Crazy lags on my MBPr late 2013 with dual graphics

Hello. This is my first MacBook, so I am new to it. It finally arrived to me 2 days ago.
My problem is: every time I start any game, it's FPS is newer higher then 30-35, usually even 15-20. This is very strange, considering this is the most powerful MBPr available. Another problem is that when I minimize a game, OS's UI start to lag like crazy. Once i close a game, everything is fine again.
I tried to turn off "automatic graphics switch", but this doesn't help me at all. My MacBook has 2.6 GHz, 16Gb RAM and 1Tb SSD and NVIDIA GT 750M. This machine should not lag like this.
My Gigabyte P35K never lags even on integrated HD4600 with 2-3 minimized games (i won't even talk about it's descrete GTX 765M), but MacBook simply dies from Diablo 3\WoW\Starcraft\Force Unleashed (which is a funny situation for both Iris Pro and GT 750M).
This is very very bad, because i am an OpenGL developer and Mac's graphics performance is very important for me.
Any help? Thanks!

  • Will a macbook pro 13" late 2013 with IRIS graphics run Wicher 2, Max Payne 3, Bioshock Infinite using OSX?

I'm looking to upgrade my old macbook (currently have a black macbook from way back when).  I wouldn't mind playing some of the games in the topic title but I'm not sure if they will play on OSX.  It says "no integrated graphics," but that's not in reference to the new IRIS cards.

    On low settings, yes.
Although I do not recommend getting any MacBook pro's with Retina. They are known to have a lot of bugs and issues, software and hardware wise. For gaming, just go purchase a PC, or just a laptop for the same price, and it would run the games fine.
Sony Vaio Pro 13 I believe would be a perfect choice.

  • Login screen on MacBook Pro Retina (Late 2013) with enabled File Vault is extremely slow (suttering)

    Hi
I have a MacBook Pro Retina (Late 2013) with enabled File Vault on OS X Mavericks. When I boot up the mac freshly it takes quite long to get to the initial login screen (which as I understand is a pre-boot login provided by the recovery partition if File Vault is enabled). However, what is even more bothering me is that once I get to this screen, the whole UI is behaving extremely slow. The mouse makes jumps of a few inches on the screen and the animations (e.g. if you click a user and then an animation shows the password entry field) are running in slow motion and only update every few seconds. Typing the password afterwards runs smothly again (altought for example moving the mouse at this point still behaves as described before). After loggin in to the account OS X runs fine without any hicks. Can anyone give me a hit what this could be and how I could resolve this?
    This has already been done:
    Reset PRAM
Boot into recovery partition and run repaired disk and disk permissions
Run all OS X maintenance operations and cleared caches using OnyX
What I could imagine is that somehow the recovery partition is damaged (which as I understand is used to boot to the login screen if File Vault is enabled).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just ordered a Retina MacBook Pro11,2 (mid-2014 15", 2.2GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, OSX 10.9.4 Pre-installed - Build 13E28)  and have the exact same issue.  The first thing I did when i booted it for the first time was enable FileValut2 and encrypt the disk.  Though I failed to notice this behavior prior to encrypting the disk, the stuttering/lag happens without fail every time I have logged in from a cold boot, locked screen or sleep. Additionally I have noticed the same stuttering behavior when switching tabs on various built-in OSX applications such as the tabs on the About This Mac > More Info.... (System Information) dialog for example, and similarly other dialogs that experience this behavior of resizing when switching tabs. I was running no other software than About This Mac > More Info ... (System Information) and OSX 10.9.4 itself.  The issue happens without fail with and without a USB mouse plugged in.
I am really glad to have found this thread and with such recent posts.  I'd love to find out that this is just a software bug that will be fixed when OSX 10.10 "Yosemite" is released.  If not, I hope the cause of this bug is determined soon so I can still exchange or have it repaired.
Migflono and Matthew, would you be able to post your hardware specs for comparison?

  • Problems installing Windows8.1 on High Performance MBPr late 2013 running Mavericks.

Hi, im currently new to MacOSX ( i made the jump from PCs) and although i think the overall experience on MacOSX is perfect i still need to run Windows natively on my mac ( i dont trust virtualisation programs.) and then i started to investigate how to setup bootcamp to "load" Windows 8.1 but im having some troubles with the process ..
1- when i open bootcamp it ask me where is the ISO. file (where the OS is), so i select my Windows 8.1 installation that my brother gave me and he told me that the ISO. have both forms of installations ( the 32 and 64bits) so when i load it on bootcamp it doesnt recognise the existence of the 64bit installation..
right now thats the only problem ( so far ) that im having with this, if somebody can give me some tutorial to install windows 8.1 will be really appreciated.
    regards.
    DanAtaD

Im downloading windows from this link http://www.123myit.com/downloads/ the 64 bit one, ( idc if its made to be downloaded with intentions of piracy since i have my license key) so illl try running boot camp with that and lets see if that works.
I also have been reading about some problems on the MBPr late 2013 when they try to install windows 8.1 in EFI mode, but they "solve" the problem instaling it on the emulated bios, since its much faster to install it in the efi mode ( better speeds at waking up from sleep, better startup times, etc.) are there any workarounds to this problem or the problem has been solved with a patch from Apple?
    thanks.

  • New mbpr late 2013 2.6GHz

    Hi there
I just bought a new mbpr late 2013 15" yesterday.
The battery is fully loaded but only has power for 3 hours and 15 minutes?
And the display brightness is very low..
Running OSX Mavericks, my old mbp 2008 has a better battery life time....
    Any suggestions on this?

    I have the same model.
There have been reports of incorrect estimated battery time remaining under Mavericks. Also, if you are performing GPU/CPU intensive tasks on battery power, these reports would be close to expected (Handbrake for encoding, gaming, etc).

I have a Mac Pro (Late 2013) with an APPLE SSD SM0256F as the only storage.  When I restart all I get is the spinning bars. I have to manually hold the power button down to force shutdown. I have let it try to restart for as long as 30 minutes. It will start just fine from a shutdown.  I am running Yosemite 10.10.2 (14C1510). I have used Disk Utility with no errors. The only time I need to restart is after a system upgrade. I have tried, as others have suggested, selecting the drive from the Startup Drive preferences with no difference. • I own a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) with a 500 GB Apple SSD SM0512F (Revision UXM2JA1Q).

I own a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) with a 500 GB Apple SSD SM0512F (Revision UXM2JA1Q). I’d like to replace this original SSD with a Samsung SSD 840 EVO 1TB. Am I going to encounter problems in trying to remove & replace the SSDs? That is, are they the same type of SSD, with same connection?
I plan to have a "tech" do the actual work inside the MacBook Pro, but I'd like to know if the current SSD can be easily replaced with the Samsung SSD 840 EVO?
Please note that I am so "green" that I'm not even sure if this provides adequate information to answer my question!

it's not possible to replace your SSD with 840 EVO.
Samsung 840 EVO is a standard 2.5" drive with SATA connector, while Retina MacBooks use proprietary "stick" form-factor with PCI Express interface.
AFAIK, there are no compatible PCIe SSDs on the market, the only upgrades you'll find are for earlier (2012) Retina MacBook Pros which use SATA.
If you're looking for extra capacity, external USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt HDD/SSD is the best option.

  • How often can i overwrite a SSD (MBPr late 2013 Haswell)

    Hello,
do here someone know how many times the SSD's from the new Haswell MBPr late 2013 can be overwrite? I mean the 512 GB Model.
Do here someone have more informations about the SSD? I have reed that it comes from Samsung but i dont know witch technologi here works?
Can a sector here overwrite 1000/3000 or 10000 times.....??
    Thank you very much.
    Bye

Are you SURE that you want to replace the hard drive rather than just add an SSD? If so OWC sells 3.5 to 2.5 spacers. EveryMac says this about your model *This model has a Serial ATA (6 Gb/s) connector for a hard drive as well as a proprietary PCIe connector for an SSD. As reported by site sponsor OWC, if the SSD is not installed at the time of purchase, the connector still is present and later professional or self-installation is possible.

    Hi ashwani26596,
Let's start by using the HP Support Assistant to check for any updates and drivers to see if that resolves the issue. If that doesn't work then go your Control Panel and then Programs and Features and uninstall the Catalyst Control Center. Then try installing both the Intel High-Definition Audio Driver and the AMD High-Definition Audio Driver.

  • How to fix MBPr (late 2013) slowdown due to defective battery w/o replacing it?

    Hi,
I have this late 2013, MBP retina 13" running OS X 10.10.2 which has a defective battery (with 'replace now' warning).
The computer is always connected to the charger (since the battery doesn't hold the charge) and I have started to notice extreme lags while doing day to day stuffs (like web surfing, word processing).
I understand its solely due to the battery issue and some have successfully fixed it with several ways
    1. Go to About this mac under the apple in the upper left and click on More info
    2. Click on system report
    3. make a note of what it says after Model Identifier
    4. go to your master drive – System -Library – Extensions – IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -Contents – Plugins – ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext – Contents – Resources – find the name from step 3 and move it to a folder that you can find again if needed.
    3. Restart and you’re done
However the above method doesn't seem to work since I can't find relevant file for late 2013 MBPr.
Would be grateful if someone can offer me a fix until I get my battery replaced.
    Thanks

The problem you face is that a failed battery can expand and DAMAGE the MBP.  At the very least you should take the battery out of the MBP (which will require Pentalobe and Triwing drivers) or better yet, have it replaced.  Trying to disable it internally does not solve your problem.
    Ciao.

  • IMac (27-inch, Late 2013) with iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) in TDM issue

With the late-2013 iMac 27" (3.5 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 3 TB Fusion, Mavericks 10.9.4) as the primary and the late-2012 iMac 27" (3.4 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 3 TB Fusion, Yosemite Beta 10.10) in TDM, the screen on the target display blinks off and on (goes black and comes right back after a split second). It happens intermittently, regardless of which Thunderbolt port is used to connect the two computers. The other Thunderbolt port on the primary is used to connect two external FW800 drives via a Thunderbolt-to-FW800 adapter.
Through exhaustive testing, and in constant consultation with AppleCare senior advisors, I have seemingly ruled out all obvious potential hardware or software culprits:
An AVR is feeding both computers consistent power.
Each computer's RAM and video cards have been tested with TechTool Pro 7: everything passed.
The Thunderbolt cable has been replaced.
Reset the NVRAM and SMC on both computers (though with all the testing I've done since, it might not hurt to do this again).
Both computers have been running the latest version of OS X (the target display is currently running Yosemite Beta).
Made sure to enable TDM after the primary iMac has completed its full startup process.
Turned down the display brightness on both computers.
Trashed the com.apple.windowserver.plist file on the late-2013 iMac.
None of these steps have resolved the problem and I am having NO other issues with either computer. I'm stumped, as are the AppleCare senior advisors I've been working with. This issue has been present since I first connected these two computers this way. Design flaw not revealed in testing? Problem part not revealed in testing?
Anyone here seen anything like this or have any ideas of what else I can try? Help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Dana

Purchase a Windows PC?? Gasp, indeed! No, after months of software and hardware troubleshooting with an AppleCare senior advisor, and me refusing to believe my brand new 2013 iMac could have a hardware defect, I finally took my entire configuration (both iMacs, voltage regulator, back-UPS) in to my local Apple Store. They were able to replicate the issue, but then misdiagnosed the problem and replaced an internal display cable. Within minutes of reconnecting everything at home, the problem returned. So AppleCare sent an authorized service tech to my home to replace the logic board. That seems to have finally solved the problem. Inconveniently, the tech didn't have what he needed to flash the new logic board with my serial number right then, so I had to wait two weeks to get that done. It did finally get done though, and now all is well.
    Good luck with your issue!

  • 15 inch macbook pro retina late 2013 with uneven LED backlighting

Hi, I have a recently bought a 15 inch rMBP late 2013 model less than a month ago through the apple online store. Since day one, I have noticed a slight grey band of shadow about an inch thick running vertically from top of the screen to the bottom about 2/5 distance from the left. It is obvious when the screen is completely white such as during startup. It is less obvious when the brightness of the screen is turned up. It is not so obvious when viewing picture but I do notice it all the time especially when I do word processing where the background is white.
Is my macbook pro screen defective? Can Apple replace it for me?
    Kindly englighten. Thank you.

Make a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple store. If it is defective, it sounds as if the display itself (and not the GPU) is faulty. Either way, it would be a hardware issue. Apple will replace the necessary components free of charge under your one year limited warranty which comes with the machine.
