Crashing during "Save As" in Snow Leopard
I use Photoshop CS4 on an iMac with 4gig of ram and Snow Leopard. Not every time, but often, Photoshop just quits after I click on Save As. I then relaunch Photoshop and everything works fine. It may do this every couple of days.
What is going on? Any suggestions?
Kevin
That happens in all applications on MacOS 10.6.
Apple is working on it.
I don't know about that. Since I did an HD upgrade, I've run Snow Leopard and CS4 Master Collection, and can count on one hand the times apps have crashed since November. (Dreamweaver twice and Fireworks once. I was having Finder issues at the time of each though and a reboot resolved it.)
I run AppleJack once a week as a rule and things go smoothly 99.9% of the time.
Vista, is another story...

MobileMe and RSS screen saver missing in Snow Leopard!
In Leopard, in Desktop & Screen Saver, under Pictures, There is a screen saver called MobileMe and RSS, which allowed you to subscribe to picture RSS feeds and would display them as a slideshow when the screen saver activated.
I found that screen saver option is no longer available in Snow Leopard. I thought I would just go to a Leopard machine and copy the screen saver file to Snow Leopard, but its not in the screen saver folder (Drive -> System -> Library -> Screen Savers).
Why did apple remove this functionality? Is there anyway to get it back?Sorry, I get it now. My issue was similar but not the same as yours. I have never subscribed to picture-only RSS feeds so I guess I can't address your issue. As I said, I was trying to have other peoples' MM galleries show up in the list of screen savers, which I was finally able to do using my instructions (you don't need to belong to MobileMe to do this by the way, all you need is the username of a friend who does subscribe and has set up a MM gallery - for example, my username is "rbarline" in case you want to check out my "public slide show" gallery as a screen saver ... :~)
Now I am curious about picture-only RSS feeds and would like to try one as a screen saver. Can you send me a feed URL to try? Maybe there is a way after all? -
FCP7 Crashes all the time in Snow Leopard
I upgraded to SL a few days after the release and since then, FCP7 crashes at irregular intervals.
For example, it first showed up whenever I saved a project, it would save and then immediately crash.
Now, I am exporting a number of projects to quicktime movies and at no set interval, it ill just crash and give me the option to send a report. It generally happens at the start of the export.
I also tried a complete reinstall of the suite, but it hasn't changed anything. I also tried trashing the plist file from preferences.
I saw in another post that only down to Thread 0 of the report was needed, so here is mine.

Photoshop CS2 keeps crashing on MacBook Pro running snow leopard
I have been using CS2 on my MacBook Pro for more than two years. Just two days ago, the Photoshop application began to UNEXPECTEDLY QUIT every time I opened it. All other apps in the CS2 are working fine. I have NEVER had a problem with the CS2 or this application. I did download a trial of QuarkXpress 9 and a trial of Office for Mac 2011, but that should not have any effect on the CS2. I went to the Apple store and we reloaded my system software (Snow Leopard) and updated back to my original 10.6.8 system but Photoshop keeps quitting. I called Adobe tech support just now and we spent over 90 minutes, re-installed Version Que and still Photoshop keep quitting. We changed the Administrator and that had no effect, Photoshop keeps quitting. There is no common action that causes it. I can be cloning and it will freeze, I can flatten, cut and paste and save, then it quits. Any suggestions? I cannot afford to upgrade to CS5 and I am more concerned WHY this would happen out of the clear blue...I have not added any typefaces. Any suggestions?

Maybe you applied an update to your OS recently?
Illustrator is from a different planet, as are other point applications artificially lumped together into a "suite" by marketing fiat. How other applications behave is irrelevant.
You really, really need to upgrade.
I didn't want to upgrade beyond Photoshop CS4, so I stopped upgrading all my hardware and all my software. Therefore, I experience no problems whatsoever.
2.5 GHz Power Mac (PPC) G5-Quad; 16 GB RAM; mutant, flashed 550MHz nVidia GeForce 7800GTX, 1,700 MHz 512 MB VRAM; ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D LP SCSI card; Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.8 boot drives; Spotblight, Dashboard and Time Machine permanently disabled; dual 22" CRT monitors; USB wireless 'n' available but connected to the Internet via wired Ethernet; FW flatbed scanner; 2 SCSI scanners (one tabloid-size transparency scanner and a film scanner); various internal & external HDs; FW Epson 2200 and Ethernet Samsung ML-2850ND printers; 2 x Back-UPS RS 1500 XS units. Photoshop 11.0.2. Illustrator 10.0.3, Acrobat Professional 8.3.1, InDesign 2.0.2 .
The fallacy is the attempt to get away with piecemeal upgrading—as in just the OS, or just the CPU.

Crashes while trying to reload Snow Leopard from the disc.
I am trying to reload Snow Leopard onto a MacBook Pro. It crashes every time I attempt it. When starting up without the disc, I get a folder with a question mark. What is wrong? When attempting to start up using the Snow Leopard disc, it crashes.
Any suggestions? The folder on the question mark is the firmware telling you it can't the bootable volume it was told to boot from.
It might not know, or it's gone or the drive is dead or some other issue it can't find it.
Hold the option/alt key down on a wired or built in keyboard and boot the machine into Startup Manager, there you can select from the bootable options if they exist or not corrupted.
Also the disk can be inserted and booted (and ejected) from here as well.
If after booting from the disk it crashes, the disk is likely bad or not compatible with that machine.

How can I disable save sleep in Snow Leopard
I've installed 10.6.2 on a 16 GB SDHC card as an emergency boot drive for my MacBook Pro as an alternative to carrying an external HD when travelling. I would also want to use this card for download of large numbers of digital photos in the event of a catastrophic HD meltdown. I have trimmed the card to leave 5.38GB free, but would prefer more space. The sleepimage file is taking up 4GB, and the only procedure I have found to disable safe sleep and get rid of the sleepimage file can be found here: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070302210328928, but the hint is marked 10.4 only. Can anyone advise me on the procedure to accomplish this in Snow Leopard? Safe sleep would not be a priority for me in an emergency situation. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.
This should help:
Energy Saver- About sleep and idle modes in Mac OS X.
Description and modification of the different hibernate modes
When the computer goes into sleeping mode, its behavior depends on a power management variable called hibernate mode. The hibernate mode can be set to different values:
0 : Default sleep behavior on most Apple computers. RAM is still powered on while sleeping. Wake up is fast. Safe sleep is disabled.
1 : Hibernation behavior. System is totally shut down while sleeping. RAM contents are dumped to disk. Wake up is slow.
3 : Default behavior on Powerbook HD computers. RAM is still powered on while sleeping. Wake up is fast. Safe sleep is enabled, so RAM contents are also dumped to disk before going to sleep.
Only a single mode can be activated at a time. In order to check what hibernate mode is currently active, the following command can be used in the Terminal application:
pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
In addition, users with administrator privileges can choose the hibernate mode. In order to do so, the following command can be used:
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode X
with X replaced by the value of the hibernate mode to set. You will be asked to enter your admin password. It will not be echoed. -
Photoshop CS5 Crashes on Start Up after Snow Leopard Font Update
Great!
Updated what I thought would be a simple update to the Snow Leopard Font 'thingy' did the update and install then went back to doing some work
in Photoshop CS5 - only for it not to boot up as it did fine before...
Luckily I still have CS4 installed and that opens and runs fine.
The rest of the Master CS Suite all open fine - no crashing - Just photoshop is the one that will not boot up.
Thanks!
So... tomorrow I am reinstalling 10.6.3 - im hoping the 10.6.7 combo is still fine...
But my advice steer clear of the Snow Leopard Font updater... its messes up Photoshop CS5!
Here is the crash report... anyone who can shed any light... I'd be interested to hear...

Is there anything special about your video setup (e.g., dual cards, etc.)? What card(s) do you have?
More on OpenGL and GPU operation in general here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404898.html
I know of no way to get Photoshop to allow you to configure OpenGL via a Preferences dialog at startup (though there are ways by holding particular keys down to configure other things, such as scratch disks and the extra plug-ins folder). There is a registry tweak that will block Photoshop from trying to use your GPU, but Adobe doesn't want that info given out freely.

FCP7.0.3 crashing with Motion template on Snow Leopard
Have upgraded from a Leopard from the 2009 MacPro install of Final Cut Studio3 to Snow Leopard on the current Westmere hardware with the same Final Cut Studio 3 application. The Motion Templates in the FCP application are causing application crashes. Need help what could be the cause!
You may have a ProKit problem.

My hard drive crashed on my macbook about a year ago. I bought a brand new hard drive and brand new full install snow leopard discs single user to install on my empty hard drive. about a year later the hard drive crashed again, but it was still under warranty so i sent it out to get a new one. now when i try to install the same snow leopard disc, it says it can not be installed on this computer. I feel like I've been ripped off now, because i have no operating system on my computer and i already spent $129 on the snow leopard disc a year ago. Is there anything i can do to install this? I also have an iMac, I heard you can take the operating system from that or something? I just need my macbook back.
Is there anything i can do to install this?
Yes. Boot from the installation disc, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, select the internal drive, and partition it with the default options. Then run the Installer. -
G5 crashes during iTunes video playback after Leopard install
I have a G5 1.6 single-processor running 10.5.1. Since I installed Leopard, I have been experiences frequent crashes during iTunes video playback (TV shows bought in the iTunes store). The crashes hang my whole system and require a restart by holding down the power button. The video itself sort of "blip-blip-blips" during the crash, but the mouse and keyboard are unresponsive, windows don't do anything, etc.
Any thoughts? Anyone else with this problem? Thanks!Ever since I installed Leopard on my dual 2ghz G5, neither itunes nor quicktime player works. They both crash on launch. Maybe not the same issue, but I'm regretting the upgrade.

Quicktime crashes on startup/launch in Snow Leopard
I've Googled and cannot find a solution!
Every time I launch Quicktime or Quicktime 7, it chrashes immediately. I can submit the error readout if you think it will be useful.
I've tried deleting the user .plist, and creating a second account and launching in there. I've also tried downloading Quicktime 7 for Snow Leopard from Apple and I experience the same problem.
Could you offer suggestions on what else I could try?
Thank you,
EricMaybe you are using something like NTFS-3G?
Maybe this thread has something for you...

Oh, sorry I just noticed that you have read or posted in that thread, but didn't like the answer?
You get strange results with many 3rd party products. I don't use Bootcamp at all. Parallels 4 works very well with Snow Leopard and none of this booting back and forth hassle. Windows is just for research, use the Mac side for performance. -

Finder crashes during save functions
There is a serious bug when I try to save or open a file during a browser or photoshop (basically any application) session. I cannot keep the window open, the window closes un-announced, (crash).
Result: I cannot save or open files effectively.
THIS happened Immediately after I upgraded to Mavericks OSX.
NOT GOOD.I'm having the same issue with an I7 MBP and a 11" Macbook AIr, both mid 2012 models and both recently upgraded to OSX 10.9 Both Mac's have SDD's. The issue happens on almost all applications but especially on FCPX, Motion, Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC. It almost seems as though the finder is losing connection with the direcotory and so the flle menu closes. Sometimes the FIle menu closes within a second, sometimes you think it worked and just as you get to your file/ folder it closes before you can perform an open / save action, arrgghhh!!!
This issue is now causing me major problems as it's slowing down my work flow, sometimes taking 20 attempts (as it just had in Photoshop), to perform a save.
I have spotted a post on Autodesks help pages that mentions a similar issue. They are suggesting it's an issue with coverflow. Since then also found a couple of additional links on this support site. Still reading through but doesn't seem to be a solution yet.

Intel OS 10.5 Illustrator CS5 crash during "save as" file replacement on network volume
I am running a recently reinstalled copy of CS5 on a os 10.5 Intel Mac pro as part of the CS5 design Premium edition. Every time I try to save over a file on a 10.5 fileserver as a "save as" to replace an exsisting document on the server, it crashes Illistrator. Hard. I get the spinning ball and have to force quit the application. This action tends to cause a volume bit map error on the hard drive. I have swapped the drive for a new one and the result is the same so I know it is not a failing hard drive. I have come accross a similiar issue on the forum and have yanked the pref file mentioned in the post, but no luck so far. If anyone has an idea, I am all ears. Thanks.
Previous thread with simialar issues.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/318379Adobe has always stated that saving to and opening from a networked file server is not supported.
There are litterally thousands of configurations out there and it's not feasible for Adobe to test every single one of them.
If you save the file to a local drive do you have problems? -
CS4 - Project opens, but crashes during save
Adobe Premiere CS4 running on Macbook Pro with OS X 10.6.3
So I've been working with the same Premiere CS4 project file for awhile now, and I've hit a pretty big dead end that I really need some help with: Whenever I save the project (File>Save Project), I get the progress bar that says "saving project", but it locks up half way, and gives me the spinning rainbow wheel of death. I am forced to quit the application. My changes do not save.
I get the same behavior when I try to workaround the problem: Save as, Save a copy... Importing sequences into a new project as well. Occasionally after crashing Premiere in these manners I have to restart for it to load up again.
I am using images and 1 video from iStock in my project. I first saw the strange behavior when I tried to put an iStock image jpeg into the timeline. It showed no preview for it. There was nothing about the image, technically speaking, that I think would cause such a problem.
I don't get it because the project opens with no problem. I can even work in it... just can't save. Any help?I'm running OS X 10.6.3
Details of my system profile are below.

The source material I am using includes jpegs from iStock, video from iStock, psds I create myself (usually flattened). I have also done some simple animation in After Effects (CS4) also from Master Collection. I imported a composition in from AE that matched my presets. I felt that was the most risky thing I've done in this project, but the point in time at which everything started to fail was when I imported a handful of iStock jpegs. I was having trouble getting one of them to preview in the source monitor. Details on that one here from getting its properties in the Project panel.

Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Notice the dimensions are incorrect. Premiere has since locked up from me getting these properties. The actual dimensions of this image are 585 × 821. This is really the only clue I have so far.
The other thing I should also note is regarding the AE composition that I imported. It had some effects on it that could not be interpreted. Premiere tells me this when I open the project up: This hasn't caused me a problem yet that I know of, because I've gone a couple days with it.
