Crazy static noise out of my monitors

A few weeks ago I was running Logic 7 on an old G4, and at times when I would open another program simultaneously I would get crazy loud static noise coming out of my BX8 monitors. I've recently bought an imac, and just now as I was doing some MIDI recording the same thing happened...it was very scary. I run Logic through my mbox and use core audio, and i suspect it might have something to do with these. Has anyone encountered this? Please help, I am afraid to turn my monitors back on. Thanks.

Hi Daniel,
does the noise change when you close or move windows? If so, you might want to download the CHUD-tools (search versiontracker or macupdate) and disable the NAP mode.
Works for me with the built in on a G5...
cheers
Martin
p.s.: Although it's harmless to deactivate the Nap-mode (puts the processor to sleep) for a desktop, I would not do this on my PowerBook. It would not only raise the powerconumption. It could also run me into overheating problems.

  • Static displays only on main monitor

I have a brand new 2.93 GHz 6 Core Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphic card with three 30" Apple Cinema displays connected (using Apples Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapters).
On a several occasions the monitor (bought about a month ago) designated as the main (by the menu bar) has flickered a few times and then that monitor fills with static... I can still see the desktop through the static, the mouse and keyboard works fine on the monitor, after a several minutes the static flickers out and that monitor is back to normal, or if I put the monitors to sleep that monitor will return to normal.... the other two monitors remain static free during these incidents... I have tried switching the monitors between the mini display ports and the dual-link port but I still get the static display on the monitor... I'll also try using a different monitor as main.....
Dud monitor or dud graphics card?
Has anyone else noticed similar problem with the new Mac Pro with the ATI Radeon HD 5870?

It's a bug in 10.5.6. What you should do is make export a copy of your photos that you want displayed from iPhoto to a folder. Put that folder wherever you want, probably ~/Pictures
Then tell the screen saver app to pull the images from there and it will work again on both of your displays. Very annoying.

  • MacBook Makes odd Static noise ~NOT SPEAKERS~

I have just recently reinstalled Leopard after a hard drive error (possibly caused when I dropped it 4 feet :P), and everything was fine. But I noticed that my speakers weren't as loud as they were and they sounded kind of muffled. Then the MacBook just started making this subtle popping noise, but that stopped after a day, but now it makes this horrendous loud static noise out of no where, and *it is not the speakers* because I turn them down and it still makes the noise. The noise has stopped for now but if I try to listen to iTunes it is VERY garbled. Could this possibly have something to do with the hard drive or disc drive or any kind of hardware issue? Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Just because you turned down the speaker volume but yet can still here the static noise does not mean that it is not coming from the speakers. Since something is damaged or broken you cannot assume that turning down the speaker volume will keep an errant sound turned down also.
Since you dropped the computer from 4 feet the problem could be just about any hardware component, from the hard drive to the logic board.

  • How I Fixed Audigy 2 ZS Popping, Stuttering, Static Noise Probl

I know many people have problems with popping, stuttering and static noise type problems, so I thought I'd share how I (eventually) sorted all my problems out...
I have an ABIT AN7 motherboard so these instructions may need to be customised for other makes/models, but the basic solution was to assign the sound card its very own IRQ in BIOS which is definitely not used/shared (should also work for other SoundBlaster cards)
Also, this involves changing BIOS settings, so don't try this if you're not confident (I take absolutely no responsibility for screw-ups!)
. Uninstall all SB drivers (preferably use Driver Cleaner Pro in Safe Mode)
    2. Install/Move the Audigy 2 ZS into PCI slot 3 of the motherboard
    3. In the BIOS, disable one of the Serial ports (BIOS > Intergrated Peripherals > Onboard Serial Port 3F8/IRQ4 > Set to DISABLE. This will free up IRQ 4 that was being used
    4. Reassign the free IRQ 4 to the Audigy 2 ZS card (BIOS > PnP/PCI Configurations > PIRQ_0 Use IRQ No > Change from AUTO to 4)
    5. Save Changes and Exit
    6. Reinstall latest SB drivers
I know this will probably not help many people, but it sorted EVERYTHING out for me, so hopefully it'll help someone
    Cheers, Mike

Cool. Hopefully someone will benifit from this .

  • Consistant Static Noise noise changes when performing actions on laptop, need he

I have a Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit External sound card which I have my DJ equipment connected to. The problem I am coming across is static noise coming through the speakers. The sound is there when the audio board is powered on?or off. I have already did basic troubleshooting and I refered to theKnowledge Base on this site.
Power of laptop is in a different source, soundcard has the latest downloads, speaker cables are fine etc. I want to check the Bios on my computer but I don't think I am that tactful to do this. Anyways, I will cut and paste my message I started on Mediamonkey.com, I am GDTRFB66. I basically wan't to know if there is a filter or a better sound card I can purchase to knock out the interference the computer is making. I Usually only run 2 speakers, sometimes I will connect smaller speakers through my audio board and run it through source. Also the ststic noise is there when I just connect my computer directly to my laptop and it uses the onboard sound card, so I doubt it is an issue with the sound card.
I really would like some additional help here is the post I submitted on Media Monkey......Next Message

  • Dominator GT70 Microphone static noise problem

Hi, I have a Dominator GT70, and the sound quality coming from the built-in microphone is so god-awful you can barely hear yourself, with the addition of static noise. I have a sample of the sound here:
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-3pHT8u7ussWWlqYkZNLTdlbEk/edit?usp=sharing
You can barely hear me. I'm thinking I might need to go contact MSI about this and get my laptop repaired - I have a warranty from newegg.

Have you run any of the sound software yet? Theres equilizor and other parts to it. There are also a few microphone tweaks in it that im sure will help you out.

  • Static noise in Game mode on Windows 7

I encountered a very annoying bug/feature after I installed Windows 7 x64, and the latest driver for X-Fi Titanium: 2.7.0007. There is a good chance that the same thing happens on Vista/32bit, because this is not a problem on Windows XP.
No matter what setting you choose in Game mode, there is always some static noise when using DTS Connect / Dolby Digital Li've. You can best notice this listening to some low frequency sounds when the amplitude changes. It took me a while to figure out that it doesn't happen in the Entertainment mode. Not sure if it happens without DTS/DLL.
It looks to me like bad resampling, because DTS Connect / DDL need to mix all sources into one 48kHz output at some point. I remembered the issues I had with the good old SB Li've! when all sounds had to be software resampled to 48kHz for the best quality since the hardware resampler sucked. I tested it by resampling the souce to 48kHz using a HQ resampler, and, indeed, ?most artifacts have gone. The most artifacts are generated by CMSS-3D (anything above 50% generates noise). But even that didn't fix it completely. The only thing that helped was the Entertainment mode.
I'm not talking about noise you can hear using hi-tech equipment. I bet you could notice it using low-end speakers without a problem. Creative should add this to the documentation, or fix the issue. Remember, Game mode is the default.
    Regards.

I read some other threads and I do have 4GB od RAM. I also tested XFI_SupportPack_2_0, and everything works fine there even in Game mode. Plus, DTS Neo PC also works perfectly (it couldn't be enabled with the official drivers).
I don't know if this is funny or sad. :S

  • Realtek alc 892 static noise

I have problems with on-board Realtek alc 892 audio. Im running out of ideas of what could i do to fix this static noise problem.Im using Logitec z-2300 speaker.I have tried headphones too and all of them have this static noise coming trough. There is no noise with volume at 50% but beyond that it becomes audible. It kinda sounds like scratching vinyl plates or makes popping sound.whenever i move my mouse or type something the noise is coming in.Also when the cpu is under work(while loading something when i click the noise comes in)there are leds on my z77a-g45 mb that shows cpu activity and when they flash the static noise/whine is present. This noise exactly fallows cpu work.At high volume there is always barely audible electrical hummming...Disabling on-board audio in Windows does not have any effect at all.I get the same thing in bios...
What i have tried so far:
    1.Uninstalled/reinstalled audio/video drivers.
    2.Muted microphone,hdmi audio and recording.
3.Switched cable positions, including mouse and speakers jack.
4.Tried other wall contacts in my room.
5.Updated mb bios to latest v2.7
6.Reseated hardware inside pc/cleaned of dust.
7.Cpu oc does not cause this.Same problem with stock clocks.

I have the same problem, have tried 3 PSUs, and nothing, the only solution was to buy an pci-e sound card.
The problem appear when MSI updated BIOS 2.0 to 2.1.
Please don't hijack other people threads, and why don't you flash back to 2.0 or the newest beta? Start your own thread and we can discuss this.

I took gtx 560 ti completely out but no luck. Also took psu out temporary and placed it on the floor. Not even a slight change
Taking the psu out doesn't really do anything, taking the mainboard out and placing it on a non-conductive surface is what I was recommending.  Test with the cpu, cooler, 1 stick of ram, igd and y our mouse / keyboard. After some other things though.
Testing with a different PSU would be good to rule that out as the culprit.

  • Static Noise

I posted this on the wrong ipod thread, since I found out I own a 5th gen. Anyway, I've found some threads about the static noise problem in the Ipod classics. I wonder if anyone has experience connecting the ipod to a sound system such as the Kenwood or Pioneer Avic-X3, the latter I now own. These car systems are state of the art, and one of the few systems who allow direct control over the ipod. I wanted the very best, so I specifically bought the Ipod for this purpose.
The problem is the audio quality because of static noise is simply terrible. Even if no music is playing there is a continues buzzing sound through the sound system (probably the HDD) which gets worse when you turn up the volume. turning off the EQ in the ipod makes no difference. Pioneer blames the Ipod, and by checking various threads it seems this is a genuine problem. What advise would you guys give me, is it worth raising this with Apple by going back to the store? I can't believe I spend more then 2000 Euros on this entire system and having this crap quality.

    Hi,
To start with, download and install the latest IDT driver on the link below.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp51501-52000/sp51930.exe
After the installation has completed, restart the notebook and see if this has helped the issue.

  • My iPod touch 4g is making a static noise in the speaker and in headphones help!!!!!!

It makes this loud static/cracking noise out of the speaker whenever I try to play music or a video . It also does this out of the headphone jack to I know this because I have a brand new pair of beats by dre solo hds and there's still static in the bit when I tried it on a different device the headphones worked perfectly fine.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • S90 Static noise during video recording

Everytime I do video recording on my S90, I can hear static noise during playback.
Does anyone else face this problem? Is this hardware or software related?

    Update the S90 via OTA
Once that is done then try again. If problem persist then open dialer and press ####1111#.
In engineering mode, select back mic test in Item test. This will record via back mic and will playback. If you still hear static during this time then bring it to the service center.

  • Tactic3D Alpha Static Noise / Sound Distortion

I recently bought a Tactic3D Alpha and I'm having some problems with it. At first, when talking to my friends on Skype, they kept telling me that they could barely hear me (mic volume was at 100%), then I saw the "new" firmware and installed it (before installing it, it seemed that the one I had was more recent, but I'm not sure, since they don't specify any date, only a hexadecimal(I think) version).
After that, I didn't notice any volume improvement of the mic (my friends kept telling me that I was talking "inside a well"). But a bit later I started noticing that when some sound (Windows sounds, music, etc.) was playing there was always some static noise. In some cases, on some songs with lots of bass, the sound even got distorted. The static noise is even more noticeable when using earphones connected through the usb soundcard.
Even when using the default Windows 7 (x64) driver (the one that is automatically installed) this issue happens. It also happens on Ubuntu 10.04. So it makes me believe it's either a firmware or a hardware problem.
I'm not sure if it was the firmware update that started this problem, but I don't remember noticing any static noise before the update.
    Firmware Version I have now: D0_01_21 .
I don't remember exactly what was the version of the firmware the came on it.
Is there any other firmware available that I can try and see if it fixes my problem, even if it's older than this one?
Using the headset connected to my onboard soundcard (a Realtek one) works fine. Mic volume is decent and no static noise / distortion is noticeable. The only drawback is that I can't use the enhancements that the USB soundcard of the Tactic3D Alpha offers.

  • Occasional garbled static blurting out of speakers

Hello. I recently installed Windows 7 on my MBP (non-retina) without a hitch, and everything works like a charm so far. However, every so often, a rather shockingly loud garbled static noise is emitted from my MBP's speakers (usually when playing music, though it's done this before while no music or media players were opened). It always comes out of the speakers of the laptop itself even if headphones or external speakers are plugged in. Is this a driver glitch? Is something wrong with my MBP?

(The MBP is also brand new, so I doubt that there would be problems with the logic board or the computer hardware itself.)

  • Static noise than no music

IPOD Video: I have the same exact problem...bought my back in November worked well till about three weeks ago. Starts playing than static noise excessively loud after 10-20 minutes of running. After static for a few seconds goes away including the music. I tried several headphones and my ipod connection in my car even the docking station connection with no sound. Several hours later it works again but starts the problem all over again. I sent it to IPOD apple for repairs and they found no trouble. I played it again seemed like things were ok but startes up again after an half an hour. I called apple suport so I shipped it out again. I haven't received it yet but its on its way back home and apparently the techs didn't find a problem with it. It seems like if the temperature is higher than 80 degrees it doesn't work right. I beleive the problem is in the sound card...if it was my computer thats what I would replace. Has anyone finally had their IPOD repaired from the loud static noise and no sound?

Yes I reformatted it and restored it without any change in playback. Most of the time it will not play any of the songs. Please help!!!
