Crashing due to text panel plugin

My cs3 Version 5 Mac Indesign has stated crashing upon opening.
I have identified the problem as being the plug-ing "text panel.indesignplugin. When I remove it, the program loads correctly, but of course I then lose the functionality of the text panel plugin.
I have reinstalled the whole application, but to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas ?
Thanks kindly.

Hi
seems you have Spectorsoft monitoring/blocking software on your mac, some versions conflict badly with Safari 5.
Either update, uninstall, or if you can't do either of those, try renaming or removing the problem item
/usr/local/esps/eia then restarting.
paste /usr/local/esps/ into a Finder -Go - Go to Folder dialogue... or even into a Safari address bar, if it stays open long enough. That will take you right there.

  • Pages repeatedly crashing due to "SFWord Processing Plugin"

I'll be working in Pages '08 and click on something (sometimes in the menu bar, sometimes in the text, sometimes in the Inspector--doesn't seem to follow a real pattern), and all the sudden I will get the spinning beach ball. I won't be able to save. Other programs become unusably sluggish. After about 10 minutes of beach-ball spinning, Pages crashes with a message indicating that the probable reason is "SFWord Processing Plugin."
This has been going on all day. Add to this frustration that Pages has not autosave and I am losing my docs left and right. I have been forced to start typing in TextEdit and not happy about it.
Any ideas what SFWord Processing Plugin is and how I can fix the problem?
    Thanks.

If you have the same problem on six Macs, I doubt very much that there is any problem with the cache.
It is likely that you have installed something on all of them that does not work properly - or at least does not work properly with Pages.
If you know you have installed something unusual on all six of them, I would look into uninstalling that on one of them, and see if that makes any difference. It could be an application, a font, a widget, a movie or image that corrupts the media browser - just about anything, but it exists on all six of them.
My guess would be the printer driver. It is likely that all of them has at least one printer in common, and it is possible that that one does not play well with Pages. If you can spare one Mac, try removing all printers for a few days on that one, and see if Pages still behaves funny.
I am in no way a printer guru myself - I do not even have own a printer any more. But I know that other people here have printers.
Oh, btw, if you anyhow want to know about the system caches, you find at least some of them by typing the following two commands in the Terminal:
    <pre>
    cd `getconf DARWINUSER_CACHEDIR`
    open ..
    </pre>

  • Premiere pro cc 2014 is crashing due to after effects plugins being installed in the mediacore. Is there a solution to this issue?

The title honestly says it all. I recently purchased CC 2014 and have been updating and transferring plugins from prior versions of adobe after effects. When installing those plugins as I did in previous versions of after effects none of the plugins were recognized/loaded. I eventually found a solution to this issue by simply installing the plugins into the media core. They have all successfully loaded, but due to their presence in the media core premiere pro is now crashing upon start up. Does anyone know a work around for this?
    Image showing crash:
    Specs:
    OS: Windows 8.1
    RAM: 8GB
    CPU: Intel 5 4670k
    GPU: GTX 980 sc
Premiere Pro CC 2014 and After Effects CC 2014 are both updated to their most recent versions

First ... have you checked that these are all updated to work with the CC versions? I'd check with the makers of each plugin, the software has MANY differences.
Next ... if say you removed all but one, do any of them work? It might be worthwhile to remove them from the folder, then add one by one until you find one that is crashing things. That would at least get you part way forward.
And ... you might list which ones you have, in what versions. Folks around here might be able to help just seeing that.

PE 13 crashes due to incompatible video driver detected. Running on Win 7 SP1 with ATI 540v video card/driver.  Deleting bad driver file in adobe program data does not fix the problem,  it simply replaces the text file and crashes again.  My video driver is just fine.  Any help out there?

Your video card driver may be fine for something, but just not compatible with Premiere Elements 13/13.1.
For those with the display card error, the answers include
    a. assure your video card/graphics card driver version is up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card -
if necessary consider a driver roll back.
    b. determine in Device Manager/Display Adapters if the computer is using 2 cards instead of 1
    c. delete the BadDrivers.txt file
the rationale for that deletion is found in post 10 of the following older post...principle applies to 13 as well as 9.
Re: Premiere Elements 9 Tryout Serious Display Problem
Have you looked for computer ATI card settings that might be more compatible with Premiere Elements 13/13.1?
When is the program crashing - just opening a new project or rather crashing if editing a particular video format at the Timeline level?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I deleted some of the old stuff that showed up on the report (have removed virtual box long ago but some residual files were apparently left). It didn't help though. Will remove forticlient too as a test.

  • Yosemite crashing due to Safari freeze

    Hello.
I have recently been experiencing that my Macbook Pro crashes due to Safari suddenly freezing.
I cannot find anything about it on the net, so now I'll try here.
I'm running OS X 10.10.3 and Safari is updated as well. My Mac is the 2012 15" retina, A1398.
I have had the problem with Safari freezing before, but not to the extent, that it crashes my Mac completely.
Hope someone can help or know what is going on

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
When you post the log extract or the crash report, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Jrockit crashes due to outofmemory and illegal memory acces

    Hello,
We have been using jrmc-3.1.2-1.6.0 and lately we are seeing JVM crashes after every couple days. Note: We have been seeing these crashes recently , for last 1 year we did not see such crashes.
Following are different issues that we have seen over last few days:
    1. Crash due to illegal memory access
    2. Crash due to out of memory error
    3. Sever becoming unresponsive/Idle
For illegal memory access and out of memory crashes, there was jRockit dump file created and Dump file seems to be pointing at Jrockit libjvm.so module for the exception/crash.
    Any help would be appreciated!

From the command-line (-Dehcache.monitor.enabled=True) you are using some form of caching.
The out-of-memory occured as the JVM was unable the allocate an object: C Heap : 1 memory allocations have failed
Could you check how the live data set is going (or the memory leak detector)
Some concerns with regard to tune a JVM that runs a cache can be found here: http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7083
Note that the example given discusses Coherence, but can be adopted for another caching mechanism as well.

  • My Vista system crashed due to a corrupted windows file. When I reformatted C:/ & reloaded firefox & tbird, my bookmarks were gone. I have an image of the drive , but I don't know how to recover them and get the data back where I can access it.

Vista system crashed due to a corrupted system file. The C drive was reformatted, and windows reloaded, along with the rest of my programs.
Before the drive was reformatted, an image was made of it on a USB drive to save all the data. Now I need to know how to get the Bookmarks back for Firefox, and the Address Book back for Thunderbird.
    Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. It worked very well, for both Firefox and Tbird.
One hitch, until I remembered: those are all hidden files, in hidden folders. I had a devil of a time finding the "roaming" folder, until I found out how to unhide everything. In years past, I used DOS for that kind of thing. Explorer is much less user-friendly. Now that I know how to do it, it's simple.
    Thanks again for the guidance

  • Creating Scrolling text panels in Indesign CS5 for Interactive SWF's

    Hi,
Is it possible to do as it says in the title?
I want to add some text panels and provide the ability to scroll through the text.
It will be output to an Interactive SWF file online.
Can this be done in Indesign CS5?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the updated information.
I created a scrooling text box in Flash CS5 and created the swf, that works fine.
Importing into Indesign CS5 isnt as straight forward as I expected?
I get the SWF icon on the Indesign Page, but previewing or publishing only shows the SWF icon, no Scrolling Text box displays.
Im ust add that if I click on the SWF icon the Text box displays, but I want it to display by default?
Are there more steps I need to take?

  • When i try to load certain page, the system crashed and the bottom panel states " stopped" but when I close and open firefox again,it can't and I get this message that says my firefox is still running and to open the browser i need to restart the compu

while browsing suddenly the system crashed and the bottom panel says " stopped".When closed and re-opened, I got a prompt that says firefox is still running and i have to close to open again or have to restart the computer but it doesn't work
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == just happened

You get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
    Find your profile folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say?

  • A few tips about using the Text Panel

A recent question about the text panel set me to working with it and I thought I'd share some tips I discovered, since the help files don't explain the text panel at all.
At one time I called the text panel "useless", but I've changed my mind -- it's a nice thing to have.  Essentially it's a quick way to instantaneously
Create a new layer with a semi-transparent layer style.
Create a rectangular shape on that layer.
Add a drop shadow effect to that shape.
    All with a double-click!
You access the text panel from the "Effects" panel and its "Photo Effects" icon, choosing the "Frame" effect:
Double-clicking on it creates the layer and the shape.  By default, the text panel layer has a semi-transparent layer style applied to it and this has caused great grief for those who want a completely opaque background behind some text.  Not to worry, that's easily done.  To whet your appetite, here are a few effects that can be achieved with the text panel:
Let's start with the "Big text" box:
    Create the text panel.
Because we want an opaque panel, right-click on the shape in the Editor and select "Clear layer style".  POOF!  Instantly you've got an opaque white shape with no drop shadow.
Move and resize the panel.  (It's still horizontal at this point.)
Add some text (which will come in on its own layer).
Size and position the text relative to the shape, and when you're satisfied, select both the shape layer and the text layer (using the Ctrl key) in the Layers panel and click on the "Link layers" icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.  This links the shape and text so they can be moved and rotated as one.  The layers wind up looking like this:
Now, let's look at the "small text" box:
    Create the text panel.
Position the panel and add and position some text as before.
Because we want the text panel to be a dark grey (instead of the default white), with the text panel layer selected, select the "Create new fill or adjustment layer" icon at the bottom of the Layers panel and select "Hue/Saturation...".  Be sure to use the "Clip to layer" icon, and lower the "Lightness" value:
This gives the nice transparent grey background so the white text shows up very well, even against the bright white of the clouds.
Select all three of the layers and link them together:
Finally, you can have some fun with the "Fancy" effects:
    Create the text panel.
Position the panel, add some text, and set their positions.
Add a "Hue/Saturation" adjustment layer as before (clipping it to the text panel shape layer).
Colorize the text panel by using these settings:
    5.  Don't forget to link the layers together:
    6.  Double-click on the "fx" icon to the right of the text panel shape layer, which will bring up the "Layer effects" dialog box.  Here you can create the bevel and adjust the size and transparency of the drop shadow.
You can also get this nice faded effect on the text panel:
After following the steps listed above, add a mask layer to the text panel shape layer and draw a gradient fill on that mask layer to fade the layer.  I used a linear fill going from white to a dark gray because I wanted some of the text panel to always be showing:
N.B.: Make sure you always clip the "Hue/Saturation" adjustment layer to the text panel shape layer so that the H/S adjustments only affect the text panel.
    That's it!  Enjoy!
    Ken

    Yes nice job.
    Thanks for posting this.

  • Multiple and frequent crashes due to spellchecker

    Hi,
Since the release of the last 2 version of the French dictionaries, I've been experiencing a LOT of crashes due to the spellchecker
At first, I was using FF3 and I got so sick of it that I switched to Minefield: the problem is still there, unfortunately
This isn't a small issue: It IS very frequent, almost always if the message you're typing is long enouth
I've tried many different things like disabling extensions, ect: I now have absolutely no doubt about it, it's being caused by the spellchecker
It's actually so frequent that I've come to type my messages in another app first and then copy paste in FF: it's too munch of a pain, I'm now going to use another browser until this issue is solved

    Thanks for your reply
Yes, I've looked at the link you gave and it's definitely the bug I'm experiencing
As for the dictionaries; I use:
    Dictionnaire français "Classique" v4.0.1 ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/french-dictionary-classic-spel/ )
    and
    United States English Spellchecker v5.0.1 ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/united-states-english-spellche/ )
note that I have also tried the 2 other versions of the French one and both with no luck
    These 2 other version are:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/french-dictionary-classic-and-/
    and
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/french-dictionary-modern-spell/
I'm also giving you the version of the English one, because as it turns out it sometimes also causes FF to crash (less frequently than the French one)
I didn't know there was an alternative (Hunspell), I will try that asap

    http://roedesigns.com/easy-css-only-image-description-hover/
I don't need it to hover, I just want to add a transparent text panel like in the link over a picture or video.
The website i'm working on is Fluid so is this something I need to do with CSS or JQuery.?
What would be the code for something like that?
At the moment I have a new section with a 'article' object/div set up for the content, the content will be a image with the text panel or a video with the text panel.
    <article class="fluid article">INSERT PIC/VIDEO HERE</article>
    help much appreciated!
