Create a Backup Lab computer

Have a Mac G3, Labview 5.1, OS 8.1. Using it for lab data acquisition. Just purchased another G3(used) and it has OS9.1. I would like to configure this new G3 such that if the old one blows up, I an just plug this one in and continue normal operations. Any hints on what I can do, I am not a regular Mac user.

You might want to fresh install labview on the new system if you are booting into OS 9, then just copy over your VIs. Run the VIs to make sure that all of the subVIs are found and loaded properly. If you do just copy everything over (including the system folder) then you can set the mac to boot from the OS 8 folder instead of the OS 9 one. In any case be sure and test it...

  • When I tried to back up my computer, Time Machine says 'an error occurred while creating the backup folder.' When I check the side of the partition where I manually saved old files, the folders are there, but NONE of the files are.

I haven't backed up my computer in over a year. When I tried to back it up today, Time Machine says 'an error occurred while creating the backup folder.' When I check the side of the partition where I manually saved old photos and documents (including all the pictures from the year I studied abroad/traveled a bunch), the folders are there, but NONE of the files are.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be, or how I could fix it? I really don't want to lose all those photos

So you were doing a time machine backup to another partition on the same hard drive? Just trying to gather some information so i can provide a helpful response.

  • When I went to back up my MacBook to an external hard drive, an error message said the backup could not be completed because an error occurred when creating the backup folder.

I used a backup hard drive for my previous PC, but I have not done a backup on my MacBook yet, which I got this summer. When I hooked it up to my computer, it started the backup fine, and then my computer went to sleep, and so I closed it to let it back up overnight. The next morning I saw that it had been interrupted, and that an error occurred; the backup could not be completed because there was an error in creating the backup folder. I'm not sure what to do now because my data has been erased off of my hard drive now to prepare for the backup on my MacBook, but will I be able to use this hard drive again? Will the error message always come up?  Is there anything I can do to fix it?

I am always suspicious of using a different OS to the one that was used to run the backup.. ie if you used Snow L to backup then there is absolutely nothing wrong with using SL to restore.
Mount the TC sparsebundle and verify it using disk utility.
    A5 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
You might also like to load the widget in Time Machine so you get whatever the full error message is..
I cannot find any reference to the error code you are getting..
My recommendation would be to try it on a different computer.. restore the whole backup to an external drive large enough to accept the whole backup.
Use the manual methods pondini recommends.

Use ethernet only. Turn off wireless so it does not enter the situation.

  • ITunes creates corrupted backup after updating to iOS 8.3

So this happened right after I updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.3.
I got an "iTunes could not backup the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone" error.
I've followed instructions to update iTunes, restart the program, computer, and phone.
    Delete backups.
I've tried backing up on my 2nd computer with the same exact error.
    None of it works.
iTunes DOES make a backup. It says it was created 12/31/2000 at 6pm. However if I navigate to the folder in AppData it says it was created at the proper time on my computer's clock. I'm too afraid to restore that backup since my phone has no "real" backup now.
I would call Apple support but they want to charge me $30 for one session.
I've been avoiding restoring my phone because I don't want to spend the time to get all my apps and photos and music back onto the phone.
So I'm left with 2 options.
Restore the iPhone and waste a good hour of my time reinstalling everything.
Or waiting for the next 8.x iOS update and hope that fixes the issue.
Unless someone here can think of a 3rd option.

  • HT1751 I have done the above steps but I would like to know if everytime I sync will it create a backup on my external harddrive

I have windows 7 64 bit and followed the steps in the article.  What I would like to know is if I was to sync my ipad would the backup file be created on the external harddrive automatically or do I have do these steps at least once a week.
Everytime one syncs the ipad it creates a backup in the following directory
    c\users\owner\appdata\roaming\apple computer\backup
is there anyway I can change this and have it automatically backup everytime I sync the ipad.
    thanks

I never lost any media mind you just the library file that tell iTunes where everything lives.
On this point, you can keep a copy of of the "Itunes Music Library.xml" file, which contains the itunes metadata for your music library (songs & playlists).
Obviously, you would still need the files themselves for this to be of any worth, but if you ever find yourself in the same situation you can use the .xml file to recreate iTunes as it was. Keep in mind that you must import the .xml file into iTunes for this to work, you cannot simply move it via the finder.

  • Create automatic backup?

Is it possible to set Acrobat Pro 9.0 to create an automatic backup of whatever document you are working on? I don't mean "save". For example, in MS Word, I have my preferences set so that a document named Backup Document Name is automatically created as I work on the document, so in case there is a computer or application crash while using the document, the Backup Document is automatically saved.
Does anything similar exist in Acrobat Pro?
    Thanks.
    Sheri

thank you for answer . You mean create two scheduled task with wbadmin or powershell ? Create Backup once ? With this is still full backup , or incremental ? And can I create automatic backup ?
    Falcon
I try create automatic backup and I have 2 backup disk. After I change disk the windows backup detect new disk and create new backup . How detect which files must copy ? In the folder windowsimagebackup is list with files with hash or how ?

  • TM Error - An error occurred while creating the backup directory.

    mmm
Got the TC last Wednesday. Connected 1 brand new iMac and a one year old mini, both on 10.5.2 with Airport Utility updates.
The mini just started getting errors (Sunday lunch)
    TM Error
Unable to complete computer backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory.
Forcing a Backup Now gets the same error.
Mini is connected wirelessly direct to the TC and can browse the TC and read/write files ok.
I can see no reason how why this error is occurring.
TM opens and you can browse the backups fine.
Anyone know how to get TM to be able to create directories again?
    Thanks

exactly what I am seeing as well. I had one complete backup before I started seeing the exact error you are getting. I have tried everything I can think of from watching here and spending as much time on hold as I can afford. Hold times to talk with someone who actually might be able to help, that means not the first tech you will speak with but who they transfer you to may understand the TC/TM errors and fixes that work. That means 1 hour plus on hold, almost an hour before the first tech will finally give up and transfer you deeper and 30 minutes to 45 on hold there. Add another hour for them to get caught up with your case. These times are kinda like TC/TM themselves, very slow. I am connected via ethernet and shut down everything when trying to get this to work thus I have lost over 100 hours work time because of trying to get this to work without any interruption. It is such a generic error message it so totally reminds me of windoze daze. All I can do at this point is follow the leader on on the Apple death and dying forums. I am toast on trying and have seen that exact error screen more times than I am willing to admit. I am gonna get something that works as soon as I recover from spending 299 on a new wireless router! Please any of you seeing this error and somehow overcome it please post back and gives us losers something to chew on?

Time Machine Error: Unable to complete backup. An error occured while creating the backup directory.
I back up to wirelessly to a Time Capsule. I get these errors often. I'll go for a few days with everything working and then encounter these errors. I've even completely erased the Time Capsule drive and started over. It'll work fine for a few days and then start the errors over again. Interestingly, when the errors occur, the Time Capsule drive can not be unmounted even if clicking the eject button. I am on 10.5.8 but it happened in 10.5.7 as well. I have another Mac that doesn't seem to have any issues with the same Time Capsule.
Here's a log - they all seem to fail with similar errors:

  • HT3275 An error occurred while creating the backup folder.

What about : Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.
I have an external drive for my TM backup
when the computer starts the drive is mounted
TM starts a backup shortly after starting and is successfully completed
Then a couple of hours later TM attempts a backup and i get the error
Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.
If i dismount the drive and remount and do a manual TM backup it works
If I delete the TM partition and recreate it and start fresh backups it will continue to work for a number of days then it fails as per above, just working the first time after a restart or a remount
I thought it may be the drive spinning down bit there are 2 partitions on the drive one for TM and one as storage, so I set up a batch copy to keep a small file copy every 2 min
and i have watched TM count down and the drive has activity
The is discussed a lot in other places on the internet, but Apple support look to have avoided the subject

  • IPhone disconnects from my Windows laptop when i'm trying to create a backup

Not shure if this is the right cathegory to post this question in, but here i go anyways
So, i wanted to create a backup for my iPhone on my Windows 8.1 computer, and i firs had some problems with the "Apple Mobile Device Service", but when i finally fixed that problem, and when i finally where ready to make a backup to my computer, it started, lasted for around 10 secounds, beafore the iPone was disconnected from my computer. I have already tried to use a different usb adapter, but this didn't solve my problem,..
Any ideas where my problem is hiding?

    Hi Veselorjan,
Yes, I did see that information in your initial post.  Have you gone through the troubleshooting in the article I provided?  There are additional steps aside from trying another USB port and updating iTunes.
    Check connections
Try these steps to check the connection between your device or computer. You might need to do only one of these steps to resolve the issue, so test your connection after each step.
See if the cable connection at the device or computer has come loose or unplugged.
Unplug the cable you're using to connect your iOS device from the USB port on your computer, and then reconnect it. Then unplug it from your iOS device, and reconnect it.
Remove any third-party battery packs or cases from the device and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the port on the device.
If your Lightning or 30-pin cable is connected to a keyboard, display or USB hub, try plugging it directly into a USB port on the computer instead.
Close any virtualization apps (such as Parallels or VMWare).
These apps might interfere with your computer's ability to communicate over USB if they aren't properly configured, or up to date. If this resolves the issue, contact the developer of the app to see if an update is available.
    Restart your computer.
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Check for software updates. You can download the latest version of iTunes from Apple. If you're using a Mac, you can check for updates to OS X and other software using the Mac App Store.
If you're using a non-Apple computer, check for firmware updates for your computer or USB card from the manufacturer's website.
If your iOS device displays the Connect to iTunes screen, reset your device and then restore it.
If you're using an accessory or third-party cable to connect your device, try using an Apple cable with the device instead.
Disconnect other USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then, reconnect your iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect the other USB devices one at a time. Make sure your iOS device is still recognized by the computer after adding back each device.
If one of these steps resolves the issue, but it comes back later, make sure you haven't changed how the device is connected. For example, check to see if you plugged the device into a specific accessory, or used a specific cable that reintroduced the issue.

  • HT3275 How do I correct this problem - Time Machine could not complete back up. An error occurred while creating the backup folder? The problem started on 5th March but I had backed up to an iomega HD since I got my iMac in October.

I have had a problem since 5th March with Time Machine on my iMac. I have had no problem since I got the computer in October backing up to an iomega HD but now I keep getting a message that "Time Machine could not complete the backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder". Anyone know how to correct this?

I had the same "Error creating the backup folder" error - many times over.
I went into the Disk Utility, selected the Backup Disk and ran Verify. It checked out OK. But if not, could have run Repair.
Then did a complete shutdown and restart of the iMac and then tried "Backup Now" from the Time Machine icon's menu - it worked fine.

  • Why won't my iPhone 3gs create a backup when sync with my new Mac?

When I attempt to backup my iphone 3gs with my new iMac, it syncs fine but won't create a backup. The apps aren't saving on iTunes so I can't upgrade the phone without losing some apps. I never had a problem with my old PC. Is there something I need to do to authorize a backup on the new computer? I already authorized the computer with iTunes so I could play my music, but I must be missing something with the phone. Please help.

  • Create full backup image for restore

    Hi,
I don't know why I'm finding this information is so difficult to locate. I've really tried to find information on my own but I guess I'll just need to create this post.
What I need is a piece of software, Apple or 3rd Party (don't mind paying) that will create a full, complete image of my iPhone 4. I won't go into the many details for this, they are many. I just want to be able to create a snapshot of my iPhone 4 so I can restore it to the exact state it is in now. I worry that using any software created by Apple will use info from my iTunes / iCloud data storage to create the image..
Let's pretend I have a computer NOT running iTunes. I want to create an image of my phone to transfer to my iPhone that will put it in the exact same state that is / it was before I do any tinkering. My iPhone 4 is not jailbroken. Nothing special.
I'd REALLY appreciate any help you might have that will steer me toward the software I need.
    Thanks.

Well, thanks for the responses. I have been involved and writing code for Windows for well over 10 years. While I'm surrently not a developer I pretty much know what's going on in the WINDOWS software development environment. After MANY years I have learned to respect Apple's environment, in fact I'm actually learning to like it quite a bit. I never thought I'd be saying that.
However, in any software environment I've never gotton an answer to a question that was so direct -"you can't do that." While you may be 100% right but that answer is quite surprising given the fact that many millions of users are using Apple everyday.
There has to be an application that can give me just a cloned file from an iPhone so that it can be restored to the way it was prior to a change that might screw things up. It's the whole idea about creating a backup in the first place. In Windoes we have Ghost images and many more type utilities that will give you a file that can just be reloaded to the device. Rather it be a program, a folder, a disk...anything there has to be something unless Applr has written the whole operating system just to not allow images to be taken and then re-installed.
I really have looked for all of the applications that I find on the web and while most of them give me some of the functionally I need to accomplish creating an image, most solutions are really cumbersome. The Copy-Trans set of tools have this functionallity but haven't been designed to do, what I consider, a crucial task. In general an application would generate a (in my case) 32GB file that, with some other utility would re-load that image so that my phone would be rolled back to the state it was prior to making any other changes.
The functionality I'm looking for really doesn't even involve the "phone" part of the iPhone - it's everything else! I just want an application to get me back to the point I am right now. After generating the image I would then like to make those chages and, if they mess up my phone, I could just load the image created and I'd be back to where I was.Maybe I'm asking the question poorly but to me this is just basic functionality.
What['s important to me is backing up all of the unlicensed stuff on my iPhone. Such as pictures, contacts, notes, data in some applications as well as the apps themselves, music I've actually ripped from older CDs I've purchased and legally imported into iTunes / iPhone 4...To Me BASICALLY everything.
Does this help anyone in making the answer to my question a little more clear? This has to be a lack of a Windows person (Me) to everyone else. As I said the more I get into the Apple world of computing tools the more I think that Apple has done some Amazing things.

  • Lenovo S300: will I have trouble creating a backup image with Acronis

    I'm thinking of buying a Lenovo S300
    Very cheap and lighweight
I want to update all settings (Windows mainly) and then create a backup image that I can always go back to
Can I do this? Will I have any problems?
I bought an ASUS laptop with no disc drive... and basically, there was no way I could boot up with an external DVD drive or USB
I just wanted to make sure before I purchased
    Thanks

    Hi
Which application do you use to create the image?
I use the Symantec ghost and Im very satisfied. I have created an image file which was placed at the second application and if something going wrong Im able to install the OS from the image file.
Furthermore this unit support RAID and the RAID driver must be installed to recognize the HDD.

  • Time capsule won't back up - Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder. Any ideas?

I have tried all the resets, the firmware is the latest version, the green light is on.
But I get this message "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder."
    Any ideas?

Do setup again.. but make sure both your wireless and your ethernet have ipv6 turned on to local link.
Done this OK, but no idea about IPv6 - something new to me and rather Appley I think?
Unplug the WAN for the moment.. Just LAN port TC to the MBPr ethernet via thunderbolt.. (thunderbird was the kids puppet series.. Thunderbirds are go!!). Done - New real people Thunderbirds movie coming out soon I believe!!!
Reset the TC again.. sorry.. !! You're welcome ... done.
Make sure the ethernet now has an IP address.. 10.0.1.2 - Yep - done that - on ethernet anyway ...
You need to open the network preferences to find out. Yep - that's good ...
****** I then reconnect the TC WAN to the router - is this right?
And then I think I start going round in circles ... boot, reboot, restart, reboot again ...
The final result is green light on TC, but error message when trying TM is "Backup disk is not available".
Then open the airport utility and you should be able to setup the TC.
Do as little setup as possible and then run the TM backup and see how it goes.
I have managed to get Thunderbird to LAN on TC to create a folder on TC and copy a file onto it.
So I guess the drive is working - it must be the software, settings or perhaps even the operator that isn't quite so clever ...
I named network RFG, named device RFGTC.  RFG network shown as IP 192.168.0.72
Wireless router is BT Homehub 3 with IP of 192.168.0.254 - is this issuing new IP addresses when rebooting TC?
I have three wireless networks here - the BT Homehub3 wireless, the TC wireless, and also a D-link power socket ethernet thingy for an ethernet connection to the telly - DHP-W310AV which is also wireless link.  All are effectively connected to the BT Homehub - is there a conflict there?
Have several times achieved in Airport Utility schematic with internet shown as green, RFGTC shown as green, light on TC green, but no TM backup run ... "backup disc not available."
And there are no tall building around here to hurl myself off ... at least you can go to Sydney Harbour bridge - not too far away ... it was my son in Sydney that persuaded me to scrap Windows and go Apple ... it's all his fault ...
