Create a Blu-Ray with Chapters

I have created a project in FCPX. I want to add Chapter Markers, Create a Chapter Menu, Burn to Blu-Ray, and finally be able to play the Blu-ray on my Blu-Ray player and be able to “jump” from Chapter to Chapter while watching the Blu-ray. As I understand it, FCPX DOES not allow you to create Chapter Markers and you need to use Compressor. Can somebody provide me with a Step by step procedure for accomplishing what I want to do? Is there a Tutorial or something that explains this process? Can it even be accomplished? Is there some other product that is better and easier to use then Compressor? In reading the Compresoor Manual I came across Job Actions which appeared to accomplish everything I was looking for, but I was not 100% certain. Thanks in advance for any help someone may be able to provide.

Barry,
Here is one way. (There are others, but in the interest of conserving space…)
Export your movie using export media.
Open Compressor and select the Create Blu Ray Disk from the Batch Template window. (You'll get an audio and a video target.)
Drag your exported movie to the source well.
Open the Preview window.
Use the timeline playhead to scrub through your movie and identify where you want to set your chapter markers. Hit M to set a marker.
To the right of the TL scroll bar, there is a (tiny) button. Open it and it will allow you to edit the marker.
Click on Edit and then you can name your marker.
Repeat as necessary.
When you open the job actions tab, it should give your blu ray burner as an option.
Good luck.

  • Creating 1080p Blu-Ray with Final Cut Pro 10.0.7?

The latest version of Final Cut Pro (Vers 10.0.7) seems to share to Blu-Ray disk only at 720p resolution (1280X720) - not 1080P (1920X1200).  I know you can always use Compressor to create a 1080p Blu-Ray, but is there any way to create a 1080p Blu-Ray disk directly with Final Cut Pro?  It seems to me I was able to do this with earlier versions of Final Cut Pro X.

If you do a 1080 project @24fps or 29.97fps, FCPX will output 1080 frame size using the Blu-Ray settings. If you use Share >BD for either 720 or 1080 @ 60fps, it will choose the 720 resolution.
I have no idea whether this was always the case.

  • How to create a blu-ray disc with multiple source files

    Hello,
How is it possible to create a blu-ray disc, AVCHD recordable DVD with multiple source files from Final Cut Pro 10. Is it possible to create a menu with several chapters corresponding to the sequences (source files)?
Thank you in advance for your support.

Assume you're talking about using the Create Blu-Ray batch template. It's not possible to do with multiple source filles. But if I understand your objectives, you could pretty much get what you think want – discrete movie segments on a single disk with navigation.
The way I'd approach it is by making multiple projects in FCP and then copying the finished versions into a new project, separated by gaps. (You could also use compound clips but I'm not a fan except for very short sequences, which is why I'm suggesting the copy route.) Then export and bring into Compressor.
In Compressor mark your chapters at the gaps between your individual sequences. Then choose the AVCHD option in job actions.
Bear in mind that you'll have to keep the recording time under roughly 30-35 minutes @a5 Mbts/sec
    Good luck.

  • Cs 6 blu-ray with sub menus, only go back to main menu

I have burned a blu-ray with a main menu then sub menus: audio setup, chapters, extras.
(note: they are regular menus NOT pop-up menus and I would rather not do pop-up menus at this time)
when I am playing any of the sub menu content (trailer or making of or picking a chapter button from the chapter menu etc...) and press the menu button on the Blu-Ray player while it plays that content, it goes to the main menu instead of the sub menu.
I checked it in the simulator and it was working perfectly....just as I would expect it to.
each sub menu item (a trailer or making of featurette for example) is set to go back to the sub menu and it's button
    when done playing...and it does.
It just refuses to do that when the menu button on a blu-ray player is used and instead goes to the main menu.
I ran the link checker before building the folders and burning it...no conflicts found.
This seems to be an issue with Encore in general, reading about this here and in
    other forums.
Can Encore simply not create a proper blu-ray disc with sub-menu's you can
return to when the menu button on a remote is pressed?
Do I have to buy BluStreak in order to correct these rather obvious navigation errors?

Let us know what you find.
I think the original poster in the other thread observed that commercial BDs were showing the same behavior.
Even if true, it does not mean that some kind of scripting might not work.
But Encore would not have the option.

  • General Overview on How to use Final Cut Studio to create a Blu-Ray DVD

I am a new user of Final Cut Studio and need an experienced user to give my a progression guide on how to create a Blu-Ray DVD of my recent Alaska Trip. Last month I spend 8 days in Alaska visiting Denali and Juneau primarily. During that time I took about 100 short video clips (HD 1080p) and 570+ still photos with my Canon 7D. I have experimented with some pieces of the software and have created a Blu-Ray disk using Final Cut Pro and Compressor. However my goal is to create this DVD with menus that will play short clips (some narrated) and still photos(also some narration). I did a short one in DVD Studio Pro this morning but need some general guidance on what progression and programs to use to create this project. I was not able to take my video from the Studio Pro Sequence I created for my 1st DVD I had to take the original clips which were processed using Apple ProRes 422 and copy them in one at a time and then find the audio (on the voice overs) I created and also place them into DVD Studio Pro one at a time. I obviously need some guidance on the proper progression.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Here's the situation...
DVD Studio Pro will not do the trick for you - it doesn't do blu-ray discs. If you want to do Blu-ray you've got to use either Final Cut Pro's "Export" command or Compressor's "Burn Blu-ray disc" template. The downside to both of these approaches is that you can't burn more than one title (or movie, etc.) using Final Cut Studio.
To do what you want to do, you need Toast (at least). Toast will auto-generate menus but will let you put more than one title per slide (so you can put multiple slideshows on the same disc).
If you want to do full-on customizing of menus and multi-level menus, for that you need Adobe's Encore.
My suggestion - Get Toast. Encore is close to $800.
Here's your progression (at least the one I use).
Edit in Final Cut Pro (ProRes 422 is fine, ProRes 422 LT would do the trick as well)
Export as QuickTime movies (original settings)
In Compressor using the H.264 for Blu-ray setting and Dolby Digital setting and create elementary streams for video (.264 file) and audio (.ac3). Make sure these files have identical names except for the extension.
Using toast, add the video file to the Toast project and it'll find the audio file.
    Burn away!

  • Compressor Blu-ray with more than one sequence ?

Is it possible to create a blu-ray from the "New Batch from template..." of Compressor with more than one sequence ?
Message was edited by: Rudy A-Traxx

Thank you, Shawn.  You're confirming everything I thought!
Just asking . . . perhaps you have a few thoughts here:
    - Is Compressor version 4 any "different" than 3.5 - as far as just dropping in a QT movie master to compress?
    - I guess there's no way to get more than 6 Chapter Markers in Compressor DVD?  I don't see a way, perhaps there is? Or . . . I have to learn toast!  But I can do that!  Just easier if Compressor would do it all!
    Thanks again

  • Creating a Blu-Ray disc:

    Hello,
I tried to create a blu-ray disc witj Fonal Cut Pro 7 (menu Share) and with Final Cut Pro X Trial (menu Share), but both the times after a certain period of processing (about an and a half) an error message appears, QuickTime Error:0
Has anyone experienced such a problem, I can't burn a Blu-Ray disc with my bramd new HD drive and it seems that Final Cut Pro has a problem? Before buying Final Cut Pro X ...

it's just copying files to it, not video.  If you put a blank blu-ray disk in the drive, it may show up in the finder.  A program like Toast can burn a blu-ray.

  • Jerky playback of Blu Ray with Encore CS4 and Mac

I was very pleased by the fact that I created a Blu Ray disk on my first try...however, the footage plays back very jerky...almost like the frame rate dropped by half...I am using DVCPro 720p footage and compressing in two ways...1st did it in Media Encoder using the both 264 and mpeg 2 for blu-ray, and chose the proper format for 720p. Then I let Encore compress it using the automatic option...on all tries the video is playing back extremely jerky. I am also burning to re-writeable Blu Ray disks and playing back on PS3...anyone know what might be the problem?
    Thanks.

I did the same thing 720p 60p shot on a panasonic p2. I used final cut studio to co press to a mpeg-2 blu-ray stream and then build the blu-ray in encore cs4, it played back smoothly no dropping of frames or any other issues. That might solve your problems.
    I use a mac pro.

Thanks.  I do not have the experience on burning discs from iMovie for the movie after editing (ie for video discs players).  It seems that i cannot find the relevant command in the tool bar for this purpsoe.  Would you please show me the way?
The command is gone because iDVD has been discontinued by Apple. After Apple discontinued iDVD they removed the iDVD burning link from iMovie. I still use iDVD sometimes, only because I have an old copy.

You have mentioned about Handbrake as a converter.  What is the RF no. Again, what is the best rate?  Furthermore, which format is more suitable or the best: H264 or mpeg 2/4?
I don't know what RF means. When I have used HandBrake, I've used presets that apply to what I want to do, so I don't know the meaning of each individual setting. However, it appears that many of them are listed in the HandBrake User's Guide that is linked from the Help menu in the program:

Photoshop is not amateur-level software, and although it can edit a video, it cannot burn a DVD. Unfortunately, because I still use iMovie, I haven't tried anything else. You might want to read the reviews of various DVD-burning applications in the Mac App Store.

  • Best export format for encoding & burning Blu-ray with toast?

    Hi!
Have a 1 hour and fifteen minutes program which I burn to Blu-Ray with Toast 10/HD. The problem is the time it takes, about 25 hours. Is this resonable really?
    Maybe it´s depending on the format I put out from Final Cut - H.264, 1920 x 1080 (1888 x 1062)Stereo (L R), 48,000 kHz
Does anyone know if there is a better export setting in Final Cut to get the process work faster in Toast?
    Best / Urban

I've never used toast to burn a BluRay however I have used encore and I export 10 bit uncompressed out of FCP and compress that. If your over an hour of program you'll have to scale back the data rate to make it fit, a 90 minute feature looks good content wise, but any text on it will show signs of the reduced data rate. the encode typically takes about 8 hours to build the disk image on an 8 core mac then about 45 minutes to burn from the image. I burn first to a rewritable in case of issues, then if it passes muster I'll burn the master

  • FCS3- working blue-ray with surround sound ?

Hi, I'm trying to solve the problem with surround and Blue-ray.
*Could anyone confirm that FCS3 can output working Blue-Ray with 5.1 Surround Sound, please?*
The surround sound is really important for me, I am able to make Blue-ray now via Toast, but it converts the surround to stero). As soon someone confirms it works, I'm going to upgrade... Thanks!

The only things I noted when I made my first own test, was that even though my FCP7 timeline was set properly to output the 6 channels, when I went to compressor 3.5 to produce both the H264 and the AC3 (with 6 channels), after the Blu ray disk was burnt, the audio was not playing correctly.
I fixed the problem by going from FCP7 to Compressor using the new function called "send to compressor", instead of using a self contained QT movie (which is my usual workflow).
In this specific case I found that it solved my problem and my second attempt to produce the Blu ray disk was ok, the audio played as expected on my Dolby receiver.

    Armando.

  • Problems Creating a Blu-ray Disc with a Main (Static) Menu and Pop-up Menus

I'm having problems creating a simple Blu-ray disc containing a Main Menu (Static Menu with a graphic for my background) and a single Pop-up menu assigned to all of my timelines.  I wouldn't think this would be so hard to create but every attempt I've made ends up with the navigation getting all messed up to the point that my Playstation 3 doesn't even recognize that the disc as being Blu-rey disc.
I want a simply static Main menu containing a "Play all" Button, and a button for each additional timelines.  Im also using the override commands on my buttons so if someone just chooses to see one specific clip from the main menu, they will be taken back to the main Menu after their selected clip plays.  But then I also want a Pop-up menu assigned to the timelines so the viewer can switch to a different clip (timeline) without having to go back to the Main (static) menu.
My Blu-ray Disc runs just fine if I only use a static menu in a project, or if I only use a single Pop-up menu assigned to each timeline, but not both a Static Main menu, and pop-up menus.  I'm using CS4
    Thanks.

  • Difficult to create a disc blue ray with DVD studio pro

I have created a movie with final cut studio 7 ,
output quick time . DVD creation with menus is going very well but when I want to format and burn , I get a file on disk HVDVD_TS and not a movie on the disc to see on the TV.
Also, I downloaded the new version of Compressor 4. However , completing the film on Final Cut Pro 7, I can not send the movie to Compressor. If I put the movie in Quick Time to Compressor, the  system runs forever and I can not get anything better in the end.
At the end , I used Toast and then I get a result. Except that I connected a LG blueray burner on my macbook pro 17 ' and I do not see it on the desktop. It is grayed out in the left column of the Finder. Howewer, it burns. But I can not read the burned discs on the MacBook .
    The HD is complicated !
I may it was better  to go to Final Cut X ?

This comes up a lot because of the HD DVD option in DVDSP. It's not Blu-Ray. HD DVD is a dead format and shouldn't be used. To be clear, there is no Blu Ray authorring capability in DVDSP.
There is limited Blu-Ray capability by creating BD disks directly from either FCP or Compressor, You can also use the properly-encoded output files in Toast. How well your LG drive works with Mac's is another story.
FCP X won't give you anything better for what you're tring to do.
    Good luck.
