Crashes in video editing mode
I just downloaded Premiere Elements and it won't open on my MacBook. Every time I try, I get a message saying "Adobe Premiere Elements Editor quit unexpectedly." Any suggestions?
Thank you for the tips. I downloaded the Adobe updates and also removed several fonts that didn't pass the validation test.
I uninstalled Premiere Elements and reinstalled it, checked for udpates again, but am still getting the same message: "Adobe Premiere Elements Editor quit unexpectedly." The program won't open.
I'd return it if I could but Amazon won't let me.
Do you have any other suggestions for me to try? I appreciate your help!

Premiere Pro cs6 keeps crashing when im editing or rendering a video
When I am on Adobe Premiere Pro cs6 every 10-20 mins it crashes when im editing a video, it crashes more often when im rendering it (export media, ctrl+M). I dont mind when it crashes while im editing because i save the file regularly but when im rendering its a problem, it probably because the file is too big as i use dxtory to record skyrim but this is an expensive product so it should be able to render. I encode the file once ive chosen the format and stuff for the video and it says finish rendering in 50 mins or so and when it gets to like 4% rendering it says not responding. It then troubleshoots but then says 'close program'. this is very frustrating, please can someone help me. I've looked through the forums but i dont uinderstand many of the solutions as im not that good at computers
here are my computer specs:

Every time I open a photo in Edit mode and then try to move to another photo, either by clicking the "next" arrow or by clicking on another photo in the bar at the top of the screen, iPhoto simply crashes.
Any ideas why?
I only have 256mb of memory, but I cannot believe that can be the problem...can it?!
I have about 1100 photos in iPhoto, all quite high large (but no RAW files), but it does it even when I'm Editing a folder with five photos in it...Hi Alastair. Don't be embarrassed. There's always something new to learn and thankfully usually someone out there who's come across your problem before. Can't help you with your original problem, but I can say iPhoto 5 does seem more inclined to quit expectedly, more than version 4. I've taken to quitting manually at key points if working on a big job. (A bit like saving regularly on a pc.) When you get the option to file a report, I tend to send one off as the more they get, the more likely they are to take note and fix it.
As for your hard disk question: click the apple (top left), click "about this mac", click more info, click ATA, That will open a list. One of the 2 options will show your HD capacity and available space.

Lk 6.2 Crashes when you "Save All" in edit mode
From Lk 6.2 bugs post. Thought this needs it's own thread.
I've had lots of crashes after "Save All" menu command while in edit mode. Recently, the crashes were all after draging display objects to panels and/or copying objects between panels. It is very repeatable. Exiting edit mode prior to saves prevents crashes.
Ryan, can you confirm this and put on your fix list?
Ed
Message Edited by erblock on 04-29-2009 10:53 PMEd,
I tried to drag some displays and save all, but could not reproduce the crash.
Have you tried to create a new process or load different process to repeat the crash? Maybe the crash is related to certain kind of process, or related to a certain object?
If possible, could you upload your process to ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming? The crash is more critical which should not happen in any situation.

Multiple Hard Drives for Video Editing with Premiere Elements 8?
I'm using Premiere Elements 8 for video editing. These are the specs I'm using:
The camcorder I used to shoot the footage is a Sony Handycam with model number HDR-SR12. It's a digital HD video camera recorder that shoots in NTSC 1920x1080i HD recording. The footage was shot with AVC HD 9M (HQ), which records in higher image quality mode. The video camera is connected to my computer through a USB cable.
The computer itself is a Windows 7 desktop computer. The CPU is an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-150f PC with Intel Core i7-860 processor. I imported the video into Premiere by selecting "File" --> "Get Media From" and then choosing the third option from the top.
My import option is NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD 1080i 30 5.1 channel, which matches the specs of the camera I shot the footage with.
Even with the patch 8.0.1 that should be preventing crashing, the program keeps crashing upon startup with one specific video project. Using the exact same video files for that project, I recreated the video, with Elements, and never ran into the problem. Both times, I had the patch installed.
At the moment, I am using only the single internal hard drive for everything (software, OS, video editing, etc.). It is 1 TB in size. However, I am informed that one hard drive is not recommended for video editing, and that I need at least two hard drives, one for OS and one specifically for video editing. I was also informed of FireWire 800 and eSata; however, it does not appear that my computer supports eSata.
Can this problem be resolved if I have an external hard drive and connect it to my computer with FireWire 800 (which the computer supports)? If not, what can be done so this problem doesn't arise in the future?
Thanks for the help.staring-into-space wrote: My import option is NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD 1080i 30 5.1 channel, which matches the specs of the camera I shot the footage with.
When you import the footage is there a red line across the whole of the timeline?

As you have the recreated project working fine I'd be inclined to put this down as a one-off glitch. If it happens again on a different project then it may be more worrying. You may want to consider using save-as to create multiple versions of your project (note this does NOT duplicate the source clips - so you won't be eating up much extra disk space). You could for example use save-as to create a daily version - ProjectName-Mon, ProjectName-Tue etc....

CS3 mediacore issue. (Editing modes/plugins)
Hi, I've been having an unresolved issue the past couple days. I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I looked up my problem on different boards but I haven't found one similar to mine.
So I own a macbook pro, running on a Mac OS X version 10.6.3, and I have Adobe After Effects CS3. So far, my main issue is with the "mediacore" plugins at the start-up. Sometimes it crashes and sometimes it says "failed to initialize mediacore." I tried checking this problem out by looking inside what's in the Mediacore folder. So I viewed my plug-ins folder and then went inside the Mediacore. In the folder, I found a subfolder called "Editing Modes" and it contains an "Adobe Editing Modes.xml" and under the subfolder, is a list of the next following:
- CompilerQuickTime.bundle
- ImporterAiff.bundle
- ImporterFastMPEG.bundle
- ImporterFlash.bundle
- ImporterMP3.bundle
- ImporterMPEG.bundle
- ImporterQT.bundle
- ImporterWave.bundle
- PlayerMac.bundle
I tried to delete only "Editing Modes" folder and leave the bundle files in place. Afterward, After FX started up properly without crashing. It just gave me an error saying "failed to initialize mediacore" and then the program worked. The only problem with this is, I wasn't able to import any movies or mp3's. They're all grayed out. I wasn't able to drag and drop videos or sounds either. They just didn't work.
So, I undeleted "Editing Modes" and I deleted the bundles. The same thing happened. THE ONLY difference is, when I leave Editing Modes and the bundle files in the folder together, the whole program crashes at start up. So the program works only with one or the other deleted.
Ugh, I don't know what the problem is exactly! I also have QuickTime Pro 7 installed and I have QuickTime X.
Does anyone have a solution??
Also I'm able to export PNG's (seems to be the only workable files) out as quicktime movies, but I can't import. Importing is my only problem.Something is severely busted. I'm afraid you will have to reinstall the app and also have to reinstall Quicktime. Also of course do the usual and run a Repair permissions to fix any potential file access issues, trash the AE prefs and clean out the media cache manually. Location of folders here.

Hi everyone! I downloaded CS6 for a graphic design class that I was taking. I later found out that you could edit videos with the essentials portion of CS6 since it no longer has to be extended like in CS5. I went to import some videos from bridge and bridge would not allow me to do so. I also tried to open the files in Photoshop and I as I was looking at the type of files that I could open like quicktime files, wmv., mov., etc., I could not find anything relating to opening videos. The only thing that showed up were types of image files to open. Did I buy a faulty version of this program? Is there a way to get the video editing feature back on here or do I have to breakdown and buy Photoshop essentials separately?
Thank you!Try dropping the video file on CS6 it should open. Maks sure CS6 is up to date. Version 13.0.6 Mac version 13.0.1.3 Windows Version 13.1.2 subscription. Also post you CS6 menu Help>System Info... Copy and paste here. You can see have the subscription version and use Windows 7....

Can't view photos in edit mode
Hello,
I just upgraded to iPhoto '08, and while I can view all my thumbnails ok, the photos themselves won't load at all in edit mode.
I was using iPhoto to try to"jumpstart" my iWeb (per my other help request in another topic) when I noticed this.
I have Leopard 10.5.2, iPhoto 7.1.2 and a 1.8 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM in my upgraded G4 tower. I tried deleting the preferences file, rebuilding the library file, opening in another account, etc, with no luck. I had even just erased my hard drive and cleanly re-installed Leopard, etc. with still the same problems in both apps. Do I just need to add more memory perhaps? I can't think of anything else...?Does Leopard require much more memory than Panther (which I had before) to run properly?
Thanks,
PaulI've had the what sounds like the exact same problem with iPhoto '08. I, too, have an upgraded 1.8 GHz G4 (AGP Graphics) running OS 10.5.3 (although the original installation was 10.5.1 and the same problem occurred before the software updates). When I try to edit a photo, the edit window opens but no picture appears. Clicking on the various editing tools and manipulating them (blindly, on a blank screen) shows that editing is actually taking place, and that changes can be saved.
An earlier post of mine concerned the first problem I noticed since my OS and processor updates; namely, that the DVD player app won't work, but instead returns an error message saying that a valid device could not be found for playback. Several responses to that post seemed to suggest that the ATI Rage 128 video card might be the culprit and that it would need to be replaced. In the past week I've been on the phone or in email contact with tech support people at ATI, Sonnet, Other World Computing, and Apple, the last being the least knowledgeable of all of them, I'm sorry to say.
The Sonnet guy personally runs a computer just like mine, but with the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac video card. That item costs $209 at OWC. But ATI says it won't work because of the G4's 200 power supply.
These folks think that the iPhoto problem would be solved by the new video card -- but I'm not yet convinced I want to spend that kind of money to find out. Most also say that the DVD Player issue would be fixed, although the OWC guy says it has nothing to do with it.
So we're going blind here, with much conflicting expert opinion. I'll keep watching for further discussion.

Hi there!
Just received delivery of a Lenovo G550 with the following spec:
2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo,
4GB (DDR3 - 1066Hz) RAM,
500GB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce G210M (512MB)
Windows 7
The entire purpose for buying this laptop, was for video editing and it is the best spec I could find for my needs and budget.
So what's the problem?
1) Windows 7 is installed as 32-bit, not 64 bit. Why is this? I was given no choice in this decision.
2) Only 2.96GB of that juicey RAM is being used by Windows 7. I need as much RAM as possible for video editing.
3) Lenovo sent NO install disc. - When I eventually get a virus or my HDD fails, I have NO WAY to clean install the very product I have just purchased! (A laptop with Windows 7 OS).
Considerations:
As I understand it (please comment if there are alternative views on this); The 64-bit architecture is only useful for compatible software which has been designed to run 64-bit.
The video editing software I use is "Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0"
The suggested problems with Windows 7 run as 64-bit include:
* Possible lack of driver compatibility support.
* Possibility of 32-bit programs running SLOWER in 64-bit environment, than their native 32-bit environment.
* Higher running temperatures & processor cooling issues.
* No performance gains for all other programs running as 32-bit (email, internet browser, etc).
The suggested advantages with Windows 7 run as 64-bit could be:
* Full utilisation of the 4GB RAM. (Presently limited to 2.96GB)
* Faster rendering and video editing tasks in 64-bit environment.
Questions:
4) How can I get an install disc for Windows 7? Shouldn't this come with the computer?
5) Do you think the potential hassle and architecture conflicts are worth suffering, to get the reported performance gains of 64-bit architecture and the remaining unused RAM?
Thank you for any help and advice!contact lenovo support line for windows 7 dvds, but make sure if they send recovery dvds instead of windows 7 dvd.
most of people are having trouble with installing windows and drivers, so companies has found as this as solution to send recovery dvd -if asked- or using hidden partition to recovery system - like one key recover - instead of.
but if you ask me, they need to send dvds.
i'll contact the mods and admins about this issue, please stay connected to this post.

Best Monitors for Video editing?
Hey guys. I'm looking at an NEC monitor for editing my stills, and am wondering if this will be suitable for video editing?
Models I'm considering are:
http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa241w-bk
http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa242w-bk
http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa271w-bk
These monitors are great for stills, as they cam emulate paper types well, but do I need a more "vibrant" monitor for video? Just worried that my video will look a bit off on these monitors, as it's such a different medium?
If they aren't suitable, what brand/models are considered good? (Professional level).
Cheers,
BenHey Fuzzy, sorry about the format of this reply. Not sure to quote on here the way you did. Your points are addressed numerically.
1. I haven't seen the user manuals, but using http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa271w-bk for example, under color gamut, there's no mention of Rec709. Compare that to: http://www.eizo.com.au/products/coloredge/cg276/index.html#tab02, under preset modes. Not to mention this entire page: http://www.eizo.com/global/solutions/graphics/video_editing_and_post_production.html.
Just seems like NEC isn't playing up their video editng credentials, and I wonder why?
If you can link me to a user manual for any of the above models, which shows that it ships with Rec709 I'd appreciate it.
2. I couldn't find that artcle, unless you mean: http://www.videomaker.com/article/15133-nec-multisync-pa271w-color-correct-lcd-display-rev iew. In any case, I meant NEC's marketing.
This page has nothing: http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa271w-bk
The incedibly detailed marketing PDF here: http://www.nec-display-solutions.com/p/download/pr/File/cp/Products/LCD/Shared/Brochures/P DF-PASeries.pdf?fn=PASeries.pdf actually contains the phrase "A range of Professional Desktop Displays that are ideal for users in the Photography and Media, Architecture, Engineering, Industrial Design and Precision CAD fields. " (No mention of Video, although it is the first NEC document mentioning "Built in Rec-BT709")
You have to understand that for a comsumer such as myself, not spelling these things out is going to make me look for answers. Or go to a company that does spell it out.
3. Got it, thanks.
4. I think I get that. I'll read the article. But... do these NEC monitors comply? -
Have purchased a new computer but can not install elements 12 since it has been installed on an older laptop. This is a one time user program, is there a code that can be put in or a small fee to pay to be able to use the program again. Never installed the video editing and hoping this can be installed with no problem.
If the laptop is still connected Launch Elements in Expert Mode. Go to the help menu and sign-out. That will deactivate usage on the laptop.

Is the Dv7t or ENVY better for gaming and video editing?
Hello everyone!
I currently own a Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition notebook PC and have had it since December 2009. Ever since the beginning, my dv7t has always gotten incredibly hot when playing the simple online game RuneScape, and, quite frankly, whenever I would do... anything. Now, however, it will not turn on past the Windows OS introduction 80% of the time and the wireless detector will rarely work. Instead of sending it in for a massive repair fee, I think I'll just buy a new laptop.
So my question is: Which laptop is better for playing Runescape, video editing with Sony Vegas Pro, and general web surfing, word processing, etc: The Pavilion dv7t or the Envy 17? Do you have any information on how hot they get? I would really appreciate all support.Hi,
Check the configurator as both can be configured with the 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2820QM (2.3 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz.
Split your monitor screen and put on model in each window and walk thru the configurators and pick chose your desired options noting the change in price.

Save film in editing mode on external drive?
I've been making informational videos using iMovie. I save all the raw footage so I can remake it later if needed.
But, is there a way to save the project in it's editing mode and still remove it from iMovie (to an external drive)? That way I could get if off my computer and still be able to bring it back into iMove, make a few changes, and "share" it again without having to rebuild the whole thing from the raw footage.
Yes, this is a weird question and I guess the answer is NO! I ask because these projects take up so much of my hard drive that I need to get them off as soon as I complete them.
I suppose the other question would be whether it was possible to work in iMove off an external drive, like one does when storing iTunes off the main drive in a computer.
Probably should have got the 1T drive on the iMac, but I fear that even that would fill up too quickly with these projects.
Thanks so much for any input. Are you using the latest version of iMovie (version 10)?
It supports multiple libraries and external drives so what you describe is entirely possible.

Any way to change speed of a clip in "over-write edit" mode?
I want to change the speed of a clip in the timeline without having to lock all the other tracks or having to move the other following clips out of sync. For example I have a clip which lasts for 1 sec, which I want to change to 3 secs. Normally when I do this in the timeline the other clips on the same video tracks which follows, will move their position..... How to change speed in "over-write edit mode"?
I think it's even easier to just match frame the "source file"... put your playhead on the clip you want to speed change in your sequence. Then type optioncmdf. Perform the speed change in the Viewer, then simply cut it in... Might help to put it up above the older, use the double arrow selection tool facing right to move the clips past this change later... pull the upper track speed changed clip down over the old, and viola.
Gotta say though, it's a lot easier to perform the speed change in the Viewer, and edit it all in as you go rather than doing it after you've put the clip in a sequence. (not always possible to determine what the speed change should be maybe, but sure easier.... FCP 7 handles this problem a lot better for sure, and worth the upgrade price if your machine is compatible.

Sequencing Screen Captures in Edit Mode
I've used Camtasia alot and am transitioning to Captivate. To
test recording and editing in Captivate, I recorded one minute of
screen activity to simulate capturing an application demo. When I
end the recording, it converts the recording to thumbnails and puts
them in Storyboard mode but also chunks it into slides that I can
not sequence in Edit Mode. I get 10 seconds chunks and I can't
figure out how to put them together to make one sequence. Do I have
a wrong setting? Any help is greatly appreciated.Hi Jennifer and welcome to our community
This isn't intended to slam or highlight either product, only
to point out differences.
Camtasia captures full motion from the onset. Captivate
captures individual screen shots and places them on slides.
Captivate does do full motion capture, but it's not intended to be
used like Camtasia's is. For example, you would never want to
surround Windows Media Player using Captivate and record a five
minute video. But you could do this with Camtasia. (copyrights
notwithstanding)
Camtasia allows text captions, but you have to add them after
the fact. Captivate can add these things automatically. Captivate
wins with these hands down, as there is more variety and they look
more polished and professional.
Captivate has only two different output types. .SWF and .EXE.
Camtasia offers a wider selection. Including .FLV (Flash Video) ,
.AVI (Audio/Video Interleave, .WMV (Windows Media), .QT
(QuickTime), .RM (RealMedia).
The Camtasia Timeline represents the entire project.
Captivate's Timeline is per slide.
Camtasia has some neat transitions you may use, but you have
to split the movie manually and it takes a bit of getting used to.
Captivate has a few transitions for slides, but the process seems
more intuitive. At least to me.
Captivate offers three "levels" of audio. Background track,
Slide and Object. Camtasia essentially has two and seems a bit
rigid as opposed to Captivate.
Both products offer quizzing functionality. However,
Captivate's seems more robust and easier to use. At least it does
to me.
Both products record the screen, but as near as I can tell,
Camtasia is unable to record like Captivate does, where you end up
with a simulation. You may certainly add Flash hotspots later, but
Captivate does it for you.
Those are just a few differences I noted. There are many
more. Hopefully this helps give you an idea. Personally, while both
products do essentially the same thing (record the screen) I easily
see a need to have both.
Hopefully this was helpful... Rick
