Create a bootable Mountain Lion OS X Server installer ?

With Lion and Lion Server it was possible to create a Lion Server installer just bij adding a ServerVersion.plist file in the folder CoreServices.
Adding that enabled the normally greyed-out 'Customize'-button that installed the Server.app and ServerEssentails.pkg (nevertheless an internet connection was still required).
I don't go in details here too much but is a similar procedure possible for Mountain Lion ? To install OS X Server in one row ?

Not that I am aware of.  If you find a way please disclose.
I fear that this is no longer possible and the reason I say this is that we have already gotten a few BTO mini Servers arriving with Mountain Lion + Server.app installed.  However, if you erase the drive and perform and Internet restore you no longer get Mountain Lion + Server.app installed.  You get Mountain Lion and then need to go to the App Store, associate the device with an Apple ID which grants you access to Server.app for download.

I would like to have a bootable Mountain Lion system 10.8.3 on my WD Passport for Mac backup drive.  How can this be done?

Use a program such as the Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper to duplicate your existing system to it. If desired, you can reinstall the OS onto it from the installer or recovery partition instead.

There are no keys, there is no trial version of OSX (ML or Mavericks) and Mavericks is free

  • Can't boot from bootable mountain lion 10.8 Usb

    Hi guys...
My friend is in big trouble, he has macbook (Late 2006) with 1.83 core 2 duo processor and mac os x 10.5 was installed at the time of purchase.
Due to some problems, he formatted his hard drive and installed windows 7 on it, now he has only windows 7 on his macbook.
Now he want to install Mountain Lion 10.8 back (he don't have installation disk which comes with macbook). so i downloaded mountain lion 10.8 from web which is almost 4.1 GB.
Here is the procedure i followed to create a bootable stick.
I formatted my Kingston 16 GB USB using Disk Utility with Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Then partitioned it with these configs.
    Volume Scheme:1
    Format: Mac OS Extended (Journeled)
    Options= selected GUID Partion Table
Then in restore tab, i selected source as downloaded file named as InstallEDS.dmg (about 4.1gb) and dragged Usb in destination. then pressed restore.
When i restated macbook and pressed option key (ALT) to load boot menu. It does not show usb, it only shows windows option.
So please help me to solve it, anything wrong i did or if i missed anything.
I want to install Mountain Lion 10.8 from USB Stick.

There are a few problems here, first Mountian Lion won't install on a 2006 MacBook, it diesn't meet the minimum specifications. http://support.apple.com/kb/SP654
Secondly you shouldn't install something purchased under one apple id onto another persons computer.

  • Mountain Lion Mac Mini Server Ethernet Port Not Working

I have a Mac Mini Server and once I upgraded to Mountain Lion Server the Ethernet port is unresponsive. It worked before upgrading. Is there something with Mountain Lion Server that is causing the Ethernet port not to work properly?

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Mountain Lion - Connect FTP Server

I have never been able to connect Finder to my FTP server since upgrading to Mountain Lion. I can connect with Firezilla, other FTP apps and Console but when attempting to connect in Finder (GO > Connect to Server), the connect attempt window just spins and eventually shakes it's head like a bad password, which works with other FTP apps. How is everyone mounting FTP sites in Finder? Not?

    Hello,
I have yet to setup this up but it does not make any sense to me as to why the admin would have to login to the local computer to get updated. This defeats the whole point in my opinion. You can try giving the network user admin rights of the computer and see if it works.
    1. Login as the network user.
    2. Open System preferences and go to users and groups.
    3. Check the box "Allow user to administer this computer"
You may have to restart and then test it to see.
The only other thing I can think of trying on the local side is joining the computer to server if you already have not done this.
    Thanks,

  • Will Mountain Lion affect my iLife installations?

I have a 2011 Intel iMac, which came with 10.6.7 disks.  Soon after getting it, I upgraded to Lion.  I am about to upgrade to Mountain Lion and I am concerned that my existing iLife suite may be affected by the upgrade.  If I have a problem, where do I go to re-install the iLife material?
    Thanks in advance.

If you have any problems with your iLife (you shouldn't) then you would use your install disk to re-install them.

  • I need to re-download Mac OS X Mountain Lion to put the installer onto a flash drive to perform a clean re-install, Will I need to buy the software again?

It says on the Mac App Store "You have already got OS X Mountain Lion on your computer, would you still like to download?"
Will it charge me £13. again if i choose ok???

Not if you download it from your Purchases page. Click on Purchase icon in the App Store toolbar.
BTW, you don't need to put Mountain Lion on a flash drive for a clean install:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Mountain Lion 10.8.3 Installation Failed

I recently bought a original windows 8 pro disk , with hopes of installing it on my MBP , Late 2011 via bootcamp. After reading in the threads , it has come to my attention that i needed 10.8.3 Mountain Lion to install bootcamp 5 , to install windows 8 64 bit. Thinking that it was a small thing , i went ahead and bought Mountain Lion 10.8 , and downloaded 10.8.3 combo pack so i could install it. However , after restarting my computer to install the update , an error message came out saying that they could not find the recovery disk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
PS : I am running OSX Lion 10.7.5

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you purchased Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store, did you download it first and run the OS X Mountain Lion installer? The Combo version can only be used if you are running OS X Mountain Lion, and in your case, you don't need it, because you will get OS X 10.8.4 after upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion.
Open the Mac App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the OS X Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow the steps. After upgrading, you will have OS X 10.8.4. Follow Apple's steps to install Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

  • Pkg cannot install files in the Mountain Lion OS after Mavericks installation

I installed Mavericks on second partition while Mountain Lion was installed in first partition.
After 2 OS are ready and can be booted, I found any pkg cannot install files in the 10.8 OS, can I can solve it?
    Thanks.

Sorry, I can't tell from your description what is going on. Are you allowed to choose the destination, or does it just install? Perhaps the package is poorly configured and has hard-coded install paths.
Do all installers have the same problem?
Unfortunately, I do not have a drive partitioned like that to test.

  • I have problems to connect iCal 6.0 (Mountain Lion) with Exchange Server 2007

I used ICal with Exchange Server 2007 without problems with Lion. After I adopted Mountain it has been impossible to use ICal and I have obliged to use Outlook because It was not possible to connect ICal with Server.
I reinstalled Mountain and rebuilt Outlook data base, canceled cache and so on but without results. How cn I do?

I was having problems with this too. I remember it working okay in iOS 7 and then it breaking in iOS 8.
Fortunately, I'm now on the iOS 8.1 beta, and can confirm it's working fine for me. Just how it used to. - I guess that's one of the bugs that Apple's new software will bust. We'll just have to wait it out.

  • Trust relation between mac server 2.2.1 (10.8 mountain lion) and windows server 2008 r2

    i have the following settings:
    windows 2008R2 domain server.
    mac server 2.2.1
    mac client machines
mac server machine is joined to Active Directory in windows 2008r2 without any problems.
mac client machine is joined to mac server without any problem.
the only problem is that i cannot log in to the mac client machine with a username from the active directory in windows 2008r2. i can log in with a created user on the mac server.
i did a trust relation in windows 2008r2:
    Realm trust
    Transitive
    One-way incoming
still cannot log with ad users. can anyone help me in the configurations if i missed something? i am new to mac servers and their configurations.

does this mean that on every mac client i have to join 2 domains, the windows domain and mac domain?
    Yes
then, why to use "workgourp manager" in mac to copy all the active directory users to mac server group? i do this to make all users available for authentication through mac serve ronly.
Am I right? The users on your macserver are a copy of your users of the AD? It was not necessary to do that. Because all Users will listed on the Server.app on the User-Manager if you setup was correct. And this means:
    - first join your Mac (used as Server) to your Active Directory
    - second Install the Server.app. The Setup Wizard will do the rest.
In my case, on the Usersection an the Server.app I will find "Benutzer von FAMILY-NET" that is my Active Domain.
and if i join the mac client to windows domain for authentication, why do i need the mac server for? i need only to authenticate users in active directory on mac os x and that is only it.
In this case - you need no Mac Server!
Only if you want to use the Services of the Mac-Server (DNS, Wiki, Mail,...) or Manage you IOS/Mac Devices. Than it is necessary.
sorry for my many questions, i am very new to mac os x and server.
No problem. I lived in Mac-Worlds since 2 years. I infected with it with the purchase of my first iphone.
