My HP Desjet 1050J410 crashes my word processors
My HP Desjet 1050J410 crashes my word processers especially microsoft word 2007 and i can't print anything. i have downloaded lastest printer software from Hp but to no avail. i use XP SP 3. i can scan and make photo copies but crashes word processors. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the 2007 MS word and also done diagnostics checks which replied everything is working perfectly. Please i want help.
Hi @Wapito
From your description, I feel this is an issue with Word. Although you have uninstalled Word and reinstalled, I believe the issue is some how related to the program. Please use the following link and let me know what errors you find; How to view error signatures if an Office program experiences a serious error and quits.
To be sure, let's also run the Print and Scan Doctor, it might help. The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:
Connectivity:
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Source:Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor> www.hp.com/go/tools
If that does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X (), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
I look forward to hearing back from you.

CS2 Tiff files crashing my word processor
I recently upgraded my Photoshop 7 to Photoshop CS2. I've been saving 1 bit line art tiff files for years with Photoshop 7 and there has never been this issue. When I save 1 bit TIF files with CS2, it crashes my word processing software. I'm saving it with all the same settings I used to save them with from v7. Is there some setting I'm missing that can fix this problem? I'm saving my files with the following settings
1 bit 300 dpi
LZW compression
Pixel Order - Interleaved
Byte - IBM PC
With the exception of the 'pixel order' setting, all the other settings are exactly the same. v7 doesn't appear to have that pixel order selection. I have tried many different combinations of these selections without success. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.
My word processor is Arbortext Epic Editor Version 4.1.Hi Chris. Thanks for responding.
I'm not with the I.T. department here at work. The reason I now have CS2 is because the version 7 disc somehow sprouted legs and walked away. (eyeroll) My computer required a reformat and because I wanted Photoshop reinstalled, the I.T. department installed a valid CS2 disc that was sitting on their shelf.
That being said, I'm certain that the bug really lies with BOTH my word processor AND Photoshop CS2. That's why I was hoping someone here might be able to come up with a reason why one version of Photoshop WILL save a file that's usable while another version won't. If the newer version is saving some extra bit of information in the TIF file, what is it and can I possibly get rid of it somehow.
Alternatively, I would need to get my hands on Version 7 somehow. I shudder to upgrade to the lastest version of Photoshop since I worry the problem will still be an issue.
Or, if anyone knows a way to get a 1 bit TIF file out of Adobe Illustrator, that would work too (but I'm quite certain that's impossible) -
WORD 2010 Crashes Opening Word 2007 files
WORD 2010 crashes when opening Word 2007 files. If you save the files in Office 2007 as an RTF file, then open in WORD 2010 and save as a DOCX it works fine. Why can't WORD open legacy documents (these are not big files ~13 pages).
I have tried opening in safe mode, same effect - the doc opens and appears in the WORD window, and then the pop-up appears before you can do anything telling you that WORD 2010 has crashed.Try using Open and Repair on the problem docs.
In the Open dialog, select the file, then click the arrow beside Open and choose Open and Repair
If that doesnt help you may want to check the How to troubleshoot damaged documents in Word 2007 and in Word 2010

Printing to PDF Crashes InDesign, Word, Publisher and more
Hello,
It was recommended by someone in the InDesign forums that I post my issue here, as my problem seems to be spanning through all programs that are capable of printing to PDF.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have 8gb of DDR2 ram in my machine at work. We are running Creative Suite 4.
I am a prepress designer, so much of my day is spent taking customers files, and converting them into printable PDF files for our machines. My problem is that throughout the day, printing to a PDF will completely freeze my computer. In InDesign, when printing to a PDF file, I will get the progress bar that says, "downloading font, flattening image, etc." Usually, when the progress bar gets to "Downloading Procset," a window comes up that allows me to choose a name and location to print my PDF to. Occasinally, InDesign will completely freeze up at this point, with no option to save. The only thing I can do at this point it end the program through the task manager. When this happens, it also affects Word, Publisher, etc. I can get all the way to the print dialog box, but as soon as I click on Properties, the entire thing freezes up. Sometimes this issue starts from InDesign as described, and sometimes it originates in Word, Publisher, etc.
Even after closing and reopening the programs, I cannot print to a PDF. My only solution is to completely restart my computer. I have been doing this 4-8 times a day for 2-3 months now.
I did some digging, and found that once the PDF printing fails, it puts a document in my PDF printer queue called "Local Downlevel Document." It shows the status of this file as Spooling, and I am not able to delete or cancel the job. It's properties show as 0 byes, 0 pages, datatype raw, and processor Winprint.
I've gotten suggestions to Export to PDF or print to postscript and distill. While these fixes work after the PDF printing fail, it still does not return functionality to any of my other programs that require PDF printing.
Another issue that arises when this happens, is that I cannot print any PDF file to any physical printer. When I open a PDF file, and click print, it instantly freezes. This, as well, is fixed by restarting.
There is no pattern to when this happens. It seems to be completely at random.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance! This is a user to user forum, not Adobe support
That means that the only way someone is going to be able to help is if they have experience with your software and how Acrobat intereacts
I can't help, but hopefully someone will come along and read your message who is able to help
I do not see that you posted your exact version and update level for Acrobat
Since Win7 64bit is still fairly new, you MAY have a problem of not having the latest Acrobat update... and you may also have something like an out of date video driver -
Office:Mac '08 Crash in Word after adding pictures
I have documents that are text and photos - some pdf and some jpeg. I have been using the same template for 2 years.
All of a sudden, I can edit the text and save the document normally, but if I add a PDF, the next time I try to save the document, Office:Mac crashes.
I have reinstalled Office:Mac and my computer is updated. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?Just reinstall Office. Use the uninstaller in the MS Office folder to remove the corrupt preference files that are creating the crashes. And, iMacRDQ has the right idea. Pages is a much better app. Actually, the whole iWork suite is much better than MS Office.
A little note about repairing permissions: It is only applicable for Apple software and not for third party stuff, especially anything made by 'that other company'. -
I am not computer savvy, so if you answer, please be slow and deliberate. thanks!
Was having Adobe shockwave/flash problems while running Chrome, which is not completely unheard of. Restarted my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8), which included a software update (though I'm not sure exactly what programs were updated).
Now Chrome will not run at all. Every time I start, it crashes immediately. Have tried SEVERAL times to trash/download it, but the same version seems to keep appearing in my Applications folder. Have also tried trashing the Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome folder to no avail. Appears back in its place after dragging it to the trash.
In addition, Adobe flash videos for Safari and Firefox (which I just downloaded as a tester) also will not work. Each attempt to update Adobe Flash also ends in a crash. And now I've discovered the same for everything Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). The program shuts down and the Microsoft error message appears breifly, followed by the same crash "Mircrosoft Word Error Reporting Quit Unexpectedly" box.
Again, have tried several times to download Chrome & Adobe Flash to no avail. All system updates have been made to date. What to do next?Has your computer started running slowly as well? Everything taking forever to work?
if so, this is the same type of issues I'm having. -
Faulty MS Word file crashes entire system
So I do not expect a fix, I even doubt that anyone here knows how this is possibel, but I'd like to put it out there. How is it possible for a faulty MS Word file (which works fine on my Win7 system) can bring down my entire OSX system? Symptoms are as follows. Word hangs, all other apps start hanging, OSX looses server connections, OSX hangs and does not relaunch when choosing to do so under Force Quit forcing me to press and hold the power button to shut down the computer. In my opinion this should not be possible. It is after all just a word processing file. It can also happen by just selecting the word file in Finder. So it can even crash OSX just by asking for a file preview.
Best regards
Guy Rossetand here is a Word spindump from this AM from the same type of crash:

Hello
Last night I updated to 10.4.7.
It isn't buggy at all. For the first part of the day everything seems te be normal (Entourage, Excel, Firefox, GraphicConverter, Acrobat.
But when I openend Word and edit some old text I recognised a strange behaviour. I got message from all the programms that are open in background that they unexpectedly. The last Program that crashes is Word. Then the finder crashed and rebootet with a (mac) bluescreen.
After a reboot the same problem!
After a reboot and a permission repair with the harddisk utilty program still the same problem.
So I would suggest that the ßeta-testers has done a very bad job (and also the quality control of Apple)
I don't know if the problem also occured on a PPC Mac. I own an Intel MacBook ProWelcome to Apple Discussions!

Why does Photoshop crash Word?
Hi
I'm running Photoshop CS5 (version 12.0.4 x64) on Windows 64 bit, and I'm having a strange problem to which I've not been able to find the solution. When I start up PS, if MS Word is open, nine times out of ten Word will crash. Word doesn't tell me why, and I can't understand what the connection between the two programs might be. Does anyone have any ideas?
FYI, my machine is an i7-2600 with 12 Gb RAM, so memoryand speed shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks for any thoughts or advice.
PeterThat did not give any additional info so at am a loss for answers.
Perhaps someone else has an answer.
Crashes in PS are usually cased by drivers, or fonts.
Not a computer geek to determine what kind of a tie there would be between the two porgram. But perhaps an unusual font in Word? -
Selection/Range.MoveEndUntil crashes word when encountering a comment
have a word add-in that manipulates selected text by reformatting it in various ways (specifics not important). One function not only manipulates the selected text, but also expands the range to include text prior to the users selection up until the previous
line break. Code:
Dim rng As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Range = sel.Range
With rng
.MoveEndUntil(Cset:=vbCrLf, Count:=Word.WdConstants.wdBackward)
End With
End If
So this code has been working great, unless there are comments in the range that is being expanded into, in which case word crashes without triggering any sort of error in visual studio. After experimentation, I've concluded it's the vbCrLf Cset that breaks
when it encounters a comment, since if I .MoveEndUntil a random string (i.e. "123") it moves past a comment just fine. My best guess is that the special character word inserts at comment points is interfering with vbCrLf, but I'm at a loss of how
to avoid the issue. I've also tried vbNewLine, but that produces the same problem. Mainly because in office vbCrLf = vbNewLine.
I could delete all comments in the documents, or deactivate the function if any comments exist, but it will really inhibit functionality for the end user. Any help appreciated.Hi SJLD,
I've reproduced this problem, it'll also crash the Word application in VBA code. This only happens when Count=wdBackward, not for wdForward. I think this might be some unknown issue. I'll involve some other engineer into this case. If there're any updates,
we'll come back.
Thanks for your understanding.

Com.apple.GeForceGLDriver crashing after SL - ML upgrade
I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I ran into some issues with duplicate fonts crashing MS Word and fixed that. Then Mountain Lion installed an update (must have been the most recent one) and now Google Chrome and MS Word are crashing with rather similar looking errors. There is an EXC_BAD_ACCESS occuring in the com.apple.GeForceGLDriver library. Not sure how to address the issue. I have searched quite a bit for crashes involving that driver but have so far come up empty handed. Thanks for any help. Here are the crash details (abbreviated - let me know if I need to post then entire thing). This crash occurs when I try to open files with MS Word and rather sporadically with Google Chrome - though GMail and Google Voice seem to be highly correlated to the crashes. That is, I can run Chrome and begin browsing. Sometimes I can even leave Gmail open for a long time, but eventually the crashing starts and it just doesn't seem to end until I stand up and vocally declare allegiance and undying love to all Apple products everywhere. It helps to sacrifice a penguin on my keyboard too.

I've owned a MPB for 13 months and for 13 months it's been nothing but headaches.
I know that to other Mac users this sounds negative because Apple products are cool, but my experience with my MPB has been nothing but negative.
I've written to the Cupertino office, I've written to the Apple store where I purchased this unit, and am currently waiting for an answer (been about ten days since i mailed out copies of problem logs and description of problems).
One trip to genius bar = zero resolution.
Two apple care calls = zero resolution.
Countless inquiries on the forums = zero resolution.
Safari hangs and crashes.
Word will lock up really badly. The other day I had a doc opened, started a new doc, it took my MPB 17 seconds to start a new doc.
XL will lock up though not as much (and I don't use it as much).
I'm a blogger, so I use Safari and Word from morning to night.
This morning no video (vimeo, youtube, other video types) would play on Safari.
On safari some weird flickering of different color panes sometimes occurs. Sometimes I get some grey vertical bars across.
When I go full-screen while watching Netflix the screen goes dark, I have to refresh the page, restart the movie.
If anyone has a suggestion as to what to do, please help me.
These problems have been present since day one. This was a unit which was an exchange. The first MPB I got from the Tysons Corner store in Virginia had a graphic card on the fritz, I returned it after 3 days.
Can anyone understand my frustration?
Ali NaderzadHi
I'm not using Tiger so I don't know the terminology used in OnyX's Tiger version. Anyway, the steps are in the Automation panel. I believe "maintenance scripts" is used in both versions. Not sure about the caches. Have a look at this post for explanations.
If the above doesn't help, I suggest you start a new thread, as your issues may be different than the originator of this thread. Include a copy of the entire crash report (note: If the crash report says "hang", then OnyX is usually the remedy.) Otherwise, select "report" on the quit panel, then copy/paste the entire crash report to your post in the new thread. -
Word keeps crashing whilst I am working from a document, and using formatting tools. Below is the accompanied error report. It also says that it will attempt to recover my work, but never does. Would anyone know why this is happening and what I can do about it? Thank you.

Total errors on this client: 15I am a newby to the mac. I experienced many crashes with Word for the Mac with a VBA program in Word.
I don't believe these crashes are an error in Microsoft but are due to a bug in the Mac.
Of all those numerous crashes I kept the log file as generated by the Word, similar to that here above.
I noticed that all those crashes occur on or around the same time.
I know, the following sounds weird, but give it a chance.
Your crash was on 19 minutes past an hour.
I had 3 crashes on 19 minutes past an hour.
Here is my list of crash time. I think this is at least remarquable.
Well, perhaps someone knows something about maths and can calculate whether this is just a coincidence.

First when I installed it the start up window (That pops up after the installation) crashed. This I didn't bother about to much, thought that my computer may have been slow or something.
But then after I installed the updates (The Itunes 7.5 and such) and restarted I opened "System Preferences" I went to "Spaces" and it crashed. (I mean that System Preferences Crashed).
Ever since then this has happened about 5 more times.
Then Yesterday and today, I tried opening "Dashcode" this has also crashed about 5 times.
The following programs have also crashed:
Microsoft Word -About one time it crashed the computer when I was trying to choose a printer.
Skype-2-3 times, mainly when I try to quit or hang up
Safari-I think it quit once
Time Machine-Froze my computer.....
Also, I have Photoshop Elements and Appleworks, both of these no longer work and crash on opening.
Please help!
Thank you. This forum and other sites are full of information that details what works, what doesn't, what soon will, and what never will.
Open and run Activity Monitor (in your Utilities folder), it will show you how far you can push the issue, and that will be directly related to the amount of installed RAM.
