Crazy looking cyrillic type font all over my address book.

The fields in my address book are mostly an incomprehensible either Russian or cyrillic font and I've gone through all the character setting everywhere in my OS and in address book but nothing changes. Is there a way I can trash the app and download a new address book app? It's driving me crazy as I can't sync numbers to the new phone.

Reinstalling the app will probably not help. You need to trash the font causing the problem. It most likely has a common name like Helvetica or Times with CYR or SLA added. Other fonts that cause similar problems are Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic.
If you send a screenshot I can verify the issue (tom at bluesky dot org).

Are the lines like psychedelic herringbone?  If yes, I had that happen once, it was something serious, like the
Logic board. The good news is that it was fixed without any loss of data on the hard drive. Take it in to have Apple look at it ASAP.  I took it to TekServe at the time, they are very nice about preserving your data and user library when possible.
    Good luck and don't panic.

  • How can I delete ALL of my Address Book entries and start fresh?

Yes. I know that sounds extreme, but……
I use Outlook on a PC at my office, and I have an sbcglobal/Yahoo mail account. I look upon my office Outlook as my ultimate contacts list (over 1,100 entries) and my calendar.
I use the sbc supplied free Intellisync software to sync all of my calendar and contacts from my office PC into sbc/Yahoo. That way I actually get e-mail reminders of appointments, etc. in addition to my Outlook notifications. It is actually pretty nifty.
I have also successfully signed-on to my Yahoo account at home on my MAC and exported all of my contacts from Yahoo (which had been populated by the PC Outlook listings via Intellisync) onto my desktop and then imported them into Address Book. But I did that some time ago and now my Outlook listings have been updated rather substantially. I would like to able to do a complete re-install of the new and improved contacts from the Yahoo repository.
Again - I certainly do not want to delete the Address Book app itself – I just want to start with a clean slate so there are no conflicts or duplicate entries (which in fact is seemingly a bug in the Yahoo/Intellisync. Is there a way to completely wipe clean all of my Address Book entries?
    Thanks

    Hello Allan -
Your help on a previous post was great re: my wanting to know how to delete the Address Book contents so I can re-import an updated list form my office Outlook, via my yahho/sbcglobal import.
Well - here is an interesting quandary:
I have successfully exported my yahoo address book/contacts as a .vcf file Yet - once I have expunged the prior Address Book data and want to now import the NEW Yahoo data to rebuild the database it only takes (enters) the phone numbers and does NOT import ANY of the address information. I am positive I did this once since our original exchange and everything transferred just fine, but now….?!
What I cannot determine is where the fault may be: does the export NOT include the addresses (in which case I am doing something fundamentally stupid wit the export) or the vcf cards are complete, but Address Book is not “seeing” anything other than the phone #s and e-mail addresses.
    Any thoughts?
    Dazed and confused

  • Lost all contacts in Address Book. How can I restore them?

I have inadvertently deleted all my contacts from Address Book, as a result of trying to delete them all from MS Outlook. (I deleted them from Outlook and they all vanished from Address Book too)
I gather I can restore them using Time Machine, which I have set up on a Time Capsule, but I've never used it before.
What is it that I restore to get my contacts back into Address Book please? I have tried restoring Address Book itself, but that doesn't seem to restore my contacts.

restoring the address book, restores the application but not the files.
Launch Address Book application and while opened, Launch the Time machine by clicking on its icon on the dock. Go back in time, confirm if you see all your contacts. This is what you need to establish and KNOW first else forget Time machine since its not there.
If its there, select all your contacts command + A then hit restore
If its not there. It will be difficult bringing it back, il be honest. you can go for data recovery but that's 50-50

  • How do i send an email to all of my address book contacts :

How do i send an email to all of my address book contacts :

Select them all and drag them to the To line of a new message (or, better, the BCC line). But be aware that most e-mail servers put limits on the number of addresses a single message can be sent to and daily limits on how many different addresses you're allowed to send e-mails to, as spam control measures.

how do I send an email to all in my address book?

    Hey Grupo Castillo,
Thanks for the question. You can actually configure this behavior from Mail preferences:
    1. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
    2. Click Composing.
    3. Deselect the checkbox for "When sending to a group, show all member addresses".
When you send an email to the group, only the groups name will be seen.

  • Contacts Created on iPhone not syncing over to Address Book on laptop.

Contacts created in Address Book on laptop do sync over to iPhone - no problem - but not the other way around. I must retype contacts daily created in the field to laptop. Apple specialist unable to find the problem. Passed on to engineering, end of January. Haven't heard a word.
It worked fine until I updated 1.1.3. I had many issues after that update and am really leary of 1.1.4 after reading threads here. Have not updated.
Also drives me crazy having to spin that stupid wheel to find contacts. Come on do designers actually use this thing?
On the whole I'm happy with the iphone

I tried erasing all the phone data as you suggested, but to no effect whatsoever (apart from having to setup my email/wifi etc. all over again).
There's definitely something strange going on with the iPhone -> Mac connection. iPhoto shows the iPhone as being connected, even when it's not, and is still showing 23 pictures, which is what was on the phone before I reset it (they are now gone from the phone). iPhoto also calls it 'Apple iPhone', while I've changed the name to something else.
Calendar syncing is still functioning flawlessly, but contacts created on the phone are still not being transferred.
What's more, the contacts I added to the iPhone before I reset all the data were still on the phone afterwards.

  • Lost all Contacts in Address Book

I had over 500 contacts in my Address Book. Recently I had a problem with my iPhone and the Apple Store gave me a new one. I synched it with my computer a couple of times and ended up with duplicates of my contacts. I manually removed the duplicates on my phone. I also have a MobileMe account set to synch my contacts, mail, calendar. A couple of days ago I realized that my Address Book on my Mac was empty. All contacts gone! I tried to restore them from Time Machine but it only brought back 40 contacts. I've spent hours with online support for MobileMe. No help at all. New contacts put on the iPhone and Calendar items do synch back to my iMac. AppleCare for iPhone couldn't help me either. I've been a .mac user for a couple of years and have backups going back that far but no has been able to tell me how to recover my Contacts file. Any ideas?

Mobile Me has had such bad issues over the past week or two...
With address book on the Mac, you simply select all the contacts and drag them on to your desktop and this will make one big Address book export file, that'll enable you to save and import it later on...
however it sounds like you are past that point, have you looked deep in to you ~/library folder for any scraps of data??? sadly, it sounds like it's gone, I had the same thing on launch day of Mobile Me... the MobileMe cloud deleted EVERYTHING, thank goodness I had a backup of the address book from a few months ago...
Time Machine is one of the most buggy backup softwares I've ever used, and wouldn't recommend it for any serious user yet.
I'm sorry this is probably not the news you want to hear!!!
Have you ever made backups manually NOT using time machine???

  • How to delete ALL contacts in Address Book 10.6.3.(1091) in Macbook?

I made no effort ever to add the contents of my iPhone to my Macbook. Ever. Right now in my Skype app that I have only Just downloaded have I just found ALL of my iPhone contacts in it's contact list. NOT GOOD. I am looking for a way to remove my iPhone phone book from the Address Book on my Mac and then remove ALL those same contacts from the Skype contact list.
I am now removing my iPhone contacts from Address Book on my Macbook one by one manually. Is there a shorter way of doing this?

    Are you using iCloud?
What is the file format you intend to use to import contacts? If it an Address Book Backup (.abbu) then perhaps you can import it. That would delete your entire Address Book and replace it with the backup.
I might suggest simply moving your entire ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book folder to the Desktop. That seems rather drastic though, and if your contacts are stored in iCloud it might not make a difference.

  • Custom images all jumbled in Address book

I have about 4000 contacts in my address book. Some of them had custom images (photo) attached. I sync my Mac, .Mac, and iPhone routinely.
One day, my Address Book decided to jumble up all the photos. Not nice. Is there a way to delete all my custom images from my address listings? I know how to do it individually, but there are too many to delete that way.

It appears that there is a major bug in this new version of Address Book. First I found that when you go in the "Print" panel, go to "Envelopes", go to "Layout", and then go in Layout to "Layout" submenu and use "Define Custom" which comes up "Layout Name" and when type in any name and click "OK" it UN-SELECTS the "Layout Panel" and you cannot change any of the parameters, BUT I discovered that if after you type in a "Layout Name", click "OK": and then click "Cancel" and then again open "Print". It opens to the same place as before (with everything the same) BUT with the Layout Panel SELECTED and you can now change all the parameters. I don't know about the printer printing blank sheets, because my printer seems to work fine. But I have a HP and you have an Epson. Hopefully those geniuses at Apple will get around to fixing this problem sometime in 2006 or 2007, who knows!!!!!

  • I want to copy Thunderbird from Vista to Windows 7 - including all messages and address book

I tried to do this using Windows Easy Transfer but it didn't work properly. It only transferred the basic Thunderbird setup and loaded messages which were left on the server but not the address book or the emails on Vista which I want to keep. Frustrating!

I used the Gmail option which looked more simple for a non computer literate person. It more or less worked after a bit of tweaking - I copied the gmail messages manually across to Thunderbird and also created my address book as that didn't go across either. All is fine now, thanks.

  • IPhone synching appears to delete almost all entries in Address Book

When I left the house yesterday, Address Book on my MBP had 2,187 contacts in it. When I looked at it this AM, Address Book had 4 entries. My iPhone and another computer, both of which are synched against this computer using dot-mac and iTunes, respectively, seemed unchanged. I didn't launch Address Book on the offending computer during this time.
My first thought was to restore using dot-mac. I went to another computer which syncs against my .mac membership, and I overwrote .mac with local. I then overwrote Address Book on my MBP with dot-mac. Everything seems to have been restored. (I keep regular backups of Address Book because of the large number of sync errors I experience, so I can revert to a backup also).
I then thought to look in my log file, which, I think, pins iTunes synching as the culprit. Here is relevant material from my log file:

Any thoughts as to why this happened, or what I can do to avoid it in the future?
    Alan

Alright, ten minutes later, it's all back and good again.
Doesn't make sense, and I do not know which if any of these steps did it, but here's what I did, in order that I did them:
    1. Deleted the file 'com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist,' quit Address Book.
    2. In iTunes' iPhone "Info" tab, clicked off all syncing except "Sync Address Book Contacts" and I clicked "Selected Groups" instead of "All Contacts." Then I selected the smallest group I have, just three contacts, so that if they got deleted from the iPhone I wouldn't have to die.
    3. Clicked "Apply" Or "Sync" or whichever the button was. It started syncing. I didn't see the SyncAlert window that I expected to see.
    4. Sync finished. I opened Address Book and voila, everything was as it should be including the new contact I made this morning on my iPhone before seeing that all this happened on my Mac.
And now step 5. In Address Book, File>Backup Address Book to my documents and my external backup drive and my dot Mac, and realize that syncing isn't doing that for me. Add this file to my regular weekly backups.
    Hope this helps.

  • Not all fields in Address Book are syncing

For some reason not all the fields in my address book get synced from one computer to another. The template for all the fields in address book are the same on the different computers but the 'Department' field does not get synced. Any ideas how to fix this?

So sorry...yes I'm using Contacts from Outlook.
When I launch Field Mapping from the Advanced Settings for Address Book, the Handheld fields that are available for me to map to my Contacts in Outlook, do not include the fields previously mentioned so there is no way for me to map them to a destination field in Outlook.
Maybe I'm using an old version of Desktop Manager??? Mine is version 3.6.0.63 (June 11 2003)...could you please let me know what version you have?
    Many thanks!

  • All of my address book information is gone!  Any fixes?

This seems to happen once in a while whenever I download an Apple update. I opened Mail to send an email and all of my addresses are gone. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    This sometimes helps:
    Quit Address Book.
In folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook drag file AddressBook.data to the desktop. Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and restart AB. If your contacts are not back quit AB again and repeat the drag/rename process, this time with AddressBook.data.beforesave
