Creatae a new library?

My mom and I have an ipod and I don't want her music on my ipod and she doesn't want my music on her ipod. Is there any way I can separate our music by creating a new library? Or is there another way to do it? Thanks

With most the music I have on the iPod which is also on the computer I have in a My Music file in My Documents. I think there is a way to make to separate Library files by clicking the plus sign, all self explaintory.
Make sure the setting about the new music being uploaded straight to iPod is turned off because otherwise urs and ur mums music may get mixed up on the different iPods.
Hope this helps,

  • Can you Import  albums/matadata from a vault to a new library ?

After using ver3.01 for a few weeks and getting comfortable with it, I converted & upgraded several older managed libraries. All went well except for the last one. There must be some corrupted images somewhere in that 200Gig Library, for all the horror stories I read about on this forum materialized - The endless hours, the spinning beach ball, the crashes etc.
Since I had backed up this Library with vaults ( I was not able to rebuild from the vault either ), I knew that by RIght Clicking on the Vault and "show package content" I could access & rescue the projects individually. That worked and here I come to the part I could not successfully complete -import an existing album to a new library.
Where I had both projects and albums residing inside a folder - I could move the projects to a new Library, but not the Albums. Is there a way to do that ?

I would say no. I have an Ipad2 with the connection kit. A recent Sony camera which works fine in imovie for my 27" imac, but nothing with the Ipad. Only thing that it finds are pictures that can be made with the same video camera. Apple wrote a note aboit probkmes with importing, but i'm very disappointed with what i have right now.

  • Creating a new library from a DVD Burn library

I have my entire library of photos on my iMac in iPhoto 6.0.6. I recently spent quite a bit of time cleaning up what had been a rather messy, unorganized, photo library. My organizational method consisted of consolidating old film rolls which were inherited from original imports that were in different folders by moving groups of photos into single "film rolls" for older years and making fewer rolls for the last few years. I then went back through and corrected photo dates for a bunch of images that were scanned in, etc. I downloaded Keyword Manager, which I like a lot, and applied keywords to every photo in my collection. I also deleted a bunch of old photos which were too similar to better shots or simply not worth keeping. Once I finished all of this I had my new library consisting of 1892 pictures, which I hoped to backup and allow to serve as a "gold master copy" of all of my photos to date. In browsing the database in Finder, I noted that there were a lot of images in the "Original" folders that were not in the library. Some of these were images I had deleted in the library. (I know better than to do anything through the finder other than browse. I know that to maintain integrity of the library it is necessary to only perform actions through iPhoto.) I did a database rebuild and asked iPhoto to recover orphaned files which did nothing. I really wanted this database to be in pristine condition since I was using it as my master copy, but could not figure out how to do away with old unwanted images in the "originals" folders. I went ahead and created a DVD library with "Share -> Burn", and voila, the new iPhoto Library that was created on the DVD appeared to be "clean" with only the 1892 pictures in my viewable library existing in the Originals folder. OK, so far so good. I then took the DVD I had burned and attempted to replicate my library on my iBook which had a clean install of iLife '06 on it. When I launched iPhoto with the DVD in place it showed me an empty hard drive library and the burned library from the DVD. At first I attempted to just copy individual Film Rolls from the DVD to the local library. While this worked in bring the images over, the keywords became all jumbled. The resulting photos would have keywords attached which did not belong to them and were different from what was on the DVD. I then deleted the iBook library and tried copying the entire iPhoto Library folder from the DVD to the iBook via the Finder. When I relaunched iPhoto, presto all the photos were in my local library with keywords, film rolls and other metadata intact. However in browsing the library I came across a few photos which would cause iPhoto to crash when I tried to edit them. This was a consistent behavior on specific images. Reading through the forums I came across the color profile bug and through testing verified that this was not the problem. Meanwhile back on the iMac I could edit the photos in question with no problem. I verified that the image had not been corrupted during the DVD burn as well. The files are identical between the iMac and the iBook. I know this is a long drawn out post, but if anybody has read this far, here are my questions ...
    1) What is the best way to go about creating a "clean" database with internal integrity after a doing a lot of edits and metadata changes? Shouldn't the burn to DVD do what I want?
    2) How come when I copied subsets of my library over to a new machine from the DVD, the keywords seemed to get all jumbled? Is it a matter of indexing them? If I added all the keywords to an empty library before copying the images over, would it work? Is there not a way to just copy portions of a DVD library into another library?
    3) Any ideas on the crash while attempting to edit problem? The image will load as a thumbnail, and then briefly flas the full size image, before iPhoto crashes and pops up a dialog asking if I want to restart it.
    Thanks for staying with me!

  • I have deleted music from itunes but they are still in my computers 'iTunes' file - how do I sync my new library to my computer's saved version?

So I have gone back to my 8GB nano and needed to downsize my library so that the songs fit on.
I went through deleting songs and made sure that I clicked 'send to recycle bin' instead of save file.
    Library looks great.
Go to 'My Music' and 'iTunes' and all the flipping songs are still there!
Tried empyting recycle bin, restarting computer, read lots of comments/forums on this problem but have not yet found a way to sync my new library with my computers stored library.
    Please help?

Thank you for your reply, what I am trying to achieve is for my newly edited iTunes Library to be what is also stored on my computers hard drive - currently all the deleted songs are stored too (even though I clicked for them to be deleted from my computer).
I appreciate that I could have just created a smaller playlist but I actually wanted to get rid of music I don't listen to anymore.
So at the moment I have an iTunes library that I want to back up on my external hard drive - but if I go to my music>iTunes music to transfer to external hard drive it has all my deleted songs too, which I no longer want.
    Any help for that matter?

  • Why is iTunes 11.1 asking me to create a new library every time I open it?

Every time I open iTunes 11.1 I have to load my library file manually...it does not just open automatically.  It asks if I want to create a new library or load a previous library each time I open the application.   I fixed permissions on my hard drive but it does not seem to help.  Also, Safari is acting strange...when I click on a link in a page it downloads the HTML file instead of opening the new link.  Lots of quirky stuff happening!  Had to restore my HD last night from Time Machine...still acting weird.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I did allllll that is listed below, but when I get to sync iPad, it won't sync, what do I do? Preparation Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab

THis is what I did, but when I get to sync, it won't sync.....what do I doLynnLynn
    Preparation
Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab of the the preferences panel via Edit > Preferences (Windows) or iTunes > Preferences (Mac) and ensure the box next to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically is ticked. You can now safely connect the device to your computer without the danger of media being automatically deleted or overwritten.
If this device contains contacts or calendar items that are not already on the computer you are using, and that you wish to recover, then make sure you have at least one contact & one event in the applications that will sync with the device (e.g. Windows Address Book or Outlook under Windows, iCal & Address Book on a Mac).Dummy entries will do, but there must be at least one if the data is to be retrieved from the device in step 7 below.
    Transfer purchases
You can transfer your iTunes Store purchases into a new library, after connecting the device, with the menu itemFile > Transfer Purchases from <Device>. You should be prompted to authorize the computer to your iTunes account if you have not already done so. If your device holds content from more than one account you will need to authorize each one.
See also: HT1848 - iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer.
    Back up (iOS only)
If this is an iOS device you should now right-click on it (control-click on a Mac) in the left-hand column of the iTunes window and click Back Up to make a backup of the current settings and application data on the device.
    Recover other media
iTunes only permits the transfer of iTunes Store purchases. If your device contains other media that you've ripped from CD or downloaded from other online stores you can either go back to the original sources or use third party software to extract your data from your device. There is a list of some of the software available below.
    Recover other purchases
Your device may not have held all your iTunes Store purchases. You can recover qualifying purchases from your account by visiting the home page of the iTunes Store and clicking on the Purchased link in the Quick Linkssection in the right-hand column.
See also: HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Restore (iOS only)
Having backed up your device, and rescued all the media from it that you can, you should now restore the device from the backup that you took earlier to ensure that the device is properly associated with this new library. Right-click on it (control-click on a Mac) in the left-hand column of the iTunes window and click Restore from Backup...
    Sync
Set up your preferences for syncing Music, TV Shows, Podcasts, Info etc. then click Sync. For a device that holds calendar or contact information you should be prompted to restore or merge. Click merge to copy this information into your computer. Your device is now properly associated with your new library and you shouldn't have lost any data.
    Backup your library
For the future you should backup your library to a separate hard drive or network share as restoring a backup is much easier than the process above. The user tip Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy gives a suggested way of doing this effectively for Windows users. Mac owners can make use of Time Machine, or useCarbon Copy Cloner which does a similar job to SyncToy.

  • PC died and in turn my main iTunes library. iPhone was synced to it. Now when I try to connect to another library it tells me the phone must be wiped clean before I can manage music with new library. Any way around that? Don't want to lose music.

My PC died and in turn so did my main iTunes library.  My iPhone was synced to the library that is gone.  Now when I try to connect to another library, it tells me the phone must be wiped clean before I can manage music with new library.  Any way around that?  I don't want to lose the music that is on my phone.  I am looking for a way to tell the phone to "forget" the old library and let me start working with a new library.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy of your computer to put everything on the new one.
It sounds like you have failed to do this, which is not good at all.
You will have to transfer your itunes purchases from your iphone.  Authorize your computer for your itunes account
About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization
Open itunes, plug in iphone, do NOT sync, click File>Transfer Purchases
When you do sync you will lose your pics ( photo library - synced from your old computer), your itunes content ( music, apps, videos, etc) , your contacts and your calendars.  So do NOT sync yet.  This is why a backup copy is so important.
Enter one unique contact and calendar entry on your computer.
When you first sync, you should get the option to merger the data.  Choose it.
If you want your pics, then you will need to e-mail them to yourself before you sync.  They will not be of the original quality as they are reduced when synced to iphone.
When all is as goos as it can be, then backup your computer, and always maintain the backup.

  • New library or new project?

I Have just started using FCP X after using FCP 7 for many years. I went on a course of 3 days and came out more confused than ever. One mystery is this, the tutor said, "YOU MUST NEVER START A NEW PROJECT WITH 'FILE NEW PROJECT' YOU MUST START 'NEW LIBRARY' AND THEN IMPORT YOUR MEDIA AND ONLY  THEN CAN YOU START NEW PROJECT!" All well and good except last night I watched a good tutorial on FCP X hosted by a very good teacher and the first thing he said was, "To get started, go to file and start New Project, create an event and then import your media to this," I nearly fell over backwards in shock, because this seemed incredibly simple.Within 15 minutes of this tutorial I had learned more than 2 days sitting at a desk.
Can anyone advise who is correct, my tutor from Mars or the YouTube tutorial? BTW all my projects start life from SD Cards with HD material on them, in this case some with 50 FPS and some with 30 FPS (action cam) it must all be finally exported in Pro Res LT 25P 1920 x 1080.

FCP X when newly installed will by default give you one Library and one Event in that Library.
You can add a Project to this default setup immediately.
However, you can create new Libraries and an Event will be added, any Library will always have one Event. Try deleting the last one, it won't allow it.
As Russ points out: Libraries are the main container in which Events reside. Events are where Projects go.
Any Library can have new Events added in addition to the default.
Any Event can have multiple Projects.
Regarding the Timeline and Project settings:
The first clip that is added to a blank Timeline dictates the Project settings based on the clip specs. eg a 50P 1920 x 1080 inserted clip creates a PAL HD 50P Project.
You can override this auto select setup by manually creating a Project.
When Exporting you can change to codec to ProRes LT regardless of the origin.

  • How to stop iTunes creating a new library on my hard drive when it can't find the one I have created and told it to use on an external drive?

I have quite alot of music etc so to save hard drive space I have created my iTunes library on an external hard drive. If I ever accidentaly open iTunes when that external hard drive isn't attached iTunes makes a whole new library from scratch on my computers hard drive. I find this highly frustrating as I often open Itunes to find no music as it have changed librarys and I have to re-load my actual library: very frustraiting and time consuming.
I would like to know if it is possible to lock iTunes some how to stop it from changing folders when it can'f find the library, or atleast give me a warning that it can't find the library before creating a whole new one????

Tunes works through a database file which has a list of your tracks.  When you click on a track it looks up in the database which file it needs to play, then plays the file.  If something breaks this link then you get !  The two main ways to get ! are to move a file from where iTunes expects it to be, or to delete it altogether.  I don't know which has happened in your case.  You can try using Spotlight to find a file for the one referred to in a broken link.  If the files have been moved then they need to be moved back.  If they were deleted completely you will have to restore them from a backup or download them again from the iTunes Store and rebuild your library.

  • I HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRING MY ITUNES/IPOD TO A NEW COMPUTER WHICH HAS ALL WORKED EXCEPT MY OLD LIBRARY, PLAYLISTS ETC SHOW UNDER MY IPOD ON THE NEW COMPUTER BUT NOTHING IS IN THE NEW LIBRARY - HOW DO I GET IT THERE?

How do you get everything off the ipod into Library on new laptop & free up the space that was used when transferring (using ipod as hard drive to move over to new computer)? Also when try to sync music a box pops up saying are you sure as everything on the ipod will be removed & replaced with the items in the library but at the moment there's nothing in the library so don't want to lose everything?!  Thanks for your help

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I am using my brothers computer i dont want to lose my ringtones how can i save them to this new library

I am using my Brothers computer Mine is in Texas i am in Chicago when i synced my Iphone it eraesd my Ringtones Fortunately my Ipad still Has them how can i ad them to the Itunes library to restore my Phone i tried restore from Backup but that date does not show just need to add my tones to new library
    just

for the purchased items from the iTunes Store, you could use transfer of purchases
for the photos, other music/movie not from itunes, you'll be needing a third party application
for contacts, calendars , photos from camera roll : you could just directly transfer it from your phone to the computer.

  • I added a new iTunes account. Wanted new library, did it, but now my old library dissappeared and I can't retrieve it on my laptop. How do I find it. Is it possible to have two different accounts with 2 different libraries and go from one to the other?

I added a second account to my iTunes on my laptop. I wanted to give 2nd acct. its own library. I did by holding down shift key and going to start menu, choosing all programs then iTunes, then iTunes again. It asked me: choose library or create another iTunes library. I chose the later. I renamed it and saved in My Music. It automatically started up iTunes and brought me to the new library, but I cant get back to the old library with all my purchases, etc... What do I do to get the old library back? Computer illiterate, so please be kind. Thanks

You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

  • How to replace Match library with new library

Been using iTunes as my music manager/player since 2003. Currently have about 5,000 songs which are a mix of selective CD song rips, iTunes purchases and Amazon Mp3 downloads. Lots of missing artwork, incomplete albums, wrong genres, etc. I use iTunes Match to sync across multiple Macs and iOS devices, including 3 Apple TVs. It all works OK, but I recently undertook a major project to re-rip all of my CDs/Box Sets in their entirety – about 20,000 tracks. I performed the new rips on a Mac Mini running Windows 7 in BootCamp using Roxio Creator to get a 'universal' Mp3 (256kbs) format and keep everything separate and apart from my current iTunes/Match libraries. Total library size came out around 80-85GB, saved on an external USB HDD.
Recently had my iMac 1TB HDD replaced under Apple’s recall program and looked at it as an opportunity to totally rebuild my iTunes library from scratch using the new, complete album rips. I’ve loaded the new 80GB library onto the iMac and am currently using TuneUp Media to ‘clean up’ metadata and album artwork on the new library. I've turned off iTunes Match to isolate the iMac during this stage of the process.
When cleanup is complete, I would like to totally replace my current iTunes Match library with the new larger library. I think the songs will sync OK, but I’ve put a lot if effort into cleaning up the album artwork and am afraid that, if I don't take some precautions, iTunes Match will overrule and mess up my new artwork when I activate it.
    My plan is to
From the iMac, first copy (or should I export) the entire rebuilt library to an external drive as a backup, hopefully preserving all of the artwork and metadata corrections in the process (true?).
On my MacBook Pro, copy my current Match library to a different external drive to ensure preservation of any unique tracks I may have missed in building the new library. Then delete the entire library – both local and Cloud. I should then have an empty iTunes Match library, correct?
Then, on my iMac, activate iTunes Match and let it upload/match all the new songs/data to create a new Cloud library with all the new albums, descriptors and artwork.
Do I need to individually deactivate Match and delete local libraries on all my other devices also, or does the total Cloud library delete I perform on my MacBook Pro then transfer to all my other registered iOS and OSX devices that have Match activated?

    Quick question, Michael
When I copy the iTunes  folder to an external drive, does all the iTunes metadata and associated album artwork travel together with the raw music file?

  • How do I sync my Ipod to a new library after my computer has crashed?

How do I sync my Ipod to a new library after my computer has crashed?

iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, matching the device content to the content on the computer, except purchased content as mentioned above.  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing):
    - Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/
    - Phoneview - http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/

Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
In general do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining a backup of your media on a computer backup.
