Crashing \ project file size limit \ ram?

I'm working on a project that will have 250 pages, full color, 300 dpi, lots of graphics and photos. It was starting to crash regularly so I broke it into two parts of 125 pages each. I notice it is still a big funky. Crashing unpredictably.
This is on a Mac Pro Dual Core Intel 2.66 GHz. I've only got 2 G of RAM, live in the middle of nowhere, and don't have time to add more RAM.
This setup handles HD video like a whiz, never any crashes. It does not seem to like the big graphics files with Pages.
Any advice? Should I keep the project file to a certain max in terms of size?
Ben
Any suggestions? Could I be able to tell

Ben,
You are not alone. I have a page layout document with similar problems. It is only 90 pages, but many (about 600) photos. Pages crashes randomly, but frequently. My Power Mac has 4.5 GB ram and lots of disk space. I duplicated the problem on a Mac Pro with 4 GB ram at the local apple store. The project file is about 100 MB but Pages uses 3 GB of actual ram memory and more of virtual memory. I concur with the reply from Thomas -- adding ram is not the answer (but it might help). In fact, I increased my ram from 3.5 to 4.5 GB hoping that it would help. I also get the same kinds of errors that Thomas reports.
You can check the resources as suggested by Peter. I suspect you will see that the memory requirements (real and virtual) are very large, much much larger than the file size.
This discussion forum is supposed to be a self-help forum for users. Unfortunately, I am afraid that Apple has serious design issues and bugs that only they can fix -- at least I hope they do. Until then, my book is on hold. I may have to buy other software. It's a shame because Pages is actually really good -- but that can't make up for it's deadly flaws.

  • Increase Project File Size limit?

    When I'm recording a longer song with real instruments, occasionally I will be told I can't record because I'm close to the 2gb file size limit. How do you increase the file size limit, or just get rid of it all together?
    Thanks

    I didn't know there was a size limit. I have Projects that are over 2 GB.

  • Premiere Pro CS6, large project file size - crashing etc

    Working on a project in Premiere Pro CS6 - also incorporating after effects and using 2 external plugins (Beauty Box and Factory Pro FX).  Project is over 500MB, lots of comps, titles etc.  project seems to be corrupt on my machine. .The project crashes continually. I cannot save my work, I cannot export, I cannot create XML and media is linking incorrectly.  When I pull the project in on my laptop (separate machine) which has CC 2014 running, the project is FINE.  That said - I need to work off of the more powerful machine to do this job - so need to find a way to troubleshoot.  Note - project opens on my partner's machine, she can save + export, etc - however the media in still linking incorrectly on her machine as well (note partner does not have the 2 plugins, beauty box and factory Pro FX) - that said, it still links to the wrong media.
    We have worked out a work-arond where we pull all of the AE sequences out of Premiere and into separate AE project which has made the project workable again but we know something is WRONG and we need to fix for future ASAP.
    please help!
    thank you

  • Video file size limit in iPhoto??

    I recently used my entire 2 gig memory stick in video mode on my Sony H1 digital camera. Upon connecting the camera to my iMac, iPhoto did launch, but after repeated trys, there was no 25 minute video in my iPhoto gallery. This has always worked before, although always with shorter clips. I am wondering if iPhoto has a file size limit for video clips?
    iMac G5 20 1.8 GHz - 512MB Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    Hi Forest,
    When iPhoto 5 first came out I really think it was programmed to import the smaller 30 sec video clips that cameras were taking at the time. Since then, digital cameras, at least my Canon S2 can take clips as large as your memory card can hold. The first time I tried to download my images and movie clips with my new camera, iPhoto stalled at the movie clips. I wasn't going to take any chances messing up my iPhoto Library so I started using Image Capture to download all my images and Movie clips. I actually like doing it this way a lot better. My movie clips are downloaded into my Movies folder where I then put them in a dated folder.
    My photos are downloaded into my Pictures folder, where I then put them in a dated folder. I import the dated folder into iPhoto. I also keep all dated folders from photo downloads in the Pictures folder till I get enough Movie folders and Photo folders to fill a DVD. I burn them and then delete them from the hard drive.
    This way I have the photos in iPhoto and I also have just the photos backed up to DVD.
    The Movies I keep on the hard drive in their dated folders until I use all the clips for my iMovie projects for the Year. I then make sure they are all burned to DVD, then I delete those from my hard drive.
    Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
    Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
    When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
    Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
    The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
    In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
    To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
    iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
    If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • Project Bloating and Repair in Premiere Pro CS6; Max Project File Size? Adobe Coders Welcome...

    Greetings.
    After a few browsing sessions, I haven't found direction for a specific problem within a project bloat. First and foremost; we're always backed up. I have a restoration copy of the project that I will reference herein. Check that off the list.
    Numerous people have posted here and around Creative Cow with problems regarding an expanding file size using CS6; watching files go from 300mb to 2.8gb. The unfortunate problem is when the project crosses a magical line that results in an inablity to open, import, export, or access sequences contained therein. Has anyone addressed a solution to repairing Premiere CS6 save files? Reducing file bloat? I haven't seen anything (recall the FCP7 repair days... solutions existed because problems were frequent; thankfully not so bad with Adobe).
    Does anyone inside the code size know the maximum project file size that Premiere can read? I created a monster... Over 200 sequences utilizing 4.5TB of footage, stretching from Red codecs to EXCam to MPEG4 and H264. And for some time, the project size was manageable. Then, it inflated. And one day, randomly stopped opening. None of the auto-saves open.
    Just curious. Files aren't the problem, but the 2.8GB save file is. Machine specs // etc. are openly available if required; no bad ram, no problems with all projects (just this one beast).
    Cheers,
    Jon Michael Ryan

  • FILE and FTP Adapter file size limit

    Hi,
    Oracle SOA Suite ESB related:
    I see that there is a file size limit of 7MB for transferring using File and FTP adapter and that debatching can be used to overcome this issue. Also see that debatching can be done only for strucutred files.
    1) What can be done to transfer unstructured files larger than 7MB from one server to the other using FTP adapter?
    2) For structured files, could someone help me in debatching a file with the following structure.
    000|SEC-US-MF|1234|POPOC|679
    100|PO_226312|1234|7130667
    200|PO_226312|1234|Line_id_1
    300|Line_id_1|1234|Location_ID_1
    400|Location_ID_1|1234|Dist_ID_1
    100|PO_226355|1234|7136890
    200|PO_226355|1234|Line_id_2
    300|Line_id_2|1234|Location_ID_2
    400|Location_ID_2|1234|Dist_ID_2
    100|PO_226355|1234|7136890
    200|PO_226355|1234|Line_id_N

    400|Location_ID_N|1234|Dist_ID_N
    999|SSS|1234|88|158
    I would need a the complete data in a single file at the destination for each file in the source. If there are as many number of files as the number of batches at the destination, I would need the file output file structure be as follows:
    000|SEC-US-MF|1234|POPOC|679
    100|PO_226312|1234|7130667
    200|PO_226312|1234|Line_id_1
    300|Line_id_1|1234|Location_ID_1
    400|Location_ID_1|1234|Dist_ID_1
    999|SSS|1234|88|158
    Thanks in advance,

    Ok Here are the steps
    1. Create an inbound file adapter as you normally would. The schema is opaque, set the polling as required.
    2. Create an outbound file adapter as you normally would, it doesn't really matter what xsd you use as you will modify the wsdl manually.
    3. Create a xsd that will read your file. This would typically be the xsd you would use for the inbound adapter. I call this address-csv.xsd.
    4. Create a xsd that is the desired output. This would typically be the xsd you would use for the outbound adapter. I have called this address-fixed-length.xsd. So I want to map csv to fixed length format.
    5. Create the xslt that will map between the 2 xsd. Do this in JDev, select the BPEL project, right-click -> New -> General -> XSL Map
    6. Edit the outbound file partner link wsdl, the the jca operations as the doc specifies, this is my example.
    <jca:binding  />
            <operation name="MoveWithXlate">
          <jca:operation
              InteractionSpec="oracle.tip.adapter.file.outbound.FileIoInteractionSpec"
              SourcePhysicalDirectory="foo1"
              SourceFileName="bar1"
              TargetPhysicalDirectory="C:\JDevOOW\jdev\FileIoOperationApps\MoveHugeFileWithXlate\out"
              TargetFileName="purchase_fixed.txt"
              SourceSchema="address-csv.xsd"
              SourceSchemaRoot ="Root-Element"
              SourceType="native"
              TargetSchema="address-fixedLength.xsd"
              TargetSchemaRoot ="Root-Element"
              TargetType="native"
              Xsl="addr1Toaddr2.xsl"
              Type="MOVE">
          </jca:operation> 7. Edit the outbound header to look as follows
        <types>
            <schema attributeFormDefault="qualified" elementFormDefault="qualified"
                    targetNamespace="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/file/"
                    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
                    xmlns:FILEAPP="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/file/">
                <element name="OutboundFileHeaderType">
                    <complexType>
                        <sequence>
                            <element name="fileName" type="string"/>
                            <element name="sourceDirectory" type="string"/>
                            <element name="sourceFileName" type="string"/>
                            <element name="targetDirectory" type="string"/>
                            <element name="targetFileName" type="string"/>
                        </sequence>
                    </complexType>
                </element>
            </schema>
        </types>   8. the last trick is to have an assign between the inbound header to the outbound header partner link that copies the headers. You only need to copy the sourceDirectory and SourceGileName
        <assign name="Assign_Headers">
          <copy>
            <from variable="inboundHeader" part="inboundHeader"
                  query="/ns2:InboundFileHeaderType/ns2:fileName"/>
            <to variable="outboundHeader" part="outboundHeader"
                query="/ns2:OutboundFileHeaderType/ns2:sourceFileName"/>
          </copy>
          <copy>
            <from variable="inboundHeader" part="inboundHeader"
                  query="/ns2:InboundFileHeaderType/ns2:directory"/>
            <to variable="outboundHeader" part="outboundHeader"
                query="/ns2:OutboundFileHeaderType/ns2:sourceDirectory"/>
          </copy>
        </assign>you should be good to go. If you just want pass through then you don't need the native format set to opaque, with no XSLT
    cheers

  • Project file size

    Is there an easy way to determine what your project file size is before you burn to video. I have 1 hour 15 mins of video which should write Ok to a 4.7Gb dvd but adding the audio seems to take the whole project over the dvd file size limit. is this correct? and how do I find out what the total file size is on completionY
    Thanks for any help.

    In iMovie, select your project then click on Share > Export Movie.
    At the end of each row of the varying sizes there is an i - information button.
    Place your cursor over this to see the file size.
    In iDVD, once you have loaded your project, click on Project > Project Info.
    Here you will see the duration and file size and how it fits onto the disc in 'Capacity'.
    I would advise you (in this window) to bump the Encoding up to 'Professional Quality'.

  • TFS Preview source control file size limit

    Is there a file size limit for adding large files to a TFS Preview project's source control..?   I would like to add some files to source control that are in the 20-30Mb range and the requests keep aborting.

    Hi Erich,
    Thank you for your post.
    I test the issue by adding .zip file to TFS Azure version comtrol, the size include 10MB, 20MB, 100MB, 2GB, i can add they to version control properly without any problem.
    In order narrow down the issue, here are some situations i want to clarify from you:
    1. What's the error message when TFS azure block the check-in process? Could you share a screen shot?
    2. Which client tool are you using? VS10 or VS11? Or other tools?
    3. Try to reproduce this in different network environment and see what will happen.
    4. Capture a fiddler trace which can help to check the issue.

  • Notes' file size limit

    I'm use Project 2010 , and i have a question
    I can insert my file when size  less than 12mb,but i can't insert my file when file is over 20mb,
    Is there a limit when insert a file to a note?

    TecLoder --
    I looked at the Help article on the limits for Microsoft Project 2010, but the Help article did not list any limits on the size of a file that you can insert in the Notes field.  My guess is that there is some kind of internal file size limit that Microsoft
    has not documented, and I would suspect you have hit that file size limit.  Instead of inserting documents in your project, why don't you use the Hyperlink table instead and insert hyperlinks to the files for tasks that need the files?  That would
    be an alternate approach, but the limit would be one hyperlink per task, unless of course, you would to simply list the hyperlinks in the Notes field instead.  Hope this helps.

  • File size limit of 2gb on File Storage from Linux mount

    Hi!
    I setup a storage account and used the File Storage (preview). I have followed instructions at
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsazurestorage/archive/2014/05/12/introducing-microsoft-azure-file-service.aspx
    I created a CentOS 7 virtual server and mounted the system as

    The problem is that I have a file size limit of 2gb on that mount. Not on other disks.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
    I would suggest you check your steps with this video:

  • Is there a maximum project file size?

    I am currently working on a project and the latest project file version I saved had about 922 KB - Premiere wouldn't want to open that again - it keeps crashing when I try to open it
    Then I opened up a new project - imported just that sequence I was working on and suddenly it works again with a project file size of 238 KB
    I have no idea what the reason for those crashes might be so I was wondering if there is such thing as a maximum project file size premiere can handle?

    Welcome to our community
    There really shouldn't be any load limitations other than those imposed by the Captivate files themselves. My guess is that you plan on using WebHelp, no? And if you are, the Captivate demos will be loaded as needed from the server. So the only lag you will see is the delay for what it takes for the server to serve up the demo itself.
    Hopefully this answers your question. If not, post back and we will take another stab at it.

    My premiere project file size just went from 190MB to 5.61GB... and now it won't open! Anyone know how this happened? Or how to prevent it from happening again? Thankfully I saved a backup project of the 190MB file size.

  • Reducing project file size

    I've got a project that I'm working on. It's 7 tracks of audio and just under 4 minutes long. But the project file size is over 2 gigs! I ran the "Clean Up" option from the project management option under file. That only took it from 2.3 gigs to 2.1.
    Why is it so large and what can I do to reduce the project file size? 2.1 gigs seems way too large for what it is.

    Don't know if you found a solution but I did. Here's what you do:
    im my case I save a lot. Like, I save after every operation. This causes Logic to keep lots of saved audio files in the project that I've overwritten a dozen times already.  I might perform 20 takes of a passage in a song I have.  Logic will keep all 20 takes even though I've deleted the audio file in the editor window.  This causes my 3 min song to bloat out to 2-3GB in size.
    When I'm reasonably sure I like the condition of my song and it's structure I will then do the following:
    Save a new version of the project. Then open "window - project audio". This opens the project audio window.  In this window I select "edit - select unused audio". This highlights all the audio files that have been deleted/overwritten by myself during my recording and editing. I then hit the Delete key. I believe Logic then confirms the delete command and deletes the unused audio. I close the window and save a new copy of the project. Now my file size is a sane number (450mb for example) rather than the 2.5GB it was before. Of course doing this I've eliminated the ability to "undo" any audio editing/deleting but I've already confirmed that fact.
    Hope this helps you out. It helped reduce a 6 min project that was 5.7GB back to a sane number of 890mb. I guess you can say I do a lot of, umm, takes

  • LabView RT FTP file size limit

    I have created a few very large AVI video clips on my PXIe-8135RT (LabView RT 2014).  When i try to download these from the controller's drive to a host laptop (Windows 7) with FileZilla, the transfer stops at 1GB (The file size is actually 10GB).
    What's going on?  The file appears to be created correctly and I can even use AVI2 Open and AVI2 Get Info to see that the video file contains the frames I stored.  Reading up about LVRT, there is nothing but older information which claim the file size limit is 4GB, yet the file was created at 10GB using the AVI2 VIs.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    As usual, the answer was staring me right in the face.  FileZilla was reporting the size in an odd manner and the file was actually 1GB.  The vi I used was failing.  After fixing it, it failed at 2GB with error -1074395965 (AVI max file size reached).

    You can't change it, and I suspect few email providers would allow a file that big.  Consider uploading it to a service like Dropbox, then email the link allowing the recipient to download it.
