Crashing/freezing problems with my new MacBook - please help!!!

Let me preface this by saying I'm very new to Macs.
I just got my new 2.0GHz MacBook (1GB memory, 120GB hard drive) a few days ago. The first day, I had programs freeze up on me which has continued to happen regularly. This morning, I powered off the computer but noticed it sounded like it was still running and nothing was displaying. I had to hold down the power button several seconds to get it to restart and then a message appeared saying that OS X had unexpectedly crashed.
My questions - Should I really be having these problems when the machine is so new? Should I contact Apple and send it back to them? Or am I making a big deal out of minor problems?
Thank you!

I assume that your macbook is built to order, and the built to order (not standard specs) is not eligible for return and replacement, but they will try to fix it until it work, maybe if it is unrepairable then you will get a new one.

  • A Few Questions/Problems With My New iPod *PLEASE HELP*

Hello! I just received my first iPod (4th Gen, 4GB, Red Nano) two days ago (Christmas Eve) and have so far been fairly happy with it. However, I'm experiencing a few problems with it and am hoping that someone could help me.
Firstly, a few of the album covers on my iPod are just black squares. I've read other complaints about this on the forums, but haven't seen any solutions. What can I do to fix this?
Second, I can't figure out how to put my songs in order. On iTunes, it allows me to put songs in alphabetical order, but being that most of my songs are part of full albums, I want my songs to be in the order of when they play on the actual albums. When I try to drag my songs into their correct places, I'm not able to.
Also, is there any way to delete the games that my iPod came with? I think they might be taking up too much room for my liking...
OK, well if you can help or add some extra tips to getting started with my iPod, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Problem with brand new Imac, please help

I was suggested that it would be best for me to post this topic here in this forum.
Hi I am new to Mac, I had just gotten my 17" imac isight last week, for the most part i am very happy with it. But last night I was having some troubles with it. I had been online and was using Firefox as my browser....I went on one website and all of a sudden my mac froze up, the cursor changed to a spinning colored pinwheel and i couldn't click out of the page at all. In the upper right hand corner of the webpage which i didn't notice when i originally went on it was a message saying "you've been owned noobie"....my only guess was that this person's page had been hacked.
I tried manually shutting down the imac, when it came back on I could not do anything. Firefox and Safari kept shutting down, and even when i tried going into System Peferences it kept closing on me. I tried shutting down at one point and the computer seemed like it was still on, the light in the lower right hand corner was going in and out. I tried starting up again and could not get onto the desktop, it was stuck on the blue screen. I tried holding the power button down in the back for a few seconds and i took the power cord out from the back for 30 seconds, after that it seemed to work fine.
I am afraid that this may happen again, right now everything seems fine....has anyone else experienced this issue or has any insight on it? Is it a hardware problem or simply a bad webpage?
I appreciate any help that you guys can give me!

  • Big Problem with brand new iPod please help ME!!

Hi, I just today got a brand new iPod. I pluged it into my computer and put on about 700 songs immediatly. Then, I tried to put video on my iPod. It said it would not do this because it's not the right type of iPod. But it is a 5th Gen. iPod and it can play video. Anyway, I installed the latest iPod updater. Now, it says to install the new iTunes 6.01. So I tried but it says my disk is full. It is not full. Also, do I have to keep my previous "iPod for windows" files that are occupying space on my disk?

    Kenny,
If you can back your songs up, and you have not rated a slew of them already, it might be a good idea to uninstall iTunes, then reinstall it and use the ipod updater to wipe the iPod. Just make sure you download and install 6.01 before you plug the iPod in. Maybe that will get you past the disk full problem. Just something to try.

  • Problems With My New Macbook

    I bought my white Macbook early February and since then i have come aross a couple of problems, so i am posting here to see if anyone else has experienced my first problem and to warn you all of the second;
    - My headphone out only plays out of the left headphone unless I turn the volume right up which causes the right ear to distort profusely.
    - The highly rated "Incase" Neoprene Sleeve I bought with it has left black stains on the sides and looking at other threads it seems that it is only the newer Macbooks that suffer with the problem with the case.
My macbook is now with the apple repair guys for a few days to sort the headphone problem out and the person I spoke to recommended getting a new case.
I just think it's ridiculous that they advertise the case with picture of a white macbook when it actually stains them..
Let me know if you have experiences similar problems with the new macbooks..
    Regards,
    Martin

I have tried multiple sets of headphones which work fine with my ipod and i still have the same problem and I get the same problem when playing music through itunes, frontrow, myspace and purevolume.
Whilst i was on the phone to apple support they led me through a few different ways of resolving the problem easily i.e going into system preferences and checking that the pan is centered, restarting the mac by pressing 4 keys at the same time etc. and none of that fixed the problem.
Hmm it seems that no one else has had a similar problem to this.. maybe i just got a faulty unit.. I should get my macbook back from the repair guys either today or monday so i'll find out then exactly what the problem was.
Thank you all for your input!

  • Starting problems with a new MacBook Air

I have just bought a new MacBook Air, and have followed the set up assistant all the way to the last page
The message "Thank you, your Mac is now ready to use",appeared and I clicked "Start using Mac"
The rainbow colloured cirkle just keeps on turning - but nothing happens. And it hasn't for 8 hours
In the process I have used an external USB mobile hard drive to transfer data from my old MacBook.
There was no indication of any problem using this in the setup process.
I have after 8 hours in desperation removed the mobile hard drive - with no result.
Please, can someone help me from what is becoming the the turning madness of 'the evil rainbow eye'?

Maybe another shutdown then start, will help: hold the on/off button untill it shuts off.
    Do not connect anything.
When it will not start again, you shutdown and start while holding the three keys at the same time:  the CMD key + Alt(=option) key + R key:
You need an internet connection, it will start in the internet recovery "disk" and then you choose Recover OSX.
    It will take some time.

my new macbook with Retina display i have Problems

Hmm sounds like a saved application state issue and memory related.. I hate to ask are these graphic intensive apps. ?? games ??
Try these two things and restart if it still occurs then i recommend contacting AppleCare
disable the Resume and App Restore feature completely in Mac OS X 10.7.
Launch System Preferences and click on the “General” icon
At the bottom of the “Number of recent items” list, uncheck the checkbox next to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”
    - Click on the Apple on the top left. Choose shutdown "Uncheck" Reopen windows when logging back in
**use your mac normally just like you were if the issue reoccurs then contact AppleCare..  Enjoy..

  • Problems with my New Macbook-Boot-Dashboard

I just got a brand new macbook from "santa" and having some major problems. Right now I can only think of 2. I tried installing windows XP but I didnt want it so I removed it and now when I start up my mac after reboot or shutdown, it says, "no bootable drive....insert drive and press any key" so now i hav e to hold down option key to start my mac up. I REALLY dont want that. How do I fix this. I just got my macbook today so I am kinda scared. My second problem is that when I try to put a widget that is pre-installed like ESPN, Flight Tracker, etc. Dashboard just goes away! How do use my dashboard??

    Hi Anil!
It sounds like what's happened is that you set the Windows XP partition to be the main boot volume, because you removed it the problem you're experiencing is to be expected.
Hold down the option key, as you've been doing and boot into OS X. Go to System Preferences and then select "Startup Disk" which is in the "System" grouping. Select the volume that has the OS X operating system. Next time you restart the machine it should take this changes and the problem will be resolved.
Please report your findings if it doesn't work.
As for the widgets, when you launch Dashboard and click on the "plus" icon in the lower left hand corner it should bring up all the pre-installed Widgets. When you click a specific Widget it'll drop it onto your dashboard and you then reposition it. I usually re-click the "plus" icon when I'm done and then F4 out of dashboard. When I return, it's there...
Are you doing the same thing and they're not staying?

  • Heat and sleep problem with my new Macbook Pro

Basically I noticed with my new MBP the computer can become very hot and the fan gets very loud after about ~2 hours of working in Maya.. which I guess might be reasonable.
However, my main concern is, even when I close the lid of the MBP, the heat seems to stay (I just closed it for about 30 minutes, and it's still as hot as it was before I closed it).
I'm working on High Performance.. maybe my macbook isn't sleeping when I close it?
I have noticed (I THINK) that the white apple on the outside glows sometimes randomly even when I have the lid closed, but I'm not completely sure.
    Anyone else have this problem?

Hi yes I've had/got the same problem. Received my new MacBook Pro only last week and this has happened twice. The machine gets so hot I can't even touch the battery area!!!! It only seems to happen with the power connected and when the lid is closed. Fortunately the Mac was on my wooden desk or it might have melted plastic!
The Mac cooled down after unplugging from power supply, but wow it was hot....and noisy!
The only way to get the Mac back was to either press the power/off until it shut down, or take the battery out - after it cooled down.
Reported the problem to Mac Support immediately, but no response.
THIS IS DANGEROUS!!! Be careful, I don't know what would happen if it was left overnight for example - could easily cause a FIRE!!!!!

  • Hello, I'm having problems with my new GX60. Help please...

Hi first I want to congrats MSI for the good quality of their products. That's why I decided to buy a laptop, but here is my experience and my problems also. First I bought my laptop regarding the language problems, because it came with Windows 7 in Chinese, and thankfully to a chinese friend I could buy it.
First, I couldn't find a MSI laptop in my country, and now that I won a scholarship in China i Decided to buy one here...in China!!
And then I decided to go for MSI, and it's quite brand-new GX60-1AC...that is my first problem, I couldn't find the laptop model in the list and I registered my serial with another model that it's not mine....my model is a gaming series, the GX60-1AC, and mistakenly I've chose the GX600 which is an old model...
--So, would you can change it for me please? because I want all the benefits of the warranty and want to extend it, please. Thanks for this priority problem.
And the second problem is that I guess there is a promotion of Windows 8 about this laptops, the Gaming Series laptops. And I want to upgrade my laptop to Windows 8, but I don't know how to do it. Please help me out to do this. I can give you all the information you need. The receipt, original serial and other stuff.
Thanks in advance and keep the good support.
    David Romero

Thanks....I've downloaded that program, and it says that the CPU #0 is at 45 degrees....seems to be normal
The Min is at 42 degrees and the Max is at 46 degrees.....
And about the auto fan control, is there a way to modify it? I mean I want that the fan starts to spin at 5 minutes, or when the temperature rises to 60 degrees, as a example....is there a way to do that? because the fan starts to spin every 30 seconds, and the sound is somewhat annoying...is not too loud but you can hear it very clearly.......... so I don't know when and how it has to sound...is there any guide to know when a fan is defective?
I mean probably MSI has some standard about the loudness of the fan...
Also, thanks for the support, if this can help anyone else about something it could be great.
PD. By the way I was reading about the EC resetting, is there any benefit to do that? and how about the battery calibration? I've spent my whole night without sleeping to make it work but in the end Windows 7 decided to sleep because the battery was at a critical level and when I restarted the Battery Calibration program was no responding and it was closed by Windows. >(
Is there a guide of how to do that?
PDD. Also I recently found about fan buzzing? fan whining? it could be possible for a new laptop...I can't distinguish both terms. And I can hear it just right after turning on the laptop and while I use it without playing nor doing anything else more than surfing in the web, like now.
PDDD. Damn! I found that the Techpowerup GPU-Z shows me that the integrated GPU, the 7660G, is at 88 degrees!!! Here is a pic:
Then HWmonitor tells me that it's at 43 degrees!?!!? is there any good and real program to get the real temperatures? Here is the pic from HWmonitor:

  • Freezing problems with brand new Toshiba P500.

    Hi All;
I bought a brand new Toshiba Laptop from Myers Melbourne in June 2010 and its running the base version of WINDOWS-7 64 bit. Its a Satellite P500 PSPGSA-01G003 ( large 18.4 inch screen ) which "does not exist" in the model product listing on this website.
Also it has 4Gb RAM and 2x 500GB HDD. It ran fine for the first 4 weeks or so and then slowly and intermittently it started freezing and not shutting down in the normal manner - generally within a couple of hours of when i opened LARGER size files. On switch on it asked to "restart windows normally" and whilst in the process of running a program, it either ran very, very, very, very, slow ( hanging )or just froze altogether - with only the mouse cursor moving on the screen. To clear the problem and hard reset of the power switch was the only thing that "fixed" it.
I spoke to others I know at work who have Win-7 (as many are clued up with IT and work with it) and they think "I'm crazy" as they have not experienced on their own WIN-7 OS at home.
As the model I have is not specifically listed by Toshiba, I cannot be sure if I can update the drivers - which I should not have to do since its a brand new computer straight out of the box.  I'm so frustrated by the problem I've dumped the computer and now have gone back to WIN-XP on a DELL Laptop, until I can sort this drama out.
My very first issue I had with it after just 4 weeks was it would not turn on at all as though the battery was removed or dead no life at all not even a light on the front panel edge.
That was "fixed" by a hard reset of the laptop ( pressing the on button down for 10 seconds ) with the battery removed - something I have never had to do with computers in the past.
Basically I'm of the opinion - rightly or not - that WIN-7 is not all that stable an O/S, since its built on a Vista platform and that being so - I may dump it and go for something radical like Linux or Ubuntu - or maybe worse still buy a Mac.
But before I go to such trouble and dump WIN-7 and conclude it is a crap OS - I would appreciate some advice as to what the problem might be ! There was a write-up about this in a recent Computer Magazine (APC ?) saying WIN-7 had problems with running sluggish and gummy. Mine is so gummy it freezes. There are dozens of complaint about this very issue on websites and the brand of computer is not the issue nor the common denominator - just the Operating System. It's a Microsoft problem in reality !
Interested in your replies and a solution to restoring my Toshiba "white elephant" !
