the resulting quicktime to see where the crash occurred, the quicktime is only 35 or 37 seconds long.
I didn't think that was possible? I just watched it progress to 41 or 42 seconds.
could a large 3d layer and a large canvas be causing this crash prone behaviour in CS5?
Its been a while since I worked on these kind of large canvas projects, but cs4 and cs3 seemed able to handle it.
maybe I'm taking afx 64-bit power for granted and pushing it further than I used to.
using after effects cs 5 v10.0.2.4
intel i7-2760QM CPU @ 2.4GHz (dual quad core)
    16gb Ram
    win7 pro
Graphics Card Nvidia GTX 560M 1.5gb memory
    quick update:
I can live without the ripple effect for now, so I have turned that off and set another render going. I could just as well use wave warp.
It now appears to be rendering at almost the 50 second mark so getting somewhere.
it is just a bit of text with  ripple effect and no other effects.
A combination of the font and the ripple effect not liking each other very much perhaps?
Its also currently rendering an image sequence then I can start rendering again from the point it crashes but this will take a long time as timeline is 4m 30s.
also i need to send a high quality compressed version so I was going to import the high quality quicktime into adobe media encoder.
does AME cs5 allow import of image sequence or do i need to buy cs 5.5?
sorry for multiple questions and thanks in advance
    s

A few things to look at and a few questions to ask:
First, What OS, installed Ram, and what Processor are you running?
Second, why 1440 X ? (this is a non square pixel width project if its 1440 X 1080) The only format that will playback without distortion would be DVCPro HD. If it were my project I'd be working 1920 X 1080 unless there was a very compelling reason to do otherwise.
Third, when you say very high rez 3D layer what do you mean? Only the pixel dimensions matter. Since it's a 3D layer it should be scaled to 100% and at some point in your project the distance between the camera and the high rez still should be somewhere close to the same value as the Zoom value of the camera. IOW, look at this screenshot:
The camera is centered in the world and at 100 pixels in Z, the high rez layer is centered in the world and at 950 in Z, the difference is 850 pixels, the zoom value is 847 pixels, therefore the layer is at approximately 100% scale, is going to look as good as it can look, and no matter what the pixel dimensions are, it's the right size for the composition.
If the high rez layer were closer than the zoom value the effective scale would be higher than 100% and the image would not contain enough pixels. If the high rez layer never got any closer than 2 or 3 times the zoom value (1600 pixels) then the image is too big. This could be causing your crash.
The last thing you should check are the Secret preferences. You find them by going to Preferences>General and holding down the shift key while you click. This will reveal the Disable Layer Cache and Purge settings. Try purging every 2 or 3 frames.
Last of all, AME CS5 should import a JPEG image sequences just fine according to the Docs. It's easy to give it a try. I've never tried myself. CS5.5 should import any type of image sequence. You can also import your AE project directly.
One other thing, you can also pick up an animation codec qt after a crash as well as a photoJpg QT. The movies will be in tact, it's just a little harder to pick up the right frame number.

  • After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in "Looks" URGENT!

My name is Tyler and i'm a Mult-Media Editor in training. Just recently meaning just this project i've been getting this error "After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in “Looks”." every time i try to render. If i try to remove the clip where it messes up and replace it with another it will just mess up in another spot.

I've never had this problem before and hope that someone has a solution to this problem... if so please post an answer. I don't know if its because i put the plug in on all of my clips and then made an adjustment layer with another Magic Bullet Looks or if it's my clips fault but i just dont know what to do.
    -Tyler

It sounds like Looks is only crashing on this project. If that is so then it's most likely a problem with one of your video clips. Either there's a corrupted frame or some other codec glitch that's throwing the errors. I'd suggest replacing footage items with temporary footage. You could even use solids. Replace one at a time, then undo, until you find the footage that's causing the crash. Then either re-compress that footage to another codec or replace it.
If Looks is crashing on every type of footage then you need to pursue other options that are more system related.

  • Crash occurred while invoking brightness

    Hi,
I've been trying to open a project in Ae and once is open it crashes stating: "Error occurred while invoking the Brightness & Contrast plug-in"
I have updated all my softwares and plugins and I still get this message. How do I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Sheyla

Glad you've updated your software, but there's still a ton of information missing to make an accurate diagnosis.  For example, we know nothing about your hardware.  And over the course of time, AE has gotten increasingly finicky -- nay, downright uncooperative --  with certain hardware/OS combinations.
This link contains a barrage of questions, the answers to which will really help us help you:

  • After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking plug-in Classic 3D

I am Adobe After Effects CS6 11.0.4 on a windows 7 64 bit PC with 16gb of ram.  I encounter this error: crash occurred while invoking plug-in Classic 3D when rendering. There was a similar thread stating there exists a fix for this issue for After Effects CC 12.2.1 . That fix does not work for version 11.0.4  Does a similar fix exist for version 11.0.4? Or can we have this fix created for version 11.0.4?

The Adobe download site for AE shows that I am on the latest version.  I also ran the check updates from AE. It also stated that I am on the latest version.  (Adobe - After Effects : For Windows ) What is the latest version that you are referencing?

       I made up a bat file with 8 commands like"  afterfx -m -r ...." .
It will startup 8 AEs and render my work. But when I double the commands with starting 16 AEs,7-8 of them are carshed, says "crash occurred while invoking   effect plug-in"scripting" .
And "After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was:<2312><ASL.ResourceUtils.GetLanguageIDFromRegistry><0>Unable to obtain the User 'Language' registry key at: Software\Adobe\After Effects\10.0\Defaulting to 'en_US'."
I am confused for a few days. Need help here.
    Warm regards

Good question, but I would suspect that the previous instances simply never correctly unload and/or parts of the auxiliary services like dynamiclinkmanager or qt32server remain active/ loaded, ultimately causing a conflicht or simpyl chewing up all your memory...

After Effects error: crash occured while invoking plug-in "looks". (looks 1.4)

  • After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in "particular"

Hi, I was trying to following the Kramer's tutorial "The Ring" in AFx (http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/the_ring/), that involves the use of Trapcode Particular, and all went well..
Then I've customized it, not drawing a circle, but a square, and after a while AFx started to crash very frequently reporting this message:
After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking effects plug in "particular"
this happens only when I work on the compositions with particular plug-in.
I'm working on my "old" iMac OSX version 10.4.11
2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 duo
    1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
with CS3, open GL disabled (because not supported)
    thanks for any help!

I'm guessing that you're running out of RAM.
The system requirements state 2GB as a minimum (I know the page links to CS4, but it seems the CS3 one's aren't available).
Have you made sure to run all necessary updates?
I know you've been able to work with 1GB for awhile, but you've probably been pushing that envelope.
What are your comp specs (frame size, frame rate, etc...)?
Are you trying to view at full res, or lower?
Have you modified your RAM preferences?

  • After effects error: crash occured while invoking effect plug-in

Hey, im using after effects cs6 and everytime i try to change something to my shatter effect (or other effects, mostly shatter) i get the error: after effects error: crash occured while invoking effect plug-in. Please help

Well I only have version CS3, however I got the same error while trying to open Knoll Light Factory plug-in.  I tried several times and it never worked.  I searched and found a couple of 'fixes' but they didn't work (for me).
What did fix my problem, I looked inside the After Effects directory, specifically at C:\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS3\Support Files\(PCI)\Setup\...  - inside this directory is the file 'Setup.exe'.  This setup file is the Adobe After Effects Third Party Content Installer.   I ran this setup file, after it finished doing it's thing, and without rebooting, I opened AE, loaded a project and went to Effects and the KLF plug-in.   I chose it and it opened perfectly without any glitches or errors.  I'm not saying it will work for everyone but it did for me. Not sure if there is any difference in versions as well, like I said, I'm using CS3.  I have since rebooted a couple of times and no problems with AE or the plug-ins (fingers-crossed).

The interactive manipulations in 3D are quite dependent on the display driver for your video card.   I notice yours is a bit out of date:
    >gpu[0].DriverDate="20130829000000.000000-000"
It's possible a newer driver may help.  Visit nVidia.com to facilitate downloading/installing their latest release.
That said, I've also found Photoshop can get flakey once you start working on 3D stuff.  I've had amazing, long sessions where it just worked, and I've had others where it just wouldn't cooperate - doing exactly the same things.
It's then that you start to appreciate the auto-save in the background, but even then once in a while it doesn't auto-recover, so you want to save your work in multiple master files fairly often.
I think the latest version (14.1.2) seems about the most stable for 3D work so far.
