Crashes while trying to reload Snow Leopard from the disc.
I am trying to reload Snow Leopard onto a MacBook Pro. It crashes every time I attempt it. When starting up without the disc, I get a folder with a question mark. What is wrong? When attempting to start up using the Snow Leopard disc, it crashes.
Any suggestions?
The folder on the question mark is the firmware telling you it can't the bootable volume it was told to boot from.
It might not know, or it's gone or the drive is dead or some other issue it can't find it.
Hold the option/alt key down on a wired or built in keyboard and boot the machine into Startup Manager, there you can select from the bootable options if they exist or not corrupted.
Also the disk can be inserted and booted (and ejected) from here as well.
If after booting from the disk it crashes, the disk is likely bad or not compatible with that machine.

I have an 06' macbook and I just bought an 07' macbook.. The 06' has os x 10.6 but the 07' has 10.5.. I no longer have the disk for snow leopard. Is there ANY way to get snow leopard from the old computer to the other without having to buy it again?
Technical issues aside, there's still a legal issue.
Neither 2006 nor 2007 MacBooks shipped with Snow Leopard 'factory' installed. OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard became available in September 2009. So you purchased and installed a Snow Leopard upgrade disc on the 2007 system at some point.
If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a single-user copy, then legally, you need to purchase another one for the second computer. If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a Family Pack 5-user license, then you're good to go.

If you have an active MobileMe account, Apple was giving away a single-user upgrade copy of Snow Leopard for a limited time, and you should have received an email with a link, or been offered the opportunity when you signed in to your MobileMe account on the web:
http://www.macrumors.com/2012/04/24/free-snow-leopard-discs-for-mobileme-users-n ow-arriving/
Worst case, single-user Snow Leopard upgrade discs are $29 retail, direct from Apple. I'd hate to have two computers and no OS installation CD's for whatever version I'm currently using. -
Cannot install XCode for Snow Leopard from the Appstore.
So... I reinstalled OSX, mainly for the fact I wanted to... but now I'm trying to reinstall my Apps from the App Store, specificly XCode4, which is now titled "XCode for Snow Leopard" in my purchased apps... But I cannot download/install it. I get an "This is not available error" followed by a Error 100...
Apple tech support is being utterly useless for this. Any ideas?Xcode ( 4.1.1) on the AppStore is now only for Lion.
On the Developer Portal you can still access the freely available 3.2.6 package even without being a paying Apple Developer ( need only a Apple-ID to connect to the Mac Developer Portal for normal Users ) . 4.x was a paid app, so it is not accesible for average users from there nor from AppStore. -
Hi there! I have Mac OSX 10.5.8. I really need mac osx snow leopard!!! 3 days ago a shop assistant in the offical apple shop said that i can dowload snow leopard from official apple site ? Can i? How?
No. Snow Leopard comes on a DVD which you can buy from the Apple Online store. However, I can't find a store for Russia. Do you have access to Amazon? They're available from there also (usually). Around €30, R1250.
The pack and front of the disc look like this - -
Crash while trying to export on Leopard (New bug)
Note that this bug seems to be slightly different then the bug referenced in the post "Aperture 1.5.6 Crashing with Leopard". In my case, just selecting "Export > Export Version" from either the "File" menu or the contextual menu causes Aperture to crash. The Export dialog never gets displayed. The stack crawl is also slightly different then the one shown in the above mentioned post.
This is the first time I've used Aperture since installing Leopard a few weeks ago. My Leopard installing was an "Archive and Install" one, and I've since picked up the 10.5.1 update. I've run "Repair Permissions" as well as deleted my old Aperture preferences from ~/Library, but the crash persists. A crash report has been submitted as well.
As it stands, I cannot export any photos at all from within Aperture. This goes for both managed photos as well as referenced photos. Any help would be appreciated.

(End Crash Log)I have the exact same problem as you describe above, and from the beginning i also think it's a bug cause by leopard update, but I was wrong, the solution is both simple and crazy, you just need to remove any 3rd party "color picker" plug-in that was not compatible with Leopard from ~/Library/ColorPickers, then you are set to go, mine was the "Tangerine" plug-in that i was forget to put in trash after I uninstall the main program. After I remove it, no crash on exporting to version or to mail, hoooolaaa.
I'm both frustrating and sad when I cannot export my image from Aperture, and I'm not sure what the connection between color picker and Aperture "export" feature, but it's finally solve my problem, this of course with the help of this post. Cheer, and by the way, I have upgraded to Aperture 2.0, woo lala, what a great software update Apple had provide after such a long wait. -
I accidently installed lion on my mac book pro. I did a time machine back-up. When i try to re-install snow leopard, it won't take. Any suggestions on how to install snow leopard over lion?
Accidentally, eh? How, might I ask?
Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files. -
Why cant i re-download xcode 4 for snow leopard from the mac app store?
i reformatted my mac's hd and didnt back up applications that i bought from the mac appstore cause its easy to re-download, so im trying to re-download and instal xcode for snow leopard the one that you purchase for 5 dollars
Been trying about 2 weeks now to get the xcode 4 for snow leopard that I purchased for $5 installed on my new macbook pro but I get the same error. After several frustrating calls and emails the final verdict from Apple was either contact the developer and get a copy (uh Apple right?) or you just can't install it since they've removed it from the App Store. They said just upgrade to Lion but I can't upgrade to Lion on my work machine since well Lion brings down our NAS. So I'm totally hosed on this one. Apple should not force us to move to Lion. That's not right.
There isn't a version of Xcode on this machine so there shouldn't be any conflicts. I REALLY need Xcode 4 installed and this is really frustrating because I already paid for the thing. -
I need to update my Mac to snow leopard. I purchased it online, and they sent me an email with the redemption code. The instructions say I have to redeem it from the Mac App Store, but since you have to have Snow Leopard or higher to get the Mac App Store, I don't know how to redeem my purchase....please help.
You have half of the equation. Buy Snow Leopard and when the DVD arrives you use it to upgrade your Leopard system or erase the drive and install a clean copy of Snow Leopard. If you decide to do the former then be sure you use Disk Utility to repair the hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If you choose the latter do the following:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Sign into the App Store with your Apple ID and password. Click on the Featured icon in the toolbar. On the right below Quick Links you will see the Redeem link. Click on it to redeem Mountain Lion. -
Had problems with Snow Leopard from the get-go.....
.....but I was finally able to take my desktop to a local Genius Bar today and the fix was found within minutes.
The problem I was having was that iCal wouldn't open in Snow Leopard. It would just bounce in the dock a few times and then slam shut.
Turns out that the iCal preference files just couldn't make the transition from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
So I made an appointment and took my desktop to the Genius Bar this morning at the Freehold Mall. Turns out it was a simple fix to go from Leopard (10.5) to Snow Leopard (10.6).
I just couldn't get iCal (that I rely on) to work in Snow Leopard and all I had to do was delete the preference files from Leopard (after the switch to Snow) since they got corrupted during the change from Leopard to Snow Leopard. A five second fix......DUH!!!
Cost for the "fix"? Just my time to take it there.
Snow Leopard is now my operating system and it absolutely KICKS *** speed-wise!!!This has happened to me (I think twice in 2 years). Nowadays I sync notes to iCloud, so if a note is lost, it is almost all recoverable.

My imac keeps crashing when trying to download logic pro from the app store
Hi guys i was hoping that you could shed some light on a few probs ive been having with the App store.
just tried to download logic pro on my imac which is running the latest version of mountain loin and it keeps crashing my mac out and restarting. im a little bit peeved as just spent over £100 on this programe.
can anybody helpit keeps crashing my mac out and restarting
The Logic Pro app is crashing?
Try deleting the app using this free utility > Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
That will remove all the associated files not just the app itself.
Then re download the app.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. -
My iPhoto will not stay running. It opens for a minute and then quits unexpectedly. I get an error message and it says a report will be sent to apple. My computer will not recognize my iPhone either. I cannot figure out how to fix this issue or if there is any way to fix it!
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
If that fails:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Build Error while trying to import a dc from the track.
Hi All,
I imported a Java perspective Dc from a track to local developement,
When i tried to build locally developed dc, but i was getting a build error as
"error reading C:\Documents and Settings
.dtc\0\DCs\dc_ext_lib\_comp\gen\default\public\Excel_API\lib\java\Jexcel-install.jar; error in opening zip file"
There was a error in opening the JExcel file.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
AnilHi Anil,
I think the jar file(Jexcel-install.jar) is zipped.Unzip the zar file from the folder......lib/java.
Or else remove the jar file and import the application into NWDS,then add the jar externally from the NWDS.
Make sure that the dc does not have any files.
Once you import the dc rightclick on the prj-.properties-.add the external jar file or directly place the jar file in java folder.

How do I reinstall Snow Leopard without the discs?
I need to change my hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X. I can't install Lion obviously because I first need a platform. I got my MacBook from a relative, but she sent it to me with MacBook Pro installation discs. I tried using them, but every time it says, "Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer," which I don't know why that'd be. Since I don't have the necessary installation discs, how do I reinstall the OS?
FIrst, you may want to back up your system to an external HD, then restore it when the disk is replaced. If you use the Restore tab of Disk Utility (see #7 in Using Disk Utility), or the 3rd-party CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper apps, you can start up from the "clone" and restore back to the new disk.
If you use Time Machine for backups, you'll need a Snow Leopard disc to restore them.
But you will probably need a Snow Leopard disc that will boot your Mac sooner or later anyway.
Note that the retail disc only has the default Apple apps; no iLife or iWork apps.
If the Mac came with Snow Leopard, call AppleCare. They'll send a duplicate set of the original discs (including iLife) for a nominal fee.
If the Mac came with Leopard, and iLife wasn't upgraded, get the original Leopard disks (with iLife) and a retail Snow Leopard disc. -
Trying to restore Snow Leopard from TM
I installed Lion on Aug 27th and had several crashes in Mail and have been unable to find a solution. So I have
renstalled SL which went well but now would like to go back to before Aug 27 in TM to reload all apps and data.
With the present SL and entering TM I can see that Aug 26 is there and would like to bring that into my Mac.
Is this possible?
I have inserted my SL disc loading the installer and at that point used the Utilities pull down to select restore from
Time Machine. Continued on to the screen where I should see my TM but do not.
I also thought I could just select the Macintosh HD and then enter TM at the date I want and do a restore there but that just grinds forever.
Could someone help in restoring SL please. I even tried to connect directly to the TM via its ethernet cable but still could not see TM.
Confused
LarryBThings are worse than I thought.
I can see my TM backup on the desk top but cannot connect to it using Star Wars interface. I can't select it using TM "select disk" as it does not show up.
More confused
