Crashes when running applications from network share - "Windows cannot access the file for one of the following reasons"
Hi,
starting a couple of weeks ago, we get the following error(s) when running applications from a network share. We don't know what causes this, we are not aware of any major changes in our network infrastructure or client/Server configuration. We did upgrade
a lot of machines to Windows 8, but the issue also occurs on older Win7 computers.
We figured out a workaround though: The applications run fine when launching from a FQDN share (like
\\share.domain.Company.com) and only cause problems when running from
\\share directly. They have worked fine for years without FQDN though.
Any ideas?

It sounds like a DNS suffix issue. When this issue occurs, please try to ping share on the client, then check if the corresponding IP address is correct. If the IP address is wrong, please adjust your settings of DNS to make sure that the client can resolve
the share correctly.
If it's very hard to change the settings of the DNS for some reason, as a work around, we can add the entry into the clients' hosts file.

Windows XP, Java and long filenames when running application from a server
Hi,
I've been struggling with this for a while, can't understand why Windows XP seems to give me 8.3-filenames with ~ (tilde) instead of the full file- and path-names.
I've added a key in the registry, when a user right-clicks on a txt-file they get an option to open the file using my program. The key maps to:
javaw.exe -jar "\\networkdrive\automapper.jar" "\\networkdrive\Automapper.cfg" "%1"This basically means that javaw will be used to execute my automapper.jar and the automapper.cfg and filename/path will be added as parameters to my java-program. Notice that my jar-file resides on a network-server and not on my local machine. This works just fine though.
However, when I read the supplied filename in my java-code it is always in Windows 8.3-format using ~ to represent the missing chars. This is not a huge problem since everything works. The problem is that I convert the file and save it with a different file-ending, but with the same name (before the suffix). This means that the user runs my program on:
this_is_a_long_file_name.txtand ends up with his original file and my new file named something like:
this_i~1.qqqwhich admittedly looks ugly.
If I run the application locally on my machine everything works fine and the long file names seems to handled correctly. The problem only arises because the program is run from a server. This is a microsoft network, I do not know anything else about it, sorry.
Now I know, this is not strictly java-related, but I'm running out of options here and thought that perhaps one of you have solved this before. An option would be that I myself convert the short-filename to a long one, if that is possible? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! If you don't know the answer, but know a good place to ask I would appreciate that as well.It seems to me that if a File (in the java-sense) is created with a 8.3-path it retains that path, meaning that this code will always give the same result in both printLn-statements:

LabVIEW crashing when running NI-DSP VI on Windows XP
I am in the process of upgrading a software application from LabVIEW 3.1 on Windows 3.11 to LabVIEW 7.0 on Windows XP with NI-DAQ 7.2. The hardware has been replaced, the relevant hardware change here is from the AT-DSP2200 to the NI-4551.
The source code uses the NI-DSP libraries to control the DSP2200. I can't find any equivalent in the new LabVIEW (and have assumed that there is none, this is all covered in the MAXX now). The source code has been convereted to LabVIEW 7.
When the source code is opened on the Windows XP machine LabVIEW crashes. I've traced to cause of this crash to the NI-DSP code. Whenever I try to open any VI that contains the DSP code it crashes LabVIEW. I think the problem is the CNI call
inside the DSP library. When I try opening the source code on a computer that doesn't have the NI-4551 installed there are no problems.
What is the upgrade from NI-DSP to? Is there a direct mapping of NI-DSP functions to equivalent NI-DAQ ones? How is it that having the hardware plugged in causes a crash even though it shouldn't be accesssed until I run the VI?
Any help would be appreciated.

The NI-4551 can use either NI-DAQ or NI-DSA as the driver. If you only have NI-DAQ installed, any program that uses the NI-DSA functions may be crashing.
There is no direct mapping of NI-DAQ functions to NI-DSA functions but you can download and install the NI-DSA driver from the website. Current DSA Drivers
Once you have installed the NI-DSA driver, you should see the functionality you were previously used to and your program should run.

Upgraded from E8 to E10 cannot access img files
Have been looking all over the net for 5 days now trying to find a answer to my question Adobe help in India simply could not get me from A to B.
The sites I have been reviewing, have solutions at the software level, talking in computer language which means nothing to me. I am not a computer expert at any level other than at the keyboard level, in other words, just a computer user.
My E10 organizer has all of the thumb nails. However, All photos taken in a vertical format, have yellow question marks. All but a very small number of Photos taken in the horzontal format do not have a ? mark. I cannot reconnect to any of img files.
All of my photo image/files are on a external drive E: Nothing on (photowise) on C: . All of my attempts to reconnect have failed?
Can some one give me simple sttep by step instruction on how I can reconnect?

Everything appears to have reconnected.............except all photos shot in the vertical position have not reconnected and have yellow question marks. A very few photos in the horzontal format have the same problem.
I followed your instruction with directing to the E drive to reconnect and everything except the above seems to have hooked out (I have about 3000 photo files) but what has caused the above and how do I reconnect with those?
There is something around 450 files affected
Also the reconnect window.......I really don't understant how to use the darn thing. There is the left side and the right side neither of which seems to interact with the other. Can you direct me to an instruction page on how to use the window.?

Windows 7 - Files missing from network share after trying to burn and no data cached to be burned
I ran into an issue trying to burn some file from a network share using Windows 7 Home Professional. I was trying to burn some .jpg files from a mapped network share drive using explorer. Every time I would drag the files to be burned from
the share drive to the explorer screen to be burned, the files would disappear from the share. To make things worse the files would not show up in the screen to be burned. I was unable to locate any of the files on either of the systems when performing
a search after this took place. I verified that the steps that I was taking to burn the files were the same as outlined on the Microsoft site. No matter what I did to burn these files, they were deleted from the mapped network drive.
Below are the steps that I took that both resulted in the files being deleted as well as what I had to do to finally burn the disc.
Steps that resulted in files being deleted:
1. Insert blank CD into drive.
2. From prompt select burn using explorer (Mastered Format)
3. Enter title and select with CD/DVD, click Next.
4. Open a second explorer window, navigate to mapped network drive with files to be burned and snap next to explorer to be burned.
5. Drag and drop the files from the share drive to CD.
This where the train would fall off the tracks every time. I would receive a message that the file(s) no longer exist and if I wanted to continue. From here the files would be deleted from the share drive. The best part is that the files
would also NOT be locally stored to be burned.
Steps to burn share files WITHOUT delete:
Follow steps outlined above, but instead of just dragging and dropping the files as outlined in step 5 select the files from the network share location, right mouse select copy. Then right mouse select paste in the explorer window to be burned.
I have tested this many times and every time ended up with the same problem. At this point I am sure that there is a problem with the way that Windows 7 is performing the burn. The system that I was using to burn is Windows 7 Home Professional
with all the patches and updates loaded. The remote system is Windows XP Professional with all the patches and updates loaded.
Thanks in advanceYes, the problem is still continuing. However, after looking into as much of it as I can, I can confirm something that r.p.b_ started stumbling on. The files are deleted IF AND ONLY IF a user is using the built-in Windows 7 disc burning utility AND is dragging
and dropping the files to the drive from a network share; this doesn't happen locally. If you watch what happens in the native folder, the files are literally scrubbed from the drive as they are processed and added to the image. However, if you Right Click
on the files and copy them, then Right Click->Paste onto the drive, they remain. (The keyboard shortcuts also worked.) Also, 3rd party disc burning utilities function they way the should. (In other words, they don't delete the files.)
My speculation is that there's a bug in the coding that sees the network share as a temporary buffer file while the image is being prepared. Then, as the files are processed in what ever way is needed, the "temporary buffer" is being deleted. The result:
lost files on a network share. But, this is just speculation. -

Accessing files from jar file when running application?
I have an application that when run should read an xml file (test.xml) from a jar file located in a resource folder. I do this:

java.io.File refers to physical files in the sense that the operating system uses it. It can't refer to Files on remote machines, it can't refer to "files" stored in .ZIP files and it can't refer to some random String that you construct.
Usually when you think you need a File object in Java, you don't actually need it. There are only a handful of operations that you can do with a File object that can't be done with a URL as well (deleting, renaming are two that come to my mind). Reading from it and writing to it works with a File as well as with an URL. -
Weblogic Start-up from CIFS share(WINDOWS 2008) is too slow.

We are migrating to a new platform in weblogic 10.3.5. It is running on a WINDOWS 2008 Server and we are planning to use the "Whole Server" migration.
As per our new architecture, we have planned to use NAS over CIFS as a storage medium.
We have placed all the binaries, jars ,JDK files and weblogic core server files,WL_HOME in the "Local Disk" and admin,Managed servers, Filestore and all files related to domain in the CIFS share.
Now, when we start-up the servers without any deployment, it takes almost 5 mins for the server to come-up in "running" mode.
We are bit in a jeopardy now as to whether the architecture and the set-up is appropriate for weblogic over CIFS (or) not?
Any advice (or) suggestions on this setup would be helpful.
(PS: We have found out why the server is taking too long to start-up. When we observe the TCP-IP dump during the server start-up, there were thousands of requests(includes JVM DLL files,exe,weblogic class files, core server class files) sent to the File-server using SMB protocol. Unfortunatley, all those files are present in the "Local DIsk". Hence, we could see that the firts request is sent to the File server, got failed and then the file is being read from the local-disk.)

SV.Put only files which needs to be 'shared' ( e.g persistent store files for jms, jta transaction store etc) on the network drive .. put all other files including logs on the local disk.. see if that makes a difference..

Test Stand crashing when running ESS
Test Stand is crashing when running ESS and one of the test fails. I am able to run that same test alone and there are no issues. I am seeing the following messege in the windows event log.

2) Are you calling a dll from TestStand? If so make sure the settings for passing parameters to the dll are exactly correct or it could cause memory corruption. If not, how exactly is teststand calling the test?

Running application from installer in vista prevents drag and drop
Running a desktop application from Vista and Windows 7 through a wizzard, prevents doing a drag and drop from the desktop or another windows explorer to our java application.
We are using a windows wizard to install the application once it finishes it launches the application within the application the drag and drop work perfectly, but I can not drag from desktop or external windows explorer into my application, dragging from the application to the desktop or to another windows explorer is working fine.
If we run the application by clicking directly on the exe file (generated by the installer app), the application launches and do not present the anomaly (Drag and drop into a out side the applications work fine).
So the issue might be related to the way the installer executes the application, that maybe have a different configuration or windows permissions are not set correctly when started by the installer.
Both ways of launching the application have the same working directory the only difference i found was in the system environment (System.getenv()) the one that works has a SESSIONNAME key with a CONSOLE value in it, could this be the problem?
Any idea on how to workaround this issue or some idea to look at the installer will be kindly appreciated.One idea is to use [Java Webstart|http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/javawebstart/index.jsp] *(<- link)* as your installer. It might not fix the D'n'D problem, but at least if you get to the point of telling Sun about it, they will care (at least) one iota about fixing it.

Unattend Hit an error while pulling drivers from Network Share

I've run into an error with installing apps from network share via SynchronousCommands under Specialize pass in unattended answer file. I been trying to work on it since yesterday and haven't had any success so far. It keeps failing with an error below.

Let me explain this situation. I've a server named WDS-DEP-SERV which is running my WDS, DHCP and DNS. I've an E drive on this server which contains setup64.exe and I'm trying to have the client pull that .exe via unattend answer file and install it either
during Specialize pass under windows deployment services via Synchronoouscommands or under OOBE pass under Windows Shell setup via FirstLogoncommands ---> Synchronouscommands, but it's not working. I believe that my path format for network share is wrong.
I've searched online almost everywhere since yesterday but I couldn't find anything.
Can anyone please let me know what's the right way of go about doing it? This is the only thing that's not working for me. Below is my answer file, in case someone needs to see what I'm doing wrong.

IPhoto crashes when downloading photos from Iphone 4S
iPhoto crashes when downloading photos from iPhone 4S.
I am running 10.6.8 with iPhoto 9.2.1 and iPhone 4S with latest iOS5.
When i try downloading the pics it stops and have to force quit.
I have tryed deleting the 3vix file as suggested on other threads but it is not present.
Any help would be appraciated!

Error when downloading application from Server
Hi,
I have installed MI Client 7.0 SPS 11 Patch 0 on Symbol Device ;OS Windows Mobile5.0
i have successfully completed <b>first</b> synchronization .
After that i assigned Mobile Component to the device and tried synchronizing.
"Error when downloading application from http://<servername>:50000/meContainerSync/servlet/com.sap.ip.mi.http.MobileComponentServlet?Application=xyz&Type=APPLICATION&Runtime=JSP"
Pl. suggest
Note: In NWA under 'Device Maintenance' -> Mobile component
The state of the aplication is <b>"Deployment Activated"</b>

I resolved it on my own guys !!!
Actually while downloading server url consists of hostname bcoz the hostfile entry in windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts was only hostname.
i entered FQDN name in the hostfile... It WORKED
Being Saturday and Sunday...i cud not get any help from forums...i was really worried and Guys we need to think on this :-?
