Crawl Portal itself

We are trying to crawl our portal in so it can be searched and when results are clicked it will take you to the page and not the content item. But we are having problems following community links and pages. has anyone done this? We are running 6.0 SP1

Ok, so in ALUI terms I'm assuming that "butterfly" is a community.
Try the following:
1) Go to http://portal.plumtree.com and log in.
2) Type "Support Center" in the search box and hit Enter.
3) Look at the results -- one of them will be the Support Center community (within the top five or so).
4) Click on the Support Center community and it takes you directly to the community.
That's what the portal does out of the box. Is there something different that you're trying to accomplish or is that it?

  • Portal Database -- What it is? Can we store data in Portal itself?

    Hi Experts,
Can you please let me know what is portal database?
Can I store some information like Emp No and Tel No in Portal itself?
    Regards,
    Gaurav

    Hi Gaurav,
1.Portal Database holds the portal related data like iviews, worksets, pages, roles etc.
Refer to [How the Portal Works|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/42/BFA145731B1D64E10000000A1553F6/content.htm]
    2. Emp No and Tel No are generally for the users, so it depends on how you configure your UME.

  • Crawling issue

    Dear friends,
We have EP 6.0 SP 16 and TREX 6.1 SP 16 installed on a linux box. We are using our portal as a public website. When I try to do a web crawling on our portal, I just get one result. I also tried crawling the portal using a third party software and it also returns only 1 result. Do I need to enable some configuration on portal so that crawling the portal itself will work? The crawler does work fine with other web sites.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Mandar

    Hi Mandar
How is the behaviour when you use the light framework page instead , check this weblog
Coming Soon: the External Facing Portal (EP6 SPS14)
, however you will have to forego some feature , if you are looking at this an an option.
Technically it is possible build a indexable website using EP Eg:SDN , but this involves lot of development and moving away from lot of standard features.

  • Can google search B2C catalog details if CRM integrate with portal?

    hi, guru:
    One question:
if CRM integrate with portal, it is possible that search engine(Google) can search catalog details, there is an OSS message and it seems that as long as they make the appropriate settings for web crawling and the page is static they can do that.
However, do you know if a Search Engine would be able to find the B2C catalog information that is sitting within the Portal (as this is framed and I think B2C needs to be non framed to be found)?

    Hello Chen,
Barring other issues you may have with (a) the OSS message that explains how to create the crawler indexes for catalog items and (b) the ability to display catalog in Portal, a solution is theoretically possible.
<li>Give the [PCD (Portal Content Directory) URL navigation|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/2d/91e33edd37de63e10000000a11405a/frameset.htm] for the B2C catalog to the crawler generator. This should theoretically publish the carwler indexes with target to the portal PCD URL link for the particular catalog area or catalog item.
    *Gotchas to watch out for*:
<li>Proxy, reverse proxy, firewall etc that may be used in the portal / non-portal scenario for external users. I can't give the details of how to solve such issues, but that would require a good consultant. So, plan to consider these in your project plan.
My advise: first check this in non-portal environment to eliminate any issues around the crawler program itself.

  • Error while assigning portal custom role

    Hi All,
We have a custom role which we use to assign to the users.  till now we are able to assign it without any problem.  But now as i need to assign it to someone, i got an error stating that "An error occured while adding user assignments; to see the correct status, perform a new assigned user search".
Can anybody help us in finding out the reason of the error and in rectifying the error.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ravi

    Hi Raghu,
    Thanks for your reply..
This role is existing in the PCD, and this error is coming, while assinging this role any users... it is working fine with the existing users, who are having this role before.  This is happening only when we are assigning this role to some new user.
I dont think this has some relation with the backend, as the role assignment is part of the Portal itself.
And also here we dont have seperate UME, and we are using r3 users only with single sign on.....
    Hi Jithendar,
Thanks fo your reply.....I will do that backend roles check also for those users and see whether any backend role variations happened for these users.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ravi

  • What's the right way to start up with Portal's dev?

    Hi to all Portals experts,
I am really struggling to start up learning Portals and more specific their development. Here is the problem - I am a bit new in the NetWeaver  but not new in J2EE environment. I went trough all WebDynpro tutorials and really the documentation was written nice.Good hands-on approach with lots of examples and that is what I found with WebDynpro - everything well explained step by step.
But when I started the Portal’s Tutorials I was  a bit disappointed.
1.First of all, there is no explanation which tools one needs to start up with Portal Dev?
I only have  SAP Netweaver Development Studio SP15 installed on my PC and I don’t have any access to R/3, CRM or other system. Is this enough to at least start to learn Portal Development or not?
    2. I realize well that at some point I will need real system to play with but , until than what useful practice I can do on my own and how?
    - Even within the WebDynpro tutorial , the very first Part :’ Define a system’ - (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/cb/f4bc3d42f46c33e10000000a11405a/frameset.htm) -‘In the portal, navigate to System Administration - System Configuration - System Landscape’
Which Portal ? I don’t have System Administration on my NWDS SP15?Is is something I should install?unclear?
    3. My understanding is that NWDS SP15 contains EP , within its J2EE local engine , but is this EP.6.0, is this enough to develop complete Portal Application A-Z or not - unclear ?
    4.  PDK. Somewhere I read that Portal Application can be developed with either WebDynpro or with PDK. I’ve read about PDK but It is not clear if  it is Dev Kit as its name says , should it be downloaded , installed or imported into NWDS, again? And bottom line do I need PDK as a  Portal Developer, and at which point?
I only need the starting point for Portal Develop. or some guide that should set milestones 1st ,2nd .. I would prefer the hands-on approach. If some of you  has already taken this path and can help me with your directions, links, at least how to get started, I will highly appreciate it! Thanks in advance!Regards, Bob

    Hi Bob,
The below reply is as per my experience with Development so far:
1> It is not necessary to have access to R/3 or any other SAP/non SAP application unless you are writing an application in connection to them.
Example: An application which is reading data from R/3 and displaying the same in a table. Yes, in this scenario you would require access to R/3.
2> System Administration is a role just like Home, User Administration, etc in Portal itself.
It contains all the configuration related to System Landscape, Knowledge Menegement, etc
If in case you have not been given this role, you may ask your System Administrator to create the required system (PCD Object). You may then use this system from your Profile (Personalize Portal) link directly.
3> NWDS resides over Portal so you may create your own standalone application or application thats talking to the underlying Portal.
WebDynpro is used to create UI & likewise you may build Web applications or EJB applications.
4> PDK stands for Portal Development Kit. YUou may ask your administrator to download and assign the same to you. This would appear as a "Java Developer" named role in your portal. It contains all APIs required for Java development.
If you do nto have this, you may still use the Javadocs provided on SDN itself.
Depending what custom developmetn you do, depending upon the type the .par (portal archieve), .ear (Enterprise archieve), .war (web archieve) needs to be deployed in portal, so that users may access/view the custom created data.
    Hope this helps
    All the best!
    Warm Regards,
    Ritu

Further, I note that it has trouble connecting to the web exchange connector.  I wonder if this is because I used an alias (for easy migration in the future) for which the certificate does not match the name for?  I'm connecting to "mail.testdomain.internal",
although that's actually a NLB group between two CAS/HUB servers.

I'm not really sure where to start investigating at this point.  The only other thing to note is that after installing the portal, I didn't see a new management agent in the synchronization service (I thought one was supposed to appear, though I could
    be mistaken).

I eventually figured this out - it was that the portal management agent hadn't been created yet, I had to create it.

  • How to use the Enterprise portal as a web server

    Hi there,
For portal content I would like to create an URL-iview for a picture (.jpg file) where i want to put the picture on the SAP portal itself. So in this case the portal also acts as the web server.
    If this is possible.
Where do i put the picture (in which directory)?
What is the url to be used for the iview?
    thanks in advance
    Bertil

You can create a jsp page.  The portal will display it for you if you want.
    d:\usr\sap\<SYSID>\j2ee\j2ee_00\cluster\server\services\SERVLE~1\work\jspTemp\irj\root
Underneath this folder I placed a jsp folder.  I could have called it anything.  You can place pages here.  You can take a standard html page and throw the following two lines at the top.
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" language="java" import="java.sql.*" errorPage="" %>
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
And it automagically becomes a jsp page.  Granted if you really want to do fancy stuff with java server pages you will have to delve into some java and javascript.
I created an images directory and placed my pictures in that folder.
Then I created an iview pointing to a web page.
    http://<yourserver>:50000/irj/jsp/mywebpage.jsp
You can even try the page out in a browser before creating an iview.  If you are concerned about security you will have to place in within the PCD and do ACL to lock it down.
Good luck.  I am sure there are other ways but this is how I did it.

  • WebAS access via Portal: Web Dispatcher required for load balancing ABAP

    Hi Folks -
We have EP 6.0 SP18 (Java only, WebAS 6.40, Unix/Solaris).  The portal has a CI/SCS and one DI so we have a Web Dispatcher to load balance the portal servers. This works fine (and provides port 80 access).
This portal will provide access to HTTP services from an ABAP WebAS (6.20 with 6.40 kernel, Unix/Solaris). A landscape configuration entry has been added to the portal for this ABAP system. The ABAP system has a CI and multiple app servers, all capable of handling HTTP requests.  This will also require port 80 access.
    1. Will we need an additional Web Dispatcher to load balance HTTP requests to the 'backend' ABAP WebAS system, or will the portal be smart enough to handle the load balancing itself (perhaps based on the information in the landscape configuration)?
    2. If the portal itself handles the HTTP load balancing can you point me to documentation (so I can make sure I have proper configuration)?
    3. Are there any changes to this with NW2004s Portal (we plan to upgrade soon)?
    Thanks in advance!  Jeff

    Jeff,
    Regarding:
Q1. If you create a system object from the "SAP system with load balancing" template in portal and configure the object to point to your CI (msg server), the LB should be handled.
Q2. Portal load balancing is handled by the message server.  If you point a test URL to the port of your message server, you will notice that you are issued a redirect the URL of your dialog instance.  The web dispatcher is just a proxy (with some intelligence).  When a request is made to the WD, it makes a connection to the MSG server, the list of active instances is queried, a redirect is made to that instanct.  If you use WD, that connection can be proxied behind a standard URL.   If you connect directly to the MSG Server instead, you will notice your URL change, just as it does on the service marketplace.
WDs are good for providing services, masked (proxied) behind virtual names.  If you do not want the customer to see a physical URL of the server, use the WD.  There are lots of other solutions that can do this too though such as Apache, ISA, Juniper devices, Cisco LDs.  WDs have a very low performance threshold though, especially if you use SSL. WD is a performance bottleneck and should be benchmarked to see if it is right for your application.
Q3. No changes this architecture in 04s.

I tried using nwa but I could not get the search criteria to be entered for this .I tried using date ,time. but not possible to find it. What does this signify 0015_203196350 ??
Can I search in nwa with exception id ? IF so,Please tell me how?

I dont have access to server to check the log files there..
Is there any other way to check logs?
    Thanks ,
    Preeti

    Hi,
Well please check that if your server has logviewer installed, if yes then follow these steps -->
Add the reference in the provider.xml of tc.monitoring.logviewer:
To do this you have to:
    1. Stop the SAP Webas Engine
    2. Start the "expert tool" i.e. offlinecfgeditor under
    <sapwebas_home>/<instance>/JC<nn>/j2ee/configtool
    3. Navigate to
    cluster_data/<server>|<dispatcher>/cfg/services/tc.monitoring.logviewer-provider.xml
for both dispatcher and server nodes
    4. switch to edit mode and add the following reference inside the xml, inside the "references" tags:
       <reference type="library" strength="hard">
            tc~ni
      </reference>
    5. Repeat for both dispatcher and server nodes
    6. Restart the SAP Webas Engine
And if logviewer isnt installed on server then please follow this -->
Use the download center on the SAP Service Marketplace:
    SAP Service Marketplace service.sap.com
Support Packages and Patches -> Additional Components ->
    SAP JAVA LOG VIEWER
    Also do the configuration :
    Logviewer_use_NI=true
    Logviewer_NI_port=26000
    The standard port is: 26000

  • Sending eMails via Portal

    Hi all,
I have a problem with sending eMails out of the portal.
If I choose "Send To ... " out of the context menu of a document the regular pop up comes around. I choose the user from the ldap source. Everything´s fine as long as he has the eMail adress "...(at)plant.com".
But we also have one plant that has another email adress "...(at)another-plant.com". If I choose an user from this plant, the error message comes up "...could not send to recipient".
Is anybody aware of this problem? Needs another Host to be definied?
    Thx and Rgds,
    Andreas
Edited by: Andreas Bauer on Feb 22, 2010 3:20 PM

    Hi Andreas,
within the portal itself everything is configured properly.
You have assigned a SMTP server to the portal which sends the emails.
This SMTP server allows only to send emails to the domain (at)plant.com.
The SMTP server blocks mails which should send to other domains.
You can configure within the SMTP server who is able to send mails (domaine name of the from address) and to who you can send mails (domaine name of the to address).
You have to change this within the SMTP server.
    Best regards
    Frank

  • Adding !Doctype at top of page in login page of portal

    Hi Experts,
I need guidance on how we can put <!doctype> tag on top of page ie before <HTML> tag.
I have a requirement to build custom logon screens which i have build but when i put it in sap , it opens in Quirks mode in IE9 .
I have seen that when i changed its mode to standard mode 9 then it looks perfect, also it works properly in Chrome and mozilla browsers,
I have refer some SCN links which says to create java api to add <!doctype> , if we can follow the same then let me know it step by step as i am not that good in java.
    Kindly guide me ASAP .

    Hi Amit,
This is not supported currently. See my answer in Re: doctype tag for external facing portal logon application (NWP 7.3) and also the referred SAP-Note.
@Andrew: The question was about the login page, and this has not yet a portal desktop!
Anyhow, even if Dani Cohens explanation made sense at that point in time, meanwhile http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1713259 could be a good reason to change this. I would suggest to open an OSS message and ask for clarification, as with note 1713259 there is the possibility that also a HTML5 login page could be rendered successfully within a HTML5 portal.
It should be the responsibility of the customer (and this can be stretched in the note about the HTML5 support for the login page) that if he uses an HTML5 login page for the portal that in this case the portal itself should be completely HTML5, too, as otherwise a login page within the portal might lead to issues.
    Hope it helps

I wander how openning of adobe forms could be faster at Enterprise portal 7.0. We are using for ESS/MSS functionality.
I found out that firs time an form is opened it takes longer than next times. Has anyone some good documentation
    Than you in advance

    > I wander how openning of adobe forms could be faster at Enterprise portal 7.0. We are using for ESS/MSS functionality.
    > I found out that firs time an form is opened it takes longer than next times. Has anyone some good documentation
I would say that this is caused by the Adobe Reader on the PC, not by the portal itself.

  • How to configure Portal (3.0.9) with different hostnames or different domains ?

I have to configure an application based on Oracle Portal 3.0.9 with different domain names, for example: myappl.domain.com for certain internet users and myappl.domain.br for Brasilian internet users.
Can I configure the Portal in the right way ? It should reply to http://myappl.domain.com requests by generating all its url with this first part of name and it should reply to http://myappl.domain.br requests for other users, keeping all its generated urls with the correct first part of name.

The easiest way to provide search on just pages (not content areas) would be to crawl portal pages just like static pages. We have search partners on http://portalcatalog.oracle.com/ that can help you w/ this.

  • ESS & MSS users in ECC 6.0  into portal

    Hi Experts
How to get the  ESS & MSS users in ECC 6.0  into portal
    Thanks
    Daya

Open the door and let them in. *grin*
Not sure what you are really trying to ask. ESS and MSS are just grouped content in the portal itself. Your portal users will have portal ROLES assigned to them for ESS and/or MSS. These in turn will tie to backend security roles in ECC.
Now, "where" your users come from will depend on your portal configuration...like setting them to be authorized via Active Directory, an SAP system, etc.
    Kinda like this....
    user->UME source->portal role(s)--->backend security role(s)
