Crazy Keyboard Shortcut

I was typing away in Illustrator the other day and I accidently hit some keys on the lower left of the keyboard....not sure if it was Shift or Ctrl or something.....
Anyway, now when I try to type a question mark, I am getting a É instead. I have noticed the question mark now appears when I hit Shift + 6.
Also, whe trying to type the @ symbol, I get a " instead.
Does anyone have any clue what I hit, and how to make it go back to normal? I am using Windows Vista, and Illustrator 10.
Please help! Thanks!

It sounds like you enabled a European (or other) keyboard. I don't know vista that well. My first reaction would be to check your regional options and see where it thinks you are/what keyboards are enabled.

  • Disable Keyboard Shortcut for Open Adobe Bridge

Is there a way to disable the keyboard shortcut which opens Adobe Bridge from Illustrator? Often when I'm working quickly I accidentally hit this (option command o) instead of (shift command o) to outline type. It halts everything to open Bridge, which I never use, and drives me crazy. Is there any way to disable this command?
Any help would be greatly approciated!!

Go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts > Menu Commands > File and remove or modify the default shortcut for Bridge.

  • Why have keyboard shortcuts quit functioning - quit, copy, paste, new, hide

I all of a sudden have lost the use of most all of my keyboard shortcuts that I am sooooooooo accustomed to. The apple key shortcuts mostly will not work - occassionally some work, but the problem occurs in the finder as well as applications like work xL photoshop firefox etc etc. I have logged out and logged in as a different user but the problem persists - driving me crazy - when i go to keyboard shortcuts in system preferences it shows no shortcuts under application shortcuts/all applications. Have i done something drastically wrong? Can the shortcuts be restored? Help Please email me directly at gerard @ tetonartgallery.com if you care.

I changed the key repeat rate to slow and turned off the delay until repeat and the problem seems to be fixed. As i thought about what had changed when the problem began one thing was changing those keyboard preferences. I think i will be able to live with what i have -- THNAK YOU my typing skills suck, but the keyboard appears to be respojnding --- will i eventually have to replace this board or may it keep on KEEPING on? THANK YOU THANK YOU _ it is great to have people out there to bounce problems off of.

  • Why are all my keyboard shortcuts using the "Alt" key instead of the "Ctrl" key? I'm using Windows 7 and Firefox 5.0.1.

I recently downloaded Firefox 5 and noticed that all my keyboard shortcuts default to using "Alt" key instead of the "Ctrl" key (so, for example, opening a new tab is Alt + T instead of Ctrl + T).
I noticed that this is even true for copying and pasting within Firefox (Alt + C and Alt + P are the only commands that work).
Any idea why this is happening? I am running Windows 7 and Firefox 5.0.1.

Thanks, eveostay! That worked. (And for the record, what a crazy user agent string...)

  • CS5.5: keyboard shortcuts: CTRL+ALT and problem with ALT+CTRL

The problem concerns the CS5.5 version of InDesign on Win7. Incorrect work-based keyboard shortcuts: CTRL+ALT+?? (system shortcuts and self defined, eg paragraph style). We have to remember to press the keys in order: CTRL+ALT+??. Ordering: ALT+CTRL+?? (vice versa to CTRL+ALT) will freeze the program on the selection on drop down menu (File, Edit etc.) and inability to perform any other function with the keyboard. This is a bug, or might be changed?
If we use shortcuts eg: SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+??, we must remember to first release the ALT key and then the rest. Otherwise, InDesign hang in drop down menu...

    Welcome to the forum!
It sounds like you've inadvertently turned on the Sticky Keys accessibility feature.  Since you didn't mention which operating system you're using, I can't tell you how to turn it off.  Trying searching for Sticky Keys in Help in the Start button menu.
    Hope this helps!

  • Keyboard Shortcuts/Annotatio in Preview not working

I just updated to 10.6.8, and I'm having problems with the annotation tools in Preview.  When I try to turn them on with a keyboard shortcut, it doesn't work.  If I watch the screen, then I see that the key combo lights up the header on the "View" menu rather than the "Tools" menu.  If instead I pull down the Tools menu and choose an annotation that way, it does turn on.  But then it won't turn off except by choosing a different tool from the pull-down or clicking on a thumbnail.  I'm reviewing proofs on a 500 page book.  This is driving me crazy!  What am I doing wrong? What has changed? Can anybody help me?

    Hi there
Certain keyboard shortcuts are dicey in Captivate when delivering via SWF. This is because the web browser itself presents the SWF. Because of this, the browser has control and intercepts shortcuts designed for its own use.
You may choose to call that "Bad behavior" on the part of the browser, but it's normal behavior if you think about it.
This calls into question why Adobe would offer such shortcuts and allow them to be assigned in the first place if they fail. And the answer to that is to advise that these shortcuts *DO* actually work in EXE output.
As with most things in life you find there will always be trade offs. You gain something in one place only by sacrificing something elsewhere.
You could complain to Adobe about it, but it's darned hard for them to influence browser behavior.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Customizing keyboard shortcuts disables other keystrokes!!

I have long been a big supporter of customising my keyboard shortcuts. Typically I will change the behaviour of my keyboard F keys in system prefs to return them to 'standard keys'. This then frees up loads of F keys to use as convenient 'one hit' shortcuts, currently not employed in indesign (F1 thru 8 and with extended keyboard also F13 onwards). PS those crazy OS gimmicky F keys can still be accessed by holding down the 'fn' key.
However as each OS comes out these shortcuts cause other functions to misbehave and the only way I have found to get them back is to stick with the 'default' keyboard set. I haven't though as I have learnt to live with the few that come up.
Example: Running CS5.5 on OS 10.6.8 (my work setup)
The most annoying one.. Every time you execute a command which throws up a pop up palette such as Transform/Scale, generally you will enter an amount and hit return. Well when you have your own shortcuts running, all that happens is the 'return' just adds a 'space' in that entry field. So instead you need to physically click on the 'OK' button. Annoying, but not a deal breaker!
BUT my new home setup is CS3 on 10.10.2 – I know these two are a few years apart but they still work together (even after a shaky start with with Illustrator – another story!)
So with this setup I am finding many keys on my extended keyboard are functionless when my customised shortcuts are in play, for instance the 4 arrow keys – really useful for incremental movements. So I am currently flashing back and forth between my shortcuts and default – FAR FROM IDEAL. I am coming to the conclusion that the keyboard shortcuts are fast becoming outmoded and I may have to relearn the default set.
Does anyone have a solution so I can retain my shortcuts, honed over 14 years of Indesign usage?
    Matt

Michael, I think you right. The moving from one install to another does seem to be the problem as although I did have to re-align a few shortcuts, the majority were inherited. And so I decided to bite the bullet and completely rebuild the entire set and voila, they are working normally again. So thank you for your advice, it is strange that to continue to use your shortcuts, you have to go the long way round! So I'm gonna mark your original answer as 'correct'.

  • KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS using MS Windows on Apple Airbook

I use MS Windows on a Mac Airbook runnig Mountain Lion.
The Airbook keyboard lacks the convenience of a PC keyboard as it lacks a Page Up  /  Page Down and End keys.
Are there keyboard shortcuts which will give me this functionality?
I would particularly like to be able to move to the beginning and end of a document.
It would also be helpful to be able to Copy part of it, to the beginning or end of a document.

I'm new to Mac having just got the new 27" IMac last month and have driven myself crazy with the same issue, cursing leaving PC. This Mac came with the small keyboard so no number pad no Home or End button. In Googling and reading through forums it appeared the only answer was to purchase a full size Mac keyboard which only made me grumble more about Macs. I tried every combo I thought should work to no avail. What I did find is that holding down Command, Fn and the down arrow took me to the next page. And Command, Fn up arrow paged up..so there's your page up and down. I finally called the "genius" bar yesterday and the guy was as perplexed as I was after trying several different combos to get the cursor to go to Home and End of my 125 page word document. Now I know why they are called the "genius" bar!!! Not one to give up (either of us) he finally hit the jackpot by having me hold down Command, FN and right arrow (I know, right???!!!) and it took me to the bottom of the last page. Command, FN and left arrow takes me to the top of first page..so there's your Home and End and I shall now live happily ever after!!  (And I rescinded all of the 4 letter words I had spew about Macs) :D

  • Global Keyboard Shortcut for Text-Entry

I have found what seem to be extremely simple instructions for creating a Keyborad Shortcut which, when pressed in any app, will cause a string of text to be "typed." I need this because I have a problem typing numbers without messing them up. Let's say I want to have a command key (e.g. Shift-Control-Command-c) which would cause "+1-323-555-1221" to be entered wherever I am (TextEdit, a box in a web browser, whatever). Here are the instructions I've followed:
    1. Go into "Automator" and create a "Service."
    2. Set the service to "recive no inpout" in "any application"
    3. Drag "Run AppleScript" from the left column and then set the text exactly as follows:
           tell application "System Events"
             keystroke "+1-323-555-1212"
           end tell
    4. Save the script with a name (e.g. "MyAutoTextScript")
(note that at this point, if I press green "Run" button inside Automator,
"+1-323-555-1212" WILL be typed write into the script editor window,
           so that seems good, no?!
    5. Go into System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyborad Shortcuts -> Services, and find "MyAutoTextScript"
    6. For "MyAutoTextScript", set a shortcut using "Add Shortcut".
SO... I've done all of this and AAAAAARRRRGH, it doesn't work! When I go into any app at all and press this key combination - I tried a bunch of them - it just does nothing. Tried TextEdit, Terminal, etc., etc. No text is entered. Nothing happens.
At first I thought maybe the Keyborad Shortcut combo I chose was a conflict, but supposedly, it's supposed to tell me if there's a comflict (though I've tested that by trying a combo that I KNOW is taken and it does *not* tell me of a conflict (strange!), but anyway, no matter WHAT combination I try, NOTHING.
I really would appreciate help with this. I'd rather not use some crazy third-party app for something like this which seems like it should be so simple. And I need this because of the disorder I have to live with which causes me to muss up these numbers.
    Help is much appreciated!
    Thanks.
    Alex

    Same thoughts.
Spotify connect via mac. Play, pause, next previous works well with the keyboard shortcuts. However, for volume control using the the tiny volume slider is not ideal.
Any workaround would be greatly appreciated.

  • MAC Remote Desktop Keyboard shortcuts

It drives me crazy when in Mac I use cmd+c cmd+v while when using Remote Connection I need use crtl+c crtl+v.
Parallels in theirs solution support both combinations in Windows.
Can you add option to Remote Connection for Mac to personalize (redirect) shrotcuts ?

    Hi Rafal,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
You can try below 2 methods, if it success for you.
    Method 1:
You can set universal keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Application Shortcuts > All Applications, you can enter menu values (Save, Copy, Paste, etc) and then assign new key combinations to
    them.
    Method 2:
    1. On the RDC menu, click Preferences, and then click
    Keyboard.
    2. In the Mac column, double-click the keyboard shortcut that you want to change, and then press the combination of keys that you want to use instead.
NOTE:  The new combination of keys must include one modifier key and at least one additional key, such as CONTROL + F10 .

  • Keyboard shortcuts to user-scripts don't persist

    Dear Adobe,
theres a behavior of indesign thats driving me crazy. Every now and then i am forced to  repair and re-assign all my custom keyboard shortcuts to my user-scripts. That's lot of work.
This is the case when i had to flush the indesign preferences (most often in order to repair a disfunctioning palette). Indesign will then re-index the scripts with new internal unique identifiers and the keyboard shortcuts won't match the old unique identifiers anymore and get shuffled into chaos.
Also, this is preventing me from sharing my preferences over severall computers via a networked folder containing the preferences and shortcuts.
IT ALMOST WORKS! I can sync all my prefernces, colorsettings, workspaces etc. via Dropbox on 3 different computers.   But the shuffling of user-script unique identifiers keeps it from working for the keyboard shortcuts.
Please consider to find a solution to this in your next patch.
Is there any way to influence the assigned unique identifiers for the scripts to sync them on different computers?
    kind regards,
    Stephan Möbius

Ah right - that is very messy indeed.
The only direct route you have with Adobe is the Wishform https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
But unless it gets flagged by a number of people with the same problem and it's causing havoc then I don't think it will be prioritised as a fix.
You can also post this on the InDesign wishlist forum http://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/114445-adobe-indesign-wishlist
I don't really see where else you can add a wishlist to.
I think perhaps visit the InDesign Scripting Forum and see if anyone can russle up  a script that saves your shortcuts a bit better.

  • I can no longer do keyboard shortcuts since latest update.

I am running Firefox 34.0.5 on a Windows 7 computer. Firefox updated the other day and I can no longer use my Edit keyboard shortcuts. (ie CTRL V etc) I read an article telling how to correct this with a Mac computer, how do you do it with a Windows computer?

Firefox 35 was released yesterday. Please use Help > About Firefox and run a Check for Updates to get the latest version. Then see if that issue is resolved.

  • Suggestion for a New Keyboard Shortcut

I'd like to suggest a way of increasing the efficiency of editing captions and other metadata in Aperture by adding a keyboard shortcut that always serves to move to the next image in the viewer. For example, Command-Shift-] (or something) to move to the next image in the library. Right now, I think only arrows move to the next image, but that doesn't work if you are editing in a text box, so you have to use the mouse or trackpad.

  • After iOS 8 upgrade keyboard shortcuts gone, just reboot

    FYI,
apparently this also happened with the ios7 upgrade. Per the related ios7 thread, after a manual reboot of the phone, the shortcuts reappeared. The reboot solved my problem as my keyboard shortcut settings reappeared after reboot.

I lost all my keyboard shortcuts on my iPhone 5s after upgrading to iOS 8. They still showed up on my iPad Air (iOS 8) and iMac (10.9.5). There were, however, massive sync problems, sometimes they would only flow from one device to all the others, sometimes from one device to only one of the other two, sometimes not at all.
I deleted all my shortcuts and started from scratch, deleting “~/Library/Application Support/Ubiquity”, ~/Library/Dictionaries” and “~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~TextInput” from the iMac and KeyboardDomain from my iOS devices.
    Rebooted everything a dozen times.
Toggled Documents & Data Sync off and on a dozen times too in all kinds of combination with rebooting and deleting the aforementioned files.
Everything always starts working and syncing fine for a very short while, but sooner or later one of my devices stops receiving new shortcuts as I re-add them.
I reboot that device and it catches up. I enter new shortcuts, and that device doesn’t get any new shortcuts. This time, a reboot doesn’t fix anything.
After using my devices for a while, I notice shortcuts are entirely gone from both the iPhone and iPad, but not from the iMac.
I even upgraded my iPhone 5s to a 6, and right off the bat it had issues with keyboard shortcut sync. I also setup my iPad as new, and same thing: right off the bat, sync issues with keyboard shortcuts.
