Crashes w/ fx5600

My friend just got a totally new system and hes having problems w/ crashes As soon as The game Counter-Strike loads.
His mobo is a Gigabyte 7vax-a and of course his FX5600.  He has 1 stick of KVC 512mb pc3200 ram and a barton 2500+ (333mhz)
Now, the ONLY way he can play cs.. is if they set his FSB on the mobo to 100, if it changes it to the automatic function or just manually set it to 166 in the bios - he gets run time errors and crashes like mad when he plays games.
With all the knowledge in this forum here w/ vid cards etc, can anyone think of what may be going wrong?

It happens with pretty much every game... he even froze in 3dmark 2001se once but it actually finished once..  These are his IRQs.
 IRQ 1   Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard   OK

his case is a Antec Lanboy - hes using the 350w psu that comes w/ that case.  I assume its an antec psu and 350w is good for him.
Any ideas?

  • FX5600 with K7N2 DELTA game crash

    I just got  a MSI FX5600 256MB card. It was working fine until I tried to play a new game. The games always crash with this video card. I have tested it on Halo, Age of Mythology, and Prince of Persia (Sands of Time); I like to updated the drivers... and I guess I am having this problem since I update the driver to 56XX, I reinstalled the drivers from the disk... I downloed others from MSI Live Update... but the games are crashing... I know the games are prefect... the mainboard is perfect... but I am not very sure about the video card. Could any one help me to find any solution?

  • FX5600 TD256 - Crash

    Hi all.
    I have asked previously about this problem, thought i had solved but it has come back again
    I use an MSI KT4 Ultra (MS6590) and have updated all drives, Via chipsets and Bios to V1.4.  I also (try to) use the MSI FX5600 TD256.
    The problem is that at different times the screen goes blank and says 'no power output'.  The PC is still running but the CD drives and some but not all fans stop running.
    I thought it may be the PSU?  I use a Thermaltake Silent purepower 480w but from a previous post i had confirmed the PSU was o.k.
    I now have an old Nvidia Riva TNT 2 Pro graphics card installed and this works perfectly fine. I can no longer instal the FX5600 as it will not boot.
    I have read in other forums about the IRQ's & Ram issues.  Can someone advise me fully on how to check the IRQ's and change them if needed.
    The ram i use is Excaliber PC2700 333mhz 2x512 cards.  How do i know if it is this causing problem.
    I hope somebody can help? I can not believe an MSI motherboard causes conflicts with an MSI graphics card even when it states they are compatible.
    There may just be an obvious solution but from the forums i have read so far i can not see one.
    HELP ME PLEASE

    Which are the Fans that are not running?
    Check all the power connectors again.
    Look around the mobo and VGA card for bad caps.

  • Starting to get upset with new FX5600

    OK - I bought a FX5600 yesterday and things seemed OK with a bit of crashing which I figured were teething problems, maybe with drivers (apart from the software thing I've whinged about on another thread). Then I found out that there were these new Detonator drivers out (44.03) so I got them. Then the brown stuff really hit the spinning thing. I can't play anything for more than 30 minutes without a crash now. 'Daikatana' now plays worse than it did with my old GeForce2, even though when I first installed the new card I was bossing UT2003 with full effects. I can't even revert to the old drivers because the install program doesn't recognise my GeForceFX as an NVIDIA chip!!
    I figure it might be to do with IRQ type scary stuff. This is what my device manager shows (repeated lines e.g. IRQ 5 are just as they are shown on screen):
    00 System Timer
    01 Standard 101/102 keyboard
    02 Programmable interrupt controller

    15 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE controller
    15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
    Whew. That took a long time to type. Now, I don't understand IRQ stuff beyond what an interrupt is. I certainly don't know which things are safe to be on the same IRQ slot. But it seems to me that all those repeats can't be right - can they? Mainly though, the graphics card is sharing an IRQ with two other things - is this bad?
    I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this. Is there a problem with my IRQs and if so, what on earth do I do to fix it?
    Many, many thanks in advance.

    Ross,
    APIC is enabled in the BIOS. You do not want to enable since it would mean you would need to install your OS again in order for it to function correctly. On Motherboards with APIC the default is usually enabled. Seeing you do not have it enabled and I am guessing you did not disable it in your BIOS. this makes we wonder if you are running Win98SE or WinME since they do not use APIC? (The only thing you missed listing above in your first post.)
    Here is a little more info direct from Microsoft on APIC:

  • VTDR-128 fx5600 - No Color Red on VGA plug (d-sub port)

    okay, i have a couple other posts here and i've decided to clean up my plea for help a little bit because i've solved the worst of my problems and, being more educated, can explain things a little easier.
    i will recap my experiance now:
    2-3 months ago i bought my spanking new VTDR-128 fx5600 card from a well known vendor.  i was given a period of 2 weeks for vendor RMA, but i waited too long as this card was intended for a system i was building for someone else.  when we finally were able to test it:
    1:  system would crash within five minutes, max.
    2:  no color red output from the monitor plug (d-sub port?)
    3:  bad, horrible artifacting in all games and even during low resolutions 2D windows usage.  after power off, card heatspreader could almost burn my finger if i touched it.
    4:  color looked fine on both tv-out dongle and dvi > CRT adapter that came with the card, if only i could boot for more than a few minutes at a time
    i wish i had taken pictures, but one day, i was convinced the card was "dead" and i decided to take the cooler off and put it on an older card i have.  i carefully removed the cooler front, then back, and noticed on the back, one of the ram chips was a smudge of thermal interface material (in the pins and such, on other components as well)
    i was astonished, i jumped with glee, and spent 45 minutes with a fine bristled brush.  after many inspections with a magnifying glass, and almost half a can of maxell "blast away" canned air, i put the card in my computer, re-loaded the newer drivers, installed all the msi software, and proceeded to run benchmarks!
    i was so happy i could pee my pants.  somewhere in the manufacturing process i think something got a little messed up and the thermal paste was smudged.  even with hefty overclocks the cooler doesnt feel NEARLY as hot as my old ti4200.
    many people have been disappointed with performance from this card, but i am very impressed!  i was able to run halo before at ~20-30FPS, now i'm getting 50 and things are much prettier.  its added 4000-6000 to my aquamark score, and i went from 11000 to 16000 in 3Dmark2001SE.
    the reason i'm posting again is because i want the vga plug to work.  nview dualview does not work with the DVI adapter and i use my TV for gaming.  so if i want to game i have to deal with the monitor having no color red.
    this card has been tried now in 3 systems, with 3 different monitors and the color RED is not visible on any (with the vga plug (d-sub))
    i am forced to believe nothing is wrong with my system, and it relies solely on a mistake made in manufacturing.  the card overheated and crashed and burnt before i took the heatspreader off, after cleaning the paste off it works perfectly.
    so, maybe GlennVidia will be kind to tell me if:
    MSI will help me fix or issue a replacement.  i doubt this has happened too many times before, i am probably one out of a million buying a graphics card with this mistake.
    i've made many attempts at contacting MSI support, and i've read through faqs and KB so many times i could write an encyclopaedia.
    do you think MSI would even admit a mistake, i am betting that first they just tell me "i voided my warranty".  that makes me want to cry!  i emailed them 5 times so far, and they only tell me to "RMA with vendor" and "test in another systems" even after i explained everything...
    ::sigh::
    i'd do anything to get this card working, i love it regardless of it's redless vga!

  • K7N2-GM2 - random crashes - BIG PROBLEM

    Hi!
    I am having some major issues with my latest backup-machine that I try to build.
    Here are the specs:
    MSI K7N2-GM2 soc.A VGA, LAN, 1394
    AMD Sempron 2800+
    512MB PC3200 Kingston
    Seagate 80GB S-ATA
    LiteON DVDRW
    Chieftec 360w PSU
    Now the problem:
    Everything POST's fine, I go into BIOS, set everything like it should be... everything is stock, nothing is OC'd (FSB:RAM = 1:1 / 166:166)...
    And then problems start... if i want to install windows, everything just stops... you know that portion of the installation when Setup loads the first driver that are needed to start the installation (the first portion of the setup right after the message SETUP IS INSPECTING YOUR COMPUTER CONFIGURATION)... then when those driverload, the screen SHOULD appear asking me if I agree blablabla... but NO!!! Computer hangs with that blue screen with the folowing text on the bottom "SETUP IS STARTING WINDOWS"... and wouldn't go further than that...
    Then I hit RESET button and start setup again, and then, instead of that blue screen I get BLANK SCREEN... but the monitor does NOT go into standby... the light stays green (yellow when in standby) but computer freezes...
    Then I hit RESET again and this time setup starts fine and FINISHES fine... the whole setup process goes without ONE SINGLE ERROR...
    And then, when Windows start, I get the desktop and PUFFFF... blank screen again... like I shut down the monitor (but I didn't and it is ON)...
    Then I hit reset again, and this time Windows start fine and I can do whatever I want with it until I decide to rebot again... if I reboot, it will free just after the Welcome screen... blank screen again... just when desktop should appear, I get the blank screen...
    Another words, I can start Windows normally only every 3rd or 4th time... every time I have to hit RESET button to reboot cos CTRL-ALT-DEL doesnot work...
    Everytime I get this blank screen, everything freezes... it is not like only the picture disappears... the whole system stops...
    I reinstalled Windows 4 times already, and every single time I had trouble starting the setup, and after 3-4 tries, the setup starts and finishes without an error... and then those booting problems start again...
    This is what I have tried sofar:
    - reinstall Windows
    - 3 different PSU's (all good brands)
    - tried 2 sets of RAM (KingMAX, Kingston) - I am using 2-sided RAM
    - tried testing both DIMM slots in both dual channel and singe channel mode
    - tried installing the 2 video cards (MSI FX5600, Leadtek A6600-TD) so the computer doesn't have to use onboard graphics
    - tried installing Windows on ATA100 drive instead of S-ATA
    - tried with different set of S-ATA and ATA cables
    - tried lowering CPU/RAM freq. to 133MHz and 100MHz
    - tried rasing CPU/RAM freq. to 200MHz
    - tried with another CPU (Barton 2500+) - on both CPU's temperature never exceeds 40'C
    - tried rasing RAM voltage to 2.8 (default is 2.7)
    - tried lowering RAM voltage to 2.6
    - all BIOS shadowing is disabled
    - all BIOS gadgets are disabled (sound, LAN, 1394, USB)
    - tried updating BIOS to the latest version
    - clearing CMOS 3 times
    And after all that testing I just confirmed my presumption... MOTHERBOARD...
    Now you ask yourself, why I did all that testing... because the local MSI dealer would not RMA the board cos they say that those symptoms are RAM related and that it is NOT THE BOARD PROBLEM... I already returned one board with similar symptoms, and got the new one... I sold the old components separately so I don't have to use them on the new board... I bought brand new CPU, RAM, HDD, DVDRW, PSU and the case... and problem occurs again...
    So my only guess is either they didn't give me the new board, or the whole shipment of the boards is rubish...
    So if anyone has any clue, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
    The only thing that could be wrong is that I use double-sided RAM... but I tried that RAM on MSI K7N2 Delta-L board and it works fine...
    HELPPPPPP!!!!!

    Quote from: Stu on 22-April-06, 01:05:27
    Memtest is standalone, runs direct from a floppy or CD: Memtest86
    Hmmm... I can try that...
    But what if MEMORY CONTROLLER on the board is faulty... wouldn't that make memtest report BAD RAM STICK?
    I ask because I never used that program...
    And it seems like it is a memory problem but not the sticks, rather the controller on the motherboard... because no matter which memory I stick in, it won't work...
    Today I tried 6 different memory sticks and NONE OF THEM WORKED...
    i treid with: Samsung, OCZ, A-DATA, KingMAX, TwinMOS and Viking (Hynix chip)... I called a couple of friends and asked to bring their memory sticks so I can try them... and NONE OF THEM WORKS...
    So I think it is A BOARD PROBLEM...
    Maybe the board will work with some brand, but I do not have time OR money to search which brand works with the board...
    Because, when you buy a motherboard, you expect it to work... you DO NOT EXPECT you'll have to spend 3 tanks of gas going from one friend to another to test the motherboard...
    And I don't care if they wont RMA it... if they won't I will crash the board in front of their eyes...
    I give up on it... I already spent TOO MUCH TIME ON IT... it is not worth it!!!! K7N boards... I'm going Intel!!!!!

  • FX5600-VDTR128 problem

    I have just bought an FX5600-VDTR128 to replace my GeForce3 after a review in MicroMart a couple of weeks ago.  My problem is that Windows XP crashes after a couple of seconds if I increase the display resolution beyond VGA.  More than that, the screen corrupts and locks up after a short while in VGA.
    I have used DriverCleaner to clean out the old drivers, and have tried the display drivers that came on the MSI CD and the latest drivers (4403) downloaded from the MSI driver site.
    My system is a twin 1GHz PIII on an ABIT VP6 motherboard with 1GB RAM, running Windows XP Pro with SP1.
    I know that the card is functioning correctly as it works fine with the NVidia drivers with Linux Mandrake 9.1 (hence my message now).
    Has anyone else had problems with the FX5600-VDTR128 and XP Pro?
    Andy Tuson

    I dunno
    I took it in today
    nothing was wrong
    it ws running 3d mark 2001 for about 40 minutes
    (1024 by 768 by 32)
    And it ran WCIII well too
    I got it home, tried it
    (3d Mark for about 15 minutes, 1280 by 1024)
    and WCIII (1280 by 1024)
    worked fine too
    I dunno what it could be.
    It seem fine now
    the only changes was
    we moved the ram from the first slot to the 3rd (green)
    and I got another stick in there, on the second,so the first is blank.
    might try that.

  • Msi FX5600 VTDR128 + 3D!Turbo Experience Temperature issue

    I bought a MSI FX5600 VTDR128 board, to use on a Abit VP6 board  - 2x PIII 933@133 FSB, 512 MB SDRAM 133 CL3, PSU AOPEN 300 W - installed MSI/Nvidia drivers 44.03 and 3D!Turbo Experience, first the one that came with the drivers and utilities CD, this one reporting erroneous memory and GPU speed (100 MHz and 54 MHz respectively). After that, downloaded and installed latest version of 3D!Turbo Experience, claiming support for FX boards. This  new software reported correctly the core and memory speeds on 2D mode 270/550 MHz, but on 3D mode 270/550 MHz keeps reporting 270/550 MHZ. The temperature and fan values only appeared the first time I ran the program, never showing up in the subsequent runs. The values for Fan/Temp were: 48 ºC/2700 RPM (ambient temp +/- 27 ºC) after playing GTA Vice City for 30 min, with the game still running.  After playing GTA Vice City for 1 hour, one sistem notification box (not from the HTML/Flash frontend) appeared notifying for unusual temperature - 255 ºC   8o . On the previous version of 3D!Turbo Experience a similar box showed up with 127 ºC. In either situations the HTML frontend kept reporting absolutely normal values (48 ºC/2700 RPM). The board is warm to touch (+/- 40 ºC), both the heatsink and the PCB. I find this very strange and i'm not sure if the notification box temp. value is correct - are 127 º C the upper limit of the temp. range (127=(2^7)-1)  on the previous software version and 255 (255=(2^8)-1) on the latest software version ?
    The board does not crash when the box appears and keeps running steady as a rock, altough after that i closed the game for protection.
    Anyway, I am terribly scared, considering those temperature values may represent a terrible overheating situation. Please HELP!!! . Thanks for your consideration.
    Regards.

    Hi,
    My pc spec is like following,
    Pentium 1.8A ghz
    256DDr ram,
    Asus motherboard P4B533,
    And Geforce 4 mx 440 64 mb card, etc.
    I wish to upgrade my graphic card, so i want to buy MSI FX5600-TD256 model.
    It is my computer(motherboard)support this graphic card?
    AlSo it is any different between MSI geforceFx5600 128mb and MSI geforceFx5600 256MB?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I wouldn't even buy the FX5600, because as you can read nside this formum, there are lots of big problems with this card and the drivers.
    I installed the card first in an win XP system, but could not get any newer game to run (e.g. age of mythology, morrowind, rise of nations, freelancer....)
    Afterwards after my cpu died I instaled the card in an windows 2000 server system, and I still have exactly the same problem. 1 minute after starting the game the system crashes and starts write a memory dump.
    Tried miniport driver update, tried driver update, tried driver cleaner, nothing helped so far.
    My advice you should buy a graphic card that is known to have a working properly driver, e.g. as OpT1kN3rv told the Ti4800

  • MS6167 - Problems with NVIDIA GeForce FX5600 graphics card

    Hi all,
    tried to install a Nvidia GeForce FX5600 old PC of mine that the kids use, mobo is MS-6167. Could not get this to work. States that it cannot get enough resources (in Windows XP, Device Manager). I have tried to force reasign of IRQ from the BIOS on reboot, and even removed the sound card.
    Could this be a power issue, though I assume the card would just not work or crash.
    Any help apprecaited.
    Thanks,
    Bunnster

    "AMD's 750 Chipset
    Power users looking for next-generation features such as AGP 4X /my marking/ and PC133 SDRAM support are currently out of luck on both AMD's Slot A and Intel's Slot 1 infrastructure, as chipsets that support both features are in the latter stages of sampling among motherboard manufacturers. Before a motherboard can tout such features, the motherboards' chipset must support them. All Athlon motherboards currently available ship with AMD's 750 chipset, which only officially supports PC100 SDRAM and the AGP 2X interface."

    Ad libris: Meaning, I don't think your Nvidia card can do AGP 2X. Bad news could be you'll have trouble fitting the previous card. Your best bet would be to get a powerful PCI-slot only card.

    0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBFA61944, 0xADD73BD4, 0x00000000)
    nv4_disp.dll - Address BFA61944 base at BF9B7000 Datestamp 00000000
    I have tried every driver from nvidia or msi and the prob still exists

    I disabled the 2 com ports but it's still the same

  • Crashes ather installing new Graphics Card

    Hi;
    I have installed a new MSI 6600GT AGP to my mobo yesterday. Everyting worked fine that day. But today my PC randomly stops responding, totally freezes. My Old GPU was a fx5600 and there was no problem with it. But I  had a bsod problem that time and solved it by increasing my RAM voltage to 2.7(thx to this forum)
    With my new video card my PC totally stops responding. The screen freezes. I am using two sticks of Kingston Value RAM 256x2 at 400mhz Dual and PAT enabled. I tried removing one of the sticks and my problem dissappeared. Both of the sticks run fine this way. But When I use them together my PC crashes. changing the voltage, ram slots, single mode or disabling the PAT didnt worked. As you may understand 256 is not enough for a gamer. I want to use my two sticks in dual mode (I am using default timings CL3 so on) In fact I dont even know if it is a RAM problem at all.
    I thought about PSU issue or a overheating issue. But there is no fluctiuation in voltages, no overheating on GPU, RAMs or GPU. My PSU has
    +12v  18A
    +5v    28A
    +3.3v  30A
    It is a Aopen/FSP AO35012APN(PF) with Passive PFC 350 watts.
    I couldnt find an option on my bios to disable fastwrites for my card. Fastwrites can be disabled any other way?
    I have also format my machine but it didnt work.
    I beg your help. or i will go mad..
    My system specs:
    P4 2.8 Presc. HT@Stock HSF / MSI i865PE Neo 2 PLS / 256x2 Kingston DDR400 RAM / MSI NX6600GT VTDR 128 AGP 8x VIVO / 80GB Samsung SATA 7200@8MB / 52x Aopen CDROM / 52x32x52x16 Samsung Combo / Creative Audigy 2ZS / Philips MMS 460 5.1 / Datron DpF7700 / Pikatel Quartet ADSL Router / Hw hosting by Aerocool AeroEngine Mid-Tower case powered by Aopen A0350PN(PF) 350W PSU and cooled by 2x 4cm(NB-VGA), 2x 8cm(Case), 2x 12cm(Case, PSU)

    Of course it'll be good if the card was the problem .
    Btw, those are just "reported" numbers for the "card's power consumption" and should not be trust. Didn't Intel previously mentioned about low heat and low power consumption for their E stepping CPUs? What turns out was a minimum of 20A is needed on +12v and expecting to see 50c on the CPU temp idle...
    To say that FX5600 consumes more power than NX6600, I don't think I can agree with that since NX6600 is at the higher end core than FX5600 but if you want to have the figures of power consumption, sorry that I can't produced any just that it is true. Just think of why would PSU manufacturers comes out with more high power PSU rather than improving on the low power PSUs?

  • Problem with threads, program always crash

    new to threads, may be doing something COMPLETELY wrong. When I run the program I get a couple of NullPointerExceptions in Thread-0 and Thread-1. I'm confused because it screws up when I call size() for arrayList, and in the API size doesn't throw anything.
    public class ProducerConsumerRunner
       public static void main(String args[])
          Queue q = new Queue(QUEUE_MAX_SIZE);
          ProducerRunnable producer = new ProducerRunnable(q, ITERATIONS);
          ConsumerRunnable consumer = new ConsumerRunnable(q, ITERATIONS);
          //works good up to here
          Thread t1 = new Thread(producer);
          Thread t2 = new Thread(consumer);
          t1.start();
          t2.start();
       private static int ITERATIONS = 50;
       private static int QUEUE_MAX_SIZE = 25;
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    import java.util.concurrent.locks.ReentrantLock;
    public class Queue {
         public Queue(int maxSize)

              underLimit = list.newCondition();
              MAX_SIZE = maxSize;
         public void add(String line)
              list.lock();
              try{
                           System.out.println("add method of Queue");
                   while(record.size() >= MAX_SIZE){//things get screwed up when this condition is evaluated
                        //size method is crashing the program
                        System.out.println("2");
                        underLimit.await();

                   System.out.println(date+" added");
                   try{
                   Thread.sleep(100);
                   }catch(java.lang.InterruptedException e){
                        System.out.println("ProduccerRunnable's sleep was interupted");
         private final Queue q;
         private final int ITTERATIONS;
    public class ConsumerRunnable implements Runnable{
         public ConsumerRunnable(Queue q, int itterations)
              this.q = q;
              ITTERATIONS = itterations;
         public void run()
              //Queue q = new Queue();
              int length;
              for(int i = 0; i<ITTERATIONS; i++)
                   length = q.record.size();//things are getting screwed up here
                   while(q.record.get(length) == null)
                        length--;
                   System.out.println((String)q.record.get(length));
                   q.remove(length);
                   try{

                        System.out.println("ConsumerRunnable's sleep was interupted");
         private final Queue q;
         private final int ITTERATIONS;
    }

    question:
    this works right
         public void remove()
              list.lock();
              int line = 0;
              try{
                   *while(record.size() < 1)*
                        range.await();
                   record.remove(line);
                   range.signalAll();
              }catch(java.lang.InterruptedException e){
                   System.out.println("await interupted: "+e.getMessage());
              }finally{
                   list.unlock();
         }this is deadlock
    *int list = 0;*
    *while((list = record.size)<1) was screwing things up because of the assignment*record is ArrayList of strings. when better to use Vector instead of ArrayList? i notice no differnce and i use threads
    initially I thought record.size was being evaluated and before could be assigned to list, time slice ran out. this could not be case because I use ReentrantLock (list) to lock it.

  • Iphoto crashing after using mini-dvi to video adapter

    Hi, IPhoto on my Macbook is crashing. I can open it, then as soon as I scroll down it locks up and I have to force quit.
    This started happening right after I used a Mini-DVI to Video Adapter cable to hook my macbook up to my TV. The adapter/s-video connection worked and I was able to see the video on the tv. But iphoto immediately locked up the computer when I went to slide show and now it locks every time I open it.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you:)
    Dorothy

    It means that the issue resides in your existing Library.
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
