Crazy Jump in footage

FCP6
I haven't cut in FCP in about 7-8 months. I still know it well.
But i t seems that one of my old problems are back. during play back i see a jump after every transition that is superimposed  over a clip. element on v2 and footage on v1. It looks very much like a 3 frame reverse in the footage.
Observations.
1. It can not be duplicated  by inching the playhead.
2. It is not in the source footage.
3. I can move the element on v2 and the jump will move with it.
4. the element on v2 is a nest with 2 nle generated tittles and a 1920x1080 png.
5. The codec is h264 created in clipwrap from mts files.
6. The clip plays if i delet the v2 element and replace the clip on v1 with the same thin on a fresh drag/insert.
7. when i remove the v2 element the clip on v1 does play with a slight speed change at the same point.
8. The transition is the default cross disolve added by right clicking the edit point.
9. The render file were dumpaed there was a fresh restart app and render.

You are certainly free to work the way that you want, but I think you are opening yourself up to problems down the road by not fixing everything from the start - and trusting to luck to get you through.
As I said in my first post, my suggestion was to return to the source files and transcode them to ProRes. You can use Clipwrap for this:
ProRes is a far superior codec than H.264 which is why high end cameras like the Arri Alexa record using it, and DSLR recorders like the AJA KI series and the Atomos Ninja record in it.
How did you look at your converted files? By opening them in QT7? Do you have the prefs of QT7 set to properly play back high end video?

My Macbook pro is acting Crazy....the Cursor just keeps on jumping everywhere and not responding when I use the trackpad....Even when it does respond it is very slow...I thought it was the trackpad acting up but realized it wasnt when i plugged in a mouse and it still did the same thing...this happened one other time and shortly after my computer froze...I had to restart for it to work but restarting dosent help this time...can someone please help?...Is this a Virus?

It is not a virus.  See my Mac Virus Guide*.
As to what it might be, that's hard to say.  You should try some basic troubleshooting...  Repair the hard drive with disk utility.  Boot in safe mode and see if it happens then, log in to a different user account and see if it happens there, reboot from another system and see if it happens.
Apparently some people have had this kind of problem caused by swelling batteries that push on the underside of the trackpad and cause all kinds of strange problems.  Is your machine's underside deformed at all?

  • Logo, hyperlinks jumping on the page!

    Hi guys,
I am creating a new version of my site using Dreamweaver CC (the pages are still in the early stages as you will see), but I just noticed that when I look at one of the pages (using Firefox - which says its the 'latest version'), I find that both the logo (at the very top), and also the hyperlinked text on the page (such as the hyperlink 'Shipping Locations'), literally jump around all over the place,  whenever I hover my cursor over them.   Both the logo and the hyperlinks move crazily from side to side - I've never seen anything like it before.  Yet on Chrome, they work fine and dont move. (nb. I am using Windows 7).  Here is a link, just in case anyone has any ideas, would be much appreciated!   http://www.mindtraining.net/dreamweaver/sports-mental-training/archery-target-panic.php
    Many thanks,
    Craig T

I've just checked in Chrome on Windows 7, and your logo is moving around like crazy. It's not just a Firefox problem.
I haven't gone through all of your CSS, but the reason the logo is jumping around so violently is because you're using a transparent png. When the cursor is over text, the :hover style kicks in, but when over a transparent section, the :hover no longer applies.
I managed to stop the crazy jumping around by applying an inline style to the logo, setting its display property to block. But it doesn't solve the problem of the navigation menu jumping up and down.
It looks as though you have a problem with the grid system you're using. In your header, you have a grid_4 and grid_8, but the grid_4 div has a height of zero, so the grid_8, which contains the logo floats all the way across to the left.

  • My cursor jumps all over screen. What's wrong?,

Cursor is driving me crazy jumping all over screen, to middle of sentences, deleting words and sometimes deleting entire sentences when I hit enter. Can anyone offer insight??

Try doing a smc reset. That may settled the cursor down...

  • Horizontal jumpy lines after update to 10.3.9

Hi. I've found similar posts to this but not exactly what I'm experiencing. I recently updated my 10.3 os x. I'm not even sure which one I had; got the mac about a year and a half ago and hadn't updated. I did about 3 updates, one after another and everything was great. (I've been told, recently that I should be doing updates all along, but I'd always kind of worked on the paranoid assumption 'if it ain't broke...')
Anyway, when I did the last update to 10.3.9, I start getting all kinds of crazy jumping white horizontal lines. Sometimes the screen's almost unreadable, sometimes it's just annoying and headache inducing, but even then, it's really bad. The lines seem to get worse if I move the cursor around or open up more windows.
So I backed some stuff up, and got ready to just install the system again with my restoration disks. I put them in and after I clicked English but before I had clicked go ahead and begin on the next window, my boyfriend said, "Wait!" so I canceled. When I ejected the disk and restarted, the problem was gone.
Great, right. But then, thinking everything was fine, later in the day I turned off the computer. When I restarted again, same problem. I can "fix" this by repeating the "false" installation, but that's a hassel and doesn't seem entirely healthy. My computer was turned off again yesterday, and same thing: start up with the restore disk, then eject it, everything's fine until the next time it's shut down.
So I guess these are my questions? Is this a problem with my updates, with 10.3.9, maybe?
If so, can I go back to 10.3.8?
Should I just go ahead and use the restoration disk all the way? (If so, do I have to wipe everything? Sorry, I feel really ignorant right now.)
Or do I have to buy 10.4?
I mean basically all I do is write and use the net on this thing. I was happy with 10.3.whatever I had before.
Or is this a bigger problem?
As an afterthought, when my mac was brand new, the screen went out. It was still under warrenty then, and mac replaced the screen, or something very important in it.
Thank you for your help in advance. I need this thing everyday, starting bright and early (like 2 hours ago) and am kind of freaking out.
    many thanks,
    kj

If your screen looks like mine (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/punu/powerbook17/apple_quality.html)run ASAP Apple Hardware test. Your mother board is perhaps dead. I also have those lines.
When I ran Apple Hardware tests I got an on the video memory.
Also, try to connect an external display to check if thoses lines appears on the external display. If yes - bad news - mother board is dead !

  • Coherence version mismatch

    Hi ,
I have a scenario where I run a bunch of coherence jvms in a cluster.
There is a slight mismatch in coherence version on the data nodes (3.5.3/465 p2) & that of the non-storage nodes (3.5.3/465).
I intermittently see issues which prevents the managed node from joining the cluster, with the following error  -
This member could not join the cluster because of an incompatibility between the cluster protocol used by this member and the one being used by the rest of the cluster.  This is most likely caused by a Coherence version mismatch, or by mismatched protocol filters (e.g. compression, or encryption). Rejected by Member(Id=1 ....
All my nodes have the same config override file.
Is it mandatory that the non-storage & storage nodes have the same minor version of coherence (in this case it seems like the difference is in build# right ? ).
I am using unicast listener for WKA which explicitly points the data nodes in cluster.
    Any pointers/suggestions , highly appreciated.

I was told by coherence support that having things on different minor versions is "not really supported". They let you join them together to support a gradual rolling upgrade, but they really want them all on the same version.
That being said I've never had that issue that you are talking about with things with the same minor version since the protocol versions don't change in minor versions.
There is no source visibility so it is impossible to say what exactly changed between those versions - but it is unlikely that the protocol changed. (I'm not super familiar with the nuances of 3.5.3 - we were on Ye Olde Coherence 3.1 for far too long and then did a crazy jump straight to 3.7.1)

  • Possible fix for CPU temp problem found.

Well, one day I decided to take the heatsink off of the nForce3 chip and put some good ol' Arctic Silver thermal compound on there.  I figured it might help with overclocking and whatnot.  When I took it off, look what I found(!):
Imagine my surprise!  Why did they even bother?  Ridiculous.  After removing their mistake, I put some Arctic Silver on there and re-attached the MSI heatsink (someday I'll probably buy a much better one for it).  I've noticed after a couple of days (it takes a little while for the thermal compound to set in) that the CPU temp doesn't appear to fluctuate wildly anymore.  Before I was getting crazy jumps from 45C to 65C, but now it hovers around 45C-47C idle and a little over 50C stressed.  I've also noticed that my overclocks are a bit more stable now too.  For those of you wondering, I'm using BIOS v1.1 at the moment (haven't tried v1.42 yet).
Can anyone confirm these findings?  Maybe something else I did fixed my CPU temp issue (I do fiddle with the BIOS quite a bit).  My guess is that the nForce3 has a part in determining/reporting the CPU temperature.
I hope this actually is a fix for some of you out there, but don't get your hopes up too high until at least one other person can confirm my theory.

It's very easy to remove the MSI plate. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers pinch the fins on the heat sink on one side together (one at the top, one at the bottom). You don't have to do it too much and be careful. This provides enough slack for the plate to drop out with some slight assistance. Well, that's how I did mine.
I then attached a 40mm fan by screwing into the gaps between the two fins. Only on the one side mind (so 2 screws in total). It holds the fan fine, no rattling.
I have some Artic Silver adhesive and I did consider leaving the MSI plate in place and fixing the fan to it. But I wasn't sure how secure it would be. Plus the plate rattles already, imagine how it would behave with a fan stuck to it.
Unfortunately, I forgot to make a note of the NB temperature before I did it. And I can't for the life of me remember what it was. So I can't say, for sure, how it has effected the temperature. I'm sure it has though.
I suppose it's easy enough to disconnect the fan to find out. I might try that later...
Running at 230x10 (stock = 200x10), MBM reports:
    Case = 37C
    CPU = 35C
    Sensor 3 = 49C
The sensors are labelled by MBM, so I am assuming they respond to the correct items, ie the CPU temp is actually the CPU temp.
This is after a hour or so with Azureus running, mIRC open, a couple of IE windows and SETI running at ~97% CPU
When I take the side off to disconnect the fan again, I will take a picture.

  • Why do I get a perfect realtime playback in iMovie but a jumpy one in Premier CS6?

If it's my hardware then I should get the problem in both programs. Am on a Macbook Pro, 10.6.8, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and have tried setting playback to 1/4 quality. I'm not using any crazy effects, the footage is HD from a Gopro. iMovie has no problem doing what I've tried doing so far in Premier.
Thanks for any help, am hoping I'm just missing some obvious setting as I'd like to be able to do my editing in Premier.
    Leah =)

GoPro pretty much expects you to convert to the Cineform codec for editing. So much so, in fact, they bought the company.
The program is free. I suggest that you take a look at it before doing any more editing of GoPro footage.

  • I am working on Premiere 6.5. why does my vid seem out of sequence and jumpy after exporting it as an avi?

I was near completion of an edit when my mother board died. I transfered the project over to my laptop, premiere could no longer read the source avi file that i was editing from. upon inspection I discovered that the avi file had becone corrupt and would no longer play back corectly so I ran it through a video converter saved it as a new file, this new file plays back just fine. When loading up the project I replaced the corrupt and AVI file with the new file. the software some how remembered all of my cuts on the time line. the vid took an unusual 10 hours to render and now plays back properly on the time line but after exporting it as both an AVI and MPG the exported files appear out of sink, out of sequence and jumps to footage that isn't even included on the time line.
whoever can get their heads around this one is a fricking legend.
    Please help.

Please tell us about your source footage, that AVI. This ARTICLE will give you some background on "wrappers," like AVI.
What you describe sounds like the issues that one often faces, when trying to edit certain forms of .MPEG source footage. Both the OOS and the jumping to frames, that should not exist, are both manifestations of .MPEG's on the Timeline (not MPEG's with Export).
    Good luck,

  • How to create a western-like film in iMovie?

Just like above - I am trying to find a awy to edit a film I shot to make it look like an old, western-like clip. How can I do this?
    Thanks,

in case, you meant just an 'old film'-effect (scratches, jittery pic), this effect is not avail in iMovie11
the easiest way to give a movie an 'old' touch: make it black/white
    but ...
Western created their own way of shooting (pun pah!) movies, and editing:
in High Noon, you'll notice a 'new' way of combining p.o.v. + scenery shot:
that shot along the hip; in movie lingo, this perspective is since called 'American' ....
Same later in 'Once Upon A Time In The West' .....
Newer optics technology allowed incredible depth of field: when Bronson enters the frame, he should be out of focus. The so called 'Spaghetti Western' created those crazy 'jump cuts', from total to very-close ...
I will never forgot Bronson's eyes, saw the film in a REAL huge cinema, his eyes alone were tall like a man!
It's not only 'effects', but the way of shooting and editing.
watch the many 'duels' of western classics at YouTube and learn from the Masters ...

I have done a clean install on my Satellite 2800-200 but I've got a problem with my applications starting by themselves.

    Hi
A friend of mine has had an crazy jumper problem. The cursor jumped and opened similar applications.
This problem was caused by keyboard fault. The technician has replaced the keyboard and since this procedure everything works
PS: You could disable the keyboard in the device manager but in my opinion its only last resort

  • Rendering 24h hours!

I have my first project set up in fcp on my intel imac and macbook pro
I have my main sequence which is 30 minutes long.
    Ive clicked sequence render all.
The progress indicator is currently saying 25 hours!
I'm rendering as when i try to play my clips in the timeline - i just get a blue unrendered screen.
Ive searched the forums and find people complaining about render times of 3o minutes - so i guess ive gone way wrong somewhere. Ive trashed my prefs and reset permissions already.
    Can Any one help...?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    OK sorry:)
Just thought the 24 hours (at 16 now btw) was so long as to be a terrible error on my part...
    I have two machines,
    macbook pro 2ghz 2gb ram
    imac 2ghz 1gb ram
Please forgive if i give strange figures for the rest, im new to video (web developer) but eager to learn, and i dont want to interrupt the running render to get exact details
    fcp v5
    original footage hdtv (1920 * 1080)
    my edit frame 16:9 HD (1400 * 1080 i think)
output as easy setup for 1080i
original source - dv tapes 2. hrs
edited sequence 30 mins - i using only one or two basic video fades, its mainly just plain cuts, and a few audio fades.
If it turns out that to render a finished product i have to leave a machine for a day thats fine. However, with my current settings i cant really edit at all as all footage is rendered on playback as the blue unrendered screen.
Ultimately my project s destined for web not film, perhaps with this in mind i should be editing at much lower settings? My thoughts where though, that i should try to match the resolution of the source material (this crazy 1920*1080 footage) .

  • So many issues! Please Help!

    Ok here goes,
Just recently my iphone has been bugging out.
1). Dead spots on screen, usually occurs around where 4-5-6 is on the keypad, is present about 90% of the time on my phone (in the last few days).
2). When I hit "call" and place a call, my screen goes blank. The call continues, but I can not access kepypad or any other features. I tried with case, and without (naked) iphone, same thing happens.
3). THE worst. My phone will go into "crazy jump around mode" and start spamming buttons that I am not pressing, taking pictures, calling favorites, and making the phone basically unusable.
Now, I have tried restoring to factory defaults, soft resets, hard resets, etc. Nothing has seemed to work. After restored defaults yesterday, the phone worked 100% fine for about 30-45 minutes before starting up again with the problems mentioned above.
Does anyone have any tips before I go throw my phone at the genius bar guy tomorrow morning at my appointment?
    thanks

    skennerson2,
If you've restored the iPhone, setting it up as a new phone, it would be time to set it up for service: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/
You can make an appointment with a Mac Genius at http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ and bring your iPhone to an Apple Retail Store, or you may contact Apple Technical Support at 1-800-MY-IPHONE (1-800-694-7466) and arrange mail-in service.
    Hope this helps,
