Crashed during update; what to do now?

was asked to update to ios6, but now the iphone won't work, not even recognised by pc. what now?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Powerbook crashed during 10.4.7 install now won't boot!

    Hi everyone,
This is what happened to me on Powerbook G4 17" 1.5Ghz - hope my solution helps someone else... although solution is same as what others are saying - just more to let you know my symptoms
    I installed in this order:
    1) did the 10.4.7 update (64Mb)
    2) powerbook crashed during the update (black/white - you need to turn off your powerbook by using the power button)
    3) a sinking feeling hit my stomach
    4) rebooted - no go - on grey screen again reboot using power button
    5) again
    6) again
    oh sh*t
    1) So put in install disk and run disk utility
    2) oh no - not good
    3) repair permissions - ok that works
    4) repair disk - no go - catalog something or other errors which can't be fixed
I have downloaded the combo update on another PC - burnt the dmg to a CD
then safe boot the Powerbook (hold down shift)
then after like 10-15mins log in
    put CD in
    open dmg
    do combo update
    then restart
then it restarts itself again after the grey screen
and now it's working - well booting and logged in ok
    time to test
    l8r all

Michael, I don't think Apple needs to withdraw the
update at all. The fact that the Combo update fixed
your problem just means that it replaced something in
your system that was missing before you updated with
the decimal updater. The decimal updater will update
a perfect 10.4.5 to 10.4.6 but if there is something
missing in your 10.4.5 the decimal update won't
replace the missing part but just update the parts
    that need to be updated.
So do we assume bad package/patch management.. or maybe insufficient preinstall checks? I think as so many people are having issues apple should withdraw this patch, and only supply the combo patch!
I'm sorry to harp on here, but apple need to get q&a in order. These things shouldn't happen, and if they do,the recovery steps should be clearly defined (and no, re-install isn't recovery, that's last resort stuff). Apple really need to address their many deficiencies in the recovery department... The OsX dvd install disc recovery has some serious issues, like /tmp being read only (that ones a basic!), single user mode not supporting wireless keyboards... and requiring a meta key not on standard usb keyboards to access it...
Oh, and if it's not too much trouble, can someone from Apple please acknowlegde this problem, and at least say they're looking at it... would be nice.

  • PC crashed during update

    Dear Forum users,
Whilst updating the sotware on my iphone 4 my laptop crashed before completing the update. I am now left with a screen with a picture of a USb lead and an arrow to the itunes logo.
When I open itunes my iphone is not recognised and so does not appear as a device. Can anyone help?
    Regards

Before you take it to the apple store, try this first.
open itunes, connect your iphone to your pc, if it was connected before, disconnect it, probably restart your pc, and re-open itunes, re-connect, then put your phone in DFU mode. You should make sure that your iphone should be able to be recognized on your computer before attempting to put it on dfu mode.
To do this, after you connect your iphone to your pc, turn off your iphone. While it is off, hold the sleep/wake (power) button and the home button at the same time for 10 seconds, after this let go of the power button, but continue to hold the home button for 30 seconds, by now, if your itunes can recognize your phone, it will put it into recovery mode, from here, restore your phone.
Keep in mind that if you do put into dfu mode, the screen will remain black so do not be scared if you see it black when it is in recovery mode.
This should work. If it does not, then take it to the apple store for a replacement.

  • Apple tv crashed during update

My apple tv has crashed during an update. I has got stuck on step 1 of 2 preparing to update.
I may have caused this by trying to use during update.
Should i unplug and start over
    Thanks

You are not supposed to use while it is downloading and applying the update. It's very likely to have caused the issue. I don't think you can just unplug and start over, though you may try.
I would suggest grabbing a micro USB cable and restoring in iTunes, which will also download the latest update

Unfortunately a power outage at just the wrong time during updating process means that there is now no alternative but to take device to a Nokia Care point to re-install the firmware.

  • Ipod will not restore crashed during update

ipod crashed on update and will not work. it said to do a restore but I have tryed 2 times and both times the restore didn't work

I just did the install of 2.0.02 last and I had one dickens of a time restoring my library. Here is what happened to me. Right before doing the update it tells you that all of your music, videos etc.. will be removed from the Ipod Touch once the update is done installing. So I found a DVD and burned my library to it. Then I went ahead and did the install. It clean my Ipod Touch clean, but my iTunes library was still intact so I thought all will have to do is resync it but that didn't work. I tried and tried. I disconnected my external HD. Oh yeah by the way this is a new computer that I just bought and last night was the first time I used iTunes on it so I had to populate my library using iGadget.
Anyway, I realized that I didn't have manually manage my iTunes library unchecked I unchecked it and it began to sync the back up copy I had of my library. Did either of you back up your library before installing 2.02? Do you have a place where most of your music is stored outside of iTunes? You cannot have Manually manage library checked it won't restore if you do. Be aware though 96% of my cover art was gone with this restore. How annoying. I don't know if this is the information you were looking for but I hope I have been able to shed some light on the issue.

  • HT1600 Froze during update what do you do

My Apple TV froze during update, I can't turn off. What do I do?

Thanks for the reply. I have always enjoyed your posts.
I figured that I would be looking at a restore event for my ATV3 when the update appeared to have frozen.
So since I had nothing to lose I did a hard reboot on the ATV3. (off and on again)
The device restarted and as expected, the update had not been applied.
Did the update again. ( I was surprised at how long the update process took after the download.)
After the update seemed to have completed, The lone white apple icon blinked off the black screen, the TV/Flat screen via HDMI stayed black/blank. After turning the TV off and on and replugging the HDMI cables and still having a blank screen.  I had no choice.
I did another hard reboot on the ATV3.
System started up with no problems and the update took hold.

  • Bios recovery for HP dv5-1235dx/Vista (64-bit) crashed during update

My HP Pavillion dv5-1235dx which ran windows vista (64-bit) crashed while updating bios (after my old bios was deleted).  I have tried the start+b+power trick to recover but that option did not work.  HP Support suggests to create a usb key to install bios, however I have repeatedly failed in recovering/installing bios because the instructions are very limited. They mention a "create a usb key" option that I have yet to find that would make the key.  After using the HP UEFI BIOS Update SoftPAQ and extracting files from the bios .exe file, I found the following:
1 folder (sp45138) with contents below
    3602F21.fd
    3603F21.fd
    ding (wave sound)
    InsydeFlash (application)
    InsydeFlash (text document)
    iscflash.dll
    iscflash.sys
    iscflashx64.sys
    platform (configuration settings)
So, my questions are as follows:
Where is the mystery "create a usb key" button?
What files should I have installed on my usb drive?
Does anything have to be renamed or formatted?
    Thanks for any help given!

Hello Ceelion21.  I understand you're trying to recover your computer from a failed BIOS flash.
I see this question get asked a lot so I have made sure to bookmark the instructions which I found on another website.  Here is a link.
You should be able to download the BIOS file from HP Support.  I believe you'll need to use an application such as 7-Zip to extract the BIOS file and locate the *.FD file.
If this doesn't work you'll likely need to have the notebook repaired.  If you'd like to inquire about a repair through HP Support and are in the US/Canada you can give them a call at 1-800-474-6836.  If you're in another part of the world you'll need to visit HP Support Worldwide to get your region's contact information.
Let me know the result of the BIOS recovery.  I hope you have an excellent night!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • Crash during update. Now frozen.

Today I began the update of my iPhone, and in the middle of it my computer crashed. After restarting my computer my computer I would get a "USB Device Not Recognized" pop up. Finally, iTunes detected an iPhone in recovery mode, so I began the Restore and Update. As it began to restore my computer once again said "USB Device not Recognized" and now it is stuck in the screen with a USB cable and an iTunes logo, and after a while it just turns off. I've tried it on another computer which recognized it, but updating on that computer would cause me to lose all of my contacts, and the software would've taken hours to download on the slow wi-fi connection. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, I have looked in the device manager and the iPhone isn't listed, and I have checked to make sure Apple Device Manager is started (it is). I have also tried the iPhone with two different chords in three different USB slots. How can I fix this?

    Close iTunes and unplug iphone
Search web and download the 2.2.1 ipsw file.
Go to device manager on PC and delete the USB option for Apple under the hardware options.
    Reboot PC
Plug in iphone and wait for dreaded connection picture
hold power button and home button until apple logo appears
continue to hold home button and release power button until connection picture appears again
Your PC should now find the iphone in recovery mode
Now open iTunes and it will prompt you to restore
Hold the shift button on the keyboard and click the restore button at the same time
This will allow you to browse for the correct ipsw file
select the 2.2.1 file that you downloaded
    your iphone will now restore
Once completed, you will need to resync
Now you are back to square one but at least have a phone that works
Now make an appt at the Genius Bar and make them update it for you
Mine is scheduled for next week

  • Computer crashed during update and now I can't access iTunes Store!

Hi! I was going to update my iTunes to the latest version, but my computer crashed halfway through. Ever since then, I can't access the iTunes store! I don't know whether trying to update it again would fix the issue?
Also, when choosing to update it brings me to the "download iTunes" page, it looks like the page you go to when you first download iTunes, and I don't want it to just download a new iTunes and not update my current one. I don't want it to affect my library.

    Kde wont start correctly.
Any suggestions on how to fix that?

Check which packages those files belong to, and re-install them.
An alternative would be to check /var/log/pacman.log to see which packages were in the crashed upgrade, and reinstall all of them.

  • IPhone crashes during updates requiring restore & going over capacity

During the last two update 7.0.3 and 7.0.4 my phone failed mid update requiring a restore.  This is a major headache.  I am using an iPhone 4S and really don't have the time to keep having to restore the phone which takes a looooong time.
Moreover with the 7.0.4 update the phone mysteriously went from 1GB of space free to 500mb overcapacity.
Since I use my phone near capacity this is a real frustration for me.
Usually during restores if anything I find that the software seems to compact the space used when the apps are reloaded.
    Not this time.
    What happened?

I finally rid the error (Windows Firewall was blocking iTunes).
I did the restore but I'm still getting weird capacity ratings. They are constantly changing too.
Now it says it's not over capacity, but I have 0.36gb to spare - except it won't upload all of my songs and it's stuck at 3600 songs. When my library was 5700 songs.
Then after that, it said that everything was uploaded and I had 14gb to spare, which changes to 13gb to spare depending on when I connect it to my iPhone. (But again, not all of my stuff is uploaded).
So I know there's definitely a problem here, because the over capacity is not consistent.
