Crazy graphics?

Hi,
I acquired some data from an 1 channel at 10KHz in an "Unscaled 2D I16" format. Although I'm receiving most of data right, same of it comes in a wrong-pattern... As shown in the attached file, there's a sequence of
0, 0, 1000(multiplied by scale), 0
at each 1004 sampled data... so, for example:
sample - value
0 - 0
1 - 0
2 - 1000
3 - 0
1004 - 0
1005 - 0
1006 - 1000
1007 -
2008 - 0
2009 - 0
2010 - 1000
2011 - 0
.. and goes on...
I've changed the rate for 100k and also tried each freq. with other buffer sizes (1k and 100) and it still comes with these crazy values... I'm reading the files with the Read Binary File.vi example (with size of 2bytes )
Does anyone have any idea of what may be the problem?

You say you read the data from a file. When saving the file, do you have the "prepend array or string size" boolean set to true (which is the default)? Try setting this to false.
Hope this helps

  • Super Crazy Graphics Problem, HELP!

So I posted this in the Safari Discussion Board, but then realized it happened outside of Safari.
Whenever I do something that I would think requires the graphics card, the screen goes all crazy, as if someone took a screenshot and draw all over it with MS Paint. It just started happening 5 minutes ago and I am even having trouble writing this because the craziness keeps blocking the text box. My MacBook Pro is a year and a half old now and I don't know what caused it. I was surfing in Safari and suddenly BOOM. Crazy lines and squiggles everywhere. I remember reading about this a while ago but it was concerning the iMac. Can someone fill me in? I got so scared the first time it happened that I don't even want to restart in fear the computer may explode, haha.
Here is a picture from my phone:
    http://www.timshundo.com/dpud/uploads/0420080129.jpg
As you can see, it is not a screen problem because the mouse is above all of the crap and is still movable. It isn't until I do something else, like activate dashboard, when it all goes away. HELP!

If you're unlucky you might have a hardware issue and need to go through apple service for complete diagnosis/repair. Usually when encountering a serious issue I'd check I have all my important data backed up. Next is to consider some trouble shooting/diagnosis of the issue (if you have APP, may just not want the hassle and go straight to Apple service). Apple have a step-by-step KB article on how to isolate issues in OS X on your Mac, this is a good place to start:

  • Crazy graphics problem

My Macbook pro has started doing some weird things with the graphics. Suddenly the screen will just be a mass of squares and no further work can be done. The weird thing is that I can do a screenshot of the problem and the screenshot comes out just as seen, therefore I'm guessing it can't be the graphics card(?). I have an extra monitor attached and the problem will also spread to that one, therefore it cannot be the monitor(s)(?).
Anybody got any any clues as to what this could be? I ran Tech Tool and no problems are reported.
If this was a PC I would say it was a virus for sure!!

It says I have an ATI Radeon X1600 so not the NVIDIA problem.
That's unfortunate. I still suspect it's the GPU, but there is no free repair program for the X1600.
    Two things I would try:
Run the Apple Hardware Test from the proper installation disc (hold down d key while booting from it).
If the RAM has been upgraded, install the original RAM. Also try running off one RAM module at a time, then switch slots and try again.

  • Major screen/graphics distortion while editing in iPhoto.  Any ideas?

    Hi there,
I have a 13" MacBook Pro purchased in late 2011.  We bought the computer specifically for photo editing, as I have a DSLR camera.  The issues with iPhoto started almost immediately after the computer was purchased.  Here's what happens - I'll be editing in iPhoto (usually within the "adjust tab", not quick fixes).  After a few minutes, iPhoto starts seriously dragging, I get the wheel, then I start getting super crazy graphics distortions, but just within the iPhoto screen.  A few more minutes of this, iPhoto usually crashes (in rare cases, it takes down the entire system).  First I had the hard drive replaced.  No dice - problems persisted.  Then Apple replaced the logic board including the video/graphics card.  Still no luck.  I took it in again a week ago, and they are stumped.  They are apparently working with their engineering team and looking at "logs" (?) but it doesn't sound hopeful.  They tell me anything that could be hardware-related has been ruled out, but it's still happening.
    System stats:
Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.5
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
Has anyone had similar issues or hear of anything like this before??

First off the 13" Late 2011 Mac notebooks don't really have a add-on Graphics Card in them. They use the Intel HD 3000 graphics chip that is included in the Intel CPU. So I would guess when Apple said they change the graphic card they meant that the graphic system was changed with the logic board and the CPU.
Also the 13" MBPs aren't that great for Photo editing because of the Intel HD 3000 graphic system. But then I do run Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 4 on a Dell notebook that only has the Intel graphics and I have never had either program crash or give flaky graphic distortions.
I suggest you try Adobe Lightroom, Adobe has a free 30 day trial of it, and see if the same things happen. If Lighroom does the same things then it is hardware related in some way. If Lightroom doesn't crash and or give distorted graphics then it is something to do with iPhoto.
I personally don't use iPhoto as I already own Lightroom and Photoshop.
Lightroom is a very powerfull image editing program and a very good image cataloging and management program all rolled up into one package

  • Graphics glitching... Logic X or GPU?

I have the new Mac Pro Late 2013, 8-core, with D300 graphics cards. 64GB RAM.
I've been having lots of UI lag using Logic Pro (Logic always has issues though..), but I've also had crazy graphics glitching. It very much looks like a failing graphics card.
Thing is, I took the computer into the Genius Bar, they tested it for 2 weeks, said my graphics card wasn't the issue and that it's my memory. I replaced the memory (it's from OWC), and ran MemTest for four days. No errors.
Graphics glitching still happening though. Could Apple have been wrong about my GPU?
    Here's a video of the glitching: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g3t6h0au4cw6g03/LogicGraphicsArtifacts3.mov?dl=0

Run the Apple Hardware test and see if it flags the graphics card.
    "com.apple.GeForce(4.5.6)@0x8ed000
    dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.2)@0x5c3000
    dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(1.4.7)@0x6c7000
    dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(1.4.7)@0x6e2000
    dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(4.5.6)@0x6f1000"
That entry from your log certainly indicates that there is some sort of issue with the card. If it is the card you can take it in for service and have the technician diagnose the unit to confirm it is the card and then have it replaced.

  • How can I put my iMac intel core 2 duo in 64bit mode

I have an iMac model 7.1 that has an Intel core 2 duo so shouldn't I be able to make it run in 64 bit mode? How? I am in 10.6.8 and it locks too often to be used. I tried the Terminal  sudo  systemsetup  -setkernalbootarchitecture  x86_64 but the Terminal said it wasn't a valid command, what can II do to get back to work and not have to buy a PC?

Hi Mike, my head exploded too around page 50. I had bought a used iMac from an official Apple reseller  here in Holland. It had an old 250GB HD that was 2/3 full, I had to get my Apple software Logic pro 9 into the iMac, I had, in 10.5 been doing that by booting from an external 1TB HD. Many developers won't allow downloads to external HD's,music software developers I meant. SO the external was a working solution until Jobs died and the company changed policies. The Fire Wire which Jobs had gotten started was working beautifully and since I have many "music Sample libraries" which must be able to throw into a song whatever I tell Logic to use, it worked much better having the libraries on external HD's[all Fire Wire 1TB] so they could effortlessly stream the music samples into logic SIMULTANEOUSLY, since Snow Leopard they have all been trying to stream from the same single external boot HD and that doesn't work  well in Logic Pro. I was getting the locked screen that almost everyone on these 77 pages[you are late to this but the original thread had reached 77 pages when I found it] was complaining about, I decided[no idea why] to try booting from the internal HD, even though it doesn't contain the music software I use for work. It boots fine and shows no signs of locked screen or crazy graphics, but I can't do my job from a 250GB internal HD. I am going to the Apple store today to ask the price of installing a new 1TB internal Hd and more RAMM, 4GB's in music streaming is a bit wimpy, and a nephew of mine wrote to me with a link to OWC and said look you can now buy two 3GB sticks of SDRAMM that will work in your old iMac, so that would settle the problems of a 4GB RAMM limit. I don't have the time or money to buy and set up a new mac with only one FW800 port,I can't just replace 4 1TB external HD's with new USB 3's, so having this old girl upgraded would be the only solution for me. I am glad to hear you can boot SL from an external, there must have been something else that was causing the problems but I have to work and ******* around with a locked up screen means no income. This iMac has a core 2 duo, not a core duo, kbHT3696, yes I just checked thats the right number, I posted a wrong number before, sorry, although searching the topic here would get you to that article which explains that my core 2 duo can be 64 bit,I even held down the 64 keys when booting this morning to see if it really was a core 2 duo and it worked,I am in 64 bit,but when I attached the external with the music software the screen locked again making me hold in the start button to shut it down, there is something there SL doesn't like but I have no time to mess with what SNow Leopard wants,it is supposed to be working for me,not the other way around, all clear now?

  • Yosemite 2012 Macbook Pro grpahics problem

    Hi,
I guess this problem is directed at Apple rather than the users of this forum.
My trusty 2012 Macbook Pro has become a nightmare since upgrading to Yosemite.  I run my own business and use my machine primarily for Autocad, Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator.  I am having all sorts of crazy graphics-related issues - freezing, crashing, buttons appearing without text, rapidly flashing rectangles in finder to name but a few.
I've read the forums and there seems to be hundereds of people experiencing the same problems, after reading the various threads, a workaround seems to be turning off transparency, which has improved things somewhat, but its made the interface ugly.
My machine has gone from being solid, slick and a joy to work with to something ugly, difficult and undpredictable.  I'm really, REALLY fed up about this, I cant go back to Mavericks because I havent got a bootable image of the OS as its always been installed from the Apple servers.
When will this problem be fixed?  There doesnt seem to be an official statement from Apple about this anywhere and in the meantime everyone who's parted with a princely sum of their hard-earned cash for their laptops are left with a pale, watered down, flakey version of what was once a brilliant machine.

First be aware that you are NOT addressing Apple, but fellow users like yourself.
A possible solution to your problem may be as follows.
If your MBP came with Mavericks installed, by booting the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys, it will connect you to the Apple servers and allow you to install the original OSX.
If you MBP came with Mt. Lion or Lion, you should have a copy of Mavericks in your App store account.  Download it from there.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook pro locks up after doing the simplest tasks!

I seriously don't understand this. I am editing HDV, the most consumer cost efficient format available. I am doing a somewhat easy task - optical flow retiming in motion....ok no CG or crazy graphics, and my computer has locked up twice already. How are movies being made on the mac but I can't even slow a clip down without having to force shut down my entire machine I've got 3 gigs of ram....which should be enough....and I'm running the latest version of everything.

I am editing HDV, the most consumer cost efficient format available.
And yet one of the most processor intensive codecs out there. Decoding HDV for editing is very difficult...GOP and all that.
I am doing a somewhat easy task - optical flow retiming in motion
That is hardly a simple task. Just because it is a few clicks on your end, doesn't mean it is easy. That is pretty processor intensive in its own right...then you add the HDV codec. Yeah, I can see why the machine crashed.
This is why people capture HDV as other codecs, like DVCPRO HD and ProRes. MUCH easier to deal with.

  • Multiple monitor

I am running three Dell 24" monitors in vertical as my work area.  Each has its own NVid GEForce GT120 card. This has worked beautifully for about three years. Now, all of a sudden, I get bizzare graphics corruption (looks like large blocks of parts of the windows being diplayed, being dragged across a screen) on one monitor.  Depending on which apps are running, it can be on the left or right screen, but never the main (center) monitor).  I've run DiskWarrior and rebooted hte machine to no avail. If I toggle F11, sometimes the bad display will clear up.  Swapping displays and DVI cables tells me the issue is not with any one monitor, cable or graphics card.
Anyone got any idea what's up ?  I'm finding it hard to get any work done.....
    Thansk for any advice.

Great advice - thanks !  Two of the GT120's had a bunch of fluff on top of the ventilation fan.  Too bad that Apple had to cram them in there so tightly on the MB.  There was v. little space between two of the cards and they were choked. Temps on the PCIe slots are now 52, 57 and 60 deg C. Much cooler.  Running for an hour now w/o any signs of the crazy graphics wierdness.  Fingers crossed.

  • Macbook Pro or Air 13"?

Hi guys! I am about to start university and I have fallen into the debate as to get a macbook pro or a macbook air. I will be studying a course which requires graphics and I also like editting photos on photoshop etc and playing games such as the sims and zoo tycoon (so ones which don't necessarily require crazy graphics like first person shooters).
I will have to travel to uni so the weight of the air is drawing me in and the SSD but the processor speed of the pro is also tempting so I'm all lost now! I was thinking of getting a superdrive for the air so I can play games or I could just get downloadable versions I don't know much about SSD or GHz so maybe someone can help me out here?
    Thanks in advance

This has been discussed pretty heavily, and the bottom line keeps coming down to the details of what you will study, importance of weight which you already mention, and do you want to be able to upgrade the hardware in the future.  The MBA is not memory upgradable so you have to buy as much as you can afford at the outset.  The MBP is user upgradable in the memory department so you can add more ram if you find you need it.
For heavy gaming the processor will becomre more important, but also the graphics processor...no differences there.
The speed of the SSD in the MBA will maie bootup faster and loading from storage faster...but you will have much less storage space so the MBP will win if you need a lot of storage.
Just some of the factors you need to consider...and then visit an Apple store or reseller and spend some quality time with both models and see which YOU feel meets your needs the best.

  • IMac feels rather hot...

I have a 24" aluminum iMac with a 2.8 gh core duo extreme, and I've been noticing my computer gets really hot in the top left corner (looking towards the screen.) I have iStat and it here's the temp readings.
    HD: 130
    CPU A: 112
    GPU: 133
    GPU Diode: 140
    GPU Heatsink: 135
    Ambient: 79
    Memory Controller: 119
This is in degress Farenheit. I'm not sure if this is normal but it feels kind of hot. These temps were taken while my computer has been doing nothing but surfing the web for the last 3 hours, so its not like I'm doing any crazy graphics processing or anything. Does anyone have any advice?

    Your temperatures are perfectly normal.
Lower than mine by a few degrees.
Nothing to worry about as you purchased AppleCare and are covered for 3 years.
    "Does anyone have any advice?"
Yes, double your memory to 4GB.

  • Graphic card problem maybe? Since when I have changed the hard drive to my macbook pro and I installed all the new softwares, my mac is very slow and the screen gives crazy pictures, could maybe be the graphic card, does anybody have experienced this?

after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

  • Crazy lags on my MBPr late 2013 with dual graphics

Hello. This is my first MacBook, so I am new to it. It finally arrived to me 2 days ago.
My problem is: every time I start any game, it's FPS is newer higher then 30-35, usually even 15-20. This is very strange, considering this is the most powerful MBPr available. Another problem is that when I minimize a game, OS's UI start to lag like crazy. Once i close a game, everything is fine again.
I tried to turn off "automatic graphics switch", but this doesn't help me at all. My MacBook has 2.6 GHz, 16Gb RAM and 1Tb SSD and NVIDIA GT 750M. This machine should not lag like this.
My Gigabyte P35K never lags even on integrated HD4600 with 2-3 minimized games (i won't even talk about it's descrete GTX 765M), but MacBook simply dies from Diablo 3\WoW\Starcraft\Force Unleashed (which is a funny situation for both Iris Pro and GT 750M).
This is very very bad, because i am an OpenGL developer and Mac's graphics performance is very important for me.
    Any help? Thanks!

  • Crazy Screen Graphics problem

    I have 10.5.1 installed on my MBP 2.33ghz 17".
Twice now I have had the whole display generate crazy geometric patterns.

A friend that has a brand new Mac Pro with Leopard has had the same thing happen to him.
Therefore, it is not machine or application dependent.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Any fixes?
So far I have just restarted to get it back to normal.

I'm getting all kinds of graphical artifacts.
I first did a simple upgrade. Graphic funkiness ensued. So I did an archive and install. Graphic funkiness continued.
These shots show the kinds of things I'm seeing a lot of:

  • Crazy Guild Wars/WINE/Graphics Problem

Recently I've gotten back into Guild Wars (and subsequently dropped off the forums like a stone), but I have a very bizarre issue with it. Every so often, and I have no idea why because error reports haven't turned up anything, I get a graphics failure, the monitor turns off as if it isn't receiving a signal or one of the sync rates is too high, and a fan in my computer, presumably on the graphics card, becomes audibly louder and faster. This only happens with Guild Wars on WINE, nothing else will cause it to occur. Also, it doesn't happen at precise intervals or after a certain number of hours, it seems to be completely random. I've had it happen on load, 5 minutes in, a few hours in, and on a day off where I was just being lazy, I had ten straight hours of gameplay and no problems whatsoever. I've gone over all of my logs, and absolutely nothing is turning up to clue me into the problem.
My computer is quite new, I purchased it this April. It has an Nvidia 9600GT graphics card, the drivers for which have been out of beta for a while now and have acted quite well with everything else, including Quake 4, ET:QW, Prey on WINE, and Mount&Blade on WINE. Previously I was using the Nvidia installer to handle the driver, but both it and the Arch package have the same problem, in case there was any doubt there.
Any help is very much appreciated, and while the problem may not best be suited to these forums, even getting the slightest hint as to what could be going on would be great help, as I'm completely in the dark on this one.

Launching the game with WINEDEBUG=+all wine Gw.exe causes so much debugging information to pass that it slows the entire process to a crawl. It took two full minutes to even display the GW "connecting to ArenaNet" window to appear, much less connect and complete, something which usually takes 1-3 seconds max. It would be impossible to test the game itself properly, if at all, with that option set.
I can also confirm now that using the xorg.conf fix won't solve the problem, as 10 minutes in I had another blackout. That fix seems to be for a much older 5200 card on a CRT though, the solution for which is not going to mesh as well with a 9600 running a 22" LCD.
It could also be an issue with the monitor now that I think of it, which is an LG 226WTY @1680x1050, but I have my doubts that it lies at the bottom of all this, as I've heard MPD stop playing when I've had it on and this problem has occured, so I think it has something to do with the system itself, be it kernel or internal hardware, more than the monitor.
Thanks for the ideas though, too bad they didn't solve the issue.
P.S. The more I think about it this might very well be a kernel+WINE issue, as I'm also unable to ctrl+alt+backspace out of X to the command line when the blackout occurs, which could mean the keyboard is being disabled by a kernel panic of some kind, thus causing the problem with the graphics card. Nothing has appeared in the logs though, which is odd.
