Create a DVD project in UFF

Hi all.
I am wondering why I cannot create a DVD project in Upper field when most footage these days are in UFF (except DV)?
When I burn my disc, the fielding is wrong because of the default LFF setting. It also defaults to 720x576.
I am using CS6 -  desired project - PAL, 16:9, SD.
Many thanks, Toni

Hi, Andrew. Thank you for your prompt reply.
I am working with Pro-res 422 HQ and 422 files which are all upper.
This is not going into any editing package. AME is the default transcoder I am using for Encore.
The masters come from overseas on tape (HDCAM SR) which are then transferred to file format.
The HQ files are beautiful but once they are down converted to SD (in Encore) they really look awful.
I know how to transcode them not to be in the wrong field but I was wondering why Encore limits to only PAL DV i.e. 720x576 lower when most file formats nowadays are upper and 16:9 is almost standard. Few 4x3 television set are sold these days. I have been submitting SD 16:9 (not HD) for many months now.
Only recently have I started doing BD discs in Encore and because client wants the DVD to look exactly like the BD, I am authoring both in Encore.
I think there is no answer to this because all my graphics are also stepped as well (unlike BD).
I was hoping the Adobe Encore had a “fix” to include an aspect ratio of 16:9 as well as UFF and Progressive.
Many thanks again for your help.

  • Can't create a DVD project in imovie

Each time I try to create an imovie while I'm in imovie, it tells me that it must have idvd 4 or above. I have idvd 5. I've reinstalled my software but it keep doing the same thing.
Can anyone help me on this? The movie's are finished in imovie, I just want to burn them to a dvd to play in regular dvd players.

    Hi Bedg!
What are you trying to import into iMovie, and from what source?
What version of iMovie do you have?

  • Created a DVD project from Adobe Encore into a .iso file

I have an ISO file that is suppose to have my Encore DVD on it. How do I OR what do I do with this file to get it to be something I can use with my DVD Player! HELP... signed, frustrated bill

Well, I burned the VIDEO_TS folder...it runs on the MAC DVD Player. When I put it into on DVD player hooked up to a TV...it immediately says OPEN and opens. I put it into another DVD player hooked to another TV and it sort of sits there knowing it has a DVD...for a minute or two then generates some error code.
So...VIDEO_TS works on computer Mac...not on individual DVD players.
Yes. The Mac DVD Player application plays either a VIDEO_TS folder or a DVD. The VIDEO_TS folder can be on a disk of any format. A standalone DVD player needs the VIDEO_TS folder to be on a UDF DVD. Burning the VIDEO_TS folder will not generate a UDF DVD, whether you use Finder or Disk Utility for burning. The ISO image file you started with should be UDF. If you burn it (not the VIDEO_TS folder it contains) with Disk Utility, it will generate a UDF DVD that will play of a standalone DVD player. If the ISO disk image file is not UDF (open the ISO file and look in Disk Utility to see if it's UDF), you can make a UDF disk image file from the VIDEO_TS folder using DVD Imager

  • I want to create this DVD in iDVD but...

I created a project in iMovie and every time I try to share it by publishing it in Media Browser or iDVD during and after a few hrs of it's upload iMovie quits unexpectedly every time before it finishes. And I've been trying to create this DVD for months. At first the movie project was ready to burn on iDVD, and during the burning process it stopped, saying there was a problem with multiplexing or something it it would not finish burning the movie. I have since did some adjustments on the project, and now iMovie quits after several hrs the publishing process, so I can't even see if the iDVD burning will work if I tried it again because iMovie won't complete the publishing process, it "unexpectedly quits" every time..

Your target size for free space available on your Mac HD is around 25GB at a minimum for DVD project burning. To find out how much free space is available go to your Mac HD, hold down the Option key and click on the icon. Choose Get Info.
The field you are most interested in looking at is the one titled Available: which tells you how much free space you have. If you are over 25GBytes available, you're not running out of hard drive space to create the DVD project.

  • Create a dvd from past project and event moved to external hard drive

i have version 7.04 DVD. Moved several projects and events to external hard drive. How do I go to "existing dvd projects" and create a dvd from a completed past dvd project? do i have to move the project and event back to the iMac hard drive..thanks

A iDVD project contain links to the various elements you have used to make the project. Unless you have actually saved the project as an iDVD Project Archive (an option under FILE in iDVD) which can be a very large file because it actually contains all the elements used in the project with adjusted links, simply moving a project (and/or elements used in the project) breaks all the necessary links. Sometimes you can reestablish the links (iDVD usually gives you a chance to try), but it can't always be done.
    Good luck.

  • How to create a DVD from several FCP projects?

I'm strugeling to create a DVD. I feel like a fool because it used to go so easy with my old computer but with my new Mac it doesn't seem to work.....
    What I'm doing:
    - Footage MTS 1920x1080, 24Mbps .MOD files
    - I upload them from my camera into FCP
    - I make projects (let say 20 different ones)
    - I want to put all the projects on 1 DVD as seperate 'chapters/ icons'
    - With FCP I can only put one project at the time on a DVD, so that doesn't work
    - I bought DVD creater to put the exports of FCP on a DVD, problem I can not create a export out of FCP that will be recognised by dvd creater.
I know that I will be able to convert my FCP export into something else by some programme. But this is a work around, I don't really want to do such a extra step because the quality will be lower.
Ik hope someone has a solution for me!

    Hello T,
I have just exported the slideshow from iPhoto to the iPhoto Slideshow Folder, opening iDVD.
I selected create a new project as EJ3 in MoMs folder hit CREATE and iDVD quit, disappears,
THE iDVD icon is still active on the doc but how ever it is simply GONE,
this is the second time i tried this. I will restart the computer and come back and try it again.
OK. I restarted the Mac, opened iDVD, selected MAGIC iDVD and in the movie section EJ3 was no where to be found.
I will now close iDVD and try create a new project, saved MY GREAT DVD to the desktop.
Cannot find EJ3 or the other exported iPHOTO slide shows under Elizabeth.....
    they are here
but I can't select, or import, or open in iDVD.
I am totally lost and thinking that this can't be done for some unknown reason.
I am thinking if iMOVIE is the way to go OR if I should delete iDVD and reinstall it from the iLIFE disk.
I am sorry for all this failure.
    at a loss right now.

How do I create a DVD from an iMovie '08 Project? I followed the directions in the help section but when I open iDVD, my project is "grayed out" and I cannot open it in iDVD.
    Rich Rector

In general, in imovie Share to Media Browser or Share to iTunes.
Then open iDVD. Open the Media Browser in iDVD (at bottom right of window). Navigate to your movies and you should see the movie you made. Drag it in to the iDVD project.

  • Can you create a DVD studio pro project from a DVD?

I have inherited a DVD project that needs updated.  I have the original DVD that was burned, but the DVD studio pro project that was used to map and make it does not exist.  I only want to add to the DVD.  Is it possible to take a DVD that was burned in DVD studio Pro and open it so that you see the layout and links in studio pro and copy that DVD as a project?  Or am I stuck remaking the dvd with links and buttons etc. from scratch?
    Thanks for your help.

    >>Is it possible to take a DVD that was burned in DVD studio Pro and open it so that you see the layout and links in studio pro and copy that DVD as a project?
    No.
You can extract the disc's video content using MPEG Streamclip. I have a tutorial here... http://www.secondchairvideo.com/?p=739

  • When creating a DVD face in Photoshop 13 my save options are limited to .PSE and .PDF.  Why can I not save as a jpeg or other file format?  This was never an issues in Elements 10 (my previous version).

I just recently purchased Elements 13. I am in the process of creating a DVD face for a video. The design is complete and I would like to be able to save it as a JPEG so I can use it in another program that prints my DVD's. The problem is that it only allows me to save the file as at PSE or a PDF. No other options are available. Why is this?  I upgraded from Elements 10. In Elements 10 I have never had a problem saving this type of project as a JPEG.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    ANSWER FOUND!
Once I finished composing my question I went back and spent some time to figure out the problem. Rather than choosing the "save as" option, which doesn't work, or attempting to choose "export" (grayed out), the correct option is to choose "export creation", which is near the very bottom of the initial drop down options. That works!  I still think it would make sense to have it as an option in the "save as" area.

  • How do I create a DVD from iMovie when iDVD is no longer included in iLife (Lion).

I've been doing video editing for many years on PC using the Pinacle software. I have for years wanted to switch to a Mac that is known to be far better for this purpose than PC. A few days ago I bought an IMAC 27 inch, 3.1 MHz and was impressed with the Imovie program until I was going to burn the project onto a DVD as I had read about and explained in all Apple stores I've visited.
I realize to my great surprise that in the Lion version is no longer possible to burn a DVD using IDVD as mentioned in the help menu and in the Appel documentation online. I have tried with various other applications as well with no success. It is completely incomprehensible that Appel actually has removed this option from Ilife (IDVD) and I feel cheated.
I have now spoken with three different people from the support and none of them can give me a good explanation of how to burn an Imovie project onto DVD with this new operating system (which actually is a basic need). All documentation I find on internet and in the help section refers to iDVD, which is not included in Lion, and it does not even appear that I can buy the program separately. The new operating system is marketed as an improvement and this I find misleading advertising when such a basic need as creating a DVD is no longer possible (or extremely complicated). I do not experience that I have received the product I have been informed about in several stores and on Apple's website and considering of course to raise the entire purchase.
Does anybody know how to do this without iDVD? I want to create both a DVD frontpage and chapters as I have been doing on my pc for years.

Does anybody know how to do this without iDVD?
You can't.  You MUST buy iDVD.
Tell Apple how you feel.  They do read these comments, and often react.  Be nice.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
(On the above link, you will notice under Mac apps they do indeed show, iDVD!)
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $29. You WILL get iDVD.
or if you like downloads, go to the Apple Store via the Store button at the top, (not the App Store) and look for iLife 11 it will list iWeb and iDVD.  It IS available online.

  • Can I Create a DVD in Captivate 5 to auto-run on Standalone DVD Player

I upgraded to Captivate 5 and created a 4-minute "infomercial" of our product. I was able to publish it as an exe so stores could play it on their Windows computer. I was also able to publish it as an Application so stores could play it on their Mac computers.
But how do I publish it for stores that just have a cheap stand-alone DVD player? Most DVDs the stores get from other vendors have a DVD with AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS files on the DVD and this just starts playing when they insert the DVD. I want to do that as well.
Adobe tech support said to publish my Captivate 5 project as SWF and check the Auto-play box. This generated about 5-6 files but none start up right away (although the one with an htm extension does run on my Windows Computer if I first click on it.)
Past Forum postings from years ago seem to say to Publish using F4V, convert using Adobe Media Encoder and then use Encore to create the final DVD. I did publish using F4V and then downloaded Adobe Media Encoder from your web site and ran the F4V file through that. Now I am stuck. Do I need to buy a $1,600 product called Creative Suite 5 to get to the last step and create a DVD that plays automatically when inserted in a Stand-alone DVD player? There must be a simpler (cheaper) solution.  HELP!!!

    Hi there
I'm guessing you will need to consider publishing as Media (F4V with Fixed Frame Rate). Then take that and pop it into a converter such as the ones you may easily find using Google.

  • How can I create a dvd with NO theme?

I'd like to create a DVD that shows an image of my choice when inserted in player, with one play button start movie. All themes seem to have some moving graphic or fancy stuff.

    Hi
Easy is to put movie into AutoPlay box in organizing view in iDVD window (top left most box)
But this ends in a menu - This can be a black photo to simulate No Menu
All themes seem to have some moving graphic or fancy stuff.
No - and especially the old ones. AND by using the mid round button under the iDVD menu window (the one with two semi-circular arrows) You turn off Animation - I always do !
    from. Klaus1 in Somerset, UK
How to create a DVD in iDVD6 without menu (there are several options)
    1. Easy. Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously.
Disadvantage. The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy. If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well).
Disadvantage. The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time. Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage. One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software. Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn.
Disadvantage. you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way". Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary. myDVDedit ( www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager.

  • Is it possible to create a DVD of photos that will play on a television?

Is it possible to create a DVD of photos from iPhoto that will play on a television?

Yes.  You'll need a video DVD authoring application like iDVD and an external optical drive. I suggest a 3rd party optical drive as the Apple Superdrive is limited to USB 2 which has rather slow through put.  Get one with USB 3 or FW.
Export a slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.  Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Or open iDVD, select a theme, create a slideshow in iDVD and add the photos from iPhoto via the Media Browser in iDVD.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
There are simpler (in features) video DVD authoring applications available from the App Store.
